Former Utah Gov. Gary Herbert joined former CIA Director and U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on Wednesday at the Crossroads of the World International Trade Summit. The two shared a wide-ranging discussion on trade, immigration, and global power dynamics. The invite-only event, sponsored by Zions Bank and World Trade Center Utah, focused heavily on international trade and ongoing tariff negotiations with the Trump White House. Leaders from around the globe gathered in Salt Lake City to explore Utah's growing influence on the international stage.Pompeo, who supports President Donald Trump, said he remains concerned about the long-term impact of tariffs.“President Trump hasn't been clear about his overall strategic objective here,” he said, referring to the escalating trade measures involving nearly every major economy.Herbert said Utah is well-positioned to navigate trade challenges on a state level, but acknowledged the uncertainty is troubling. He also touched on divisions within the Republican Party, especially over trade, noting there are many in the GOP who support Trump but disagree with some of his economic policies.Herbert said his conversation with Pompeo also included discussions on Israel, Russia, China, and other global powers. The two also shared perspectives on U.S. immigration policy, an issue Herbert says Congress has failed to seriously address.“What happens, unfortunately, in my view, is we have too many in Congress setting aside solving a problem as a top priority to getting re-elected as the number one priority — and then they get re-elected, but the people suffer,” Herbert said.On border security, Herbert stressed the need for a “working door” to allow legal entry after the border is secured. He also defended Utah's reputation as a welcoming state, referencing the Utah Compact, a set of principles focused on humane and practical immigration reform. When asked directly whether Utah has become a sanctuary state, Herbert was clear: “Utah is not a sanctuary state.”The former governor also highlighted the work of the Herbert Institute, which is currently focused on researching the use of artificial intelligence in Utah businesses.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

My husband has been a big game hunter in British Columbia and Hawaii for decades.  We eat what he kills.  For as long as I've known Mike, he has always wanted to hunt for New Zealand red stag with his bow.  We have checked that box.  Today's episode is all about the location where this incredible hunt took place.  Gary Herbert's New Zealand Mountain Hunt, at South Island, New Zealand, was a once in a lifetime event.  His lodge staff, guides, and his incredible property are all part of the memory big game hunters like Mike drool over.  For me, it wasn't about the location or the animals or the food – all of which were amazing – it was about supporting Mike in achieving a bucket list item.  Join me as I walk you around the hunting lodge and talk to you about this incredible experience.

Mark Hugentobler's unexpected journey led him to become the academy principal at the Central Utah Correctional Facility in Gunnison, Utah, following a successful career in education. Contrary to his initial perceptions, he discovered a prison system devoid of hope and functioning dysfunctionally. Recognizing the desire for change among inmates, he championed education as a means of providing hope and purpose. During his eight-year tenure, enrollment at the prison academy soared from 200 to nearly 1,200 students, showcasing the potential for transformation within a flawed system, all while highlighting the need for attentive ears to the stories of those incarcerated. Prison inmates need a structured path to rehabilitation that leads to responsibility, accountability, service, purpose, and hope. This process should last the full term of their sentence. If fully implemented, Governor Gary Herbert's ASCENT Program would sharply reduce inmates' re-offenses along with the prison's entire population. In this episode, Alex and Jason briefly discuss the new Netflix docuseries titled “The Secret of Skinwalker Ranch”, a show about investigative works of Dr. Travis Taylor and his gang of Alien hunters trying to catch on camera footage of UFO or advanced alien portals. Together with Travis's buddies and the joint initiative by former Utah Gov. Gary Herbert and the wealthy estate broker Brandon Fugal, owner of the Ranch, this docu series has a trending spike on conspiracies, instead of receiving a good image, now backfires into misunderstood perceptions of the general UFO researching community.   Originally, the Skinwalker ranch has a rich mythology of its true native inhabitants. Historical record shows the old Navajo shamanism are common themes of folklore. The entire Ballard community was built upon its distinct identity to superstitious awareness and a rich folklore passed through generations of Americans.  However, a group of “extraterrestrial hunters' ', together with its business and political partners, tried to milk out the ranch by linking its native folklore to the contemporary parallels of alleged extraterrestrials living in the 512 acre land.    There are questionable research efforts of modern documentaries. Alex and Jason mention the cheesy sensationalism of the Skinwalker Ranch where obvious portrayals of white people. The choppy, and rapid transitions and video editing strongly suggest what Alex and Jason makes out of it; a sloppy, stitched out UAP documentary frenzy. While the docuseries has well-received reviews, we, at Higher Density Living, taste a disservice to the entire UFO researching community, at large, for such representation of cliché and stereotypical tin-foil addicts rather than professional and intellectual members of the society. The series also omits native origins which is a sign of disrespect. If we do not have a correct sense of history, or balance thereof, we don't have anything to prove for a better future. Bottom line is we need to make things clear and make sure it is right on the topic.   As always, Higher Density Living reserves no dogma because only the truth prevails in the universe. www.higherdensityliving.com

190 - VITA Prima marcia in India, in Usa pro-choice all'attacco

Zoom: una notizia alla settimana | RRL

Play Episode Listen Later Aug 15, 2022 4:14

Gary Herbert launched the Stay Safe, Stay Home initiative, encouraging people to stay home where they could, especially encouraging people to work from home when they could. That marked a huge change for many people. Now we recognize that not all industries were able to move to working from home. Healthcare, restaurants, construction, hospitality, all still required most workers to show up on site every day. But in many industries, working from home was possible and required a quick pivot–and has created some big changes in many different industries. For many, the pandemic has highlighted many problems within our businesses that have been around for decades–and is pushing us to find solutions. Need a good read? Here are three recommendations from Amanda Dickson's guests on A Woman's View: "Two Old Women" is an Alaskan legend about two old women who were abandoned by their tribe. "The Tree at the Center" is a book of poetry by an up and comer that sounds wonderful. "A Passage to India" is a wonderful classic from the 60's that speaks to many modern issues when three people from England come to India and are shocked when they cannot befriend the Indian people because of race. Amanda's guests this week are: Pamela Atkinson, a community advocate and advisor to Governor Gary Herbert; Liz Sollis, the marketing and communications manager of the Salt Lake County Library; and Jean Millar, the executive director of the Women and Newborns Clinical Program at Intermountain Healthcare.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

But many environmental groups have raised an alarm, alleging the petition is not about forest health at all, but rather extractive industries. Tune in and learn more. [photo: Mt.
