James Perry is the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints' Area History Manager for Northern Europe, he was a historian and editor on previous volumes of 'Saints' - a narrative history of the Church. He was the general editor of the fourth and final volume of 'Saints.'I wanted to speak to James about his experience joining the Church as a young adult and becoming enamoured with the Church's history. I also wanted to discuss the fourth volume of Saints because it covers from 1955-2020 - so it seems less of a history and more of a deeper dive into the lives of members who are still living and leaders who we can get to know better. Some highlights from this episode include James's favourite stories from the fourth volume of 'Saints', what James would say to those who can't see the beauty and richness of Church history, and why everyone should read the new volume of 'Saints.'--The fourth volume of 'Saints: Sounded In Every Ear' will be released on October 29th. You can read it for free on the Gospel Library app or buy a physical copy.Follow For All The Saints on social media for updates and inspiring content:www.instagram.com/forallthesaintspodhttps://www.facebook.com/forallthesaintspod/For All The Saints episodes are released every Monday on YouTube, Spotify, Apple Podcasts and more:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TVDUQg_qZIU&list=UULFFf7vzrJ2LNWmp1Kl-c6K9Qhttps://open.spotify.com/show/3j64txm9qbGVVZOM48P4HS?si=bb31d048e05141f2https://podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/for-all-the-saints/id1703815271If you have feedback or any suggestions for topics or guests, connect with Ben & Sean via hello@forallthesaints.org or DM on InstagramConversations to Refresh Your Faith. For All The Saints podcast was established in 2023 by Ben Hancock to express his passion and desire for more dialogue around faith, religious belief, and believers' perspectives on the topics of our day. On June 28, 1914, Archduke of Austria-Hungary, Franz Ferdinand and his wife Sophie were shot dead by a Serbian assassin. At the time, nobody suspected that this murder had lit the fuse to a global conflagration, a cataclysm that would sweep up nations, empires, and peoples. Among those swept up in the First World War were the Latter-day Saints, whose members made up congregations throughout the United States, Canada, Britain, and Germany. What was it like for Latter-day Saints in the Great War? What was it like for the Soldiers of the belligerent nations to enlist, to train, to fight? How did Latter-day Saints fare in the trenches? What was it like for the Mormon people on the home front? And for those who survived, how did they make sense of what they lived through? We will explore that and more in this, our third season. This first episode discusses the causes of the Great War, the desire of Latter-day Saints to prove their loyalty to their countries, and early recruiting efforts in Alberta, Canada among Latter-day Saints, William Kessler's decision to enlist in the German Army and fight for the Kaiser, the early shows of support for Germany from the LDS German community in Salt Lake City. James Perry of Utilis joins us to discuss Synthetic Aperture Radar and its many and varied applications in the water sector. James provides a wealth of information about how the technology developed to its cost-effective use and application in the water sector. Plus, Reese Tisdale of Bluefield Research provides more water industry insights on the California drought and how utilities are bringing climate adaptation experience learned in California to other regions of the United States. In this session, you'll learn about: Jim's background in big public companies and start-ups What synthetic aperture radar (SAR) is How SAR works How SAR can find the “underground signature” of water How SAR mapping can help identify where leaks occur in a water system The types of leaks SAR mapping can identify, from slow drips to large main breaks How SAR mapping allows system surveys to allow utilities to target problem leak areas Utilis' experience as to where the infrastructure is leaking (mains, service lines, meters, hydrants, valves, etc. – the answer might surprise you) Additional uses for SAR like alternative supply locations, soil moisture monitoring, earthen dam monitoring, wastewater leakage, and much more How utilities using SAR experience a 6 month ROI Resources and links mentioned in or relevant to this session include: James' LinkedIn Page Utilis' website TWV #175: Climate Change Planning and Adaptation with Jim Schlaman TWV #139: Groundwater Depletion and Water Conflict with Jay Famiglietti Thank You!
