With modern medicine comes controversial questions. Today we're talking about sperm donation and artificial insemination. Is it wrong for Christians to do? Is there sexual sin involved? Are there any differences between these options and IVF?In today's episode, Pastor Derek and Pastor Jackie talk through a listener question around the nature of sperm donation and artificial insemination to get an idea if either of these options would be appropriate for a Christian to consider. We look at the different circumstances in which they are used and the morality of how sperm is donated and the impact on the mother and the eventual children. Our hope is that as you listen, you would have an open mind to what God says about the topic of pregnancy and fertility and what the best options may be if you ever find yourself looking into this as an option. The 17:17 podcast is a ministry of Roseville Baptist Church (MN) that seeks to tackle cultural issues and societal questions from a biblical worldview so that listeners discover what the Bible has to say about the key issues they face on a daily basis. On today's episode, Ali interviews Kristin Duncan, a single mom by choice, about the journey to having her 2 1/2 year old son, Blake. Kristin explains why she made the decision to have a kiddo on her own and talks us through the entire process, from having a "sperm donor choosing party" with her sisters to finding out she had stage two silent endometriosis (but no symptoms). She talks about connecting with others in the single mom by choice community, and says, "In the single mother by choice community, you don't find a lot of people who regret going ahead and having a baby on their own. The most surprising thing was just that everyone was so happy with their decision." She talks about the pros and cons of doing it solo, gaining 40 pounds from taking the fertility meds, and how everything was "insanely expensive." She also talks about having her son, and later, embarking on the journey to have another child, which has so far included two failed egg donors. Lahl couples her 25 years of experience as a pediatric critical care nurse, a hospital administrator, and a senior-level nursing manager with a deep passion to speak up for those who have no voice.Women are often sold on surrogacy, IVF, and sperm donation as either a beautiful way to help a family in need or the best solution to their fertility issues. The problems with the solutions Big Fertility pushes extend beyond a lack of informed consent; there are not only significant medical risks for moms and their future children (which are often downplayed or not mentioned at all) as well as bioethical concerns which many have never even considered until well after consenting to one of these reproduction methods. If we continue on this transhumanist trajectory, we can expect so see the normalization and encouragement of artificial eggs and wombs. On the bright side, the tides are turning. Countries are waking up to the harms of some of these practices and setting firm boundaries to protect women and children. Some countries, like America, unfortunately still operate like the Wild West and put the wellbeing of mothers and children last at the expense of the desires of intended parents. In this Join the Docs episode, the ever-charismatic Professor Jonathan Sackier and the delightfully witty Doctor Nigel Guest dive headfirst into a rollicking discussion about the medical marvels of various body parts. Picture this: a room filled with laughter as they dissect (pun intended) the critical importance of blood and organ donation, weaving in tales of heroic donors and miraculous recoveries. So, what are the ethics of organ donation? The Docs debate the merits of donating your earthly vessel to science versus becoming a mummy in a museum. And just when you think it can't get any more fascinating, they plunge into the world of umbilical cord blood and placenta, painting vivid pictures of these often-overlooked biological treasures. It's a labour of love, quite literally!Hold onto your seats as the discussion gets a bit cheeky with sperm and eggs, where The Docs' playful banter about the birds and the bees will have you in stitches. And just when you think the episode has reached its peak, they introduce the pièce de résistance: faecal transplants. Yes, you heard that right. A recent Netflix documentary, The Man With A 1000 Kids, has shone a light on the often under-discussed topic of sperm donation. It exposes a Dutch man as a prolific and deceptive sperm donor who compulsively fathers children around the world via donated sperm. While an extreme case, it raises important questions about the ethics of bringing children into the world via sperm (or indeed egg) donation. Do we pay enough heed to the feelings and challenges faced by donor-conceived children in our understandable urge to help infertile couples have their miracle baby? Is donating sperm really any different to any other kind of organ donation, or should Christians oppose this kind of reproductive technology? We also consider new research on the enormous numbers of frozen embryos generated via IVF treatment which we in the UK are stockpiling without any clear idea of who or what we think they are, let alone what we will do with them. • Who Am I, the book about donor-conceived children https://www.cmf.org.uk/resources/publications/content/?context=article&id=2159 • Subscribe to the Matters of Life and Death podcast: https://pod.link/1509923173 • If you want to go deeper into some of the topics we discuss, visit John's website: http://www.johnwyatt.com • For more resources to help you explore faith and the big questions, visit: http://www.premierunbelievable.com
Susie describes two documentaries about the complexities, risks, and problems with sperm donation, and explains why some men are trying to father as many children as possible and how the mothers and babies are the ones who experience the consequences. We learn about a "protest" in Boston where people fought for the metro system to put googly eyes on buses, and the unexpected outcome they caused. Mattel is making their games color-blind accessible, so now everyone can experience the joy of screaming UNO! Susie finds out the true story of cocaine being in the original Coca-Cola recipe, how it happened, and the racist reasons for why it was removed. We hear about a documentary on the Columbine tragedy, and why the mother of one of the shooters is speaking out about mental health, parenting, and violence. We find out which player is supposedly depicted in the NBA logo, why it is controversial, and why it's still mysterious after all these years. Life coaches are getting rich consulting people on how to get their ex back, and Sarah is not happy about it. Plus, we hear why scientists think elephants call each other by name.Listen to more podcasts like this: https://wavepodcastnetwork.comJoin our Candy Club, shop our merch, sign-up for our free newsletter, & more by visiting The Brain Candy Podcast website: https://www.thebraincandypodcast.comConnect with us on social media:BCP Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/braincandypodcastSusie's Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/susiemeisterSarah's Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/imsarahriceBCP on X: https://www.x.com/braincandypodSponsors:Get $30 off the first box - PLUS free Croissants in every box - when you go to https://wildgrain.com/BRAINCANDY to start your subscription.Go to https://paireyewear.com and use code BCP for 15% off your first pair.Get 15% off @OakEssentials with the code BRAINCANDY15 at https://oakessentials.com/BRAINCANDY15. #oakessentialspartnerSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

