A @Christadelphians Video: Description: As far as God is concerned, clothing was designed to represent humility and separation. We find that the Bible starts with nakedness and ends with appropriate clothing. God's view of modesty expected in a worshipper, as outlined in the Bible, is explored. Consideration is given to the roles of men and women as symbolising Christ and his Bride."Highlights

Joy! Suddenly, as we read through the Ladder of Dive Ascent every cross, every struggle in the spiritual life, while still present, begins to fade into the background. The costs involved in this struggle pales in comparison to the blessings and the fruits that God bestows upon us, especially prayer . St. John places before us the essentials of prayer - as well as what can undermine it. We continue to struggle to confine our thoughts and then to completely still the mind and the heart. When this takes place, prayer becomes perfection and rapture in the Lord.  This joy, however, especially among the anchorites is marked by humility. One does not expose the deepest elements of the most intimate relationship indiscriminately with others. In any case, it would be impossible to do so. As we are drawn along in faith, as we begin to encounter and experience God as he is in himself, words fail us. What we must do is hold on to what is precious. Imperfections and anxieties can pull us away from God and our trust in his love. Furthermore the evil one is ever set on disrupting that relationship. Plotting and conniving as he is, he will stir an emotion within our heart; or influence another to engage us in such a way so as to agitate or distract. But we must keep our eyes upon the Beloved.  St. John asks, “For what have I in heaven? Nothing. And what have I desired on earth beside Thee? Nothing, but to cling continually to Thee in prayer without distraction.”  Hearing these words, one can never look upon prayer simply as an activity or discipline. It is life. It is love. We are to become prayer. --- Text of chat during the group:  00:06:52 Bob Cihak, AZ: P. 235, # 19   00:11:46 Myles Davidson: Greetings from New Zealand! (8) Distinctives That Get Us in Trouble

Does the younger generation know why you do what you do? In this podcast, Scott Brown and Jason Dohm discuss (8) distinctives that have got Christians “in trouble” as they've embraced God's Word rather than worldly trends: (1) the sufficiency of Scripture, not the sufficiency of culture; (2) the regulative principle as opposed to the normative principle of worship; (3) Sabbath-keeping vs. sabbath-breaking; (4) the continued applicability of God's moral law, rather than antinomianism; (5) age-integrated, not age-segregated worship; (6) theologically-sound, rather than theologically unsound music; (7) biblical manhood and womanhood, instead of egalitarianism; (8) and a culture of modesty vs. immodesty in the church. Here's the backdrop. For the last several decades, a growing number of families and churches have gone back to the Bible and reshaped how they live and worship. Throwing off compromises that dominated the 20th century, they've sought to conform their practices to age-old biblical standards. But if the foundational reasons for these changes aren't reinforced through careful discipleship, the next generation can easily fall prey to error again. To learn more about these (8) distinctives, check out the resources below or search our resource library here. 1. The Sufficiency of Scripture, not the Sufficiency of Culture Do Not Learn the Way of the Gentiles 2. The Regulative Principle, as opposed to the Normative Principle of Worship Only God Can Regulate Worship 3. Sabbath-keeping vs. Sabbath-breaking Confronting the Thieves of Sabbath Delight 4. The Continued Applicability of God's Moral Law, rather than Antinomianism The Harmony of Law and Gospel 5. Age-integrated, not Age-segregated Worship A Biblical Case for Age-Integrated Discipleship A Declaration of the Complementary Roles of Church and Family 6. Theologically Sound rather than Theologically Unsound Music Can I Use Any Form of Music to Worship God? 7. Biblical Manhood and Womanhood, instead of Egalitarianism The Sufficiency of Scripture for Manhood and Womanhood 8. A Culture of Modesty vs. Immodesty in the Church Beyond Modesty: The Supremacy of Christ in Clothing

Bible Questions And Answers For Believers
Is Enticement Lust And Immodesty Wrong?

