The gang is all back together! Jess and Ian are back from time off and we thank Anders and Chris Crawford for holding down the fort. We discuss the travel fiascos and wedding happiness. Ian went to the Mariners game yesterday and noticed how many Astros fans were in the stands. Happy for the win!   The Mariners host the Angels tonight and the Astros play the A's. The Mariners have what looks like an easy schedule over the next two series, so what's an acceptable outcome?   The CW has it's new broadcast crew and Ian sees it as a retread of the Pac-12 Network.   Mollywhop Monday! Chris Crawford and Nathan Bishop join Ian to discuss the Mariners' standings right now. Jorge Polanco has been on the upswing, will that continue? What is reasonable for an expectation for the next two series?   Mollywhop Monday continues with Chris Crawford and Nathan Bishop! What do we make of the Ty France move?   The Mariners did make a move, bringing up Jason Vosler - so what does this tell us about potential moves?   What's next for the TNT basketball broadcast and will fans be deprived of the best show on earth? Plus, who is actually a starter on the Seahawks of the young group next season?

The story of the 2023 San Francisco Giants offense so far has been pretty simple: strikeouts, walks, and homers. Those are what's known as the "three true outcomes," but will that be a defining characteristic for the SF Giants all season? It's too early to tell, and one thing is certain: they won't keep striking out at this high of a rate.Players like Michael Conforto and Joc Pederson, each striking out about 40% of the time despite career K rates of around 24%, are skewing the numbers and are certain to make more contact as they continue to get at-bats. The Giants also have high-contact players such as Wilmer Flores and Thairo Estrada on the roster. They're certainly a power and patience team, but don't expect this many strikeouts moving forward.Getting to other mailbag questions:  Is there any chance we see Gary Sanchez on the Major League roster? Do you think the Giants made a mistake letting go of Jason Vosler? When Joey Bart, Mitch Haniger, and Austin Slater return it's almost certain that Matt Beaty goes down. Who are the other two players you project to be removed from the 26-man roster? Jo Adell for Joey Bart? Both guys could probably use a change of scenery. Do you think David Villar is being slept on? Career 125 OPS+ in the majors but it feels like he's not appreciated by a lot of fans.Find and follow Locked On Giants on your favorite podcast platforms:

Sanogo had 17 points and 10 rebounds for the Huskies, who became the fifth team since the bracket expanded in 1985 to win all six NCAA Tournament games by double-digits on the way to a championship. UConn built a 16-point lead late in the first half, then held on for a wild ride down the stretch. The Aztecs trimmed the lead to five with 5:19 left, but Jordan Hawkins answered with a 3 to trigger a 9-0 run and put the game out of reach. Keshad Johnson led San Diego State with 14 points.  Sanogo was named the most outstanding player of the tournament. NCAAMBKB – Ex-Hoosiers coach Bob Knight out of hospital, son says Former Indiana Hoosiers coach Bob Knight has been released from a hospital in Bloomington, Indiana. His son, Pat Knight, says he returned home after he was admitted with an illness over the weekend. Pat Knight issued a statement thanking people for their thoughts and prayers while asking them to respect the family’s privacy. The 82-year-old Knight won three national championships at Indiana before he was fired in September 2000 after grabbing a student by the arm in violation of the school’s zero-tolerance policy. He was hired by Texas Tech in 2001 and retired in 2012 with a then-Division I record 899 career wins. NCAAMBKB – Jim Nantz bids a fond farewell to March Madness Jim Nantz could fill an evening weaving tales of the great games and buzzer-beaters he's had the privilege to call over a storytelling career that made his the voice of March Madness for nearly four decades. But when asked about his favorite moments as he prepared for the 354th and final game of that journey, he wanted to talk about underdogs. It’s the teams that don’t get much time in the limelight that Nantz works overtime for. He wants to tell their stories the right way. It makes this year’s Final Four a fitting time to go out. It was filled with teams nobody expected. A storyteller’s paradise, Nantz called it. Even though this is it for basketball, the 63-year-old broadcaster will stay on CBS for golf and football coverage. Detroit wasted a 4-0 lead but Riley Greene's seventh-inning homer off Bryan Abreu put the Tigers ahead 5-4. Vierling's backhand grab in right on Maurico Dubon's two-out liner stopped Houston's four-run rally in the fifth. After Houston tied the score with two outs in the ninth, Vierling homered in the 11th off Héctor Neris. Reds 7, Cubs 6 – Vosler’s three-run blast lifts Reds past Cubs 7-6 Jason Vosler, a non-roster invitee to spring training, hit a go-ahead three-run home run, his second of the season, as the Cincinnati Reds held off the Chicago Cubs 7-6. Cody Bellinger collected his first hit as a Cub: a three-run home run in the first. Derek Law stranded the tying and go-ahead runners in the ninth to earn his first save since 2019. Alex Young (1-0) got the win. Drew Smyly (0-1) took the loss for Chicago.  