News: Classic character meet and greets could be coming back soon! During a Q&A session at the Morgan Stanley Technology, Media, & Telecom Conference this week, Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of the Walt Disney Company Christine McCarthy said they should be returning “soon.” She pointed to the decline in Covid cases as a good indicator of the safety of the meet and greets. She also stated that meet and greets could help with long lines that have been at the parks recently. – https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2022/03/07/news-face-to-face-character-meet-and-greets-returning-soon-to-disney-parks/ and https://www.ocregister.com/2022/03/07/when-will-disneyland-let-mickey-mouse-hug-visitors-again/ At the same conference, we got some insight on the capacity of the parks currently. A question came up asking about the current capacity and if it was back to 100%. McCarthy said they are not back to full capacity, but they are close. When asked if the capacity would go back to pre-covid levels, her answer was no. The way in which they manage the parks is different now. Disney is looking forward to bringing back nighttime entertainment as that will help with the crowds that are happening now. – https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2022/03/07/are-disney-parks-back-at-full-capacity-yet-an-executive-answers/ and https://dlnewstoday.com/2022/03/disney-may-never-return-to-former-capacity-to-avoid-parks-bursting-at-the-seams-says-executive/ The first Villains Nite is happening as we record this episode, with the second nite on March 10th. The Disneyland app has posted the snacks and other items that will be available at the event. Some of the interesting items include a Maleficent Straw Clip at Smokejumpers Grill for $5.99, a Sweet Spiral Ration at Terran Treats for $6.25, and the Cruel Devil at Schmoozies for $8.49. The Fudge Easter Eggs that the food artisans at Disneyland create for Easter this year are rumored to be returning! Each egg has a surprise flavor inside. For those guests who would rather spoil the surprise, checking the label and looking at the ingredients is a good way to find out the filling. A Cast Member told the Disney Food Blog that they could be back as early as this past Sunday. Once they are available, they can be purchased in the Candy Palace. – https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2022/03/05/the-iconic-disneyland-easter-eggs-are-returning-soon/ A new treat has landed at Lamplight Lounge for the Food and Wine Festival. The dress is mint green, with vintage features like blue and pink records, white stars, the Flo's V-8 Cafe sign, and Flo herself. The dress also has a pink waistband, with pink capped sleeves, with a retro cut for the dress itself. The dress is $128. – https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2022/03/06/warning-if-you-love-disneys-cars-land-hide-your-wallet/ Magic Key Holders may notice a slightly updated Magic Key Terrace. We reported on the refurbishment of the space a few episodes ago and work was supposed to wrap up soon. Due to supply chain issues with some of the items ordered for the area, only some of the updates have been completed so far. The area has seen updated murals, tile accents, and stained glass. New booths, tables, and more will be swapped in as they arrive. New menu items should also be showing up soon. – https://www.micechat.com/315956-disneyland-update-actions-speak-louder-than-words/ Junior Weeklyteers who are fans of Disney Junior, get excited! A new Disneyland Resort photo album has arrived at the Emporium. This new album is a white book, with a gold, pink, and blue vintage Disneyland castle logo, a cutout Disneyland font “D”, and gold Disneyland Resort label on the spine and back of the album. Inside, the pages have a place to slide in photos, with lines for text next to the images. On the opposite page, there is a gold checkerboard design with the cattle and sleeping beauty designs. The album is $34.99. – https://dlnewstoday.com/2022/03/take-the-magic-home-with-this-new-disneyland-resort-photo-album/ Is the Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage ever coming back? The signage that was up on the walls around the attraction have been removed. They originally stated that the subs would be returning “Winter 2021,” then “Winter,” and now there are no signs on when it will return. With the closing of ToonTown soon, the capacity is needed, so hopefully this attraction will be surfacing again