Bible Questions And Answers For Believers

I will be sharing a podcast message with you today called “Enticement, Lust, and Modesty.” Lusting after a woman or man is biblically wrong. Also using enticement or wearing provocative (or limited clothing) with the intent of getting someone to lust is wrong as well. Plus, God wants women (and men as well) to be modest. Lust, Enticement, and a total disregard for modesty are all unGodly and God's Word tell believers how they are to conduct themselves concerning all three. Job 31:1 "I made a covenant with my eyes not to look lustfullv at a young woman. Job 31:9 "If my heart has been enticed by a woman, or I have lurked at my neighbor's doorway, Proverbs 1:10 My son, if sinners entice you, do not consent. Matthew 5:28 But I tell you that anyone who looks at woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart. Matthew 26:41 Keep watching and praying that you may not enter into temptation; the spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak" 1 Timothy 2:9 Likewise also that women should adorn themselves in respectable apparel, with modesty and self-control, not with braided hair and gold or pearls or costly attire, As believer in the Lord, we should strive to avoid being lusters, enticers, nor immodest. If you are a brother or sister that is struggling in this area, hold yourself accountable, confess it to the Lord, and pray about it to the Lord to help you change. Also, pray with genuine believers to encourage, support, and hold you accountable as well. Furthermore, as believers men and women should value a person of the opposite sex as an individual made in the image of God not as object to lust and desire for. The desire and passion a man should have for a woman should be reserved for his wife or future wife if he isn't married yet. In addition, this applies vice versa to woman as well (Proverbs 5:18-19, Ecclesiastes 9:9, Genesis 2:24). Nothing wrong with looking nice, presentable, and attractive but avoid crossing the line of becoming an enticer for lust or a luster for enticement. #sexualimmorality #christianity #sin #adultery #corinthians #bible #jesus #fornication #sexualsin #love #christian #god #sex #lust #podcast #christianpodcast #discipleship #bibleverse #theriotpodcast #episode #newepisode #flee #christianinspiration #christjesus #porn #repent #repentorperish #bibleverses #jesusfollower #believeinjesus --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/biblequestionsandanswers/message Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/biblequestionsandanswers/support

Should Believers Avoid Enticement, Lust, and Immodesty?

Bible Questions And Answers For Believers

The Definitions of Enticement, Lust, and Immodesty Enticement - something used to attract or to tempt someone; a lure. Lust - have a very strong sexual desire for someone. Immodesty - indecent, shameless, not modest The Sin Of Enticement Using enticement or wearing provocative or limited clothing with the intent of getting someone to desire or lust for you is wrong in accordance to God's word regardless of anyone's personal opinion or dogma about it. Enticement, Lust, and Immodesty are all unGodly and God's Word tells believers how they are to conduct themselves concerning all three. I am now going to share with you some Bible verses on “How To Avoid An Enticer or Enticement.” Proverbs 1:10 - My son, if sinners entice you, do not consent. 2 Peter 2:18 - For speaking out arrogant words of vanity they entice by fleshly desires, by sensuality, those who barely escape from the ones who live in error, Job 31:9 - “If my heart has been enticed by a woman, or I have lurked at my neighbor's doorway, Some Scriptures On How To Overcome Lust Job 31:1 “I made a covenant with my eyes not to look lustfully at a young woman Romans 13:14 But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to gratify its desires.
2 Timothy 2:22 - Flee also youthful lusts: but follow righteousness, faith, charity, peace, with them that call on the Lord out of a pure heart. James 1:14-15 - But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed.   (Read More...) Job 31:1 - I made a covenant with mine eyes; why then should I think upon a maid? 1 Peter 2:11 - Dearly beloved, I beseech you as strangers and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul;
 Hebrews 13:4 - Marriage is honourable in all, and the bed undefiled: but whoremongers and adulterers God will judge Matthew 26:41 Keep watching and praying that you may not enter into temptation; the spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.” Believers Are Commanded To Be Modest 1 Timothy 2:9 - “In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with braided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array;” Believers In The Lord Should Avoid Being An Enticer, Full of Lust, Or Dress Immodestyly If a brother or sister is struggling in these areas, he or she needs to hold themselves accountable, confess, and repent about it unto the Lord to help them change. Also, they should pray with genuine believers to encourage, support, and hold themselves accountable as well. Furthermore, as believers men and women should value a person of the opposite sex as an individual made in the image of God not as an object to Entice, Lust after, nor defend Immodesty The desire and passion a man should have for a woman should be for his wife or future wife if he isn't married yet, and this applies vice versa as well (Proverbs 5:18–19,Ecclesiastes 9:9, Genesis 2:24). There is nothing wrong with looking nice, presentable, and modest, but you should avoid crossing the line to become an Enticer for Lust or a person full of Lust for Enticement, nor an Enticer for Immodesty. In closing, God is the same, yesterday, today, and forever. Grace is not a license to do what we want, it actually should compel us to do what God commands in accordance to His Word with the help of the Holy Spirit. #biblepodcast #thebible #biblequestionsandanswers #podcasting #necromancy #lust #enticement #immodesty --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/biblequestionsandanswers/message Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/biblequestionsandanswers/support

