Send us a textThis week on the podcast, we're continuing with my series on 101 Weight Loss Truths! In this stretch, these truths are all about mindset, measurement, and motivation. From the emotional power of non-scale victories, to the importance of managing your expectations, I'm diving into the mental shifts that keep real, lasting weight loss moving forward. These truths are essential if you've ever felt frustrated by slow progress or discouraged by unrealistic goals, because we've all been there! Tune in to hear more on: • Why non-scale victories (NSVs) matter just as much, and sometimes more, than the number on the scale. • How a mental NSV, like leaving food on your plate, can be as transformational as losing pounds. • The difference between realistic and unrealistic goals, and why “possible” isn't the same as “plausible.” • Why setting too-high goals may secretly be a form of self-sabotage. • How managing expectations helps you avoid burnout and disappointment. • Why weight loss is a psychological and emotional journey, not just a physical one. • How small, incremental changes are the key to evolving into the person you want to be.We all want results, but what keeps us going is how we feel while we're doing the work. I hope these truths will help you stay the course, keep showing up, and trust that steady change is what really lasts. Remember: keep trying, keep tracking, don't be intimidated, and don't give up. Send us a textIn this special 99th episode of Disrupting Obesity, I'm taking a step back from our usual format to share a behind-the-scenes look at what really comes up inside the Flamingo Forum. From breakthrough coaching moments to key mindset shifts, we're diving deep into the real-world tools that help transform your relationship with food. This episode explores the difference between healthy and helpful, why calorie counting isn't the enemy, and how small, sustainable changes like understanding food "vehicles" and using safety nets instead of rigid rules, can create a lasting, realistic approach to weight loss without the overwhelm of restriction. Listen in to hear more on:• Why safety nets work better than rules when it comes to food habits.• The science of the “20-minute rule” and how it helped me let go of guilt.• How we've been taught to fear hunger, and why that messaging is broken.• The truth about emotional hunger and how to manage it.• How to mentally bounce back from a binge day with data, not shame.• The difference between “good” vs. “helpful” foods, and why moralizing food needs to stop.• Vehicle hacking: the art of saving hundreds of calories without sacrificing what you love.• Why slow, manageable changes can help you finally keep the weight off.Food isn't the enemy. Neither are you. If you've ever felt stuck between diet culture and emotional eating, this episode is your reminder that there is a way to build trust with your body again, and that starts by shifting the tools you use. In this episode of The Roller Coaster Podcast, I sat down with someone whose story shook me to my core, Bruce Pitcher. You might know him from Extreme Weight Loss, but trust me, that's just the surface.Bruce's journey is one of the most raw and powerful I've ever heard. From surviving childhood sexual abuse by his own father, who was later convicted and imprisoned, to living through years of silence, shame, and suicidal thoughts, Bruce opens up about the pain, the survival mode, and the uphill battle to rebuild his life. But this is not a story of defeat. It's one of redemption. Bruce lost over 200 pounds, built a coaching empire, became a father, and, more than anything, reclaimed his identity. In this conversation, he shares the emotional moment his suicide attempt failed and how that “failure” saved his life.If you've ever felt broken, unseen, or stuck in your past, this episode is a reminder that belief, especially when it's hard to hold onto, is the most powerful thing you can have. This one is heavy. It's honest. And it just might change how you see yourself.Key Moments.0:00 The Day the Police Took My Dad1:16 A Son's Desperate Need for Love7:01 Why Victims Stay Silent13:07 I Found Comfort in Food15:07 God Had a Plan, Even Through the Pain24:24 This Letter Changed My Life29:18 It's the Little Victories That Matter Most33:14 I Gained Weight Again, But I'm Not Hiding36:21 The Day I Tried to End My Life43:17 My Addiction Is Food45:25 What I Want My Son to RememberGuest Info.Instagram: @brucepitcher (https://www.instagram.com/brucepitcher/)YouTube: @brucethepit (https://www.youtube.com/user/brucethepit)-Where to find Tyler Hall: LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/tylerchall/ Newsletter: https://www.linkedin.com/newsletters/the-tyler-hall-archives-7018241874482122753/ Twitter: https://twitter.com/sirTHALL Work with Tyler: https://www.tylerchristianhall.com/