A new series was released this week on Netflix. It is called Man with 1,000 Kids, and Netflix is billing it as the true story of Jonathan Meijer, a man accused of travelling the world, deceiving women into having his babies - via sperm donation - on a mass scale. Nuala McGovern talks to Jonathan Meijer, the sperm donor, to mums Natalie and Suzanne, who had a baby conceived with Jonathan's donor sperm, to Natalie Hill, the executive producer who pitched the original idea for these films to Netflix and to Rachel Cutting, director of compliance and information at the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority (HFEA), the UK's independent regulator of fertility treatment.Gabby Logan joins Krupa Padhy to talk about her new book The Midpoint Plan. She's challenging the stereotype of middle age. With fewer insecurities, children leaving home and perhaps a bit more money in the bank, she believes we should see it as the best point in our lives. Plus, if we look after ourselves in midlife, we'll be happier in old age.Summer is here, which means it's wedding season, and brides-to-be across the country are asking themselves the eternal question: what do I wear for the occasion? Kathryn Wheeler, who married earlier this year, decided to do something that old superstitions advice against: make her own wedding dress. In the process, she learned much more than just sewing skills. She also learned a life lesson, to embrace imperfections. It's 25 year since the New York Times' best-selling author Lisa Jewell published her first novel, Ralph's Party. Since then she's written another twenty-one novels, and more recently a number of dark psychological thrillers, including Then She Was Gone, The Family Upstairs and the award winning None of This is True. She joins Krupa Padhy to discuss her latest work – Breaking the Dark – which is a Jessica Jones Marvel crime novel, exploring the world of the private detective and former superhero. By the time she was 19, Michelle De Swarte had gone from a council estate in London to the catwalks of Manhattan. Her twenties were a swirl of parties and high end glamour but by her thirties she was broke and in need - as she once put it - of a “new personality”. Desperate to find a way out of fashion, she reinvented herself as a stand-up comedian. Michelle De Swarte joins Nuala to talk about putting some of her own experiences into a new BBC comedy, Spent.Presenter: Krupa Padhy Producer: Annette Wells Editor: Rebecca Myatt

Hyper-masculine marketing, highly technical jargon and anxieties around running out of charge are just some of the reasons they give on why women feel excluded from making the switch to electric vehicles. Nuala talks to Erin Baker, who is the editorial director at AutoTrader and author of the report. It's 150 years since the first Impressionist exhibition was held in Paris in 1874. The artists involved included Monet, Renoir, Degas, Morisot, Pissarro, Sisley and Cézanne, and just one female artist was included in that first exhibition, Berthe Morisot. But women artists were involved with Impressionism, and 150 years on, the National Gallery of Ireland is holding an exhibition to put their work front and centre. The director, Caroline Campbell, joins Nuala McGovern to talk about the exhibition, Women Impressionists, and the four female pioneers who were integral to the artistic movement.Presenter: Nuala McGovern Producer: Laura Northedge

Lance Oppenheim, director of FX's “SPERMWORLD,” a documentary produced by The New York Times and Edgeline Films, and inspired by the Times' article “The Sperm Kings Have a Problem: Too Much Demand” by Nellie Bowles. “SPERMWORLD” is a road movie set inside the new wild west of baby making – online forums where sperm donors connect with hopeful parents. Against the landscape of roadside motels, abandoned shopping malls and suburban bathrooms across the country, the film follows intimate encounters between donors and recipients as they exchange more than just genetic material. “SPERMWORLD” examines how our fantasies about partnership and parenthood shape our deepest desires. What emerges is an incisive portrait of the search for human connection in an increasingly alienating world. We continued talking about Jaromir Jagr and the time a woman tried to extort him by taking a pic of herself in bed with him, and he was like, just post the pic. Gio also wondered why, when celebrity penis pics emerge, they are always large. And yet, we know what the average size really is. Also, does penis size make you more or less confident? Gio said when he was younger he and his friends would talk about donating sperm for cash. Gio said he would have regretted doing that since you would have kids running around. Eddie said that would not bother him at all since they are not ‘his kids'. C-Lo returns for an update but first we took a call from a guy whose life is spiraling right now. I mean, you wouldn't believe it. C-Lo has audio from the Yankees at spring training. Sean Marks also talked about Kevin Ollie and firing Jacque Vaughn. Gio thinks Marks is gone at the end of this season. In the final segment of the hour, a family tried to go to the Islanders/Rangers game at MetLife, but his tickets were already scanned. Gio bought a fake ticket to the Aaron Boone Game.