soon! – https://dlnewstoday.com/2022/03/resurfacing-winter-2022-removed-from-finding-nemo-submarine-voyage-construction-walls-reopening-possibly-delayed-at-disneyland-park/ Weeklyteers who have been in the parks recently may have experienced crowd flow issues in some areas of Disneyland. The resort has taken notice and has been sending out surveys to guests where they experienced overcrowding. Disney may use this information to work on more Project Stardust projects in the future to help with crowd flow and overall guest experience. – https://www.micechat.com/315956-disneyland-update-actions-speak-louder-than-words/ Disneyland Paris is celebrating its 30th anniversary with a few new surprises! News: The President of the Disneyland Resort, Ken Potrock, gave an interview to the Orange County Register last week. He discussed changes at the parks, the new normal, and more. He states that the pandemic gave the resort an opportunity to rethink things. If they don't work out, or need adjustments, that is ok, because Disneyland is continuously evolving. Ken also states that the new normal is almost here, with more yet to come. Finally, he said that Disney is working hard to bring characters from movies and tv to the parks much faster than in the past. – https://www.ocregister.com/2022/02/24/qa-disneyland-president-ken-potrock-on-change-momentum-and-the-new-normal/ With the opening of Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge, many thought that Project Stardust, the initiative to widen walkways and improve guest flow throughout the park, was done. Well, it looks like the terraced areas in New Orleans Square may be next on the list of things to change soon. MiceChat reports that the elevated areas that are not wheelchair or stroller accessible may be removed soon to allow for better guest flow and accessibility. This would also help with the extended queue for Pirates that has been a problem since the introduction of Genie+ and Lightning Lane. – https://www.micechat.com/315458-disneyland-news-update-flattening-new-orleans-square/ The trams have finally returned! Guests don't have to walk all the way to and from the front gates any longer, unless they want to. There was a special reopening ceremony for the trams, with Disneyland President Ken Potrock, Disney Ambassador Nataly Guzman, and, of course, Mickey and Minnie! On the day the trams came back into service, there were 13 trams in circulation. – https://www.micechat.com/314063-disneyland-trams-returning/ World of Color will be delighting guests once again soon, so work has been going on around the clock. One of the interesting things that has changed is the new projectors and housing for the show. The new buildings and projectors are much larger than the old versions. This could mean that the show will be brighter and have clearer images on the mist screens. – https://www.micechat.com/315458-disneyland-news-update-flattening-new-orleans-square/ It has been a few years now since the comic and cinematic universe lost one of it's most iconic creators. To honor Stan Lee's 100th birthday coming up in December, a plaque was installed in Avengers Campus. The new plaque is located at the entrance to Avengers Campus. It reads “We dedicate Avengers Campus to the incomparable Stan Lee. “That person who helps others simply because it should or must be done, and because it is the right thing to do, is indeed without a doubt a real superhero.” Thank you, Stan, for inspiring the hero within each of us. You have made us all True Believers.” – https://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/2022/02/stan-lees-legacy-honored-at-avengers-campus-in-disney-california-adventure-park/ Southern California Weeklyteers who are also AAA members, there are some ticket deals that might help you have a few dollars next time you go to the parks. A 3-Day, One Park Per Day Weekday ticket is $179, which is about $60 per day. There is also a 3-Day Weekday Park Hopper ticket for $239, which is about $80 per day. There are also options that include Genie+ for $239 for the 3-Day One Park Weekday option, and $299 for the 3-Day Weekday Park Hopper option. The tickets are good through May 26th, 2022. – https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2022/02/25/select-aaa-members-can-save-big-on-disneyland-tickets-for-a-limited-time/ Warning: the following news might make you hungry! With the Disney California Food and Wine Festival starting in just a couple of days, Disney has released the Foodie Guide to the event. Some past favorites, as well as some new items are on the menu this