Cincinnati, which began last season 3-22, is off to a 3-1 start. Giants 12, White Sox 3 – Villar homers twice, Giants hit 7 in romp over White Sox David Villar hit two of San Francisco's seven home runs, Anthony DeSclafani tossed three-hit ball over six scoreless innings and the Giants pounded the Chicago White Sox 12-3. Villar hit a solo homer in the fifth and a grand slam in the ninth. Joc Pederson, Michael Conforto, Thairo Estrada, Mike Yastrzemski and Bryce Johnson also went deep. The Giants spoiled Chicago's first home game under manager Pedro Grifol. Pederson got the home run derby going when he connected leading off a two-run second. The Giants smacked four more homers in the fifth, the first time they hit four in an inning since Sept. 18, 2011 at Colorado. Conforto and Estrada went back to back, and so did Yastrzemski and Villar. Tonight White Sox are off Chicago Cubs (Wesneski 0-0) at Cincinnati (Cessa 0-0), 6:40 p.m. Detroit (Manning 0-0) at Houston (Valdez 0-0), 8:10 p.m.    News/Talk/Sports 94.9 WSJM 7:45 MLB – White Sox closer Hendriks starts final round of chemotherapy Chicago White Sox closer Liam Hendriks says he was beginning his final round of chemotherapy on Monday. Hendriks, battling non-Hodgkin lymphoma, made the announcement in an eight-second video shown prior to Chicago's home opener against the San Francisco Giants. He wished White Sox fans a happy opening day while announcing he was starting his final round. He said he’ll “see you guys on the South Side soon.” A three-time All-Star, Hendriks announced the diagnosis in January. General manager Rick Hahn said Hendriks and Garrett Crochet (left elbow surgery) are “progressing,” though the White Sox won't have a timeline on their returns until they begin rehab assignments. NCAAWBKB – Sunday’s NCAA women’s title game draws record TV audience LSU's 102-85 victory over Iowa in Sunday's national championship game was the most-viewed NCAA women's basketball game on record. There were 9.9 million viewers on ABC and ESPN2 according to fast national numbers by Nielsen. The total audience is a 103% jump over last year, when South Carolina defeated UConn and averaged 4.85 million on ESPN and ESPN2. The audience on Sunday at one point peaked at 12.6 million. The record ratings come as the NCAA is deciding whether to separate the women's tournament or keep it as part of the championships TV package that includes at least 24 sports. NCAAWBKB – Jill Biden wants champions LSU — and Iowa — at White House First lady Jill Biden says she wants to see the defeated Iowa women's basketball team invited to the White House as well as the national title winner Louisiana State University. She watched LSU's 102-85 victory from the stands on Sunday night. The first lady, during a visit to the Colorado state capital in Denver, praised Iowa's sportsmanship and congratulated both teams on their performance. She says the champions were sure to be invited to the White House and then added that she was going to tell the president that “Iowa should come, too, because they played such a good game.” NCAAWBKB – After March Madness, women’s pro basketball options are slim March Madness may be the last time for fans to see many of the talented college women players compete. Even the handful of players selected in the upcoming WNBA draft will find it difficult to continue their pro careers. There are only potentially 144 WNBA roster spots available and most of those are filled with returning players. There has been talk of expansion over the last few years, but nothing has come to fruition yet. Taking their talents overseas is also not given with those jobs also at premium. Following Brittney Griner’s travails in Russia, dozens of jobs players used to be able to find in that country during the offseason are no longer an option. That has a trickle down on openings in other countries. Golf – Masters – LIV’s Cam Smith happy to get hugs and handshakes at Augusta British Open champion Cameron Smith refers to Augusta National