Isolation, loneliness, depression - these words have become all too common lately. As we emerge from a global pandemic that upended life as we knew it, many of us are struggling to reconnect and find a sense of community. Personally, I too have felt the strain on relationships and a yearning for more meaningful social bonds.  That's why I'm so excited for my latest podcast episode where I interview Florence Ann Romano, an expert on building social connections. She wrote the book "Build Your Village: A Guide to Finding Joy and Community in Every Stage of Life" – and she's the perfect person to help us rebuild our villages! In this interview, Florence Ann and I have a real heart-to-heart on why community matters, the different relationship "archetypes" people embody, and actionable tips to strengthen old ties or form new ones. She shares vulnerable stories from her own life that illustrate core concepts, bringing such warmth and compassion to the conversation.  A few key insights that stuck out:- Loneliness can be as damaging to health as smoking 15 cigarettes a day. Community is essential medicine.  - We often focus selfishly on "what can others do for me" versus "how can I show up for them." Shift your mindset.- Join groups and causes aligned to your values. I walked away feeling hopeful and equipped to proactively nourish my relationships and connections. The timing of this message truly couldn't be better. I hope you'll tune into this soul-filling discussion with incredible wisdom from Florence Ann's journey. "Connect with your virtual village and find hope - you are worthy and deserve love!"   It takes a village, but it's not about the quantity of people, it's the quality of people that you're looking to attract in your life - everyone deserves to find their people, and it's about being intentional about how you are building and creating this kind of personal ecosystem for your life. Everyone is worthy of finding their people - no matter what your personality is like, no matter what your age, no matter what season you are in your life, you can come back to this book   Florence Ann Romano is an author, philanthropist, businesswoman, personal growth strategist, and village and childcare advocate. With a Bachelor of Science degree in Performance Theater from Bradley University, Romano has more than 500 media appearances discussing childcare and family support, and her book, "Build Your Village," encourages readers to create a strong and supportive community in their lives. After being a nanny for many years, Florence Ann Romano saw how all the moments she shared with the children she took care of truly made a difference in their lives. Upon seeing a particular child at a mutual friend's wedding and hearing how she was still the voice in her head, Florence realized the power of connection and began to advocate for the importance of building a village. She wanted everyone to know that no matter their age, they deserved to find their people and that no one is exempt from having a village for support. Florence reminded everyone that everyone is worthy of finding their own place in the world and that it takes both self-awareness and vulnerability to make meaningful connections.     This 30-minute episode is on: How can we create tight-knit, compassionate, and empathetic environments for our families? Everyone deserves a community.  We aren't supposed to have all the answers or know how to do everything on our own!  How do we construct our village and allow people to help?  It's hard to let love in, it requires patience and compassion my dad says. Building Your Village is about what communities actually mean!  Florence Ann Romano and I met on her Windy Cindy Nanny web series when I was going through postpartum having had a preemie 7 weeks early.  The series covered a wide range of guests and topics from single parents, to blended families, to widowed parents, and it helped her come up with the idea for her book!  How do you find a good nanny?  How are we parenting?  How do you find your tribe and identify potential villagers?  What questions should you be asking a caretaker?  It's a self care journey in how we show up for people!  Better Call Daddy: The Safe Space For Controversy. Florence Ann Romano (www.florenceann.com) is a village advocate, philanthropist, and author who has always had a special place in her heart for family and community. She worked as a childcare provider for over 15 years and believes the key to a family's success lies in focusing on what she calls THE TRIFECTA - parent, child, and caretaker working in unison toward common, family goals. Kathryn interviews Author, Journalist, Producer Miguel Sancho. There are approximately one in 2,000 children around the globe suffering from 400 types of Primary Immunodeficiency (PI), many of whom vaccinations aren't available due to age or compromised immune systems. For the parents of a child with PI, normal days can be filled with anxiety and fear, but amid a global pandemic, the quest for answers on how to keep your child safe is daunting. Miguel Sancho shares his family's incredible story as they search for a cure for their son's deadly immune deficiency and provide support for parents working through the same challenges with their children. With a constant risk of deadly infection, Miguel and his family spent six years in some degree of self-quarantine, with all its attendant anxieties and stressors, as they struggled to keep their son alive, their marriage intact, and themselves sane. He is an Emmy-winning journalist and television producer whose work can be seen on 20/20 and throughout the A+E networks including The History Channel..Kathryn also interviews Author, Philanthropist Florence Ann Romano. Census figures show there are over 11 million single-parent families in the United States, the majority of which are headed by single moms. However, those statistics don't show how many of those women chose to start a family on their own. While the U.S. teen birth rate is falling, the birth rate for women aged 35 and older is rising and more adult women are becoming single moms by choice through the process of in vitro fertilization rather than waiting for the right partner to start their families. Childcare and Village Advocate Florence Ann Romano, who has begun her own IVF journey to motherhood, shares with us her mindset, insights, experiences, and hopes. She has been featured on over 400 national and local media outlets across the country, including ABC,CBS, NBC and FOX TV affiliates, Home & Family, The Jenny McCarthy Show, SiriusXM, and more.

In this episode of Finger Painting the Future, Florence Ann Romano touches on her three rules she lives by — build your village, let love in, and ask for help! Building your village starts within your heart. Who do you love and trust? Your village doesn't have to be confined to your immediate home either. Second families are a great way to build your village! This can be the blending of two separate marriages, your close friends you trust with your kids, or even living in a multi-generational home! Listen as Florence Ann and Joe Fatheree talk about the importance of second families. Building your village is important, especially during COVID. Overnight we saw things change drastically — schools were closing, daycares were gone, nannies left the home, and it seemed as if parents were left with almost no village to lean on. 2020 left parents realizing the importance of the second family. According to recent studies, the loneliest generation in the US today is not the oldest Americans but the youngest, specifically young adults between 18 and 22 years old. The reality of the world we now live in has contributed to a crippling sense of anxiety and alienation in students across the country, but the question is what can we do to put a stop to it for the generations to come? To speak more about this issue, I invited Florence Ann Romano on the show. Florence, also known as the The Windy City Nanny™ is a dedicated philanthropist and former nanny who has always had a special place in her heart for children. Romano worked for over 15 years as a nanny. She shares her experiences in Nanny and Me, her debut book for children. Florence served as President and Founder of a nonprofit board dedicated to autism awareness and now serves on the Executive Board of the Children's Research Fund at Lurie's Children's Hospital. During our conversation, Florence and I speak about how today's youth can find a sense of community in their social life, as well as find purpose and meaning in a competitive job market. She also shares some tip for parents who want to raise more conscious and connected children.

Most people hate the news. Most people also watch the news for some reason. Some companies have begun saving people from themselves by banning it entirely. Let's hope it sticks.
