Upward and Onward Productions Presents “Our Meeting at the Crossroads” music series episode “Red Clay Chronicles”. This segment is all about Tony Hightower's road to jazz. Host Darren Lorenzo, takes you inside this musical experience. Join us for talks about Atlanta, the music industry and jazz. The art of cool has been wayward since the likes of Nat King Cole, Frank Sinatra, Mel Tormé, Miles Davis, and John Coltrane. As represented by these legends of jazz, cool is a state of mind, an attitude of confidence and strength in one's craft. Jazz artist Tony Hightower encompasses a new age cool that is part homage and part regeneration. Being not only an admirer but a student of the genre, Hightower's passion and direct connection to jazz music allows him the advantage of properly emulating the timelessness of the classics without the kitsch while still injecting his own interpretations.Tony Hightower was immersed in multiple forms of music as a child. The son of prominent jazz vocalist Theresa Hightower, his experiences with music, jazz in particular, were ingrained in his upbringing. Regularly witnessing not only his mother perform but a wide range of talented artists helped shape his own penchants for singing and arranging. Hightower's inherent musical expertise spans genres, allowing him opportunities to create with such talents as Lionel Ritchie, Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, Outkast, Dottie Peoples, Charlie Wilson and a roster of other artists and producers. Critically acclaimed musicians Freddy Cole and Wycliffe Gordon have both acknowledged Hightower's ingenuity in regards to The New Standard, with Cole providing musical guidance throughout the conception while Gordon praised the project as a “great recording.” However, accolades for this album don't stop there; The New Standard received a nomination, amongst veterans and major label-backed artists, as a candidate for the Grammy's 2015 Best Jazz Vocal Album. Although the candidacy did not manifest into an official nomination, this high achievement further validates the authenticity of Hightower's purist jazz vision. The bare honesty in Tony Hightower's works emit not only through his albums but also in his performances. Speaking on the live experience, he reflects, “Performing live is like a conversation, a conference call; the musicians are having a conversation on stage and then having a conversation with the audience. I enjoy the connection I'm able to have with the [listeners].” With only his passion and vocals on stage, along with the assistance of his band, Hightower confidently shares his labor of love and His respect for the cool. “After Talk” Host, Director and Creator - Darren LorenzoCo host, Sound Editor, Sound Mixer - Bruno Diaz

God's (Perfect) Timing

In this episode we talk about the stress and struggles we deal with when we feel that God doesn't move when we anticipated Him too. But we must remember that God works in His own way and time. We will look at the life of Joseph and how God used him to save his family and the future nation of Israel. When his brothers thought he would  have revenge on them, he tells them in Genesis 50:19, " Do not be afraid, you meant evil against me; but God meant it for good, in order to bring it about as it is this day, to save many people."Joseph's dreams took 22 years to be fulfilled. In John 11 we see the story of Lazarus and that it took 4 days before Jesus came to raise him and show that:1)God's timing is perfect in that it grows our faith as we are forced to wait; and He alone gets the glory, honor and praise.2)God's ways are not our ways. Isaiah 55:8-93)God has the final say. When most want to put a period at the end of the sentence, God puts a comma.Psalms 27:14- waiting on GodExcerpt from Dr. Charles Stanley sermon titled "When God says wait":When we are in a hurry to make a decision and move forward rather than seeking God's timing, we need to heed the words of Psalm 27:14, “Wait for the Lord; be strong and let your heart take courage; yes, wait for the Lord.”God's timing isn't just good; it's perfect. He is omniscient and knows all things in the past, present, and future. The Lord sees every aspect of our lives, including our needs and desires. In His great wisdom, He understands what's best for us. His divine schedule for our lives is always perfect and achieves His good purposes. In contrast, we are often in a hurry to get what we want. Since we have limited knowledge and understanding, we should pray about the situation and wait for God to unfold the path He has for us. But in our haste to move ahead, we often make big decisions without asking the Lord to show us His perfect timing in the matter.7 points of God's timing1) He is Patient- 2 Peter 3:8-92) God Directs- Proverbs 16:93) His Timing- Ecclesiastes 3:1-84) Live for Today- Proverbs 27:15) A Hope and a Future- Jeremiah 29:11-126) Wait Quietly- Psalms 27:14, Lamentations 3:25-267) Submit to Him- Proverbs 3:5-6Yet I knew God had prepared me for precisely this time and moment to use me.Hebrews 4:16Song by Dottie Peoples titled "He's an on time God"chorus:He's an on time God, yes he is (oh oh oh)On time God, yes he isJob saidHe may not come when you want himBut he'llBe there right on timeI'll tell youHe's an on time God, yes he ishttps://youtu.be/KG0glN2Y5K8

