At just twenty years old, transgender wunderkind Alice Maio Mackay has crafted a filmography that would make most seasoned professionals envious. Alice's filmography is built within a defiantly independent space that centres queer stories on screen. From 2021's short film The Serpent's Nest, to the run of genre defying horror and sci-fi feature films that includes 2021's So Vam, 2022's Bad Girl Boogey, 2023's T-Blockers and Satranic Panic, and 2024's Carnage for Christmas, Alice has showed other filmmakers the possibilities of independent cinema within Australia.Alice follows in the footsteps of fellow Aussie trans filmmaker Dee McLachlan, who made a name for herself with the 2007 film The Jammed and the acclaimed series Wentworth, paving a way for fellow trans filmmakers in Australia and across the world. With her own distinct style of filmmaking, Alice has inspired and worked with fellow trans filmmakers like Vera Drew (The People's Joker) and Louise Weard (Castration Movie). Trans critic Willow Catelyn Maclay called this trio of filmmakers the 'Three Headed Hydra of Edgy Doll Cinema' and it's their collective filmography that is shaping what modern trans storytelling looks like in cinema. If you haven't already picked up Corpses, Fools and Monsters: The History and Future of Transness in Cinema by Willow and fellow critic Caden Mark Gardner, then make sure to do so. It is one of the vital books about queer cinema. In the following interview, Alice talks about kicking off her career as a filmmaker in Kaurna-Adelaide, growing up on a diet of Buffy and Keeping Up Appearances, while also talking about the fun of making an Australian Christmas film and working alongside non-binary actor Zarif, who has also made a name for themselves as they help shape what Australian queer cinema looks like on screen. There's a notion of communal friendship that exists within Buffy that can be felt as a connective thread of Alice's work. It's a foundational aspect of T-Blockers, which sees a small town overrun by parasites that turn everyday men into horrifying, possessed hosts that spew literal bile, hatred, and violence, threating the local queer community. T-Blockers is a wickedly subversive film that engages in politics and queer identity, while also showing the possibilities of independent genre filmmaking.Alice's work can be found on Shudder or Vinegar Syndrome (T-Blockers, Carnage for Christmas), and all good places where you can rent films. If you want to find out more about the work we do on The Curb, then head over to TheCurb.com.au. Welcome to The Times of Israel's Daily Briefing, your 20-minute audio update on what's happening in Israel, the Middle East and the Jewish world. In today's episode, ToI senior analyst Haviv Rettig Gur joins host Amanda Borschel-Dan for a special bonus episode of our weekly What Matters Now podcast. Former Iranian foreign minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, an Iranian career diplomat who participated in the previous round of nuclear talks, has been Iran's vice president for strategic affairs since August. In that role, he wrote an op-ed in the bimonthly Foreign Affairs journal. The century-old magazine focuses on international relations and policy and can serve as a platform to float ideas and hear reasoned responses. In Zarif's article, "How Iran Sees the Path to Peace," among the arguments raised was the idea of a "referendum" voting on the governance of the territory that largely includes the Jewish state. "Iran can continue to play a constructive role in ending the current humanitarian nightmare in Gaza and work with the international community to pursue a lasting and democratic solution to the conflict," writes Zarif. "Iran will agree to any solution acceptable to Palestinians, but our government believes that the best way out of this century-long ordeal would be a referendum in which everyone living between the Jordan River and the Mediterranean Sea — Muslims, Christians, and Jews — and Palestinians driven to diaspora in the twentieth century (along with their descendants) would be able to determine a viable future system of governance. This is in line with international law and would build on the success of South Africa, where an apartheid system was transformed into a viable democratic state." To Rettig Gur, Zarif's op-ed -- filled with posturing and warnings to the Western world -- is a sign of Iran's faltering regime and he explains why. So this week, we discuss this new era of Iranian potential weakness and how the West needs to handle it wisely, as Haviv Rettig Gur weighs in on what matters now. For news updates, please check out The Times of Israel's ongoing live blog. The Middle East finds itself teetering on the brink of a full-scale regional conflict as the world marks one year since the October 7th Hamas attacks. Israel has intensified its military operations against Iran-backed forces across multiple fronts, leaving destruction in its wake. In the span of a week, the assassination of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah and Israel's ground offensive into Lebanon have thrown gasoline on an already raging fire.On this episode of the GZERO World Podcast, Ian Bremmer sits down with Iran's Vice President for Strategic Affairs Mohammad Javad Zarif, just before the Nasrallah assassination news broke. They discuss Iran's recent actions during this critical time. In their conversation, Zarif discusses the conflict's broader regional impact, Iran's right to self-defense, and its determination that Iran will not fall into Israel's “trap.” Zarif also weighs in on the upcoming US presidential election, speculating on whether a Harris or Trump administration would benefit Iran, and addresses the rumors of an alleged Iranian plot to assassinate former President Donald Trump. He says, "We don't send people to assassinate people. I think it's a campaign ploy." Zarif adds that, despite the new Iranian President's pledge for a rapprochement with the West, recent developments have only driven the wedge further. And with Israel now in northern Lebanon, Iran now stands at a crossroads of what to do next.Host: Ian BremmerGuest: Mohammad Javad Zarif Subscribe to the GZERO World with Ian Bremmer Podcast on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or your preferred podcast platform, to receive new episodes as soon as they're published.