as his happy place. He arrived with a little trepidation now that he’s with LIV Golf. Smith says he found it was business as usual. He says there’s a lot of clamor at the Masters about LIV Golf players competing against PGA Tour loyalists. That much was clear when a practice round tee sheet listed Bryson DeChambeau playing with Tiger Woods. Turns out that wasn’t the case. Smith says it’s important that LIV players contend at the Masters. He says LIV players are wrongly accused of not playing real golf. Wrestling – WWE no longer just a family affair as it joins with UFC WWE is saying goodbye to existing as a family-run business as it joins with the company that runs Ultimate Fighting Championship to create a $21.4 billion sports entertainment company. The deal announced Monday between Endeavor and World Wrestling Entertainment catapults WWE into a new era after spending decades under the control of the McMahon family. Vince McMahon purchased Capitol Wrestling from his father in 1982, and took the regional wrestling business to a national audience with wrestling stars such as Andre the Giant, Hulk Hogan, “Stone Cold” Steve Austin, John Cena and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. McMahon called the agreement an evolution for WWE. USA Soccer – Davidson relishes new role with the US players union While the women's national team fought for and won its landmark equal pay contract with U.S. Soccer last spring, new players' association officer Tierna Davidson believes there is so much more to be done. The women continue to advocate for better wages and treatment in the game both nationally and internationally as the team prepares for this summer's Women's World Cup in Australia and New Zealand. NCAAMBKB – Men's College Basketball – Championship Last Night NCAA Tournament – Final Four – NRG Stadium, Houston 4 UConn 76, 5 San Diego State 59 UConn 76, SDSU 59 – UConn wins March Madness with 76-59 smothering of SDSU Adama Sanogo powered UConn to the school’s fifth national title with a 76-59 victory over San Diego State. The Giants spoiled Chicago's first home game under manager Pedro Grifol. Pederson got the home run derby going when he connected leading off a two-run second. The Giants smacked four more homers in the fifth, the first time they hit four in an inning since Sept. 18, 2011 at Colorado. The Cincinnati Reds announced the fourth and fifth starters for the starting rotation to be Luis Cessa and Conner Overton. The reasoning behind the Reds choosing Overton and Cessa is faulty, we'll explain why. This also leaves the Reds bullpen in a lurch, although Hunter Strickland was released (thankfully). How do the Reds plan on filling out the rest of the bullpen? Where do Derek Law and Joel Kuhnel factor in? Will there be another lefty for manager David Bell to use in close games? The Reds are still not sure if Joey Votto will be ready for Opening Day and the future hall of fame had some not-so encouraging comments about how he's feeling about the comeback. If he is out, look for Jason Vosler to make the roster and Wil Myers and Tyler Stephenson to share time at first base. Also, Elly De La Cruz and Christian Incarnation-Strand will begin the year on the injured list. This pushes back their possible debuts for the Reds this season but could mean good things for a couple of players.Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!GametimeDownload the Gametime app, create an account, and use code LOCKEDONMLB for $20 off your first purchase.Ultimate Pro Baseball GMTo download the game just visit probaseballgm.com or look it up on the app stores. Our listeners get a 100% free boost to their franchise when using the promo LOCKEDON (ALL CAPS) in the game store.Built BarBuilt Bar is a protein bar that tastes like a candy bar. Joc Pederson is back! Pederson accepted the San Francisco Giants' $19.65 million qualifying offer yesterday, which officially means he'll wear the orange and black again in 2023. The Giants surprised many in the industry when they gave Joc the QO, but it really shouldn't have come as a huge surprise if we look at their recent history. They gave qualifying offers to Kevin Gausman and Brandon Belt in the last couple of years as well, moves that also surprised those outside of San Francsico (and even some insiders). Many are griping about Pederson's defensive issues. But Pederson compares well to Kyle Schwarber, who got 4/$79M last offseason. Nick Castellanos is a far worse defender than Pederson, and he has a worse career wRC+, and he got 5/$100M last winter. There really isn't such thing as a bad one-year deal, and as long as the roughly $20M the Giants committed to Pederson doesn't stop them from making other