Autism has many contributors, but there are specific ones among them that most people use daily. These toxins affect the neurological systems of fetuses and children at an even greater rate than they do adults. Our families are the most important thing in the world to us. We must educate ourselves in order to protect them. There are many environmental toxins that we live in and around. Studies are coming out regarding their safety, or lack thereof, but most people are either unaware of the dangers or disregard the warnings rather than give up convenience. Toxins are cumulative. Yes, small amounts over time build up and cause disease. Precautions can be made to detoxify the body or prevent them in the first place. Due to the nature of biology, each of us can tolerate different loads of toxins. These factors include our body's ability to detoxify, the health of DNA, repair enzymes, amounts or toxins absorbed, the strength of cellular enzymes, age, genetic inheritance, possible pre-existing diseases, the number of toxins we are exposed to at different or concurring times, and the overall strength of the immune system. The list of the top ten chemicals in consumer products that are suspected to contribute to autism developed by The Children's Environmental Health Center are: -lead -methylmercury -polychlorinated biphenyl (PCB's) -organophosphate pesticides -organochlorine pesticides -endocrine disruptors -automotive exhaust -polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons -brominated flame retardants -perfluorinated compounds... Our indfoor Environment, how did it get the way it is and does it affect our health? The quality of our indoor environments does indeed affect our health and risks for many diseases are increased by indoor air pollutants, surface contamination with toxins and microbes while contact among people at home, at work, in transportation, and in many other public and private indoor places is unavoidable. Lately, shifting emphasis has led to a broadening focus on prevention but of course, first we the people must understand the scope and depth of our prevention needs. The emphasis on the built environment indicates a shift toward a more holistic approach to indoor environments and the public's health, a shift consistent with the broadening recognition of the multiple levels of environmental factors, from the personal to the global, that determine an individual's health. To help us better understand this are two experts. It was great to hear that this is the advice Christopher gives to his four kids, and also to see how he has acted on this advice throughout his own career. Let me be clear, following what lights you up is not selfish, it's what you're here to do. The more we lean into what lights us up, the bigger impact we'll have. The Honest Company wanted to make sure they weren't hiding behind, or hiding under, stories. Important lessons for organizations are often also important lessons for individuals. After all, an organization is only a collection of individuals. His comment reminded me of a personal theme I've had come up repeatedly this past year. I've been intentionally looking for the personal narratives I'm hiding behind or hiding from. Stories from my past that my ego believes are what gives me value—or takes my value away. This is in line with Christopher's comment about having tough conversations with yourself. The more aligned we are as individuals, the better leaders we're able to be. I didn't know that both cannabinoids and opioids block the release of pain-propagating neurotransmitters in the brain and spinal cord. Opioids are very addictive. So addictive they've caused a crisis in America, which the mini-series Dope Sick does a great job of portraying. Cannabinoids are not addictive. CDB is one cannabinoid from the cannabis plant. What's the one thing that so many women are overlooking when trying to fix their hormones? Environmental toxins. Sadly, we have a plethora of chemicals in our environment, beauty products, and food that negatively impact both our hormones and overall health in a deep and profound way. And because many of these chemicals have been deemed "safe," we miss the compound effect they are having inside of our bodies. In the kick-off episode for our third season of Hormonally Speaking, I speak with environmental toxins expert and self-professed nerd Lara Adler, who breaks down a ton of scientific info for us, including: -How the industry studies chemical toxicity, and how this isn't the best approach to determining the actual effects on our health -Specifically how these chemicals impact our hormone receptors, as well as how they mimic our own hormones -Where to look for the biggest offenders, and how to start clearing these chemicals out of your environment This is a power-packed episode of information that will surprise you, and just might be the key to your hormonal dysregulation. Lara Adler is a Certified Holistic Health Coach and self-educated Environmental Toxins Expert. She's been a featured speaker on over a dozen Summits, dozens of podcasts, and appeared in a 9-Part Documentary Film Series viewed by millions around the world. She is a member of the Naturopathic Association of Environmental Medicine and the American Holistic Health Association. She's attended lectures and symposiums presented by highly respected institutions like the New York Academy of Sciences, and the Mount Sinai Children's Environmental Health Center and by many of the top names in Epigenetics, Hormone Disruption, and Environmental Health, on topics ranging from prenatal chemical exposures to environmental chemicals impact on the developing brain. Join Dr. William Suk and Dr. Elizabeth Seymour for this impactful episode about toxic and hazardous waste (RX prescriptions, electronics, batteries, factory waste, mercury, lead etc.) in our landfills, food, water and air. Dr. Suk, from NIH, expert in environmental exposures, explores the numerous chemicals we are exposed to throughout our lifetime. One of these chemicals is arsenic, which tests in high quantities in the human body. Exposure to arsenic is most common near mines or in mining towns, but also occurs naturally in the earth and can be found in ground water (well water in Maine and Vermont). Arsenic is also found in our daily products, such as our food (particularly our rice in the USA) and in lightening and whitening beauty products. Arsenic exposure has serious cardiovascular repercussions, can cause diabetes, and birth defects in fetuses exposed before birth. Dr. Emily Seymour, from the Environmental Health Center of Dallas reminds us that there are many tests to dig deeper under the surface of your symptoms. Simply because you enter a doctors office with fatigue does not mean you are anemic, you may have toxin exposures you aren't aware of, and you can take control of your health and connect with environmental health doctors like Dr. Seymour to treat your whole body, not just your symptoms. Much of our exposure is unsurprisingly pesticide exposure, as well as heavy metal, RX prescription toxin exposure in our drinking water. While you may not immediately show symptoms of toxic exposure the effects are longterm and catastrophic. Dr. Seymour offers some important alternatives to stay away from pesticide, RX prescription and other toxic exposure. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/healthy-radio/support

Today, Vidal welcomes one of the highest exponents in the environmental field, Ken Cook.   Ken Cook, president and co-founder of Environmental Working Group, is widely recognized as one of the environmental community's most prominent and influential critics of industrial agriculture, U.S. food and farm policy, and the nation's broken approach to protecting families and children from toxic substances.   Under Cook's leadership over the past 20 years, EWG has pioneered the use of digital technologies to expose the harms done by misconceived crop subsidies, crop insurance, and runaway agricultural pollution. The organization has also empowered American families with easy-to-use, data-driven tools to help reduce their exposure to potentially harmful ingredients in foods, drinking water, cosmetics and other household products. These unique digital resources are searched hundreds of millions of times by consumers, journalists, and policymakers.   Cook is a widely sought public speaker on these and other environmental health issues and is frequently cited for the outsized impact that his and EWG's work has had on policy debates in Washington and state and local governments across the country.   Cook has addressed food, agriculture, and toxics policy in countless media interviews, including with 60 Minutes, CBS Evening News, NBC Nightly News, the Today Show, MSNBC, CNBC, FOX Business News, CNN's Anderson Cooper 360, The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Associated Press, Reuters, The Los Angeles Times and The San Francisco Chronicle. He testifies regularly before House and Senate committees and for the past 20 years has briefed top White House officials and every U.S. Secretary of Agriculture and EPA Administrator on EWG's research and policy positions.   He has been recognized with multiple awards from health and environmental organizations including Mount Sinai Hospital's Children's Environmental Health Center, the U.S. Healthful Food Council, and Epidemic Answers.   Cook is a board member of Food Policy Action (and founding chairman), Organic Voices and the Amazon Conservation Team and a former member of the board of the Organic Center. He earned a B.A. in history, a B.S. in agriculture and an M.S. in soil science at the University of Missouri-Columbia.   Get ready to learn the truth about the products you are buying.
