How's your capacity feeling these days? Getting a lot done? Or, like me, have you been hitting that pandemic wall hard? Over the last few weeks, I've been exploring the idea of maintenance mode in business, and today I want to shift from exploring the IDEA of maintenance mode into more tactical applications. If YOU wanted to move your business into maintenance mode, or you wanted to focus on scaling, how would you DO that? How would you prepare for maintenance mode? In all of my conversations with other business owners who have made this shift, there has consistently been a first step that they had to address.Capacity.Either the business's capacity or their own capacity as the owner. Each business owner ran up against a wall (sometimes repeatedly) and came to the realization that the way they HAD been working wasn't the way they wanted to CONTINUE working. They had to make changes to increase their capacity. Sometimes, that meant changing a business model to a more sustainable one. Sometimes it meant creating a capacity limit to protect their energy or just stepping back from the work for months at a time. Sometimes it just meant examining the work they did and figuring out how to make it more efficient. That's the path that today’s guest, Anna Wolf, took. Anna is the CEO and owner of SuperScript Marketing, a content marketing agency for financial brands. She runs a team of marketers, scattered throughout the world, who create content for financial companies and who provide customized services for each client. When Anna ran up against her capacity ceiling, she decided that she loved the work she was doing and didn't really want to change the way that she was working. But that something still had to change. So Anna turned to systems. Listen to the full episode to hear: How Anna thinks about capacity and figuring out what the real capacity is in her businesses About some of the projects that Anna built to expand her business’s capacity without fundamentally changing what she was already doing to deliver quality services What impact these systems and processes have had on her business or on her own capacity as the owner And how Anna has learned that there needs to be a balance between seeking answers externally and follow your gut, even if that means risking making mistakes Learn more about Anna Wolf: SuperScript Financial Marketing Agency  LinkedIn @annawolf Learn more about Susan: Scalespark Dollars + Decisions Roundtable Twitter @ScaleSpark LinkedIn @thesusanboles

The messages kids receive from parents in the home environment varies as well. 2) Access to low cost contraception, specifically long acting reversible contraception, like IUD or implant - has  better efficacy and lower risk for error.Anna shares her perspective about sex education in school and how they taught the information. Tara shares some tips for parents about talking to their kids about sex, dispelling the notion that if they talk they about sex, kids will be more likely to be sexually active. Welcome to episode 199 of F-Stop Collaborate and Listen! This week on the podcast, I had a wonderful conversation with a landscape photographer living in Vancouver, British Columbia, Anna Morgan. Anna grew up in the United Kingdom but later relocated to Vancouver, BC to practice veterinary medicine. She recently sold her veterinary practice to pursue a Master's Degree and start a family. Through her Master's Degree, she decided to write her thesis on quite a fascinating topic: The Role of Photography and the Photographer in Conservation. The frameworks by which Anna used to frame her thesis have far-reaching application to understanding photographers, photography, and how we can think about each from varied perspectives. Anna was gracious enough to send me a copy of her thesis, which I read prior to our conversation. Anna and I discuss some interesting topics this week, including: The role of photography and the photographer in conservation, Content-driven themes including truth, experience, and beauty, and how these themes interplay with situated knowledge including emotions, interests, meanings, attitudes, beliefs, and values, How misrepresentation of truth in photography could hinder conservation efforts (and other impacts of misrepresentation), The importance of representation of women in photography and art and the roles women can play in addressing the climate crisis and other environmental issues, How Anna's thesis has helped me to understand and conceptualize how and why various photographers present their artwork the way they do in regards to digital manipulation, And lots more! Over on Patreon this week, Anna and I discuss the practice of Slow and Contemplative Photography and how it connects curiosity, creativity, and care for the environment. Here are the photographers that Anna recommended on the podcast: 1. Jo Stephen. 2. Lizzie Shepherd. 3. Melanie Collie. 4. Switchback Shawty / Cherisa Hawkins. Other items mentioned on the show: 1. The Project I'm excited about. I love hearing from the podcast listeners! What's the point?"- Why Anna no longer feels guilty about having a 3 course meal :-) and now eats the chocolate rather than saying "oh I will just have some cucumber..then some pepper..then some carrot", and then eats chocolate anyway whilst feeling guilty..www.FruciFit.com