significant moves, who cares? It's not our money. The SF Giants also added several players to their 40-man roster to protect them from the Rule 5 Draft. Marco Luciano and Luis Matos are officially on the Major League roster, but don't necessarily expect to see them in the big leagues in 2023. The Giants also added Tristan Beck, Jose Cruz, Keaton Winn, and Brett Wisely to the 40-man yesterday. Wisely was acquired in a trade with the Tampa Bay Rays after hitting 15 home runs and stealing 30 bases in the upper Minors in 2022. The San Francisco Giants DFA'd Jarlín Garcia and Jason Vosler, among a few others, in corresponding moves in order to add so many players to their 40-man roster.Find and follow Locked On Giants on your favorite podcast platforms:

San Francisco Giants starter Logan Webb took a no-hitter into the sixth inning, and had a very low pitch count, yet the bullpen was up as the inning began. Indeed, the Giants are monitoring Webb's workload for the rest of the season. And it's an easily defensive move for Gabe Kapler and the SF Giants considering the team's position in the standings and the fact that Webb has never thrown this many innings in a season. The Giants have made several roster moves in recent days. Jharel Cotton was claimed off waivers and is active for today's game and will likely pitch bulk inning for the Giants. The San Francisco Giants, surprisingly, had the NL's second-best team ERA in the month of June. Yet they only managed a 13-13 record, their second straight month of mediocre baseball. The Giants are currently on the outside looking in of the NL Wild Card picture, but they trail the final spot by just a single game. The Giants' June overall is evaluated. Carlos Rodón righted the ship in a major way, establishing himself as a legitimate Cy Young candidate. He was easily the Giants' best player this month. Not far behind him was Logan Webb, who has also had an excellent season. The bullpen was also good, led by Camilo Doval and John Brebbia. Alex Wood and Anthony DeSclafani really struggled in June, although DeSclafani only pitched 5.2 innings (but his ERA was near 20.00).It was the position players who were costly. Evan Longoria and Joc Pederson had strong months, but otherwise there wasn't much to write home about. Mike Yastrzemski cooled off in a major way, and Brandon Belt and Brandon Crawford continued to be essentially non-factors. LaMonte Wade Jr. played in just one game in June, but thankfully he is now back. Donovan Walton has played a lot and been a net negative. Jason Vosler's somewhat surprising demotion is discussed as well.Find and follow Locked On Giants on your favorite podcast platforms:

At the beginning of the year, no one gave much thought to players like Jakob Junis, Jason Vosler, or Luis González. Donovan Walton was in another organization. But those players have established themselves as legitimate contributors on an SF Giants team that is now 29-24 despite not playing all that well all season long.Yes, the Giants have been merely mediocre for the past month-plus. But they've been a resilient bunch, and new players have been a big reason why. Walton hit a huge grand slam in the win on Sunday. He had a bases-clearing double on Saturday. Junis pitched a gem on getaway day. Vosler hit two big homers in the series and played exceptional defense. González was the NL's Rookie of the Month in May.The Giants have not been healthy all season. Brandon Belt and LaMonte Wade Jr. continue to be out with knee injuries. Anthony DeSclafani has barely pitched all year. But because of those new contributors, and strong seasons out of the likes of veterans Mike Yastrzemski and Joc Pederson, the San Francisco Giants have hung around above .500 and are still in good position to go on a run. It's hard to win a series when you allow 28 runs on 45 hits. That's over nine runs per game—yikes! The San Francisco Giants are dealing with a huge amount of injuries and a Covid outbreak, but that really wasn't why they got blown out by the Nationals over the weekend. Chalk the series loss up to uncharacteristically poor pitching.Alex Wood and Alex Cobb failed to set the tone in each of their starts, putting the Giants in big early holes. Cobb was returning off the injured list after missing a couple of starts with a groin injury. But yes, the Giants look largely unfamiliar due to all of their injuries and the Covid outbreak. Mike Yastrzemski, Brandon Belt, Dom Leone, and Zack Littell have tested positive for Covid-19. LaMonte Wade Jr., Evan Longoria, Tommy La Stella, and Anthony DeSclafani remain on the injured list. They're missing about 10 guys from their active roster who would ordinarily be in there. As a result, we're seeing a lot of the likes of Luis González (who's done a really nice job), Jason Krizan, Mike Ford (just acquired in a trade in response to all of the players on the IL), and Jason Vosler. Joc Pederson and Austin Slater are also banged up, but thankfully not on the IL. Despite it all, the Giants' hitting was not the problem this weekend, and hasn't been a problem all season. They're scoring the most runs per game in all of baseball (5.0), and scored six runs per game in this series. It was a weird one, but the Giants have no choice but to turn the page, try to get healthy, and get ready to face the Dodgers on Tuesday.Find and follow Locked On Giants on your favorite podcast platforms:

