The FAN Morning Show goes into its final hour of Wednesday with the focus fully on hockey. Ben Ennis & Brent Gunning re-set on the Maple Leafs and the news that netminder Anthony Stolarz is week-to-week; out for four to six. Was there an expected drop off in his play anyways this season or could he be a legit Vezina candidate this season? The hosting duo discuss before bring on Sportsnet's own David Amber (6:16) who will host Wednesday Night Hockey on the network that features the Leafs and Stars. The trio tee up the match-up as well as look around the League and at the current standings to say what surprises them. They particularly focus on some of the struggling squads headlined of course by the Sabres but also includes the Islanders & Rangers. Which New York team is most likely to turn it around and could either of the latter two be playoff problems if they get in. The morning pair keep the Leafs talk going with reporter Luke Fox of Sportsnet (26:06). The trio set up tonight's game in Dallas, delve into the Stolarz news and where it leaves the team with goaltending heading into the holidays as well as the new look lines of the Leafs and why they are afforded the luxury of it right now. B&B can't let Luke go without getting his take on the story of the League right now: the spiralling Buffalo Sabres. The views and opinions expressed in this podcast are those of the hosts and guests and do not necessarily reflect the position of Rogers Sports & Media or any affiliate.

The Masters starts tomorrow and Boomer wonders if Gio's made his picks for the various pools he's in. Somehow we got on bizarre sports moments and Boomer brought up Antonio Brown taking off his jersey and shoulder pads and just quitting at MetLife Stadium. We then talked about Tyson biting Holyfield's ear and Randy Johnson killing the bird. Jerry returns for his final update of the day and starts with the Knicks beating the Bulls in Chicago last night. The Yankees beat the Marlins as Alex Verdugo homered. Mike Francesa has had enough of the eclipse talk. The Mets lost to the Braves 6-5. The Islanders beat the Rangers with Boomer in the house. There was a controversial ‘vicious' hit. Be careful who you bet in the Masters as two golfers have wives that may go into labor during the tournament. The Moment of The Day involves Boomer battling the Islanders callers after they beat the Rangers last night. In the final segment of the show, Peter Schwartz and Shaun Morash were battling on Twitter about the Islanders/Rangers game.
Hour 1 Boomer was at UBS Arena last night with the family as his Rangers lost to the Islanders. Late in the game, Vincent Trocheck was hit from behind and there was no call. Boomer said we will see you Saturday at the Garden where it will be payback time for that. Jerry is here for his first update and starts with the sounds of Islanders beating the Rangers. We talked about the controversial hit on Trocheck. Jalen Brunson scored 45 as the Knicks beat the Bulls. The Yankees won again and Verdugo hit another HR and he talked about it. The Yanks have now started 10-2. The Mets lost to the Braves 6-5. They were down 6-0 at one point. John Calipari released a video talking about his time at Kentucky. Boomer said Scott Drew of Baylor will wind up at Kentucky. In the final segment of the hour, a caller is sick of Boomer crying all morning about the Rangers loss to the Islanders. Hour 2 Gio thinks the Yankees are going to have an incredible year. Every other time they've started 10-2, they have gone to the World Series. It has happened 3 times prior to this. Gio said it's a lock that they are going. If the Mets are out of it before the trade deadline they have to trade Pete Alonso. Gio thinks Carlos Mendoza and the Mets took a moral victory last night because they fought back even though they didn't win. Boomer keeps comparing every topic to the Rangers. JD Martinez had to get a cortisone shot and will not pick up a bat for another 3-5 days. Jerry returns for an update and starts with the sounds from last night's Yankees win against the Marlins. The Mets were down 6-0 to the Braves and eventually lost 6-5. There was also a controversial hit in the Rangers/Islanders game. In the final segment of the hour, the Lakers finally fixed all the misspellings on the Kobe Bryant statue. A caller wonders if in the playoffs, would Boomer consider putting his granddaughter's Islanders jersey in the freezer. We also wondered what the Boomer statue is going to look like. Hour 3 Boomer went to UBS Arena last night and said it's chaos leaving that place. The Cross Island Parkway is like the Indy 500. Boomer listened to John Batchelor on WOR about fiscal policy or something. A caller said the Islanders may have won the game, but they got outplayed 2 of the 3 periods. A caller said Gilbert Arenas said people don't want to play in NY because of the media. Stephen A. Smith was hyping up Grimes on the Knicks. Unfortunately he doesn't play there anymore. We also talked about LIV and the Ryder Cup. Jerry returns for an update and starts with the sounds of last night's Knicks win over Chicago. Giannis was injured last night but the MRI came back clean. A caller wanted to talk to ‘butthurt Boomer'. The Yankees keep winning and the Marlins keep losing. Alex Verdugo hit a home run and was barking in the dugout after. The Mets lost in Atlanta as Alonso struck out to end the game. He hit a homer earlier. In the final segment of the hour, Eddie is wearing an old shirt from Taz that references ‘yambag'. We weren't sure what that meant, so we looked it up on urban dictionary. A caller said Sal said the Yankees winning isn't sustainable and it's pissing him off. Hour 4 The Masters starts tomorrow and Boomer wonders if Gio's made his picks for the various pools he's in. The Moment of The Day involves Boomer battling the Islanders callers after they beat the Rangers last night. In the final segment of the show, Peter Schwartz and Shaun Morash were battling on Twitter about the Islanders/Rangers game.

