"Heart Issues" - May 18, 2025 - Youth Pastor Lentz Toth
Today, we're discussing the recent controversy surrounding Shiloh Hendrix, who called a black child a racial slur at a playground instead of taking the concern to the child's parents. This behavior is not only unacceptable—it's unchristian. As followers of Christ, we are called to be above reproach (1 Timothy 3:2), especially when dealing with the next generation. God will not judge us by our skin color, so why are we so quick to judge others by theirs? We can simultaneously be aware of the statistics about certain cultures within particular races, and realize that this is not how we handle those problems. We'll explore the biblical approach to conflict resolution. When there's a problem with a child's behavior, the godly route is to speak directly with their parents—not to attack the child. Christians must hold one another accountable. --https://policecoffee.com/collections/coffee

“Where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” — Matthew 6:21When Jesus said those words, He wasn't just giving us a lesson on giving or saving. He was getting to the root of something much deeper: our hearts. At Faith & Finance, we often say that money touches every part of life, but the most important part is our spiritual life. Our financial decisions, priorities, and fears don't just reflect our budgets—they reflect our beliefs, values, and, ultimately, our worship.Let's explore how our money issues are really heart issues—and what that means for how we live and give.More Than Just a ToolMany people see money as a neutral resource—a tool to earn, spend, save, or give. But Scripture reveals that money has much more influence than we realize. It can:Shape our desiresTest our trustReveal what we truly worshipThat's why issues like debt, greed, anxiety, or even generosity aren't primarily financial—they're spiritual. When we overspend to maintain a lifestyle, is it because our identity is tied to our possessions? When we obsess over savings or investments, is it because we trust our bank account more than we trust God? When we hesitate to give, are we being ruled by fear of not having enough? In this way, money becomes a spiritual thermometer—measuring our faith and showing us where our hearts truly rest. The Rich Young Ruler: A Heart ExposedOne of the clearest biblical examples of this dynamic is the story of the rich young ruler in Mark 10:17–22. Eager to inherit eternal life, this man claimed to have kept all the commandments. But Jesus knew his heart.“Go, sell everything you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.” — Mark 10:21The man walked away, sorrowful. His wealth had a stronger grip on his heart than his desire to follow Jesus. His struggle wasn't with budgeting—it was with idolatry. As John Calvin famously said, “The human heart is an idol factory.” We all have things we cling to—things we're tempted to trust more than God. The rich young ruler's story invites us to ask: What would make us walk away from Jesus? If the answer is money, then our issue isn't financial—it's spiritual. When Money Reveals Fear, Not Just GreedOf course, not everyone struggles with greed. Some struggle with fear. Jesus spoke to this often. In Matthew 6:25–34, Jesus tells us not to worry about food, drink, or clothing. If God cares for the birds of the air and the flowers of the field, how much more will He care for His children?Financial anxiety reveals something crucial: a lack of trust in God's provision. When we believe our well-being depends entirely on our ability to earn, save, or invest, we carry a weight God never intended us to bear. This doesn't mean we shouldn't plan wisely—but it does mean that financial stress often signals a deeper spiritual need to trust God's character and promises.Generosity: A Window Into the SoulIf money is a heart issue, then our generosity—or lack of it—speaks volumes. The early church in Acts was known for radical generosity. Believers sold possessions and shared what they had to meet each other's needs. Why? Because the gospel had transformed their hearts. Their giving flowed not from guilt but from grace.C.S. Lewis once wrote,“Every faculty you have…is given you by God. If you devoted every moment of your whole life exclusively to His service, you could not give Him anything that was not in a sense His own already.”True generosity doesn't come from obligation—it comes from a heart that knows everything belongs to God.So ask yourself: Do I see money as mine to control or God's to steward? Do I give joyfully—or do I give reluctantly, out of fear?Transforming Our Financial HeartsSince money problems are ultimately heart problems, the solution goes beyond budgeting tools and interest rates (as helpful as those are). What we need most is heart transformation. Here are four truths to guide your financial discipleship:1. Recognize That