Tonight we made the transition from St. John's Step on Gluttony and its offspring to our discussion of Purity and Chastity in Step number 15. Again, as we read slowly through the text and begin to unpack it, we begin to see the larger picture; the image of humanity redeemed. We see what it means to be made in the image and likeness of God, and the experience of embracing our full dignity and identity.  What is held out to us is an incorruptible freedom and joy as our love becomes ordered toward God. We begin to see the true beauty of the things of the world, of others, and of God himself. As I've often mentioned, the desert fathers were the first depth psychologists; they present to us the path that brings healing of soul. They see the human person in his fullness and we see in their writings such our true dignity and destiny.  Our struggle often is found in the fact that we've never come to taste that freedom, the joy, the capacity to love unimpeded by our sin. The ascetic life is not about endurance, or personal health or the ordering of our life so much as it is about the desire for God, his love, and to share in the life that he makes possible for us. It has been said that “Beauty will save the world”. In the writings of the fathers, we are called to see this beauty first in the person of Christ; and in and through him the beauty of the life that is held out to us. The Source of Addiction If we are honest with ourselves, we all have addictions that are desires and cravings that only God can fulfill. Some addictions are much more socially acceptable, like overworking or overexercising when you need to be investing time with your family and friends. These addictions may destroy those we love most if not kept in check. Other addictions, such as overeating, alcohol, drugs, or sex, will ruin you as a person and those who love you most. We all must recognize addictions and compulsive behaviors for what it truly is, a heart yearning to be fulfilled by God. If our faith and trust were entirely in God, we would be completely satisfied at all times and would not need to bury ourselves in addictions. God knows our weaknesses and is available to complete us, if we allow him to do so. He provided Jesus Christ for salvation, and once we understand that, we can gradually increase our faith until our addictions fall away and our fullness is in Christ. Reading delivered by Michelle Salim (Jakarta, Indonesia) and meditation delivered by Andrew Lazaro (Jakarta, Indonesia) CONSISTENCY AS SERVANT The theme for our meditation today is: Consistency as Servant. There was an elementary student who managed to improve his red marks into high mark grades. During this improvement process, his mother and father took part in accompanying him to study. They really showed how importance this responsibility they should give to the child, and the immediate fruit of this was their daily disputes and even conflicts began to cool down. When it was proven that the child's final grades have turned out to be excellent, the quarrel and conflict between his parents have also totally gone. They began to have good times together and becoming more understanding to each other. When once they were dinning somewhere outside their house, the child had some meaningful words to his parents as he said: “I want to maintain these good grades, so I have to study hard from now on. Dad and Mam must also stay in harmony, and no more fighting." The child was actually not making a statement, but rather giving an advice. He was reminding of himself, his parents, and also all of us that maintaining what is already good and what is to be alwaus good is something mostly recommended. He wants that consistency is to be the best choice for all of us who want to be faithful in following our own calling. For us the followers of Christ and members of the holy Church, our experience of God's consistency toward us is tremendous. He is faithful to us in all things. Today we are reminded of God's faithfulness to accompany, to help, and to protect us. How unfortunate we are as messengers of Christ who do the mission of the Church and we are in the midst of wolves, where the threat of enemies comes any time as we do not expect any, and yet the Lord is consistent to be our Helper. Saint Paul warns that the threat of division among God's people, the members of the Church, is very evident. Differences in view points and competitions over many things of the world always lead to divisions between brothers and friends. A consistent Christian attitude really requires us to maintain fellowship among the followers of Christ and members of the Church. This consistency indeed shows how faithful we are to God who calls and sends us to the mission. For example, our being faithful as children in the family is a sign of our obedience to God who has made us children to our parents and families. The Lord Jesus gives us a parable of a servant who must be consistent in his duty, to be always standby for any moment the coming of his master. This is meant to teach us to prepare ourselves for any condition and any moment when God reveals His will to us. God is consistent in coming to us with all His blessings and intervention in our lives, we must also be consistent in accepting and fulfilling His will for us. Let's pray. Fathers including myself have been hurt by this pandemic just as anyone else and to be able to forgive don’t matter if you hit a person has Student Loan debt still or owe taxes whatever else but to now see if your black father you child support you don’t get the $1200. I think this is a crime honestly before Congress. To put in such a special initiative because every American has been hurt by this what they think that fathers have not lost their jobs this Season. This system of Child support to jails suspended licenses is it needs to be suspended right now as we are in this time it’s a not be able to receive any finances regarding help from the very Fathe or looking towards helping your kids to me is an atrocity. 2. Not All Black Father’s Are dead beats. The system is.. Not all black fathers are a deadbeat dad. Many fathers out there that are struggling doing our best to make sure the kids are fed doing our best to make sure the key is a confident doing it best to visit with the kids so when you have a deadbeat system as a state of child support which is a prison pipeline in itself it makes me wonder are they really there for the kids or are they there to continue to enslave black men without cause. We will start to see that there will only be two classes in America indefinitely. Rich and poor middle class out the door .