E and T Short: Do Rangers fans want the Islanders in the first round?
In today's podcast: John discusses the good and the bad from NBA All-Star Weekend, featuring the highly-anticipated 3-point shooting contest between Stephen Curry and Sabrina Ionescu, how much pressure is on the Boston Celtics to win this year, which teams from the Western Conference can go to the NBA Finals this year, what the Milwaukee Bucks really need to fix to get back into contention in the East, the Islanders-Rangers game at MetLife lives up to the hype, the strength of the Big 12 and SEC this season in men's college hoops, and the teams to watch for to make a run at a championship this season, and John picks over/unders for all 30 teams in Major League Baseball with spring training games beginning on Thursday.
Hour 1 Jerry is in for Boomer so it's Gio & Jerry today. We start with the fact that we are never going to get the audio from the Andy Reid/Travis Kelce sideline argument. Inside The NFL did not show it, they just glossed right over it. Gio said if it was George Kittle and Kyle Shanahan, we would have seen and heard the audio. The NY Post hired a lip reader who claimed Kelce said, ‘hey c'mon you F'er, put me on'. Why is the NFL keeping the audio from their audience? The NFL seems to be protecting Taylor Swift's boyfriend. C-Lo is here for his first update and starts with Aaron Judge meeting the media and talking about his toe. Judge also thinks the Yankees could make another move in getting another player. In the final segment of the hour, Jaromir Jagr was honored in Pittsburgh and he talked about his girlfriend being too young to remember he played there. She is 29, he is 52. Hour 2 We continued talking about Jaromir Jagr and the time a woman tried to extort him by taking a pic of herself in bed with him, and he was like, just post the pic. Gio also wondered why, when celebrity penis pics emerge, they are always large. And yet, we know what the average size really is. Also, does penis size make you more or less confident? Gio said when he was younger he and his friends would talk about donating sperm for cash. Gio said he would have regretted doing that since you would have kids running around. Eddie said that would not bother him at all since they are not ‘his kids'. C-Lo returns for an update but first we took a call from a guy whose life is spiraling right now. I mean, you wouldn't believe it. C-Lo has audio from the Yankees at spring training. Sean Marks also talked about Kevin Ollie and firing Jacque Vaughn. Gio thinks Marks is gone at the end of this season. In the final segment of the hour, a family tried to go to the Islanders/Rangers game at MetLife, but his tickets were already scanned. Gio bought a fake ticket to the Aaron Boone Game. Hour 3 The ratings for the NBA All Star Game were actually up this year. Gio thinks the all star games get talked about because nothing else is going on in sports at the time, so talk show hosts talk about how bad the games are. But the reality is, if you like it, you watch it. If you don't, you don't. Gio thinks it's just because there's nothing else going on that it seems like it's a big deal. Gio said kids love watching the all star game festivities. It's the older generation that hates it and complains about it because it isn't like it was when they were kids. A caller has a great Billy Joel ticket scalping story. C-Lo returns for an update and starts with Rafael Devers of the Red Sox calling out the front office for not getting enough players. We got an update on Lenny Dykstra's health after the stroke: he's surrounded by ‘hot nurses'. Jameis Winston was on Pardon My Take to talk about Mike Evans and people who grow up around water. In the final segment of the hour, Chris McMonigle is co-hosting with BT today. A 41-year old man calls in who just found out from 23 And Me that his dad is not his dad. Hour 4 Neuralink has been implanted into the first person. Gio wonders what they had to pay that person to be first. C-Lo returns for his final update of the day and he plays audio of an update guy making his first appearance with Mike Francesa back in the day. Charles Barkley talked about hating Skip Bayless so much. He also hates San Francisco. The Moment of The Day involves sperm donation and what if Eddie fathered kids. In the final segment of the hour, we play audio from a 25 year old Gio, while working with Steve Somers, messing with Bill the baker.