Herhangi bir ülkenin üç süper gücün hilafına İsrail'i vurması mümkün mü? Yine de Dışişleri Bakanı'nı bile atamadan Cevad Zarif'i stratejik işlerden sorumlu yardımcılığına atadı. Zarif'i anlatmaya gerek yok. Çin resmi dili, İsrail'in durdurulmasından yana. Rusya açısından yine aynı saikler geçerli olmakla birlikte, ABD ve İsrail'in İran'ı vurması durumunda rejimi düşürme potansiyeli yeşerteceğini, bunun hayati nitelikte jeopolitik kayıp oluşturacağını teşhis etmesi. (Aynı düşünceyi/kaygıyı Çin de paylaşıyor.)

Önceki yazımızda Hz. Ukbe b. Nafi'nin (ra), Tanca'yı da fethederek, serin dalgalarıyla atının ayaklarını ıslatan Atlas Okyanusu'na doğru “Rabbim, şayet önümdeki şu deniz olmasaydı ben bu ülkede senin yolunda cihat etmek üzere devam edip gidecektim” şeklindeki nidasını onun cihat konusundaki cehdine örnek olarak vermiştik. Cihat, İslam'ın en muhteşem eylem biçimlerinden biridir. Çünkü hayatın her cephesini kapsar. Asla tarafgirlik yapmazlar. Onlar Allah'ın nurudurlar, Kendi işleriyle uğraşırlar, kalpleri temizdir. Burası Mağrib'in medar-i iftiharı, sultanın merkezi, ana rükunlardan biridir.