We continue our discussion with artists participating in Indivisible 2020 today with Anna Stump, Erin Yoshi, Ted Meyer, and Kalynn Campbell. In this jam-packed show, the guests address various pertinent social and political issues. We begin by hearing what indivisibility means to everyone, where Anna and Ted, who live in a rural, red part of the country share why they have chosen not to publicly express their political views. Both Erin and Kalynn feel that while indivisibility is possible and has been achieved at times, the current moment is deeply divided. We then talk about the rise of political discourse in popular culture and how the art reflective of this, such as Black Lives Matter murals and poster art, inspires our guests. We could not have a discussion about indivisibility without touching on the election, and we hear everyone’s take on Joe Biden as the candidate, why this election is more about voting against Trump than anything else, and how we might see the positives in the voter suppression tactics. Increasingly, people – particularly Gen Z, as Anna highlights – are becoming aware of the role they play in shaping society and are taking actionable steps to shift the narrative. We also touch on climate change, where the guests share their respective stark realizations they have had about this issue. As the show wraps up, we get a glimpse into the rationale behind the work everyone has submitted to Indivisible 2020. This insightful, powerful conversation left us with a sense of hope that artists have a big role to play in uniting our divided country. Tune in today to hear more!   Key Points From This Episode: What indivisible means to Anna and the difficulty she has living in a very red state. Why Anna and Ted feel unsafe to express their liberal political views where they live. The meaning of indivisibility to Erin and the work she feels needs to be done in this area. Moving away from the ‘oppression Olympics’ and seeing the humanity in everyone. Kalynn’s understanding of indivisibility and how he thinks we can work towards it. The inspiration Kalynn has drawn from the murals that have come from Black Lives Matter. Ted’s understanding of the ‘Other’ and its origins as a social construct. Why Erin is most inspired by poster art and murals over the recent years. Finding hope in troubled times – How Anna and Kalynn are digging deep in the current moment. How people who would have preferred Bernie Sanders or Elizabeth Warren as the presidential candidate are choosing to vote. Erin’s empathy for people who feel frustrated with the Democratic Party. Hear Erin’s take on the Democratic Party’s strategy for choosing a center-right candidate like Biden. All the gerrymandering and voter suppression tactics are a sign that things are changing. Why Erin feels that hopelessness is a good sign and how it in turn makes her feel hopeful. Ted’s feeling at the Republican Party’s hypocrisy undoing the separation of church and state. The intersectionality of the social issues we face today. Erin’s experience of the orange sky in San Francisco during the wildfires. Anna, Ted, Kalynn, and Sourdough’s personal experience of climate change.  The hypocrisy of the ruling party given the fact that the military is preparing for climate change. Lessons in consuming less that we can take from the pandemic. Why Ted doesn’t have much faith in enduring long-term positive change post-pandemic. The urgency of climate change and why we all need to make changes now. Hear more about Ted, Erin, Anna, and Kalynn’s work they submitted to Indivisible 2020. Anna Gracia Herbst has always wanted to find in her professional life a way to help others. So when she first hears about Khalil Radi’s new project in 2018, she is immediately convinced. In Nicaragua, her friend has launched an action to encourage people collect and bring back the polluting plastic bottles in exchange for a hot meal. The project tackles two major problems at the same time: pollution and social misery. And on earth, 80% of plastic pollution is coming from those countries that have extreme poverty. In Zurich, together with a small group of other people, they create the association Buy Food With Plastic, whose mission is clear: 'Stop Hunger and recycle at the same time'. In this interview, Anna explains the objectives of Buy Food with Plastic, their recycling or upcycling plans, and we also compare with similar projects internationally. Anna details the financing solutions for this project, which for the past few months has been professionalizing and expanding beyond Nicaragua, in Ghana and in India. The young lady, who left her job in a start-up to become a full-time employee of her association, also tells me about volunteering, commitment, entrepreneurship, and shares with me her unfailing confidence in the future. So for all of you who would like to learn more about plastic pollution, understand how it can become a weapon against poverty, and be inspired by Anna’s great commitment, I invite you to plug in your headphones and dive into the new episode of Brillantes! I’m excited to have on the show today Anna Eskamani, who is my state representative in the Orlando, Florida, area where I live. Anna is young, outspoken, and tireless in the work she does for her constituents and for Floridians in general. I invited her on to have a conversation about what it’s like to run for office as a woman, how she found her voice, how she deals with negative and vocal opponents, and the importance of supporting progressive women running for local offices. I have a background in politics myself, having served as chairperson of my county’s Democratic Party in 2005-2006. I also founded a technology company called DemsLink that was one of the first in the nation to provide a complete set of online tools for Democratic candidates and organizations. And since 2005, I’ve been providing political analysis on TV news.  