Money Is a Test of TrustDo you really believe God will provide? If not, fear will drive your financial choices more than faith.2. Practice GratitudeDiscontentment fuels anxiety, but gratitude shifts our focus to what God has already given.3. Give GenerouslyGiving breaks the power of money over your heart. It's a spiritual exercise that redirects your trust toward God.4. Seek First the KingdomJesus promised that if we seek God's kingdom first, all these things—our needs—will be provided (Matthew 6:33). Prioritize Him, and let peace replace worry. What Do You Treasure Most?In the end, how we handle money reveals what we treasure. May we be people who treasure Christ above all—because only then will our hearts be truly free.Let's make sure our treasure—and our trust—are in the right place. On Today's Program, Rob Answers Listener Questions:I retired in 2021 with a good income and 401(k), but now I've depleted my debt, and I'm struggling to pay bills. God gave us the command to not murder nor commit adultery to protect what He values most—people, relationships, and the condition of our hearts. These commands are not just about avoiding wrong but about cultivating love, trust, and spiritual wholeness. Jesus takes them further by showing that sin begins within—anger leads to destruction, and lust breaks covenant long before actions do. That's why we're called to guard our hearts. When our hearts are healthy and surrendered to God, we build lives that honor Him and reflect His love.Pastor Billy LileSunday March 30, 2025 Live at 11:15 AM

They explore why these movements have thrived in regions like South Asia but remain slower to gain traction in North America. Highlights from the Episode Josh shares how movements in South Asia have seen remarkable success, citing examples like 75,000 conversions in nine months. He contrasts this with the slower growth in North America, attributing it less to cultural factors and more to deeper spiritual and heart-level issues. Two Key Success Factors The hosts identify two game-changing practices driving movements overseas: Radical Prayer and Fasting: South Asian leaders dedicate hours daily to prayer and frequently fast, practices less common in North American churches. Josh emphasizes that these spiritual disciplines create the foundation for breakthroughs. Personal Evangelism: Leaders overseas are bold and persistent in sharing the gospel, sowing “seeds” widely. The hosts argue that more sharing leads to a greater harvest, encouraging listeners to adopt this “crazy farmer” mindset. North American Barriers The conversation shifts to the unique obstacles in North America, including: Busyness and Self-Sufficiency: The fast-paced, self-reliant culture leaves little space for spiritual disciplines like prayer and fasting. Comfort Zones: A lack of desperation for spiritual renewal often hinders a deeper dependence on Jesus. Practical Steps for Listeners Josh and Jason offer actionable advice: Start small with prayer and fasting, even just with a friend or small group for accountability. Pray intentionally for revival and specific individuals by name. Focus on strategic, mission-oriented prayers rather than only personal needs. Stories and Encouragement Josh shares powerful examples from South Asia, illustrating how focused prayer and fasting have sparked spiritual awakenings. He encourages listeners to expect God to move when they step out in faith. Reframing Evangelism The hosts address common misconceptions about evangelism: Words Matter: They debunk the idea of “preach the gospel, use words if necessary,” stressing the need for both proclamation and a gospel-aligned lifestyle. Positive Message: Sharing the beauty and grace of Jesus is more effective than relying on fear or condemnation. A Vision for Revival Josh and Jason end on a hopeful note, envisioning a future where North American Christians embrace prayer, fasting, and bold evangelism to spark widespread spiritual renewal. Call to Action Listeners are encouraged to reflect on the episode's themes and take small, actionable steps toward deeper spiritual practices. Josh hints at more in-depth discussions in upcoming episodes and directs listeners to resources on discipleship.org for support. This episode is packed with practical insights and inspiring stories, urging believers to lean into prayer, fasting, and evangelism to reignite disciple-making movements.

Pastor Tim explores the theme of gluttony, drawing parallels to Nathaniel Hawthorne's "The Scarlet Letter" to highlight how certain sins are often minimized or overlooked. He emphasizes that gluttony, like other sins, is a heart issue that can harm both ourselves and others, urging listeners to view food as a gift from God meant for pleasure and purpose. Ultimately, the sermon reminds us of Jesus' grace and forgiveness, encouraging us to live in a way that honors God and loves others.

