Former Miss Michigan and Michigan State Football player Jaclyn and Jon Misch are best known for their time together on CBS's “Survivor”, where Jaclyn won the title of first runner-up in Season 29 and where the couple had to navigate incredible challenges together on the island. One challenge that the couple knew they'd have to overcome together back at home was starting a family, as Jaclyn was born with MRKH - a condition that rendered her infertile and born without a uterus. In fact, Jaclyn was one of the first public people to bring more awareness to the disorder, which impacts approximately 1 out of every 5000 women. While Jaclyn and Jon knew that she wouldn't be able to carry a pregnancy, they never imagined all the twists and turns they'd experience on the way to parenthood - including a devastating 20-week stillbirth with a gestational surrogate who was carrying their little girl, Harper. Through faith, science and the generosity of Jon's first cousin, their gestational surrogate, Jaclyn and Jon are now the parents of a healthy little boy named Logan. And, while they now recognize that the experience strengthened their bond, they will never forget how infertility changed their marriage and their lives. This episode, which explores love, loss, resilience, and the realities of surrogacy, also features Staci Swiderski, Founder/CEO/Owner of Family Source Consultants, who supported this episode. Family Source Consultants is a leading authority in third party reproduction that matches and facilitates Gestational Surrogacy and Egg Donation arrangements for individuals and couples of all backgrounds in the US and Internationally. Feb. 23, 2021 - New Yorkers looking to have a baby via gestational surrogacy can now explore that option here in-state. Parham Zar, Managing Director of the Egg Donor & Surrogacy Institute, explained what New Yorkers can expect from this new system.
After becoming a fertility patient in 2004, Risa Levine began working to ensure federal insurance coverage for infertility treatment, and worked closely with RESOLVE for the passage of the family act to provide a tax credit for medical expenses incurred for infertility treatment. She has now committed to securing coverage for IVF for veterans injured in the line of duty, and for exploding the New York State mandate for including coverage for IVF. Following her own losing battle to keep her embryos in her divorce, Risa is dedicated to legislative change that would enable a party to keep his or her embryos as they desire. She is a passionate believer in grassroots activism and has been honored by RESOLVE numerous times. By day, she is a real estate attorney in the State of New York. In this episode, we talk about the Child-Parent Security Act (CPSA) and the importance of advocacy, where the surrogacy bill is today, and the legal nuances surrounding gestational surrogacy and establishing parental rights.
A New York state bill is gaining momentum. If passed it would protect the rights of parents who have their children with the help of third-party reproduction technology. That includes sperm, egg and embryo donation. But the bill would also legalize paid surrogacy, when a woman is paid to carry a baby for somebody else-- and that’s been controversial. Lauren Peace reports.

Few people could understand why Brittney Bolt, a married mother of two, would volunteer to carry babies for a couple she'd never met. Last week we heard the first part of her gestational surrogacy story, and today we learn how her "hitchhiker babies" made their way into the world. The life-giving, baby-growing "adventure" Brittney anticipated ended up being a complicated one. From preterm labor scares, magnesium and bed rest to delivery, diastasis recti and reconstructive surgery, there were more bumps in the road than the Bolts saw coming. The intended parents of the boy-girl twins Brittney carried live in New York and made it to South Carolina just in the nick of time on delivery day. Learn what reminded her of "Duck Hunt" as thee babies were born and how she feels about the possibility of being a surrogate again one day. Did you send in a question for Brittney on Instagram via @butnotallatonce? We may have answered yours in today's episode!Find Brittney at @brittbolt on Instagram or explore her YouTube channel at tinyurl.com/britt786, where you'll find an FAQ video and vlog posts from throughout her year-long surrogacy journey.
Few people could understand why Brittney Bolt, a married mother of two, would volunteer to carry twin babies for a couple she'd never met.Describing her as magnanimous or selfless only makes Brittney cringe; she thinks of her two transfers, one D&C, time on bed rest, twin delivery, month of pumping, and post partum reconstructive surgery as an "adventure" she felt called to take. In part one, hear about when Brittney knew she'd want to become a gestational surrogate (hint: I was more concerned with Dr. Pepper Lip Smackers and Ross and Rachel's break-up at that age), how she told her college boyfriend, and what made the conversation change once they married and became parents. Walk through the legalities of surrogacy; finding an agency; grappling with the mixed opinions of family and friends; matching with intended parents; the infertility struggles many IPs have faced; the challenges of parenting while pregnant with someone else's child; and starting a pregnancy as virtual strangers before becoming close (if long-distance) friends facing loss and new life together. Learn more next week as Brittney's twin "hitchhiker babies" are delivered and make their way home from South Carolina to New York.To see the surrogate being introduced to a surprised family in front of a waterfall, the video Brittney mentions, visit tinyurl.com/waterfallyoutube.See all of Brittney’s surrogacy journey videos on her YouTube channel at tinyurl.com/britt786.
Mother's Day can be a painful reminder for some, like would-be moms who are unable to become or stay pregnant. Dr. Bergman is the author of "Your Future Family: The Essential Guide to Assisted Reproduction," which is available for purchase online and in stores now. While I am a very spiritual person, I would never push my personal agenda on anyone. Rather, I consider it my privilege to pray over everyone we work with, and to look at each person I work with as a child of God—as family, not simply a client. This is what makes our agency different. At the end of the day my biggest concern is the child that we are about to bring into the world. Ultimately, this is who we work for. Of course, we are here for the intended parents, and the surrogates, and the egg donors, but—aside from God—the most important piece in this whole journey is this new life; this healthy baby boy or girl. And part of my mission as the founder of this agency is to make sure we never lose sight of that—as, unfortunately, many agencies do. This calling began back in 1998, when I was a kidney donor for my cousin. I didn’t know at the time what the future would hold, but this experience turned out to be a true catalyst for me to dedicate my life to serving others. Later, I decided to become an egg donor. While my first experience wasn’t perfect by any means, I felt compelled to help other families and went on to complete five more successful experiences. Then, in 2006, I began working with a surrogacy agency as their donor coordinator. I was fascinated with the journeys and knew that this was something I wanted to do. After thinking it over and receiving the blessing of my husband and family I embarked on a journey that would change my life forever. On my first surrogacy journey I delivered a set of healthy baby girl twins. I thought that I was surely done, but God had other plans for me. A year later a mutual friend introduced me to a second family, and I went on to have another successful pregnancy and delivered a beautiful baby boy. I completed my last journey for friends of mine and delivered another healthy baby girl. I was inspired to start my agency in 2008. With a combination of my personal experience and my MBA, I wanted to provide intended parents, egg donors, and surrogates with a unique and comprehensive experience—from someone who has truly been in their shoes. It is my goal and passion to increase the understanding and knowledge of the family building journey. My biggest joy comes from sharing the moment when intended parents finally get to realize their dream of having a family, and when gestational surrogates and egg donors feel an overwhelming sense of accomplishment for fulfilling someone’s else’s dream. I am grateful and blessed to be chosen by so many to assist them in this most precious journey. I’m so glad you’re here.
