I reviewed "FAIK, A Practical Guide To Living In A World Of Deepfakes, Disinformation, and AI-Generated Deceptions", by Perry Carpenter. This publication came across as highly engaging, innovatively written, and a worthwhile read for all in our digital age. FAIK: Navigating AI, Deepfakes and Deception Safely, reviewed Many related publications focus on the mechanics of AI, security, and the process for handling identified issues. This easy-to-read publication was more holistic, wider in scope, yet more people focused. The author's coverage started with an exploration of technology as a tool for good or evil. He then moves seamlessly into AI, its inflection point to good or evil outcomes, and how our general understanding of it can mitigate its risk. A fascinating angle to this book is the human intelligence v article intelligence angle. The author explores the human art of deception that has found an accomplice in AI, and how this changes the threat landscape for us all. The book has a balanced feel to it, with each chapter containing a story, acting as a chapter anchor. It then explores the topic behind it and offers practical takeaways to deepen the reader's knowledge of deception using AI. This theme is present throughout the book, with quality advice on how to deal with deception, such as the SIFT method. The author is not shy about his writing goal. He tells us it is ok to be AI curious once we understand how to deal with its deceptive dark side. I found this practical outlook to be illustrative, which made concepts easy to grasp. The forward and introduction are worth a read. It familiarizes the reader with the author's writing style, as it lays out the book's content in an easy to digest manner. This publication, comprising 10 chapters, has three main parts. Chapters 1 to 3 are an overview of AI, and synthetic media (AI produced content), which includes deep fakes. Chapters 4 to 7 are an exploration of the emerging threat landscape, which includes AI based deception, along with tactics to deal with them. Chapters 8 to 10 are about self protection, and protection for your community regarding AI. This section continues the theme of self-contained chapters, which are also linked, by topic, into a whole-of-book read. Chapter 10, "A New Hope", has the now familiar dramatization story as an italic opener, to be followed by an exploration, and a powerful call to action. The author tells us, "criminals have means, motive, and opportunity. But so do we". This community collaboration against AI abusers, such as scammers, disinformation groups, plus more, makes sense. While quality takeaways are present in every chapter, the takeaways in this final chapter go wider, yet still strike deep. They inform us of how we can protect ourselves and each other in a world filled with AI. I found the exploration of AI basics, the deception game and the quality of advice to be of enormous benefit to any reader. It humanizes the issues as it defines technological intelligence as separate from human intelligence. Understanding AI's adversarial dark side and its interaction with humans is key. It is how we can collaborate with AI using a wise degree of caution. That the genii is out of the bottle regarding AI is of note, as is the infection point we are now at. Taking the initiative back from bad-actors, and looking to understand AI's dark side as much as its potential, is our best path forward. Its potential can make or break us as a species. This book allows us to take the brave first step into AI, and why human understanding can still prevail. To do that, we need to understand the human art of deception as delivered through AI, and how AI's potential relies on human input to drive it forward. How that happens next is up to us. Today on the podcast we are joined by Faik Bourik, founder of Vegius, a provider of vegan services to support farmed animal sanctuaries worldwide.  Faik is a mathematics, physics, and astronomy college instructor who combines his academic background with his roles as a professional writer and entrepreneur. Passionate about animal rights and gender equality, he founded Vegius to provide much needed financial support to farmed animal sanctuaries. Faik talks about how he fell for the humane hoax and bought humanely labeled products when he was first thinking about farmed animal issues. He shares how little meat he ate growing up in Algeria and how the traditional diets of so many cultures around the world are predominately plant-based. He talks about the importance of farmed animal sanctuaries to open people's hearts and to make emotional connections to animals. Hatta yakın geçmişte, kendini siyaseten bu kadar keskin çizgilerle sınırlamadığı günlerde, 21 Ocak 2010'da CNNTürk'te sunduğu “Medya Mahallesi” programına da katılmıştım. Sonraları zaman zaman beni ciddi boyutta şaşırttığını teslim etmeliyim. Bazen içimden “Bu sana hiç yakışmadı be Ayşenur Abla” dediğim de oldu... Pazar günü Ankara'da yaşanan bombalı PKK saldırısına getirdiği yoruma, ortak anılarımız adına üzüldüğümü de itiraf etmeliyim. Gazetecinin şüphelerini dile getirmesinde yadırganacak bir şey olmayabilir... Ancak bu şüpheleri “Ben çok film izlerim” diyerek, elinde delil olmaksınız suçlu görüneni suçsuz, saldırıya uğrayanı ise asıl failmiş gibi konumlayarak yapması da bir gazetecilik faaliyeti olmaz... CHP Genel Başkanı Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu'nun Zafer Partisi Lideri Ümit Özdağ'la “gizli protokol” imzaladığını itiraf etmesi, hem kendi partisinde hem de 8'li masa koalisyonunda deprem etkisi yarattı. Daha önce gizli protokol olmadığını söyleyen CHP Sözcüsü Faik Öztrak'ı da boşa düşüren bu açıklamanın ardından Kılıçdaroğlu'na tepkiler peş peşe geldi. Türkiye'de kamuoyu Kılıçdaroğlu'nun yalancılığını, zübük karakteri misali İçişleri Bakanlığı'nı iki siyasetçiye birden vermesini daha o süreçte seçimleri kazanma ümidi olmadığına yormuş. Kılıçdaroğlu CHP MYK'sından, sözcüsünden ve Altılı Masa'daki ortaklarından habersiz bir şekilde Özdağ'a İçişleri Bakanlığı ile birlikte üç bakanlık ve MİT Başkanlığı sözünü vermiş. 14 Mayıs öncesinde MYK üyesi olan, seçim sonrası örgütlerden sorumlu danışmanlığa getirdiği Engin Özkoç'a söz verdiği İçişleri Bakanlığı'nı Özdağ'a da ikram etmiş.