I’ll be back on TV for another Election Night this November 3, this time via Zoom instead of in the news studio.  I recorded the intro to this episode a day after Ruth Bader Ginsburg died at 87 years old, now leaving a vacant Supreme Court seat less than 2 months before the election that Senate Republicans, in all of their hypocritical glory, are going to try to ram through and fill.  Just as RBG worked her entire career to expand equality and rights to more people, we have to take up her mantle, which I address in the intro. In our conversation, Anna and I talk about: What it's been like to run for office as a woman How Anna found her voice How Anna deals with negative and vocal opponents Lessons she’s learned for other women interested in running The importance of supporting progressive women running for local offices What kind of support we can give   This episode is part of our podcast series called Use Your Voice.   About My Guest: Born and raised in Orlando, Representative Anna V. Eskamani is the daughter of working-class immigrants who has a proven track record in building consensus while fighting unapologetically for progressive values. Anna previously served as the Senior Director of Public Affairs and Communications for Planned Parenthood of Southwest and Central Florida and is a PhD student studying Public Affairs at the University of Central Florida. On November 6, 2018 Anna was elected to serve the great people of House District 47 with a vote margin of 57% to 43%, flipping a legislative seat, and becoming the first Iranian-American elected to any public office in Florida. During her first two legislative sessions, Anna fought hard to increase funding for arts and culture, pushed back against anti-LGBTQ legislation, voted to preserve the environment 100% of the time, and to increase access to healthcare. Tough, authentic and unafraid, Anna has been recognized across the state and nation for her tireless work during the COVID-19 outbreak. She continues to call on the state demanding more testing, immediate benefits for the hundreds of thousands struggling to receive unemployment, and for equitable small business relief. Heading into her November re-election bid, she continues to build collective power and advocate in support of Florida’s hardworking families. In the second coach the coach podcast episode of season one, I had the pleasure of speaking with financial coach, Anna Yen. Anna runs FamilyFI, a personal finance community dedicated to empowering and inspiring families to master a positive money mindset with confidence.  Her sweet spot is showing her clients how to address their finances with intention, address their fears of not having enough, and set them up on a clear, financially growth oriented path. As you will discover, Anna is definitely an expert in her space. She went to college at sixteen and, as an intern for JP Morgan by nineteen, Anna accrued significant investment banking experience. She’s worked in real estate investing and even cryptocurrency. Yet, Anna’s childhood and early career experiences left her with a story that she is not a confident and competent communicator – particularly during her sales conversations. Whether you are a coach, consultant, business, HR or talent development leader, pay particular attention to how I coach the coach. Observe how I step into the role of a hypothetical client for Anna. And, through role play, how I coach her to speak persuasively to the conversation in my head and in my heart Also, keep your ears open for Anna’s aha moment about how to sell (and where her true credibility comes from) – after we process the role play experience. Hint: It’s not from her great advice (although there is no doubt she’s pretty brilliant and has a lot of wisdom to share) and rather from something much deeper. Finally, I also want you to observe how I set Anna up to consider what happens when she mucks up her communication – how not to hold onto the incident and rather to learn from it so that can she can recalibrate and get back on her path. Enjoy this coach the coach episode! In this episode About Anna Yen [ 4:30 ] Anna shares her story [ 7:55 ] Why Anna is reluctant to be assertive in her work [ 13:10 ] About speaking directly as a thought leader  [ 21:15 ] Why your worth is not your wisdom alone [ 24:30 ] How do you let clients know that you understand? [ 27:00 ] How we can practice self-compassion [ 28:45 ] About using play during a