A quick update: The post that I get the most questions about is “How to get a CT Calcium Score.” The most frequent question is: “Where can I get one?” and “How much does it cost?”The cost question was a surprisingly hard question to answer. Year Of The Opposite - Travis Stoliker's Substack is a reader-supported publication. To receive new posts and support my work, consider becoming a free or paid subscriber. The costs generally range between $100 and $250. I but I didn't know much precise cost until this week. It came in at $156 and as I pointed out in the previous post, my insurance was likely to not cover the expense. I accepted that expense and felt it was still worth it for me and my family. As you may recall, it was actually fairly difficult for me to get the test because my primary care doctor wasn't willing to recommend it. I had to enlist a friend to connect me directly with a cardiologist. (Thanks Jeffs!)The price didn't surprise me, since I knew it was coming. But what was a bit humorous to me was the response from my insurance company. As you will recall, the test revealed that my heart was blocked more than 90% of people my age and it also identified that I have Left Ventricular Hypertrophy (LVH or hardening of the heart tissue). So you would think that my insurance company would be thankful that I identified these conditions so that I can now take proactive steps to reduce the risk that I will have a heart attack. And since the cost was so low at $156, maybe they would now cover the expense. Nope! The insurance company denied the claim saying that I didn't qualify to get this test even though 2 years ago I had all of the clinical indications that I could be at risk. I had high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and high triglycerides for about 10 years. But since I wasn't 45, I didn't qualify to have this covered by my insurance. It's pretty wild. Especially considering the fact that about 50% of Americans that experience heart attacks have no prior indication that they might have a heart issue! I'm not mad at my insurance company for not covering it. I knew that this was a possibility. But I would suggest that this might be a broken system if saving lives is the goal of the health care system. What do you think? We are drawn to friends that excite us. But that excitement comes in different forms. Some friends make us feel happiness, love, energy, positivity, and they fill us with optimism. But some friends excite us because they fill us with rage, fear, hate, or pessimism. These are very different feelings of excitement. Sure, it is true that some people are able to use that fear or rage and convert it into fuel to slay dragons and storm the castle, fighting towards a righteous cause to rescue the princess and save the day. But I find my life to be much more joyful when I'm surrounded by friends who see every challenge as an opportunity. When those friends are filled with hope, positivity, and optimism—it's a feeling that easily transforms into love. Don't define yourself by what you oppose; define yourself by what you stand for.Don't debate a rock. Before engaging in a debate, I like to ask, 'What's a significant belief or opinion you've changed in the past year or two?' If they haven't or offer something trivial, I simply smile and nod. There's little value in debating with someone who never changes their mind.If you get ANY value out of this, could you consider sharing it with 2 friends? Every one of us is born with a heart issue and today's guest was born with both a spiritual and a physical condition. We will hear about his battle to stay alive and how God is using him despite his heart condition. He has had more than one physical test as well as other tests over the last 6 to 8 years and you'll hear him tell us that you can't have a testimony if you don't have a test. He will also share that if we don't give up control and allow God to handle things, we will never have peace and joy.

It's Friday, May 10th, A.D. 2024. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard at www.TheWorldview.com. I'm Adam McManus. (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Adam McManus Muslims attacked praying Catholic students On Sunday, May 5th, two young women were slightly wounded when a mob of Muslims assaulted a group of 15 Catholic students who were praying at a rented house in Banten Province, on the Indonesian island of Java, reports Morning Star News. Enraged at the Catholic group praying in a home rather than in a church building, the local neighborhood head incited area Muslims to break up the meeting and injure the two female students in a suburb of Jakarta at about 7:30 p.m. Some of the assailants were reportedly armed with long machetes, sickles, knives, and blocks. One of the young women suffered a slight wound near her nose while another sustained a minor wound in the stomach, in spite of efforts by some local Muslims to protect them. The conflict began when the leader, identified as Diding, peeped into the house where the students were praying, and then intruded in, confronting the students for prayer, and ultimately dispersing them. Chicago Teachers Union demanding abortion coverage, gender-neutral bathrooms The Chicago Teachers Union is demanding $50 billion in its contract negotiations to pay for a 9% wage increase, abortions, illegal immigrant services and "gender-neutral bathrooms" for every school district, according to leaked documents, reports The Christian Post. Earlier this year, local news outlet WLS reported that Chicago teachers requested $2,000 for each of the 5,000 illegal immigrant students recently enrolled in the district, including more bilingual teachers and full tuition coverage for teachers to obtain a bilingual certificate. The list of demands also included a series of sexual perversion provisions, with the Chicago Teachers Union calling for every school in the district to have at least one "gender-neutral restroom" and annual homosexual/transgender training for educators. No wonder the number of homeschooled children continues to