We continued talking about Jaromir Jagr and the time a woman tried to extort him by taking a pic of herself in bed with him, and he was like, just post the pic. (40:05)
You'd be hard pressed to find a podcast that has all of the below as I deliver everything that's happening in sports. On deck: (2:59) I still can't wrap my head around a player in professional team sports, signing a contract for $700 million dollars. That's what the Dodgers paid prized free agent, Shohei Ohtani over the next ten years. I'll break down was this deal worth it? Is he worth it? Will he live up to it? There's so much to unpack when it comes to a record breaking signing like this, with the magnitude and ramifications that come along with it. (16:17) There are four more weeks left of the NFL regular season. As we come down the homestretch, the possibility of intrigue and drama is forthcoming. The first storyline of yesterday is the Chiefs losing when it looked like they would've had an enormous win, but an offsides on the offense overturned a late touchdown lateral from Travis Kelce, has the Chiefs headed into a postseason which will lead them on the road for the first time in the Andy Reid-Patrick Mahomes era. Then there are the Eagles. They've been scuffling the last couple of weeks as they were beaten by the Cowboys last night in a 30-13 loss and have dropped from the #1 seed in the conference to #5 as of today. What does this mean for the defending NFC champs as they try to regroup and make a push back up the standings? It's a log jam in the middle of both conferences as they jockey for playoff positioning as I'll uncover all that happened in the league yesterday, bring you up to speed on the latest in the sport as the intensity will ratchet up as we get through the back half of the NFL schedule. (42:45) I'll mention another big win by Army as they had a goal line stand to stave off Navy in the closing seconds of their game on Saturday. Your Heisman Trophy winner of 2023 is LSU QB Jayden Daniels beating out Michael Penix Jr. for the best player in college football. (44:39) The Inaugural NBA In-Season Tournament and Cup Final is in the books. From my experience, it was lackluster and didn't generate a whole lot of buzz and attention as the Lakers are the first ever to win in this type of setting. Is this meaningful for an organization that's all about championships in June than December? Now we can move on with the season as the Christmas schedule is on the horizon and the return of Grizzlies guard, Ja Morant as he's scheduled to come back in about ten days or so. Will they rebound from a dreadful start? Or will they continue to play below average? (52:55) On the ice, the Los Angeles Kings NHL record road winning streak at 11 games went by the wayside in New York over the weekend with losses to the Islanders & Rangers. Also, former Kings goalie Jonathan Quick played against his former team last night for the first time as the latter NY team won 4-1. Plus, all else that's happening throughout the league (including one time NHL player, Tony Granato fighting cancer) as I'll discuss some recent surprises and disappointments over the past week. (56:46) I'll send well wishes out to tennis great, Chris Evert, as she's battling cancer for a second go round. (57:32) The latest player to make the jump to the LIV Golf League is #3 player in the world, Jon Rahm. Is there a lot of concern on the PGA side as they lose out on another key figure in the sport? Will both the PGA & LIV hammer out a deal to join forces before the end of the year? Does anyone care? Why the Philadelphia 76ers haven't impressed him yet as they appear to face the Miami Heat in the 2nd round in the NBA playoffs, and who is under the most pressure to elevate their game in a potential Sixers-Heat series. The Milwaukee Bucks' performance over the weekend with respect to team culture is why they're the most trusted team in the Eastern Conference. The Denver Nuggets' championship dream was dead all along, and the Golden State Warriors should be a favorite to win a title this season. John gives three NFL draft takes, one each on the wide receiver market in the draft, who should trade up to get one of the “Big Four” wideouts available this year, why the Seattle Seahawks should trade up for a second first round pick, and why the Dallas Cowboys should trade out of the first round. Who has been the most disappointing team in the National Hockey League this year, and who might be the scariest team to play in the Stanley Cup playoffs? There are lots of baseball news to discuss too, about umpire Angel Hernandez, Miguel Cabrera's 3,000th hit, why the best teams in baseball are the best, how invaluable Byron Buxton is to the Minnesota Twins, and more.