client call [ 33:45 ] How Anna found value during our coach the coach call [ 38:00 ] What Anna wants others to know about our coach the coach call [ 45:25 ] Moxielicous quotes “When we bring it back to speaking about people’s desires, that’s where our credibility comes from.” “Your worth is not your wisdom alone.” “I play to keep my hands busy.” “Having something tactical to do when I’m on a call allows me to keep the gaze in my camera with who I’m speaking with.” Resources mentioned in this episode Want to learn more about Anna Yen and FinancialFI? She Anna is an award winning broadcaster who's passionate about communication and how it can be used to fast track success in your business and in your life. She has created the Academy by Anna because she recognized there is a need for easy to access training programs, around public speaking, media training and personal branding. She says as the way we live and work changes, these skills sets become vital at every stage of your career and every position you hold. She helps her clients, kickstart their speaking careers, give compelling media interviews and create unique personal brands that get you noticed. Practice heartfulness. Do whatever it takes to declutter your brain. Reconnect with nature. Take that first step towards happiness.   Anna said: "We are spiritual mammals living in a universe that is all completely connected like a giant cobweb, and I think that people have become detached from that thought." "We can help people, we can encourage people, but in their mind, they have to decide for themselves that they have to take the first step."   Thanks for listening!   If you're interested in finding out what your health IQ is, take the Health IQ test to find out, and get a free 39-page report built around our six signals, which are sleep, mental health, energy, body composition, digestion, and fitness.   If you've enjoyed what you've heard on this episode and it's added value to you, share the episode with someone you think could benefit from it. There are painfully few successful female film critics and this is still an incredibly male-dominated area. Meryl Streep was asked about this, and commented that this discrepancy is "not disheartening, it’s infuriating.”  My guest today however, has been breaking the mould on film criticism for more than 20 years. She is Anna Smith, one of the most successful film critics of her generation, and the current president of the Critics' Circle. Anna writes for the Guardian, Time Out, Empire and a host of other publications, and appears frequently on Sky News and the BBC amongst others to review films, discuss breaking film news and comment on awards contenders. She is a professional, unflappable and engaging host, and can often be found moderating Q&As, press conferences and on-stage conversations with some of the world’s biggest stars. What a job! She is also in the midst of judging Under Her Eye, a competition run by Stylist magazine to encourage and recruit more female film critics. There’s no bad language in this podcast but just to warn you, there is some discussion of sex scenes in films, particularly lesbian sex.  Anna's website is www.annasmithjourno.com, she's on Twitter and Instagram @annasmithjourno - feel free to contact her on her work, she loves feedback from fellow film lovers! In this interview we covered: - When Anna realised that film criticism was for her and how she got into it - What an average week as a critic looks like and how she reviews films that just aren't great... - How Anna prioritises films by female film-makers and those focusing on LGBTQ storylines  - How the male gaze of a director affects the depiction of sex and sexuality on screen, and her recent writing on the portrayal of lesbian sex scenes - Gender imbalance in film criticism and her experiences as a female critic - Her role as President of the Critics' Circle and their work in the arts - The future of film criticism and journalism in general  - 'Under Her Eye' - the new competition from Stylist magazine and Anna's role as a judge finding new female film critics - Routes into film criticism and how you could be the new Anna!  - New films to look out for this Autumn.    “When we set up new destinations, we really look at what is undiscovered.” – Anna Mascaro Today's guest on the Art of Adventure podcast is the travel designer genius, Anna Mascaro. Anna founded Terracotta Travel and coordinates customized and luxurious destination travels, particularly in Europe. I've had the privilege of working with Anna over the last year to get Terracotta off the ground.  