What if the key to overcoming stress and unhealthy habits isn't just in your thoughts but in rewiring your brain? Renowned expert and bestselling author Dr. Laurel Mellin joins us to uncover the transformative power of Emotional Brain Training (EBT), a method that challenges the traditional focus on positive thinking and behavioral changes. Dr. Laurel shares fascinating insights into how emotions are deeply rooted in the brain's neurophysiology, not merely in the heart, and how this understanding can lead to lasting change in our health and well-being.Throughout our conversation, we explore how EBT categorizes five distinct brain states influenced by stress levels and how these states drive behaviors like overeating. Dr. Laurel guides us through the science of stress circuits, particularly the role of the amygdala in activating harmful behaviors when we feel unsafe or unrewarded. By focusing on neuroplasticity, EBT offers a structured method to rewire these circuits, emphasizing the importance of compassion and group support in achieving personal transformation.Join us as we delve into the holistic benefits of EBT, where the cultivation of joy becomes a spiritual and physiological practice. Dr. Laurel's 30-day challenge and her book "One, Two, Three, Joy" provide further resources for those eager to embark on this empowering journey. Science says our subconscious controls up to 90% of our behavior, which is why listening to affirmations while sleeping or in a relaxed "theta" state can be so powerful, as our ego isn't awake to block the messages. I put together the best affirmations for weight loss out there, plus some of my own, into a course called the Weight Loss Sleep Meditation and the Mindful Body meditations. They are available over at ClubQigong.com which is linked in my bio. And even if you only join for a month, you can download the meditations to keep forever.

Introduction: Frustration with extreme weight loss approaches. Passion for healing metabolism for natural weight regulation. Introduction to Metabolic Endotoxemia (ME) and its link to gut health. Understanding Metabolic Endotoxemia (ME): ME linked to microbiome insult, impacting gut health. Factors include antibiotics, c-section, lack of breastfeeding, and low-fiber diet. Vicious cycle: Microbiome issues lead to low fiber, worsening diversity. Leaky gut allows lipopolysaccharides (LPS) to trigger systemic inflammation. Altered hunger signaling and reduced satiety hormones contribute to obesity. Impact of Endotoxemia: Metabolic syndrome features tied to ME: inflammation, insulin resistance, central fat storage, hypertension, and dyslipidemia. Scientific Quotes on Endotoxemia: Gut dysbiosis induces oxidative stress and ME, major drivers of obesity. Oxidative stress key in developing complications of type 2 diabetes. Gut dysbiosis linked to chronic inflammation in coronary artery disease. Studies and Interventions: Diet High in Fiber, Polyphenols, and Functional Foods: Improved metabolic markers in type 2 diabetes subjects. Lowered blood sugar, cholesterol, triglycerides, and inflammation. Flaxseed Intervention: Lowered intestinal permeability and LPS in perimenopausal, overweight females. Pomegranate Extract: Reduced inflammation, improved gut bacteria, and lowered endotoxemia in overweight subjects with high cholesterol. Resistant Dextrin (Prebiotic): Lowered endotoxemia, improved sleep, quality of life, inflammation, and blood sugar in type 2 diabetes females. Probiotic (Lactobacillus Rosis GG): Improved inflammation, lowered endotoxemia, and enhanced metabolic outcomes in coronary artery disease subjects. Symbiotic Intervention (Probiotic + Prebiotic): Significant improvement in endotoxemia, inflammation, and metabolic markers in subjects with obesity. Practical Applications and Recommendations: Testing for endotoxemia using LPS antibodies. Dietary focus on high polyphenol, unrefined carbs, high-fiber, and nutrient-dense foods. Power foods include flax seeds, chia seeds, true fermented yogurt, and pomegranate extract. Individualized approach for gut dysbiosis, starting with digestive support. Conclusion: Emphasis on the gut-metabolism connection. Majority may have endotoxemia, a main driver of type 2 diabetes and obesity. Solutions involve optimizing gut health through diet, supplements, and personalized approaches. References used in this episode: 1.Medina-Vera I, Sanchez-Tapia M, Noriega-Lopez L, et al. Weight loss is already incredibly difficult on your own until you calculate the other people in your life into the mix. This is the first episode in a 3 part series where I'll be talking about saboteurs and enablers. Today we'll be focusing on saboteurs, the people who try to throw you off track in this journey. So listen in to hear more on:• What a saboteur is and how understanding their possible motivations can help how you feel about them. • Reminding yourself what they are doing is about them, not you.• Knowing you have choices in how you respond and what you do about it.• 3 big things your response might be dependent on, and questions you can ask yourself. At the end of the day, you can only control your own choices in these situations, so taking the time to think about it and have a plan can make all the difference. If you are interested in learning more about The 3A Way tool that I mentioned, check out my past episode 12 here!So keep trying, keep tracking, don't be intimidated and don't give up. If you do not want the side effects or the high cost of weight loss drugs like Ozempic, this episode is for you!! In this episode of The Chalene Show podcast, Chalene Johnson weighs the pros and cons of FDA-approved weight loss drugs like Ozempic versus natural alternatives like Berberine. If you're wary of these pharmaceutical solutions, there's good news! Natural alternatives like Berberine have similar glucose-regulating effects but without the side effects of synthetic drugs. Other supplements to consider for natural weight loss and better glucose management include Yerba Mate Tea and Magnesium. Yerba Mate can increase the hormone GLP-1 naturally, aiding in appetite suppression. Magnesium is critical for insulin sensitivity and many other bodily functions; yet, it's often overlooked, especially in people over 40. A balanced diet rich in protein, complex carbs, and soluble fiber can also regulate your blood sugar and weight naturally. For those looking for an active approach, don't overlook the benefits of walking and weight training. These exercises not only improve insulin sensitivity but also help build muscle, which in turn boosts your metabolism. For a safer, potentially more effective approach to weight loss and diabetes management, tune in. Always consult your healthcare provider before making changes. Watch this episode on YouTube! As our summer days are coming to an end, I must say that I'm really going to miss it. I had some of my most memorable moments from enjoying the hot sandy beaches, walking on the boardwalk, to hiking in some of the most beautiful forests that I've ever seen, as well as spending quality time with family and friends. Although Summer can bring fond memories, it can also present challenges regarding our health. I know this all too well living on the Jersey shore. One of the things that we are on high alert about is Tick season which is from May-October. If you are bitten by a tick this can lead to Lyme Disease. If left untreated, Lyme Disease can lead to more severe complications affecting the joints, heart, and nervous system. For years, my guest on today's show, Dr. Kim Grom, suffered from unexplained illnesses that she didn't know stemmed from Lyme Disease. She candidly shares how faith strengthened her for the healing journey and what holistic treatments she implemented to recover and maintain her health. Listen. Apply. Transform.