time. – https://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/2022/02/foodie-guide-to-the-2022-disney-california-adventure-food-and-wine-festival-starting-march-4/ With the Food and Wine Festival starting very soon, of course the booths have begun to appear on the parade route with “coming soon” signage. Uncork California, Berry Patch, Garlic Kissed, Peppers Cali-Ente, Nuts About Cheese, I Heart Artichokes, Cluck-A-Doodle-Moo, Avacado Time, and California Craft Brews have all been rolled out so far. The Festival runs from March 4th through April 26th, so there is plenty of time to enjoy these treats! – https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2022/02/26/photos-food-wine-festival-food-booths-have-already-arrived-in-disneyland/ Discussion Topic: Star Wars Galactic Starcruiser Ordinary Adventures Day 1, Part 1 – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ABdMlQwpL6g Ordinary Adventures Day 1, Part 2 – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5CddF5g38XU Ordinary Adventures Day 2, Part 1 – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SjCY6_RWWsk Ordinary Adventures Day 2, Part 2 – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wT_ME697AY0

Gutters can refer to the curbside drainage channels that lead into storm drains, to the metal or plastic troughs that line some rooftops, or really to any low area designed to move water from one place to another. They are, by design, fairly ordinary examples of human engineering. But look closer, and you’ll find extraordinary objects and ecosystems hidden within. Starting at the curb and working our way up, we spend this episode learning about which creatures take advantage of our waste-water systems; find evidence of extraterrestrial travel on our rooftops; and look at how gutters function…or don’t… for the very species that designed them. Featuring Ken Belt, Carlos Goller, Menno Schilthuizen, Doug Hartman, Matthew Genge, Fushcia Hoover, and Joyce Hwang. The Emperor's Contingency Fully Revealed?

Tatooine Sons: A Star Wars Podcast

Play Episode Listen Later Aug 16, 2019 57:08

Since the reset of Star Wars canon in 2012, the storytellers at Lucasfilm have been inserting an idea of “The Emperor’s Contigency” within books, games, animation, and more. But a recent set of leaks suggests that this idea is bigger than we could even dream. In this week's episode, we’ll tread carefully through the rumors and speculation.Since the release of The Force Awakens, Star Wars canon has been peppered with references to Emperor Palpatine’s “Contingency” plans for what would happen should he ever be defeated by his enemies. With the return of Darth Sidious in The Rise of Skywalker, is this contingency going to be fully revealed? A recent set leaks seems to suggest it’s bigger than anything we could imagine.According to Inverse.com: The Emperor’s evil plan in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is still coming into view, and the latest toy leaks may reveal even more horrifying details. Could this be our first look at the epic space battle coming in Episode IX? A report last week from MakingStarWars.net explained how the new Sith Troopers were actually Palpatine’s secret army, which had been hiding in wait on the edge of the galaxy in a Star Destroyer ship equipped with Death Star-level weaponry.According to MakingStarWars.net: The Sith Stormtroopers have been hidden away in the unknown regions. It is apparently hellish in those areas. The universe is “not entirely stable.” The area is dangerous and full of peril. Since Emperor Palpatine’s death the fleet has been dodging gravity wells and surviving in the wilderness of space in the unknown regions waiting to be found and to finish their mission. The red Sith Stormtroopers which belong to Palpatine are hidden away inside a massive fleet, probably as a final act so upon his resurrection he could dominate the universe once more. However, the Death Star II wasn’t Palpatine’s last project. These Star Destroyers are equipped with “planet destroying weapons like the one on the Death Star itself.”According to SWNN: In the Thrawn novel by Timothy Zahn, the Emperor worked with the Chiss Grand Admiral to explore the Unknown Regions of the galaxy in effort to prepare for the future of his Empire. The contingency plan hinged around Palpatine’s view that an Empire that could not protect its Emperor was not worthy to continue. At the Battle of Jakku, the Emperor’s plan proceeded in an attempt to destroy the planet, taking the Empire and its enemies down simultaneously. The remnants of his Empire would eventually be reborn as the First Order. But this is nothing new to fans who have been