The back story to this episode is really cool. Anna was a listener to the Art of Adventure and reached out to me to be her coach as she was leaving her stifling office job in London, moving to the island paradise of Palma de Mallorca, and founding the travel company that became Terracotta. Now to complete the circle, she is a guest on the show to talk about how she runs her business. I even learned some things from our interview about how much knowledge she has built up about specific travel locations over the years In this episode, Anna shares her hands-on approach with the travel itineraries that she makes for her clients, and how she herself goes into those areas for her to really experience what a place and its community has to offer. She also shares how to run a unique business like hers. What you'll learn in this episode: How Terracotta Travel started How she coordinates with locals What it is like to run a business which involves personalization and a lot of travelling How she values interaction with the locals in a community How she creates perfect travel designs made specifically for her clients How Anna herself is an "Encyclopedia of Possibilities" Quotes: “We're really giving people a unique look in the culture of the islands.” – Anna Mascaro “The guides really are they key as far as us being able to make connections on the ground with local people.” – Anna Mascaro “We always take the interests of our client in mind.” – Anna Mascaro “As a luxury travel designer, you come to appreciate everyone's work more” – Anna Mascaro “Once you travel with Terracotta, you will never go back.” – Anna Mascaro Continue the Adventure: Terra Cotta Travel Facebook Instagram   You might also like these episodes: Antesa Jensen | Adventure Awake: Self-Awareness Through Travel Chase Boehringer | Experience The Most Epic Adventures With The Bucketlist Lifestyle How to Run an Adventure + Business Retreat AOA 067 | Matt Prior | Adventure Academy AOA 126 | Rock Thomas | Abundance and Adventure Kit and Rosie Volcano (Part 2) | How to Make Business Feel Like Magic

Over Coffee® | Stories and Resources from the Intersection of Art and Science | Exploring How to Make STEAM Work For You

NextFab is an incredible makers' resource.  But they're not a makerspace. Instead, they are a network of makerspaces, in the Delaware Valley.  Specifically, their locations are in Philadelphia, North Philadelphia and--as of 2017--Wilmington, Delaware. During Podcast Movement 2018, in Philadelphia, we had the privilege of recording, live-on-tape from the Talkshoe booth, with two special guests. Anna Solomon is NextFab's Assistant Sales Manager.  She is also the first woman to graduate the University of Delaware's Entrepreneurship/Entrepreneurial Studies program.  Her background, as a maker, includes both engineering and economics, and she's been with NextFab since 2016, according to her LinkedIn page. Jezabel Careaga is a chef, designer, and the proprietor, both of Jezabel's Cafe and of sister business Jezabel's Studio in Philadelphia.   A talented maker, she is a NextFab member who designed and built many of her cafe's furnishings at the makerspaces!  As a chef, meanwhile, she fuses traditional Argentine flavor with new ingredients and techniques.  (And she caters events and offers cooking classes, as well!) During Day Three of Podcast Movement, Anna and Jezabel talked about NextFab, their individual maker experiences and what's next for the soon-to-be-expanded maker facilities. On this edition of Over Coffee®, you'll hear: How Anna and Jezabel first became interested in making and entrepreneurship; What NextFab is currently doing; How Jezabel's needs for her small business led her to become a NextFab member/maker; What makers can expect to see, when they enter the space; The story of NextFab; How Jezabel's small business, Jezabel's Cafe, came into being; What an "average day" is like for each of them, as maker/entrepreneurs; What a maker might experience, when coming into one of the maker spaces with a concept but no idea how to work through the process; How an exciting pilot program is making a difference to the maker community in Wilmington; The ways in which the community may be changing, as a result of the makers and small businesses; The crucial factors involved in empowering more women to become makers and engineers.

Anna Simpson’s philosophy is that you don’t make money in your comfort zone. Once she has achieved a goal, Anna finds a way to push her limits and look forward to the next. And when things start to get difficult, that’s when Ana knows she needs to keep digging: She’s getting closer to the gold. Anna is a full-time accredited multifamily investor and deal sponsor with experience in property valuation, acquisition, rehabilitation, leasing and asset management. She got her start investing in single family buy and holds before making the decision to transition to multifamily as a passive investor. Anna personally invested in 1,300 multifamily units as an equity partner and key principal before she was ready for the next challenge of becoming a managing partner. Today, Anna has completed two multifamily deals: a 70-unit syndication and a 76-unit 1031 exchange. Today, Anna sits down with me to share her decision to work ON the business rather than IN it by making the shift to multifamily. She explains how she leveraged her role as a passive investor to learn the fundamentals of syndication and the key challenge she faced in landing her first deal as managing partner. Anna offers insight around the value of persistence and breaking big goals down into smaller chunks. Listen in for Anna’s advice on pushing beyond your perceived limits and learn why she believes that while knowledge is important, true power lies in consistent ACTION. Author Anna Goldfarb is one of my favorite creative people, and I'm