It emphasizes the importance of identifying and casting the right people into roles that support and uplift you. "I want you to think of this as casting a movie or a play. These are your main characters, and once you do that casting, you're gonna look back and think, okay, now I understand why I feel a certain way.". The Importance of Asking for Help (00:12:21 - 00:13:14) Asking for help is often challenging, especially for women. It addresses the fear of indebtedness and the perception of weakness that hinders many from reaching out. Societal pressures and personal insecurities often prevent people from asking for help, but true relationships thrive on mutual support and understanding. "The thing that ties public speaking as the number one fear in this world is asking for help... We get in our own way with the asking for help part of it.". Embracing Change and Personal Growth (00:37:09 - 00:38:03) The inevitability of change and embracing it can lead to personal growth and new opportunities. View change as a positive force that brings growth and new connections rather than something to fear. "The only thing I can promise you is that the village is gonna change... Instead of being afraid of that, lean into it and trust that if the village is changing, maybe it is for a reason.". Ep 201 - Hello Health Heroes! During the shutdowns during Covid-19 many people went into total isolation. Older folks in nursing homes were not visited by their families, children were masked and not allowed to play with their friends and you couldn't even go into a hospital to see your loved ones. All of these ridiculous measures created a extreme amount of loneliness, depression, stress, weight gain and spike in disease, death and suicide. I was very excited to meet Florence Ann Romano and have her come on the show and talk about the importance of building your tribe. I have known for years that human beings REQUIRE others to be in their life if they wish to have a long healthy, happy life. That is literally how we are wired genetically and the blue zones and all the data gathered in that study clearly show that is true. When the CDC moved the milestones for children development Ann got upset and started taking action. I hope you enjoy this episode and you also build your tribe for life long success and happiness! Isolation, loneliness, depression - these words have become all too common lately. As we emerge from a global pandemic that upended life as we knew it, many of us are struggling to reconnect and find a sense of community. Personally, I too have felt the strain on relationships and a yearning for more meaningful social bonds. That's why I'm so excited for my latest podcast episode where I interview Florence Ann Romano, an expert on building social connections. She wrote the book "Build Your Village: A Guide to Finding Joy and Community in Every Stage of Life" – and she's the perfect person to help us rebuild our villages! In this interview, Florence Ann and I have a real heart-to-heart on why community matters, the different relationship "archetypes" people embody, and actionable tips to strengthen old ties or form new ones. She shares vulnerable stories from her own life that illustrate core concepts, bringing such warmth and compassion to the conversation. A few key insights that stuck out:- Loneliness can be as damaging to health as smoking 15 cigarettes a day. Community is essential medicine. - We often focus selfishly on "what can others do for me" versus "how can I show up for them." Shift your mindset.- Join groups and causes aligned to your values. I walked away feeling hopeful and equipped to proactively nourish my relationships and connections. The timing of this message truly couldn't be better. I hope you'll tune into this soul-filling discussion with incredible wisdom from Florence Ann's journey. Get ready to start rebuilding your village! We hear that you need a Village to raise a child but that is also true for people of any age.Studies indicate that 1 in 5 Americans always or often feel lonely or socially isolated, and the adverse effects of loneliness reportedly become more debilitating the older we get. According to Caregiver Resources, there has been an upward trend in elderly isolation in the past 5 years; the ramifications include cognitive decline, depression, and immune deficiency. Lost in seclusion, older folks—especially those who have lost a spouse, live alone, or suffer from declining mobility—seem to be having trouble connecting again. Without directions, many cannot seem to find their way back to their “village.” Where are the directions to the village?! Where is the instruction manual?!In this episode of the Women Living Well After 50 Podcast, my guest is Florence Ann Romano, a personal growth strategist and author of Build Your Village: A Guide to Finding Joy & Community in Every Stage of Life.During the interview we discussed:· The importance of a village for older folks experiencing isolation—a support system for our physical, mental, and emotional health.· Redefining your village after the loss of a spouse. · The 6 types of villagers needed for a fully functioning village—their qualities and characteristics.· How to identify potential villagers & senior-friendly connection ideas.· Being part of a village is as much give as take. How to foster the villager qualities within yourself.· The importance of a primary as well as a secondary village, and the overlap between the two.Website: www.FlorenceAnn.comInstagram | Facebook Sue LoncaricWomen Living Well After 50Email: sue@womenlivingwellafter50.com.auFacebook Instagram
"Connect with your virtual village and find hope - you are worthy and deserve love!" It takes a village, but it's not about the quantity of people, it's the quality of people that you're looking to attract in your life - everyone deserves to find their people, and it's about being intentional about how you are building and creating this kind of personal ecosystem for your life. Everyone is worthy of finding their people - no matter what your personality is like, no matter what your age, no matter what season you are in your life, you can come back to this book Florence Ann Romano is an author, philanthropist, businesswoman, personal growth strategist, and village and childcare advocate. With a Bachelor of Science degree in Performance Theater from Bradley University, Romano has more than 500 media appearances discussing childcare and family support, and her book, "Build Your Village," encourages readers to create a strong and supportive community in their lives. After being a nanny for many years, Florence Ann Romano saw how all the moments she shared with the children she took care of truly made a difference in their lives. Upon seeing a particular child at a mutual friend's wedding and hearing how she was still the voice in her head, Florence realized the power of connection and began to advocate for the importance of building a village. She wanted everyone to know that no matter their age, they deserved to find their people and that no one is exempt from having a village for support. Florence reminded everyone that everyone is worthy of finding their own place in the world and that it takes both self-awareness and vulnerability to make meaningful connections. This 30-minute episode is on: How can we create tight-knit, compassionate, and empathetic environments for our families? What does it mean to have a "love style" instead of a "lifestyle"? How can we cultivate meaningful virtual relationships that provide nourishment and support? In fact, it's been found that those with a strong community and support system are living longer than those without. You'll leave this conversation inspired to build your village, let love in, and gain the courage to ask for help.

Everyone deserves a community. We aren't supposed to have all the answers or know how to do everything on our own! How do we construct our village and allow people to help? It's hard to let love in, it requires patience and compassion my dad says. Building Your Village is about what communities actually mean! Florence Ann Romano and I met on her Windy Cindy Nanny web series when I was going through postpartum having had a preemie 7 weeks early. The series covered a wide range of guests and topics from single parents, to blended families, to widowed parents, and it helped her come up with the idea for her book! How do you find a good nanny? How are we parenting? How do you find your tribe and identify potential villagers? What questions should you be asking a caretaker? It's a self care journey in how we show up for people! We will learn: How to identify your mom rage triggers. Strategies for coping with rage. How to build your village, even if virtual. My baby is only 18 months, so 90% of the time it's cuteness and cuddles and I love it so much. But there have been these moments, already, where I can just see red, I feel like he's doing it all on purpose just to fuck with me. And I know it's early, but if these moments are happening already what am I going to do when he actually has an attitude? When he actually has developed enough ego to try to get under my skin? So that's what we're learning today. Our guest is Florence Ann Romano. She is an author, and childcare and village advocate. She worked as a childcare provider for over 15 years and has always had a special place in her heart for children.
