This week our conversation is with Duncan Stone, author of the book “Different Class – The Untold Story of English Cricket”, which explores the notion of inclusion and exclusion within cricket at all levels. It was a conversation we undertook in the hope that doing so would help to contextualise current day issues in cricket, and then to consider how we might pro-actively impact the game so it could have a more inclusive future; clearly a highly topical conversation at any time, but doubly so in the context of the ICEC report which was released earlier this summer. Duncan shares some of his thoughts as to how the cultural and historical development of the game (and its stakeholders in particular) has led to the contemporary environment, and some steps that can be taken to help truly make cricket a game for all.   Enjoy the show!   Notes on podcast series:   The Community Cricket Podcast is brought to you by Twenty 20 Community Cricket Ltd, a not-for-profit organisation aiming to support and promote cricket in state schools, to develop young cricketers of all ages & backgrounds and to develop associate cricket nations at all levels. The podcast is presented by Tim Ferrone and Darren Talbot. Darren brings an enormous wealth of cricket coaching and development experience, and Tim reckons he spends more time coaching than he does his ‘proper' job. In this episode Dale and Val talk about cost overruns and risk. Estimating projects can be challenging, but the maturity of contingency, risk and estimate management is considered decades ahead in other sectors, so why not infrastructure? We talk to risk and estimating expert John Hollmann on his views about what makes Infrastructure projects more challenging, as well as the opportunity of technology to help alleviate cost challenges on infrastructure projects.  A little about John: He helps owner companies improve their cost engineering competencies and capabilities. This includes projects involving engineering and construction in most sectors (e.g., process, power, mining, infrastructure, transportation, etc.). John is passionate about the field of Cost Engineering and has been a leader in developing technical standards. John has been on the Boards of AACE and ICEC, as well as lead author and editor of AACE's "Total Cost Management Framework" text, authored "Project Risk Quantification" text, authored many AACE Recommended Practices plus many papers and led the development of AACE's Decision and Risk Management Professional (DRMP) certification. Most recently, working with Koff & Guerrero Consultants, launched the ValidRisk cloud-based risk quantification software.  You can check out more by visiting www.validest.com and validrisk.com    This podcast is brought to you by:     JustDo.com   InEight.com    PlanAcademy.com - save $75 on any course with this link - www.planacademy.com/chatter/ #projectmanagement #projectcontrols #projectplanning #projectriskmanagement #projectledaership --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/project-chatter-podcast/message

016: How Groupon Used Social Proof To Increase Sales

The Psychology of Copywriting

Social proof is the idea that the behaviors of others influence our own actions and attitudes. Social proof creates that sense of FOMO (fear of missing out) and convinces people to do what the majority of those around them are doing. Did you know companies such as Groupon used social proof to increase their sales? In this episode, you'll find out why social proof is powerful and how you can use it.   Today's article focuses on Groupon and how the company sold coupons by knowing its consumers. The article found that larger discounts on coupons did not lead to more sales. Instead, social proof was such a predictable and reliable driver of sales that they could use it as a tool to predict sales with a high degree of accuracy.   Groupon knows that their “subscribers are not looking for the perfect deal, they're looking for the perfect excuse to try something new”. Do you know your clients' motivations? Data from today's study shows us that sometimes, our ideal client gets caught up in social proof, regardless of their values and motivations. How do we as copywriters deal with this? As mentioned in previous episodes, it is important to know your ideal customer, but also to recognize that sometimes social proof gets in the way.   What To Look For In This Episode: [00:06:55] What today's article revealed.