so happy to have her as a guest on GOAL MAGIC! I first learned about Anna back when she was the editor behind the wildly popular (but now retired) dating blog Shmitten Kitten. Since then, we’ve built up a friendship based upon our shared love of writing goofy email newsletters. Just to let you know, Anna writes my favorite newsletter in the whole world and you should totally go subscribe to it at annagoldfarb.com. Now happily married with Shmitten Kitten in her rearview mirror, Anna makes a living writing fearlessly about relationships, culture and food for publications like The New York Times, Vice and Thrillist. Anna writes with a bold and exuberant wit and she’s not afraid to offend people who might disagree with her. With titles like “What I wish I'd Known Before Moving in Together” “The Top 10 Worst Things I’ve Eaten at Trader Joe’s” and “What to Say When People Ask Why You’re Not Having Children” you can see why Anna’s articles get tons of impassioned comments from readers.  Anna is also the author of the humor memoir, Clearly, I Didn’t Think This Through: The Story of One Tall Girl’s Impulsive, Ill-Conceived, and Borderline Irresponsible Life Decisions. It’s a hilarious and heart-warming book.  We discuss these topics (and many more) in the episode:  Being intentional with your network How a creative network is different from other social networks How Anna knew her husband was "the one" How to survive as an adult living in your parents' basement The best locale for forcing yourself to write How to deal with one-star reviews online How we sometimes confuse our friends with our fans on social media The pros and cons of freelance writing The value of finding an "accountability buddy" Remember: success is not a straight line! While I couldn't find the same sketchbooks or plastic covers in the United States (I believe they are only available in the UK and Australia), you can make a similar scrapbook. I was so excited to use this inexpensive type of scrapbook for my own personal use, that I created my own. Simply take 8-10 12" x 18" sheets of white sulphite paper and fold in half. Make the crease strong by running a ruler along the fold line. Using a long arm stapler, staple the pieces of paper together at the crease. Use Gesso to paint the front and back cover. this make the cover strong and feels like a real sketchbook. I'm using my hand-made sketchbook for Anna's 15 Flowers Acrylic painting class. There is also a lot of interesting research on A1 beta-casein protein vs. A2 (A2 is found in certain types of cow's milk, goat's milk, and others). Anna, who is Celiac and has been gluten free since 2002, discusses how she was able to begin following a healthy diet while also eating delicious foods to help heal her body and stay strong. Discover why the phrase, "If you have your health, then you have everything," is true on so many levels. The weight loss will come, but if that's your only focus, then the real health benefits will be harder to find. Eat Happy | Eat Happy Too by Anna Vocino Eat Happy: Gluten Free, Grain Free, Low Carb Recipes Made from Real Foods For A Joyful Life 154 delicious grain-free, gluten-free recipes that are also free of any processed sugars. There are meats, fish, sides, soups, starters, casseroles, slow cooker recipes, breakfast dishes, and even desserts to satisfy any sweets craving you might have, all with virtually no sugar. If you are low carb, paleo, are wanting to keep autoimmune issues at bay, or just want to lose extra weight, Eat Happy gives you comfort food where you won’t miss the sugars or grains so your body and brain can feel happy from eating real foods. In 2012, after almost ten years of being gluten free due to celiac, Anna Vocino found she was gaining weight faster than a tick on a labradoodle. Turns out the culprit wasn’t overeating or too much fat in the diet, but the pesky sugars and grains in all those gluten free comfort foods. When Anna started podcasting with Fitness Confidential author Vinnie Tortorich, she adapted her entire way of eating to do what Tortorich coined: NSNG—No Sugars No Grains. Sure enough, the weight dropped off, the inflammation due to celiac finally calmed down, and for the first time in her life, she learned what it meant to be truly happy about food. All of Anna’s recipes are delicious, easy to make, and so satisfying, you won’t even know you’re eating healthy. Craving rich, decadent chocolate pots with fresh cream that are delicious but not fattening? Wanna make a grain-free pizza crust that actually helps you lose weight? Dying for pancakes, but you’ve committed to avoiding carbs? How about hearty shepherd’s pie, tater tots, sizzling ginger rice, all made with cauliflower instead of high carb rice and potatoes? Eat Happy offers low carb comfort foods to please the entire family. Want more amazing, healthy recipes? Anna will be releasing her next cookbook, Eat Happy, Too: More Gluten Free, Grain Free, Low Carb Recipes Made from Real Foods for a Joyful Life on April 1, 2018. Common signs of Celiac Disease. Can you tell when you eat gluten or is testing the only way to really know? About Anna's awesome cookbook, Eat Happy: Gluten Free, Grain Free, Low Carb Recipes Made from Real Foods For