Leonard Charles Williams (born February 16, 1945)[1] is an American singer-songwriter and musician, best known for his work during the 1970s. Williams was the lead vocalist for R&B/Soul group Tower of Power. As a soloist, Williams made several hit recordings, including 1978's "Cause I Love You" and 1977's "Choosing You". Williams was born in Little Rock, Arkansas, and moved to Oakland, California, at a young age.[2] Learning to play the trumpet in elementary school fueled his interest in music; his skills as a vocalist were first nurtured by singing in gospel choirs and groups around the Bay Area. He worked with several notable artists, such as Sly Stone, Andraé Crouch, Billy Preston and members of the Hawkins family, Edwin, Walter and Tramaine. After winning several local talent contests, Williams signed his first recording contract with Fantasy Records. He cut two singles for the label, including "Lisa's Gone" and "Feelin Blue", written by John Fogerty of Creedence Clearwater Revival. In 1972, Williams joined the emerging funk band Tower of Power. A string of hits followed, including "So Very Hard to Go", "What Is Hip", "Don't Change Horses (In The Middle of the Stream)" and "Willing To Learn". During his two years with the group, Williams participated in three albums: Back To Oakland, Urban Renewal and the gold LP Tower of Power. Williams and Tower of Power toured throughout the United States, Europe and Asia. While still with Tower of Power, he recorded his first solo album Pray for the Lion for Warner Bros. Records in 1974. At the end of 1975, Williams left the band and returned to his solo projects. Initially signing with Motown Records in 1975, he later moved to ABC Records in 1977 (which was then purchased by MCA Records in 1979). With producer Frank Wilson at the helm and songwriters such as Judy Wieder, Clay Drayton, Terry McFadden, and John Footman, over the next four years, he scored ten chart hits, including "Shoo Doo FuFu Ooh", "Choosing You", "You Got Me Running", "Love Hurt Me Love Healed Me", "Here's to the Lady," and "Midnight Girl". Williams recorded four more albums from 1977 to 1980: Choosing You, his first gold LP; Spark of Love (contains the hits "You Got Me Running", and "Cause I Love You" as well as "Midnight Girl"); Love Current; "Taking Chances" and Let's Do It Today. After leaving MCA, Williams recorded for the independent record labels, Rockshire and Knobhill. In 1986, he was invited to sing vocals on "Don't Make Me Wait For Love", a track from Duotones, a multi-platinum recording by Kenny G. The song became a Top 20 Billboard Hot 100 and R&B hit the following year. His 1978 hit song "Cause I Love You" was sampled by Havoc of Mobb Deep for the track "Nothing Like Home", and by Kanye West for the songs "Overnight Celebrity" by Twista and "I Got A Love" by Jin. The track was sampled a fourth time in 2007 by Scarface for his single "Girl You Know" featuring Trey Songz & Young Jeezysampled "Let's Talk It Over" for his single "I Do" featuring Jay-Z and Andre 3000. His song "Half Past Love" was also sampled by The Coup for their 2006 single "My Favorite Mutiny" featuring Black Thought of The Roots and Talib Kweli of Black Star.Since that time, Williams has continued his solo career, touring the US, Europe and South Africa, and has also expanded his career to include acting, starring in several stage plays, including Love on Lay Away starring Deborah Cox, Mel Jackson and Martha Wash, What Men Don't Tell starring Kenny Lattimore, Chante Moore, and Dottie Peoples, and When A Woman's Fed Up. He is also one of the featured artists on Urbanland Music's DVD The Big Show, recorded at the Orpheum Theatre in Boston, Massachusetts, on November 29, 2002. Award-winning Christian artist Rahn Anthoni took the international press and airwaves by storm with 2017's most inspirational track, “I'll Trust You.” The song earned him a Radio Music Award and an Indie Music Channel Award, and numerous other accolades, including the Man-Up Award, for his charity work.  Rahn's history with inspirational music has helped him develop a positive relationship with God and the world of song. Despite the heartbreaking circumstances surrounding the death of his special needs son, Aaron Hatcher, Rahn has been able to turn tragedy to triumph, delivering a message of hope and love to the masses.   Encouraged by the support the country music world showed his r&b-flavored music, Rahn has returned with an ambitious new “country soul” tune, that's reminiscent of Darius Rucker, Charley Pride and other soulful country artists. “Highway” was written by Rahn, and it tells of his journey from tragedy to triumph, looking back on the story of his life. It will be released on MTS Records in January 2018.   Then tragedy struck...After losing his special needs son to abuse, allegedly by his son's teacher, Anthoni has become an advocate for special needs kids. The Aaron Hatcher Awards are given every year, in honor of his late son, Aaron Hatcher. His son also inspired him to start the Special Needs Rock Awards and They Can't Talk But We Can, a non-profit organization providing advocacy for children with disabilities.  For more information, visit http://www.theycanttalkbutwecaninc.org/.   Anthoni is also CEO of WMQGRadio.com The Source, the number #1 internet radio station giving back to the Old Skool music.