Mahkeme heyeti bir tanığın daha dinlenmesi yönünde karar vererek duruşmayı 5 Haziran'a erteledi. When I saw the post I knew that this was someone that I wanted to talk to.  I reached out to Faik to ask if he'd like to be on the podcast and he said that he did and he kindly found the time during the launch of the platform to have a chat with me. By the time you listen to this podcast, the platform will be a few weeks old, but I have high hopes for this platform. Personally, I am really excited about it because when I travel, I love to visit or even better, stay in sanctuaries, and as someone who researches and looks for sanctuaries for our trips it is actually quite hard to do this, especially when it is a small sanctuary, is in a different language or perhaps doesn't have a web presence so this is answering a real need!

Son günlerde etkili olan kar yağışı özellikle Doğu ve Güneydoğu'da yaşamı olumsuz etkilerken, ziraat mühendisi ve tarım yazarı Faik Toy, kar yağışının 2022 için kuraklığı bertaraf ettiğini belirtti. Toy, kar yağışının geçen yıl kuraklık yaşayan ve bu yıl yüzde 400'leri bulan gübre zammı nedeniyle yeterli gübre kullanamayan çiftçiyi bir nebze olma mutlu ettiğini söyledi. Türkiye İstatistik Kurumu'nun (TÜİK) açıkladığı ve devlet tarafından hububat alımında baz alınacak olan tarımsal girdi maliyetleri rakamlarının gerçeği yansıtmadığını vurgulayan Toy, “TÜİK çiftçiyi sırtından hançerledi. Yüzde 400-500'leri bulan gübre zamlarını TÜİK yüzde 120 gösterdi. Yine diğer maliyetlerde de aynı şeyi yaptı. Girdi maliyetlerinde üç kata varan artış olmasına rağmen TÜİK bunları yüzde 20'lerde gösteriyor. TÜİK başkanı çiftçilerin ahını almıştır” diye konuştu.

Döviz kurlarındaki oynaklık gerekçe gösterilerek gıda fiyatlarına yapılan zamlar, dövizin düşmesi ile yeniden gündeme geldi. Doların 11 lira seviyesine gerilemesiyle ile gıda fiyatlarının düşüp düşmeyeceği tartışma konusu olurken, ziraat mühendisi ve tarım yazarı Faik Toy, gıda fiyatlarının düşmeyeceğini, hatta gelecek yıl daha da artacağı konusunda uyarıda bulundu.

Türkiye'de bu yıl 50 ilde yaşanan kuraklıktan büyük ölçüde etkilenen çiftçiler, şimdi de gübre fiyatlarının ortalama yüzde 250 zamlanmasıyla kara kara düşünmeye başladı. Ziraat mühendisi, çiftçi ve tarım yazarı Faik Toy, devletin bir dekar için çiftçiye 8 Türk Lirası gübre desteği verdiğini ama destek 200 lira bile olsa çiftçiyi kurtaramayacağını söyledi. Çiftçinin bu yıl kuraklıktan dolayı ürettiğinin hepsini satması halinde gübre bile alamayacağını söyleyen Toy, “Önümüzdeki yıl gübre kuraklığı yaşanacak. Bu da gıda fiyatlarında kaos ve fahiş fiyatlara neden olacaktır. Girdi maliyetlerini düşürmekten başka hiçbir çözüm yoktur” diye konuştu.