A Joyful Life How Vinnie Tortorich inspired her to live a No Sugars, No Grains lifestyle. How healthy fats don't only help keep you full, but your mind clear and sharp as well. Why cleaning out your kitchen can be such a great power move to approaching nutrition. The challenge of getting your family on board to eat healthier with you at home. The biggest benefit when she shifted her diet in 2002. Why counting calories is so pervasive because your ancestors never counted them. They just ate what they wanted. Anna's experience with being anorexic from ages 15-17 and craving being in control around food. Intermittent fasting and how it might trigger certain emotions, thoughts, and the need to be controlling with food. Working with a functional medicine doctor for check-ups and treatments for hyperthyroidism and the different tests she has taken. How other people in marriages or relationships can work together to shift and accept the other person's decision to follow a No Sugars, No Grains diet. How you can become more vocal about the changes you want to see in the food industry. Her daughter being diagnosed with Hashimoto's Disease and how Anna is helping her cope with it while also beginning college. Power Quotes From The Show "The idea of 'letting go of weight' has always been a vanity trigger for me. The real benefits are the health benefits and being happier by stabilizing my brain. Losing weight is everything to people, but it's really not. Losing the weight is the second benefit that comes after enjoying life more." - Anna Vocino "When I get emotionally involved, I just want to munch on something like almonds to help me deal with my feelings. That helps me calm down, but then I still have to isolate and deal with the emotional matter on its own." - Anna Vocino "Eat Happy is a recipe book that is intended to include really yummy food that is easy to make at home. Whether you are gluten free, low-carb, or grain free, it's for everyone." - Anna Vocino "Take things easy and be nicer to yourself if you go ahead and have a treat like gluten-free cookies. We have a tendency to want to beat ourselves up about our choices, but we need to calm down. If you beat yourself up too often, you're just going to end up binge eating because you're so emotionally involved about your food choices. " - Anna Vocino "Don't forget to increase your healthy fat intake if you decide to follow the No Sugars, No Grains lifestyle. People don't eat enough fat with NSNG because they're afraid they'll gain weight and then they complain about being hungry. Don't be afraid of fat; you have to get full by eating fats." - Anna Vocino Links From Today's Show: Anna Vocino Facebook Anna Vocino’s Eat Happy Facebook Group! I was at a dinner and I met one of the top performers in our company, and I was amazed by her story. How did she turn things around for herself and go from 2 deals a year, to being top in her office? On this episode, Anna shares her journey to success after 14 years in the business.   Takeaways You have to have intention behind what you’re doing. If things aren’t going well for you, don’t blame anyone else, take responsibility. Trust in the 90-day cycle, if you’re doing all the work you need to do, you will succeed. Work with the intention to help people, not to get a commission check.   We also spoke about; How Anna joined Intero and overcame her limiting beliefs The setbacks Anna had The power of having an open mind It’s possible to turn your whole life around no matter where you’re coming from. It’s important to do your work and get rid of the limiting thoughts that control you. Start tracking your numbers and work to your strengths. If you do these things, you’ll get better every day and see a huge transformation in your life.

Neil Curran, improv teacher and performer, and Anna Wilson, improv performer, join me to discuss how improvisation skills could help you nail your next pitch and unleash the potential of your team. And the good news is, you were already doing it as a kid!  We talk about banning the “but” word, team making vs team breaking and embracing your mistakes.   Key takeaways [1:53] Improv is usually associated with comedy but really it is something we all are born doing but tend to lose as adults. It is how we react and how we listen. Its about spontaneity, how we respond in the moment. [3:27] Improv skills are life skills. As children we just want to play, kids don’t have the constraints we put on ourselves as adults. Fear of punishment shuts down playfulness and creativity. [5:39] 'Mistakes are just a new way of doing things' - Jill BernardClick To Tweet [7:55] How Anna came to improv. Discovered it's not about being funny and witty but about being supportive of your partner on stage. [11:34] Team building days usually mean being sent to a competitive environment or activity - not necessarily the right approach to build a strong collaborative team. An effective team is people working together. [17:37] As a techie, Anna came from a “no but” approach to working on ideas but through improv has changed to a "yes and" approach. You build on ideas rather than tearing them down. [22:41] 'The edge of your comfort zone is where the magic happens when it comes to