skyrocket. Student newspaper: "Hitler's got some good ideas." The student newspaper at McClatchy High School in Sacramento, California is facing a big time controversy. The Prospector student newspaper published an anonymous quote in the most recent edition praising Adolf Hitler. A student said, “Hitler's got some good ideas.” It was part of a story about “weird things” overheard in the school's hallways, reports CBS News. The student staff later posted a statement saying the quote did not reflect their ideals or beliefs. But they were glad it sparked a conversation on how students choose their words. The principal fired off a message to families saying the newspaper's actions were “deeply offensive.” And the newspaper's faculty adviser has been placed on paid leave, which angered journalists across the state. Steve O'Donoghue, director of the California Scholastic Journalism Initiative, said, “They have the right to print it. They're not advocating for it, they're just quoting what a student said.” Christian talk show host Todd Starnes wrote, “It's worth noting that a recent survey showed that 63 percent of Millennials and Generation Z did not know that 6 million Jews were killed in the Holocaust. That's what happens when public schools whitewash history. The kids are ignorant of great atrocities in world history and the next thing you know – the McClatchy High School student newspaper is singing Hitler's praises.” Ultra-processed food leads to weight gain, heart issues, & depression Research published in The British Medical Journal shows that eating a lot of ultra-processed foods such as sugary cereals, frozen meals, and sodas has been linked to poor mental health and a greater risk of dying from heart issues, reports The Telegraph. Ultra-processed foods are usually higher in fat, sugar and salt and contain chemicals, colorings, sweeteners and preservatives that extend shelf life. And thanks to Dr. Chris van Tulleken, author of the bestselling book Ultra-Processed People: The Science Behind Food That Isn't Food, it's a term now popping up everywhere. Dr. van Tulleken explains that ultra-processed foods are not only “high-fat, high-salt and high-sugar, but these ingredients have been combined into industrial products with exotic additives, which can't really be described as food. They're ultra-processed foods, a set of edible substances that are addictive for many and which are now linked to weight gain, early death and, yes – depression.” In 1 Corinthians 6:19-20, the Apostle Paul asked, “Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, Who is in you, Whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore, honor God with your bodies.” Hero saves 11-month-old baby from blazing fire And finally, an Ohio man is being hailed a hero after risking his life to save an 11-month-old baby trapped inside a burning home, reports FaithWire.com. John Stickovich, age 62, was on his way to work at the time and jumped out of the car after he saw smoke billowing out from a house. STICKOVICH: “The mother was sitting on the tree lawn with her one baby. I asked her if she was all right and she said, ‘My baby is still in the house.'” He told WJW-TV that he repeatedly went inside the house to try to find the baby in the haze of smoke and fire. Emergency workers were not yet on the scene, so he acted fast. He crawled through an open door into the kitchen and started searching for the child. At first, Stickovich couldn't find the baby, so he went back outside to ask the mother for guidance. STICKOVICH: “Came back out, asked her where the baby way. She told me: ‘Next to the kitchen, by the baby gate.'” Then, he bravely entered the inferno once again. STICKOVICH: “It was getting so bad in there, I was getting ready to leave actually. And then the baby cried or made a sound. You know, I'm thinking to myself: ‘The baby is right here.” So, I just lurched forward and my arm went across his leg, I grabbed him by the leg, and we were both out.” Firefighters, who said the home was fully engulfed in the inferno by the time they arrived, are now dubbing Stickovich a hero and crediting him for saving the baby's life. The man was simply grateful he was able to assist. STICKOVICH: “I feel wonderful that I could save the baby. That mother doesn't have to mourn her baby. That baby gets to live today. I mean I would do it for anybody — it doesn't matter. And I would hope that somebody would do it for me.” John 15:13 says, “Greater love has no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.” Or, in this case, for a complete stranger who happens to be 11 months old. If you want a more peaceful home don't take the normal parenting short-term approach. Correcting your children's behavior is important and it's vital to be consistent, but if you don't tend to their hearts while doing so, it will lead to frustration over time. It also misses an important opportunity for getting to the heart level of the issue with your children that should end by pointing them to Jesus. A biblically based approach to correcting your children. Remember, if you don't have their heart in this season, you will likely lose it in the next. Just think about it, most Christian parents don't have their children's hearts in a strong enough way in today's society, but it's essential. In this episode, Tudor and Tommy Waller discuss the need for transparency, accountability, and whistleblower protection in the electric utility industry. They highlight the potential mismanagement of power lines by Hawaiian Electric and the devastating wildfires in Maui. The conversation also delves into the national security risks associated with the electrical grid, including the potential for foreign adversaries to disrupt or control it. They criticize the lack of bipartisan efforts to secure the grid and express concerns about the feasibility and security of relying solely on clean energy sources. Additionally, Waller discusses the negative impact of vaccine mandates on the military and raises awareness about the potential consequences of an electromagnetic pulse (EMP) attack on the United States.