Thrilled to start 2024 with this episode! This week's guests are actor, teacher, philosopher, cannabis advocate, and comedian Shawn Wickens (@timetravelingstoned), back for the third time, and explorer and musician Zarif (@spaceroyz). Co-host Aston Hollins (@astonhollins) and I had such a deeply enjoyable hang at Radio Free Brooklyn studios with these two na'er do-wells. The four of us talked about Interstellar vs The Martian, the lazy bohemian lifestyle, Jane Goodall, Jamiroquai vs Aphex Twin, Zarif describes his style of music which he calls "Ocean music", Shawn gives his definition of jazz, Aston shares about her end of the year blues, and we all sing Prince's Seven together. As if all these good natured hijinks weren't enough, we still managed to get into plenty super silly improv scenes including a scene about a very relaxed and laidback crew of space explorers. This episode really delighted me, and I'm so thankful it's our first episode of the year. Shawn and I have known each other nearly a decade and we have worked a lot with Zarif, I couldn't have thought of a better set of guests to kick the year off with. Thank you to all of you who listen to the podcast and enjoy it. Starting off on this note I feel excited about what this year will bring about for the podcast. I appreciate you being on this journey with us. Enjoy this episode!
Üçüncü râşid halife Hz. Osman (r.a.)'in orta yapılı bir bünyesi vardı. Hz. Osman (r.a.) ilk müslüman olanlardandır. Hz. Osman'a “İki Nur Sahibi” anlamına gelen “Zînnûreyn” denmiştir. Çünkü o Resûlullâh (s.a.v.)'in iki kızı ile evlenmiştir. İlk olarak Hz. Peygamber (s.a.v.)'in kızı Rukiye (r.anhâ) ile evlenmiş, onun vefâtından sonra Ümmü Gülsüm (r.anhâ) ile evlenmiştir. Rivâyet olunduğuna göre Ümmü Gülsüm (r.anhâ)'nın da hicretin 9. yılında vefât etmesi üzerine, Hz. Peygamber (s.a.v.): “Eğer üçüncü bir kızım olsaydı, onu da seninle evlendirirdim” buyurmuştur. Resûlullâh (s.a.v.)'in bu şahitliği, Hz. Osman (r.a.)'in Peygamber (s.a.v.) katındaki değerini gösteren bir uygulamadır. Resûlullâh (s.a.v.)'in bu uygulamalı şahitliği yanında Hz. Osman (r.a.) için sözlü şahitliği de vardır. İhtiyaç halinde Hz. Osman (r.a.)'in cömert bir şekilde coşkun ve taşkın bir yardımını gören Hz. Peygamber (s.a.v.): “Bu günden sonra ne yaparsa yapsın, yaptığı Osman'a bir zarar vermez. Allâh'ım! Osman'dan razı ol! Çünkü ben Osman'dan razıyım” buyurdu. Bir başka münâsebetle Resûlullâh (s.a.v.) şöyle buyurdu: “Her peygamberin bir arkadaşı vardır. Benim cennette arkadaşım Osman'dır.” (Muhammed Mütevelli Şaravî, Cennetle Müjdelenen On Sahâbî, s.83-84)

In this episode, host David Abrams is in conversation with Rasheq Zarif, Co-founder and COO of ReWyre. Rasheq shares his career journey to the Proptech space after 2+ decades in the automotive and mobility industry. Rasheq saw that commercial real estate was ripe for disruption and that many of the challenges were similar to the auto industry, so he was able to apply his experience and methodology to disrupt CRE. Rasheq is now partnered with Ricky Chera, co-founding ReWyre, to support the property technology that is leading the digital transformation of the industry. Rasheq and ReWyre envision an ecosystem that contributes to a common cause by creating a neutral party to help transact for multiple solutions. Data will be a big driver for CRE to see the bigger picture, and according to Rasheq, this is where HILO is uniquely positioned to be able to better understand the customer's needs and provide a higher level of service. I loved Rasheq's thinking around buildings as environments, rather than assets. This way of thinking aligns with mine, as I've recognized for some time that buildings are really places for people. The only way to optimize real estate again is to solve the root cause of the problem, challenging building operators to create better workplace environments that people will want to spend time in. Rasheq views Tenant Experience, Safety and Security, and Climate Change as three main components of the Proptech ecosystem that are driving demand for emerging technology solutions. I am convinced that Racheq's unique background is going to allow him to see opportunities where others don't, helping to “ReWyre” the built world and future-proof buildings through enhancement, without having to make major changes to the infrastructure. When the pandemic hit Chelsea Brown needed to think fast, how could she take a company that was primarily leading the way in women's travel to the Middle East, to transform into a digital company? Chelsea is the founder and CEO of Millie, an organization that amplifies women's voices, believing in the power of expanded perspective, connection and kindness to improve lives. Chelsea is an equity activist and she started Millie to create jobs for women globally and to give voice to females who would otherwise not have a seat at the table. She created the Millie Marketplace to develop products that make a difference, partnering with Afghan fashion brand Zarif to create the Ikat tote bag for Afghanistan relief and with Femme International to produce African print dresses to end period poverty. She employs female artisans, many of whom are refugees and displaced persons around the world. This special collection connects people through stories and expands perspective, but most importantly, it creates employment opportunities and economic empowerment for women living around the world. We're so excited to have her on the podcast this week! To learn more about Chelsea Brown, visit our blog at www.

Caroline See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