learning'Click To Tweet [28:04] Within the corporate environment, improv is a tool to help you achieve what you want. Used in sales training, for communication skills, negotiation and conflict resolution. [37:53] Mindfulness through improv as an alternative to sitting in a quiet room, breathing in and out. [43:29] Improv teaches you to care less about what you think other people think of you [44:14] Neil on confidence when speaking in public: Perception is reality, fake it til you make it and over time you will turn it into real confidence [47:50] Neil and Anna's top 5 tips on public speaking and presentations: Your audience is already on your side. You’re already the expert Find what you're passionate about in your topic. That is what will sell it to your audience and make it engaging Understand what the audience needs If you're having fun, your audience will have fun [56:00] Neil's biggest tip: Do something that scares you every day!Click To Tweet [57:19] Anna's biggest tip: If you want to do it, you have to do it!Click To Tweet   Links to things mentioned lowerthetone.com @improvneil Speechless Live @yesitsanna Zenprov

You can come for a really sick lineup and know that you’re getting some feminism mixed in there. Being a woman in the music scene is very different from being a man in the music scene. Playing classical violin is very different that playing rock violin. And Anna Bulbrook knows a lot about these differences. Anna has been the violinist for Airborne Toxic Event and Edward Sharpe and Magnetic Zeros. She grew up playing the violin classically, but everything changed after college when she realized that she loved to play her instrument in a less traditional venue. Years later, after touring with some great bands, she found a new passion: creating space for women in the world of rock and music festivals. Her new venture GirlSchool, is just that: a music festival by, for, and in support of women. Listen into this awesome episode as she talks about the life of a career musician, what it’s like being the only female in the band, and the moment that lit the spark for her latest project. In the process of letting that classical violinist go, I was free to be open to what it would look like for violin to be valuable in other ways. Anna's mission to find stracciatella (more info below) How cheese shops are call caseificio and why The cheese grater also has name based on a similar base The local dialect is influencedd by the different cultures that have all been in the area and thus is also a history of the area The two biggest influences to the local Terlizzi dialect are French and Arabic How areas near Lecce have a more Greek influenced dialect How the local dialects were all spoken languages, no written languages What Paul and Anna did all day, shopping and enjoying Aperol Spritz (recipe here) How it is mandatory to have a gluten-free section in Italian supermarkets Our lunch, which included steamed mussels, and Paul's "recipe" for the mussels Our lunch also included raw tuna and salmon sashimi The Facebook Live video we shot during lunch The difference between an aperitif and digestif How Italians want to drink with a purpose, not just drink to get drunk Anna's new cookbook Eat Happy: Gluten Free, Grain Free, Low Carb Recipes For A Joyful Life How the cookbook came about How long it took Anna to make the cookboo The struggles Anna went through How Anna tested and retested every recipe How magazine recipes aren't really tested a lot Taking pictures of recipes for a cookbook How Italians hate cilantro How recipes evolve and are guidelines, not rule books; you can adjust them to your own tastes How even different kinds of salts can affect a recipe and should be adjusted to your taste Our red wine infused sea salt What real balsamic vinegar really is How the other "balsamic" can be used to make salad dressing, but not the real stuff A quick explanation on how they make balsamic vinegar Why Italians hate Bloody Mary Our favorite Bloody Mary Mix, Bob's No Problem Anna's favorite recipes - Anything with zucchini noodles made with Paderno spiralizer - Butternut squash cauliflower rice - Low-carb pizza crust - Pistachio crusted salmon - Sausage zucchini bake - Bacon broccoli Cooking seasonally Our Red Onion Jam Paul and Anna's shopping, where they also bought: - Napoli salumi with peppercorns - Some spicy Calabrese salumi - Mortadella, how big and delicious it is in Italy How Paul hates bologna or baloney     More on Stracciatella Otherwise known as heaven on Earth at Villa Cappelli, it's a fresh cheese produced in Puglia using a stretching and shredding method. Thus the name which means "little shreds." The way it was explained to me at one point is that it's the same as mozzarella before it becomes mozzarella. Meaning, the curds aren't worked quite as much. After the shreds are made, they are mixed with cream. It's amaze balls. A creamy, smooth, delicious bite of heaven. This is also the same cheese you find in the center of burrata, which is essentially stracciatella wrapped in mozzarella. So when you cut into the big ball of mozzarella, the stracciatella and cream ooze out. Also to die for, but for me, why not just enjoy the star of the dish on its own!