paying attention. What is new from this rumor, however, is the idea that the Emperor’s plans far exceed what we have seen on screen. Not only is Snoke just a puppet for the true leader of the Order, but the entirety of the First Order that we’ve seen thus far is a mere front, drawing the Resistance’s attention as the true threat, a “Sith Fleet” led by Palpatine himself, prepares for its assault from the Unknown Regions. How the Emperor survived the Death Star II reactor remains a mystery, but if true, this rumor points to a huge confrontation and some truly epic moments in the movie. One of the recently revealed ships from the Star Wars: Armada game from Fantasy Flight Games also catches our eye as a ship that comes close to matching this description (see below). The Onager-class Star Destroyer is an Imperial ship that also took inspiration from the Death Star superlaser, though at this point in the timeline, Imperial engineers probably couldn’t quite give it the same amount of firepower as the moon-sized battle station. Perhaps the Onager class was a precursor to the planet destroying ships mentioned in the rumor for TROS. According to Wookieepedia: The Onager-class Star Destroyer, also known as the Siege Breaker, was an alleged type of capital ship that utilized a kyber crystal superweapon in the capacity of a portable cannon. It was believed to be developed by the Galactic Empire and used kyber crystals powerful enough that could shatter mountains and anything but the strongest energy shields. If the Resistance is going up against firepower of this magnitude in TROS, they’re going to need some substantial firepower of their own. Thankfully, according to the expanded novelization of The Last Jedi by Jason Fry, the Resistance might have just the thing after all, providing there are any of them left….“As the Resistance U-55 orbital loadlifters were being destroyed by the Supremacy after they evacuated from the Raddus, General Leia Organa tried to imagine a miracle where Inferno Squad returned from their mission to find the Resistance’s allies in the Outer Rim Territories with a task force of Starhawks” (The Last Jedi Expanded Edition).Hot Takes:We’re a few days away from the onslaught of Star Wars revelations coming at D23. Why did it take 20 years to build the first Death Star? And could Kylo Ren be nothing less than a Double Agent for the Resistance? It’s time for Hot Takes!  D23: All the Star Wars-related panels we need to watchSOURCE: Dork Side of the ForceA sneak peek of The Mandalorian is on deck for D23 Expo, but that’s not the only Star Wars-related content that will be at the show. D23 Expo is Disney’s own event. It showcases all of its properties and ventures across the gamut. It doesn’t just focus in movies or TV series, but theme parks, history and more. This year’s event should be a good one for Star Wars fans. There will be plenty of new information about the Disney+, which includes a look at The Mandalorian, the first live-action Star Wars series. The Empire's greatest super-weapon, the Death Star was actually in the works long before Palpatine even officially founded the Empire. The initial plans were recovered from the Separatists in Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones, and the tie-in novel Catalyst revealed that this was a deliberate gambit on Palpatine's part. He was able to argue that the Separatists were presumably working on a Death Star themselves, creating a phantom "arms race" in which the Republic began to secretly construct the first Death Star over the skies of Geonosis. Other canon material including new revelations from Thrawn: Treason reveal that the secrecy behind Project: Stardust along with some less-than-supportive Imperial leadership, a certain scientist’s sabotage, and a number of greedy and treasonous officers contributed to a two decade building process.Star Wars Fans Think This Line From A New Hope Is Proof Kylo Ren Will Turn GoodSOURCE: Esquire.comThe "Actually, Kylo Ren Is Good" theory has been bouncing around since The Force Awakens was released in 2015, but it's really getting some renewed traction this summer. Last week, a pretty interesting Reddit post discussed how it could be likely that Kylo Ren was acting as a double agent to infiltrate the First Order and kill the Emperor when he killed his father, Han Solo. It could simply be wishful thinking for anyone still shipping Kylo and Rey. But, considering these new Star Wars movies are mostly remixes of the original ingredients, it's not wrong to expect Episode IX to retread the old Skywalker redemption narrative with Kylo Ren. As one Reddit fan writes: I watched TFA last night and an exchange between Han and Leia reminded me of something. Han says something close to “it's too late for him, he has too much of his grandfather in him.” This is close to the conversation between Owen and Beru when they say “you can’t keep him here forever, he has too much of his father in him.” Owen responds with “I know, that’s what I’m afraid of.”