Send us a textWe are still in spring cleaning mode, so I'm back answering another batch of your questions in this Ask Whatever #33! This marks our fourth (or maybe fifth?) Q&A in a row and I'm not stopping yet because I love these conversations and what they bring out, so don't hesitate to send in your questions! From nighttime eating, to navigating motivation after 50 pounds lost, we cover it all. I'll get into the deep of what actually helps long-term weight loss with no fluff, just tools and mindset work that can actually make a difference. In this episode, I'll get into and answer:• Why you shouldn't add back calories just because your fitness tracker says you burned them. • The difference between physical and emotional hunger and how to tell which one you're dealing with. • Why your relationship with food matters more than meal plans or macro targets. • The emotional patterns behind overeating, “comfort, reward, and cope” and how to recognize them. • Why it's okay to want weight loss for reasons outside of health. • How to stay focused when motivation dips, especially after hitting major goal milestones. • What to do about nighttime eating and how to break the habit of grabbing food at 3 a.m. • How gradual calorie reduction works better than jumping straight into a big deficit. • The truth about starvation mode, and why eating less sometimes won't slow down your progress. If you're feeling stuck, discouraged, or just trying to figure out what's next, this episode will hopefully inspire you to take the next step forward. You're not alone in this work, so just remember to keep trying, keep tracking, don't be intimidated, and don't give up. Losing weight can be a lifelong struggle, and no body knows about that more than Mark King. At his heaviest he was 886 pounds, and how he knew his exact weight was because the hospital literally had to take him to the zoo and use the scales that they have there for the animals. That was a few years ago, but since then Mark has lost an astonishing 363 pounds and is still moving and grooving towards losing even more weight and reclaiming his health and fitness. In this podcast interview Mark share's his incredible weight loss journey, from the struggles he faced early in childhood that caused him to go down the road of extreme obesity. To hitting his rock bottom. And now coming out the other side as a better person, and sharing his story to help inspire others who are struggling with their weight. This podcast goes beyond the normal diet and exercise advice that you've heard before. When you're mega fat like mark, you can't just rely on counting calories, tracking macros, and getting 10,000 steps per day. That Approach Does NOT Work for Really BIG People. In this podcast we're going to reveal the truth behind achieving an extreme weight loss transformation. So if you're at rock bottom and feel like there's no hope to turn things around, then this podcast is for you. Send us a textStarting off the New Year with something a bit more fun and a little unusual, but still the topic of weight loss: old school diet myths! Doing a bit of research I came across a crazy series of fad diets that not only spans to things our grandparents and parents did, but some from hundreds of years ago! A few of them I had never heard of, some I thought were much newer than they actually are, and I'll even share a handful of ones I've tried myself in the past! Between the kind laughs, I'll also touch on why people, myself included, have fallen for these diets and why some of them “kind of” worked, of course bringing it back to the true effective weight loss method, the calorie deficit! Tune into hear me chat more about:• Diets by decade from single food diets, to skipping breakfast, to special food combos and liquid diets.• Topical creams, slimming soaps and shaking the weight off with belts and chairs. • Raw food diets and foods that were claimed to be bad, like eggs.• The low-fat food craze and starvation mode myth.• Reflections on the patterns and how we've always been obsessed with “easy” weight loss. On today's episode of Good Bodies, Emily and Lauren start things off with a Good Body Grab Bag from a listener who shares how she was able to advocate for herself at the doctor's office after repeatedly being told to basically shake off the pain. Then, they delve into today's bizarre Scoop all about viral YouTube-er, Nikocado Avocado who has recently “pulled one over” on his fans. In today's "Ask Me Anything" episode Heather tackles two listener questions: 1) What do I say when a friend loses weight (and everyone else is complimenting her)? 2) Why is it bad to put myself down? I'd never say anything mean about someone else's body, so what's the problem with criticizing mine and saying that I don't like the way I look? Heather tackles both of these questions from the perspective of what the Bible asks of us, that is: speaking the truth in love (Ephesians 4:15). She gives a hope-filled answer for the one who is struggling to know what to say after a friend loses a considerable amount of weight (through a risky method). Heather also offers some encouragement for how you can help the friend, family member, or co-worker who can't stop putting her self down. Don't forget to check out Heather's brand new book, "The 40-Day Body Image Workbook." If you purchase the book this month you can get the 5 free walking workouts to help you process the content. Chris Powell is probably best known as the host of the ABC reality show Extreme Weight Loss, which ran for five seasons. On that show, Chris used his experience as a fitness trainer and all around motivational human to help people who wanted to lose 200 pounds or more. And Chris doesn't seem like the kind of guy to experience mental illness. He comes across as very energetic, very positive, and someone not at all hounded by personal demons. But that's the thing about disorders like anxiety and depression and substance use, anyone can get them and anyone can get damaged. In this interview, Chris talks about his childhood experiences with debilitating anxiety, his time spent as a flight instructor who was desperately afraid to fly airplanes, and his time addicted to painkillers. He also details the effect his divorce had on his mental health. But Chris is healthy now and has some very practical advice based on how he's been getting healthier.Listen to the I Needed That Podcast with Chris Powell & Mathew Blades wherever fine pods are cast.