It's only May, but summer weather has officially started for us…and skin is out! It seemed like a good time to talk about modesty. It's something Katie really wanted to avoid talking about for a long time, but she felt really at peace now doing this episode. We're excited to share with you guys our thoughts on this topic! Immodesty is distracting. It's loud either in attitude, dress or deed. When something is loud, it's not longer giving glory to God. It's stopping right here with me saying “look, this is my body, focus on that instead of the bigger picture of being here to glorify Christ.” It's not always the amount of skin being shown. It can be the way the skin is being shown. The two things we can say with confidence on this discussion of modesty, that we feel like Scripture speaks to, are: #1 - We should have a heart to desire it. God desires it. We should be growing and maturing in this area. It shouldn't be how much can we get away with, but more so how do we glorify God? Ultimately, we were created to glorify Him. I Corinthians 10:31 - “Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.” What is our main motivation when we are putting on these clothes and going out in public? #2 - A man's perspective has to come into play and into the modesty conversation. Not any man, but a father or husband who loves the Lord and is surrendered to Him. We feel like that is a big piece of the modesty conversation that is missing. Ephesian 5:23 - “ For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body.” I Corinthians 6:19-20 - “What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's." In this session from An Interesting Conference on Sexuality hosted by Jonathon Foster along with Tom Oord, we hear from Elaine Padilla, an author and a professor of Philosophy and Religion, Latinx/Latin American Studies at LaVerne University. She's super interesting and I love what she talks about in her video. I will not soon forget the phrase she uses here, "the immodesty of love." Find some of Elaine's scholarly work at researchgate.net/profile/Elaine-Padilla.

OF MODESTY AND MENIn the first of a 2 part series Sandy and Elisabeth sit down with their husbands to get a male perspective on modesty, lust and purity. In this interview style episode the men talk about what they were raised to believe, how those views have changed over time and what we need to teach the next generation about these topics.INTRODUCTIONSDavid is Sandy's husband of 11 years. They have 2 children together, he has two adult children and he has two children in Heaven. He is a self-described "Christian mutt" as he was born into the Lutheran church, baptized in a Baptist church and attended Charismatic and Pentecostal churches with his family along with attending Catholic school for most of his education before settling into non-denominational churches in adulthood. In his professional life he is a manager in Information Technology, in his internet life he is the host of the Shooter's Nation Podcast and in his personal life he is a perpetual student of leadership, safety and self-defense.John is Elisabeth's husband of 8 years. They have 1 child together. He was raised primarily in the Baptist church. He felt abandoned by the church after his father passed away at a young age and spent a few years away from it before God called him back to the church. In his professional life he is in Information Technology, in his internet and personal life he is a self professed D&D nerd.DISCUSSION TOPICThis discussion was initiated because of a pastor who tweeted the following: "Your seasonal reminder, 'Women should adorn themselves in respectable apparel with modesty and self-control.' 1 Timothy 2:9. Leggings are underwear not outerwear, wear them properly." This was follow up to his tweet: "Leggings aren't pants. Wear pants. Leave the leggings at home." basically admonishing women for wearing leggings and yoga pants in public because he deems them immodest. He also defended his tweets saying that he was a shepherd shepherding his sheep.MODESTY, PURITY AND LUST OH MYWhen asked what they thought about these words here were the responses:Modesty: BehaviorPurity: ThoughtsLust: DwellingModesty has more to do with the behavior of the person wearing the clothes then it does with the clothes the person is wearing. Purity has more to do with a persons thoughts and motives. Lust is the act of dwelling and fixating on impure thoughts and is a sin.Modesty does not equal pure thought. Immodesty does not equal impure thoughts. The burden of purity falls to the person doing the thinking. You are in control of your actions and your thoughts and what a person does or doesn't wear is completely irrelevant to how you handle yourself.Placing the burden of controlling mens lust on the clothing of women is just an excuse to sin.Blaming someone else for your thoughts or actions is weak.TRAIN THEM UPWhat should we teach our sons? You are capable of controlling your thoughts and keeping yourself from dwelling on and living in those thoughts. You always have a choice to remove yourself from a situation. You may have to sacrifice something to do it but you always have a choice. Follow Christ's example and subject your thoughts to the same control that you would subject your body.What should we teach our daughters? Expect respect and not settle for anything less than that. Don't allow yourself to be treated as an object of someone's sexual fantasies. Don't settle for a guy that treats you like a possession and hides you away from the rest of the world but expects you to be the object of his sexual desires behind closed doors.CONNECT WITH US AFTER THE SHOW:Questions, Show ideas, Want to be a Guest or Sponsor an episode? Does God really care about what we wear? Can our choice of clothing really affect our gospel witness? Yes. Modesty is humility expressed in dress. Immodesty is rooted in a prideful desire for attention and perhaps even to allure. The Gospel should have a direct affect on our wardrobe. We should learn, as one author has said, to "take God to the Gap."