On today's Locked On Giants podcast, host Ben Kaspick, host Ben Kaspick talks about three things we learned this weekend with the San Francisco Giants. Tommy La Stella, who received the largest contact handed out by Farhan Zaidi in San Francisco last offseason, had a disappointing first season in San Francisco. He was injured several times, and most recently his left Achilles bothered him down the stretch and kept him out of some key games. He met with a specialist last week, and ultimately ended up having surgery. He is expected to be back at full strength in four months, but you never know with these things. The Giants may need additional insurance at second base, as Donovan Solano is a free agent and their depth chart there currently looks something like Wilmer Flores, Thairo Estrada, Jason Vosler, and Mauricio Dubón. The Giants also suffered a big blow in the world of coaching on Monday. Donnie Ecker, one of the Giants' hitting coaches responsible for turning this team's offense around over the past two seasons, is leaving for the Texas Rangers, where he'll be bench coach and offensive coordinator, in charge of offensive development at the major and minor league levels. Ecker is considered a rising star in the industry, and this moves him one step closer to potentially becoming a manager. But it stings for the Giants, although manager Gabe Kapler is known for constantly keeping tabs on coaches who would be next in line if one of their own departs. This is par for the course for a team that shocked the industry by winning a franchise-record 107 games. Finally, Ben discusses Buster Posey winning his second Comeback Player of the Year Award. It was a tremendous bounceback season for Posey (in part thanks to Ecker, no doubt), after he opted out of the 2020 season and had struggled to below-average offensive performance in 2019. Several Giants veterans enjoyed career years in 2021, thanks to the Giants' new coaches hired by Kapler.Watch Daily on YouTube http://bit.ly/LOGYouTubeBONUS CONTENT: https://bit.ly/BenKaspickYouTubeSupport Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!Built BarBuilt Bar is a protein bar that tastes like a candy bar. Austin Slater, Alex Dickerson, Mike Tauchman, and Steven Duggar are all going through rough patches. Only Mike Yastrzemski has been productive lately. The second thing we learned is that Kevin Gausman was placed on the family medical emergency leave list, as his wife Taylor was hospitalized due to pregnancy complications. Thankfully, Taylor is doing well and Gausman is scheduled to start Monday in Los Angeles. Logan Webb made Gausman's start on Friday, and he continued to throw the ball really well. The final thing we learned was that Tauchman was activated off the IL, Jay Jackson's contract was selected, Jason Vosler was optioned, and Evan Longoria was placed on the 60-day IL. We also received updates on Aaron Sanchez, Reyes Moronta, and Tommy La Stella, all of whom shouldn't be that far off from returning.Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!Built BarBuilt Bar is a protein bar that tastes like a candy bar. This week, Teddy and Gina talk about the BS that they hear constantly with people getting worried about getting too jacked or too huge or too bulky and how that that never actually happens to people. They also give another update on Jason Vosler, who recently hit his 3rd major league homerun and shout out a bunch of OD members who have been killing it lately. On today's Locked On Giants podcast, host Ben Kaspick answers listeners questions about the San Francisco Giants. Among the questions asked and answered are: At what point do the injuries become too much? So far we haven't skipped a beat with guys like Steven Duggar, LaMonte Wade Jr., and Jason Vosler playing so well. The Giants have a 10 game stretch coming up against last place teams. What would you consider a successful record during that stretch? Do you have any thoughts on the idea that the Mike Tauchman acquisition was made with an eye to the future? Working with the hitting coaches to forge a swing change could unlock more contact and power and make him a dangerous hitter with the eye he has, but would need to wait a season?Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!Built BarBuilt Bar is a protein bar that tastes like a candy bar. On today's Locked On Giants podcast, host Ben Kaspick discusses three things we learned this weekend with the San Francisco Giants. The first thing we learned is that Evan Longoria is going to miss 4-6 weeks with a left shoulder sprain, an injury he sustained after colliding with Brandon Crawford in the 9th inning of Saturday's win against the Cubs. The Giants have been ravaged by injuries in 2021, and losing Longoria is among their biggest blows. They're also currently missing Tommy La Stella, Brandon Belt, Mike Yastrzemski, Logan Webb, and several others. Players like LaMonte Wade Jr., Jason Vosler, and Steven Duggar have filled in admirably in their absence. The second thing we learned is that the Giants may call up a young starter for Wednesday's game. Webb is on the IL, and Scott Kazmir and Nick Tropeano were recently DFA'd, so it may be Sam Long or Matt Frisbee to start Wednesday against the Rangers. The third thing we learned is some unfortunate news about Giants play-by-play announcer Duane Kuiper. Kuiper announced via the Giants on Monday that he has a medical condition that will require immediate chemotherapy treatment, and that he may miss broadcasts. Obviously, our hearts go out to Kuiper and we wish him nothing but the best and a full and speedy recovery from his condition.Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!Built BarBuilt Bar is a protein bar that tastes like a candy bar. On today's Locked On Giants podcast, host Ben Kaspick talks about the San Francisco Giants' rash of injuries. Their lineup in last night's loss to the Dodgers was one of the most inefficient of the Gabe Kapler era. Alex Dickerson started against a lefty, which is very unusual. Jason Vosler, the fifth-string first baseman and another lefty, also started. Things should look a little better tonight with a right-hander on the mound, but unfortunately for the Giants, that right-hander is one of baseball's best pitchers in Walker Buehler.Wilmer Flores should be able to come back on Saturday, which is actually huge for the Giants with two lefties in Julio Urias and Clayton Kershaw finishing out the series for the Dodgers. Despite a sluggish start, the Giants are now near the top of the MLB leaderboards in several key categories, including wRC+, isolated power, fWAR, BB/K, and Chase%. Buster Posey, who's leading the major leagues in wRC+, has been a huge reason why the offense has posted overall strong numbers. The second thing we learned is that the Giants' predicted struggles against the Padres were overstated. They've played nine games against a team that was supposed to dominate them, and the Giants are 5-4 in those games. The Giants are also in first place, ahead of the Padres and Dodgers. The third thing we learned is that the Giants made a lot of roster moves. Mike Yastrzemski, Johnny Cueto, Kevin Gausman, and Jarlin Garcia were activated off the injured list. Alex Dickerson and Aaron Sanchez went on the IL. On today's Locked On Giants podcast, host Ben Kaspick talks about three things we learned this weekend with the San Francisco Giants. The first thing we learned is that the Giants did what they needed to do in San Diego: win at least one game. While they obviously would have liked to do more, winning a series on the road against a team of the Padres' caliber should be more of a goal rather than the expectation. Behind Kevin Gausman and Mike Tauchman, the Giants won the finale, 7-1, which actually meant they outscored San Diego in the series. The Giants are now 3-3 against the Padres this season, with all six games coming on the road. That shouldn't be viewed as anything other than a win for the Giants. The second thing we learned is that Tommy La Stella is hurt. La Stella pulled his left hamstring on Sunday, and it's a big loss for the Giants, who are already without Donovan Solano at second base, and other key players like Mike Yastrzemski. La Stella will likely head to the IL, further testing the Giants' depth. Ben thinks Jason Vosler will likely be called up and will start at second base against right-handed pitchers. The third thing we learned was that the Giants made some roster moves. Zack Littell was added to the 40-man and active rosters, and Steven Duggar was called up. In corresponding moves, Vosler was optioned and Skye Bolt was DFA'd. We also learned that Buster Posey continues to be a force at the plate, with a refined pre-pitch setup. Now he gets to hit in Colorado, as the Giants will look to win a road series against an inferior Rockies team.Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!Built BarBuilt Bar is a protein bar that tastes like a candy bar. On today's Locked On Giants podcast, host Ben Kaspick answers listeners' questions about the state of the San Francisco Giants. Among the questions asked and answered are: Should Mike Yastrzemski be dropped in the order or given some days off? I see a lot of fans suggesting Gabe Kapler should give some of the struggling hitters like Yastrzemski or Mauricio Dubón a couple days rest as sort of a mental reset. What do you think of this strategy with hitters, or is it better to stay in nearly every day like those two players are now? Is there anything specific you see with Yastrzemski's swing or approach at the plate that's different from last year that might be leading to his continued struggles? Any bullpen guys that you think are on a short leash as in getting sent down? Do they have the bullpen depth they thought they did to start the season? I'm excited about Camilo Doval just based on his results and personality — but are there also specific quantitative reasons to be excited about him, like velocity, spin rate, etc.? What did the front office see in him that caused him to get promoted so aggressively? What is Tyler Beede's impact this year? Who would be your choice to replace Donovan Solano on the active roster if he is put on the IL? Jason Vosler, Thairo Estrada, another outfielder?Listen to The Ultimate Mock Draft 2021 presented by Audacy and the Locked On Podcast Network. Is there anything specific you see with Yastrzemski’s swing or approach at the plate that’s different from last year that might be leading to his continued struggles? Any bullpen guys that you think are on a short leash as in getting sent down? Do they have the bullpen depth they thought they did to start the season? I'm excited about Camilo Doval just based on his results and personality — but are there also specific quantitative reasons to be excited about him, like velocity, spin rate, etc.? What did the front office see in him that caused him to get promoted so aggressively? What is Tyler Beede's impact this year? Who would be your choice to replace Donovan Solano on the active roster if he is put on the IL? Jason Vosler, Thairo Estrada, another outfielder? On today's Locked On Giants podcast, host Ben Kaspick catches you up on all the latest with the San Francisco Giants. Manager Gabe Kapler finally named an opening day starter, and it was the right choice. Kevin Gausman will take the mound next Thursday night against the Mariners, one week from today. Johnny Cueto will start the second game.Ben also dives into last night's televised game against the San Diego Padres. Anthony DeSclafani was on the mound for the Giants, and he pitched beautifully. He ended up with eight strikeouts in four-plus innings, featuring three really good pitches: a firm fastball, a breaking ball, and a changeup. Could DeSclafani become a breakout performer in 2021 like Gausman did in 2020? Also in this game, Mike Yastrzemski, Donovan Solano, and Austin Slater hit home runs. Ben talks about how the Giants' offense is one of the most underrated in the game. Finally, Ben discusses the Giants' flurry of roster moves yesterday, with the optioning of Jason Vosler being the most surprising. We typically read too much into opening day rosters, however, and Giants fans should be aware that Vosler is very likely to get a real opportunity at some point this year. It could even be in the opening series if the Giants have to place Brandon Belt, who's been behind all spring as he recovered from mono, on the injured list.Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors! On today's Locked On Giants podcast, host Ben Kaspick answers questions from listeners about the state of the San Francisco Giants as the 2021 season approaches. Among the questions asked and answered are: Is Steven Duggar making the team? He's making a strong case. Out of LaMonte Wade Jr., Jason Krizan, Jason Vosler and Steven Duggar, who do you think makes the biggest impact this year? Will Heliot Ramos be up this year? Does Ramos' timeline get moved up at all by his good showing so far this spring? Do you think acquiring Will Wilson for cash was a steal? Even though spring training games don't matter, what are some stats that can be actual indicators of success in the regular season? For your money, who is the current Giant most likely to break out of a platoon assignment?Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors! Built BarBuilt Bar is a protein bar that tastes like a candy bar. Locked On Giants – Daily Podcast On The San Francisco Giants

