[Explicit Content] We debut a new game show called America's Dumbest Dumbstupid, with Ben Shapiro, Louie Gohmert, and a crazy QAnon disciple. Brought to you by Geritol. The world feels really bleak, but there's reason for hope. Koch network pressuring Joe Manchin; House Dems have passed nearly everything we've asked for; House Dems also introduce bill to protect abortion access; Liz Cheney says Republicans feared for their lives; Trump wants to ban Twitter and Facebook; With Jody Hamilton and David TRex Ferguson; Music by Our New Autumn and Robby Bright; and more!
I started to get into Pope Francis' comments on Mary as co-redemptrix with Christ when I discovered that the Keynote presentation I had cued up included a picture of me and Gerry Matatics in the studio at WEZE in Boston from -someone hand me the Geritol- 1993, so I took the time to give all the background to the story. So about 45 minutes on that topic, then we talked about Kyle James Howard saying you can divorce an -unrepentant white supremacist- if you are in a mixed-race marriage, and finally we looked at a graphic from Soteriology 101 asking what the difference between the Potter and the pot is in comparison to the puppet master and the puppet.
There's no better way to start the show than to discuss old dead malls and the documentaries made about those old dead malls. *We just witnessed a crime happening outside our studio window! *Doomscrolling! Dead celebs you've never heard of and cops arresting guys for pulling a "Julia". *It's Wednesday! Get To Know Us! What fictional world would you like to live in and who's your all-time weirdest crush? *Feeling low about being middle aged? Well grab your Geritol and listen to this because we've got some news that cheer you up. *Kids have been stuck at home for so long that they're starting to say their parents are their best friends. *We can't stop comparing people to used cars. *Did these things really happen in the 90's? We've got the answers because we're old enough to remember. *Have a great night! Hit me up if you find an old PT Cruiser you want to get rid of. Looking for a convertible. -Everybody Wang Chung!!! Comic-Con? Chuckie Cheese? (1:22:00) Lil Boosie's Bad Ass might be on his way back to the lil' booty house. (1:27:25) Mike Tyson's Punch Out could be making a return in 2020 at the age of 53! Skateboarding's Self Proclaimed "Classy Broad" Jean Rusen sits down with me and her daughters Jada Keyser "Spawn 1" and Sadie Keyser "Spawn 2"... After a nice dinner of Deep Fried Ice Cream for the Spawns, Beer for Jean, and a Veggie Burrito for me, we sit and talk about ladies skateboarding, fashion, visiting Uncle Jim (actually they just come for Mama D's Italian food and I happen to live nearby). We discuss hubby and dad Steven Keyser's recent attempt to get run over by a Jeep, well actually it was successful, so attempt is slightly understated. It didn't really feel like a Podcast because I know them fairly well so it was just more of a conversation with some friends of mine, and hope you come along for a listen. Jean sadly watches her football team losing bringing the whole podcast down for a few seconds (ok, maybe 10), we grasp for potential sponsors (AARP, Advil, Geritol), we talk in bad accents, though the spawns think theirs are good. I asked for advice on how to make my podcast better, and was told "don't be you", and so much more... Lots of sarcasm in this one, but lots of good talk and opinions from a woman who has been involved with skateboarding for a long time, and is not afraid to share her opinion, and it's a pretty level headed and honest one. I love the Rusen-Keyser family, and appreciate them coming on and wish Steven Keyser a quick recovery from trying to take a nap under a Jeep.
In this episode, I discuss the gold digger and the golden child spending more time in the US. Certainly speaks LOUDLY when royals want to spend more time in the land of the free! I also discuss the crack in the peace treaty between Warren and Sanders; and the Democrats field looked like a Benetton commercial with a Geritol shameless plug.
In 1972, the year I was born, there was apparently a famous TV ad for Geritol. My guest today describes it thus: “…a husband spoke to the camera while his wife draped herself over his shoulder, smiling like something between a model and the brainwashed resident of a creepy commune…”My wife’s incredible. She took care of the baby all day, cooked a great dinner and even went to a school meeting—and look at her!” Her potion of eternal youth, of course, is Geritol. It’s got all the vitamins and iron she needs. This perfect woman grins silently at the camera as her husband concludes: “My wife: I think I’ll keep her.” Though what constitutes “getting old” for women in America has been a moving target throughout US history, it has rarely been a picnic. But our history’s also full of women who have raised hell and pushed back in a hundred different ways against the cultural and literal corsets America keeps trying to stuff them into. My guest today is New York Times columnist and celebrated author Gail Collins. Her new book is No Stopping Us Now: the Adventures of Older Women in American History. It’s a bumpy, often exhilarating ride through the lives of older women in America from colonial times up to the present day. And Gail’s good company as our wise, wisecracking stagecoach driver. We’re headed West, and there’s hope on the horizon. Conversation starter clips in this episode: Liz Plank on masculinity, from episode 214 Learn more about your ad choices.