...So obviously Luke never fully gave into the dark side and managed to redeem his father. Even after his struggle in the Last Jedi, it is clear that the Skywalker bloodline course corrects back to the light no matter how strong the pull of the dark is. Since the whole saga is about balance and finding peace in conflict, I think it’s fitting that this would apply to Ben as well. We’ve heard over and over about how IX will end all three trilogies, so why wouldn’t this theme be carried forward as well?Check out our website: https://www.tatooinesons.com/Subscribe to our YouTube Channel: https://www.youtube.com/tatooine-sonsCheck out our Patreon page: https://www.patreon.com/tatooinesonsFollow us on Twitter: https://twitter.com/TatooineSonsLike us on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/TatooineSonsCheck out our Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/tatooinesons

In what has turned into an annual part of Home One Radio’s calendar—yet, maybe not anymore with the conclusion of the trilogy—we have a two-part episode on a Thrawn book! We discuss the third and final book in Timothy Zahn’s new Thrawn trilogy. Thrawn: Treason. Spanning only a short period of time, Thrawn is, once again, plunged into a deeply-tangled web of mystery surrounding Project Stardust. Fighting to preserve his own TIE Defender project, Thrawn has only a week to try and solve a mystery, save his project, and possibly save the whole galaxy from a bigger threat. In the first part of our review, we talk about the setup of the book, some of the early character dynamics, and some of the bigger questions brought up in the first half. We save our full judgments and some bigger conversations for Part 2, so make sure to listen to episode #135 for those thoughts, as well. Merry Chissmas!

The Sherlock Holmes of Star Wars is BACK with the release of Thrawn: Treason next week. We’ll dig into the excerpts that have been released, and discuss our thoughts on this enigmatic character.Plus, we’ll catch up on some Hot Takes and reviews and maybe see if we can talk mom into baking us a pie.Grand Admiral Thrawn is back! This time, he’s forced to solve a problem that Director Krennic is having with Project Stardust. But his old protege, Eli Vanto, brings news of a crisis facing the Chiss Ascendancy. Will Thrawn betray the Empire in response? Join us for our preview of Thrawn: Treason! From StarWars.com: Grand Admiral Thrawn faces the ultimate test of his loyalty to the Empire in this epic Star Wars novel from bestselling author Timothy Zahn. “If I were to serve the Empire, you would command my allegiance.” Such was the promise Grand Admiral Thrawn made to Emperor #Palpatine at their first meeting. Since then, Thrawn has been one of the Empire’s most effective instruments, pursuing its enemies to the very edges of the known galaxy. But as keen a weapon as Thrawn has become, the Emperor dreams of something far more destructive. Now, as Thrawn’s TIE Defender program is halted in favor of Director Krennic’s secret Death Star project, he realizes that the balance of power in the Empire is measured by more than just military acumen or tactical efficiency. Even the greatest intellect can hardly compete with the power to annihilate entire planets. As Thrawn works to secure his place in the Imperial hierarchy, his former protégé Eli Vanto returns with a dire warning about Thrawn’s homeworld. Thrawn’s mastery of strategy must guide him through an impossible choice: duty to the Chiss Ascendancy, or fealty to the Empire he has sworn to serve. Even if the right choice means committing treason. https://www.starwars.com/news/get-a-first-look-at-timothy-zahns-thrawn-treason-exclusivehttps://www.starwars.com/news/thrawn-treason-exclusive-excerpthttps://io9.gizmodo.com/a-familiar-star-wars-face-returns-in-this-exclusive-thr-1836377684Purchase YOUR copy of #Thrawn: Treason through TatooineSons.com, and help support family friendly #StarWars content! https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1984820982/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=1984820982&linkCode=as2&tag=tatooinesons-20&linkId=5d5e28657aba34bde40143d759774a2b