On today's Locked On Giants podcast, host Ben Kaspick talks about the latest with the San Francisco Giants and Major League Baseball. Following the Giants' televised spring game on Tuesday, Ben breaks down the game's key takeaways. Two lefty bats with aspirations of making the Giants' roster at some point this season were in the lineup and had impressive games. Outfielder LaMonte Wade Jr. could play a prominent role this year, as he seems to fit the Giants' needs perfectly. In the infield, Jason Vosler could get a real opportunity at some point, and he made a good impression by lining a pair of opposite field doubles against Dodgers ace Walker Buehler and the flame throwing righty Dustin May.In the second segment, Ben discusses a couple of major stories that have broken in the last few days. The Athletic reported yesterday that expanded postseason and the universal DH are "dead issues," which could dramatically affect the Giants' 2021 playoff chances. Additionally, we learned this week that the Triple-A season, which was originally slated to start in early April, will be delayed until May.Finally, Ben discusses Jon Heyman's report that the Giants are close to signing veteran relief pitcher José Álvarez. It's probably a minor league contract, but could be a major league deal given Álvarez's track record of being a consistently good left-handed reliever.Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors! On today's Locked On Giants podcast, host Ben Kaspick talks about the San Francisco Giants' signing of free-agent relief pitcher John Brebbia to a one-year, $800K deal. Brebbia had Tommy John surgery in June, but owns a lifetime 3.14 ERA in 175 innings. He should be able to join the Giants' bullpen sometime in the summer, and he can be retained through the arbitration process for two additional seasons beyond 2021. He joins Kevin Gausman, Anthony DeSclafani, Matt Wisler, and Jason Vosler as significant free-agent additions the Giants have made this offseason. Despite the Giants' additions of two starting pitchers, two veteran right-handed relievers, and a left-handed bat, the Giants still have work to do in all of those areas. The players they've added are all quality pieces, but the Giants need even more major league depth and talent in those areas if they hope to compete for the postseason in 2021.Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors! Built BarBuilt Bar is a protein bar that tastes like a candy bar. On today's Locked On Giants podcast, host Ben Kaspick looks at some 2021 ZiPS projections for the San Francisco Giants, which were released Monday on FanGraphs by Dan Szymborski. Examined today are the projections for Alex Dickerson, Jason Vosler, Joey Bart, and Darin Ruf. Ben talked at length last year about how projections systems were overly pessimistic about the Giants, and that they were likely to outperform them because of their commitment to platoons and innovative new hitting coaches. And indeed, the Giants massively outperformed their pessimistic 2020 projections almost to a man. Now, the 2021 ZiPS projections are out, and Ben examines whether or not the computer is buying into what the Giants were able to do in the small sample of 2020. As we'll see, the projections are buying into the improvements to an extent, but they're not all-in just yet.Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors! Built BarBuilt Bar is a protein bar that tastes like a candy bar. On today's Locked On Giants podcast, host Ben Kaspick discusses the San Francisco Giants' signing of minor league free agent Jason Vosler to a major league contract. It's a peculiar move, and one that doesn't have a ton of recent precedent in San Francisco. Many Giants' media members speculated that the signing of Vosler indicates that he will be on the major league team, but Ben believes that Vosler will simply be an option, rather than a sure thing to platoon with Evan Longoria at third base. Vosler primarily plays third and first base, but he's also played second and shortstop in his minor league career. He was previously in the Cubs' and Padres' organizations, where he was blocked at his primary position by Kris Bryant and then Manny Machaco. Giants' president of baseball operations Farhan Zaidi has a track record of fidning diamonds in the rough, and Vosler could be next in line. Also on today's show, Ben talks about Kevin Gausman's impending qualifying offer decision, which is due this afternoon, as he reportedly weighs multiyear offers, including from the Giants.Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors! Built BarBuilt Bar is a protein bar that tastes like a candy bar.