Hockey Hall of Famer and four-time Stanley Cup Champion Mike Bossy sat down with Greg and Cory in January of 2020 prior to an Islanders-Rangers game at Madison Square Garden. Mike shares stories about being drafted by the Islanders (3:09), learning from Al Arbour (7:27), negotiating a rookie-contract with Bill Torrey (9:30), the '82 playoffs (15:08), scoring 50 goals in 50 games (17:45), his relationship with Bryan Trottier (20:26), Clark Gillies (21:28) and more.

Mike presents a list of wintertime comfort foods. He starts off with black olive bagels with roasted tomatoes and it goes downhill from there. And which came first, the chicken or the waffle? Moving forward, Mike talks about the epic NFL weekend and the suddenly rolling Bruins. Our Fight Club guest today is the highly opinionated and excitable PJ Stock, a tough guy and fan favorite wherever he played in his NHL career. PJ blames Mike for inciting a brawl in an Islanders-Rangers game and also says it was Mike's fault that he became a fighter. Sammy P has the NFC and AFC championship game odds and a new betting favorite for the Vezina Trophy. And to close things out, I've got a hat trick of whacky airline stories.
Hour 2: It took about an hour for Craig to change his mind on wanting Buck Showalter to manager the Mets. The rescheduling of Islanders Rangers led to 5 minutes of Craig trolling Islander fans. Does this mean Craig may shift his allegiance? Craig and Evan debate the difference between the tweets that a team sends out from their official account and those of Jets owner Woody Johnson. December 3, 2018 - In this episode, our time machine turns Zamboni and hits the ice for the greatest fanned shot in sports marketing history, when the New York Islanders -- a decade removed from their four-in-a-row Stanley Cup dynasty of the early '80s -- chose a new mascot that resembled nothing so much as frozen food pitchman The Gorton's Fisherman. Joining us to do color commentary is our friend Nicholas Hirshon who brings us We Want Fish Sticks: The Bizarre and Infamous Rebranding of the New York Islanders. We last heard from Nick when he invited me to conduct a live interview at the Joint Journalism and Communication History Conference at NYU's Arthur L. Carter Journalism Institute. Our guest that day was Ephemeral New York's Esther Crain who chatted with us about her book, The Gilded Age in New York, 1870-1910. Nick Hirshon is assistant professor of communication at William Paterson University and a former reporter for the New York Daily News. You've seen his work in the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, and the Hockey News. His previous books are Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum -- the arena where the Islanders built that dynasty -- and Forest Hills, about his Long Island hometown, with a forward by actor Ray Romano. Visit him online at NickHirshon.com, @NickHirshon on Twitter and Instagram, or Facebook.com/NHirshon. You meet Nick and talk hockey at these author events... We are back with another episode, Episode 15 - and this time we sat down for a chat with the Author of the soon-to-be-released book "We Want Fishsticks", Nick Hirshon. Before I get into the book talk, I offer a rundown of all the games over the Thanksgiving break and some hard hitting analysis as always. I got pretty amped up this week, as the Islanders powerplay is fair to middling - to say the least. Nick isn't just an author, he's a college professor who wrote his college thesis on - the Islanders, but he's also obviously a huge New York Islanders fan. I reached out to Nick after seeing some promo work on his book via Twitter and we got to talking. Obviously, I invited him here and thankfully he obliged. Like all my guests, we talked about current and past Islanders related topics, the vintage Fisherman jersey we have all come to know and love (well, some of us anyway) and even about arenas and ownership. It was a conversation I thoroughly enjoyed and as it turned out, I learned quite a bit about a few things. Did you know that the fisherman on the crest is modeled after one of the Baymen out here in East Hampton? I didn't know that. In fact, Nick and I talked about all that after recording, in an unfortunate twist of fate - because I am related to one of the oldest fishing families on the east end. Nick did a lot of the research for his book, and the fishermen - right here in my local library. He will be out here again in January for a book signing and we have plans to meet up in person. I'm looking forward to it. Another quick coincidence - the Islanders, today actually, posted that the fisherman jersey is available for purchase and customization RIGHT NOW via their online store. It's something I will be jumping on as well. Fashion comes in
