As a Recovery Specialist, Youth Mentor, and Certified Life Coach, I'm passionate about empowering individuals to overcome adversity and reach their full potential. My journey from a former gang member and prison inmate to a dedicated change-maker has taught me the power of resilience, and I'm committed to sharing that with others. Through my work, I help individuals and communities break free from cycles of trauma, addiction, and limitation. Growing up and having relationship issues with my father and living in different neighborhoods, I was drawn to the streets and eventually became a gang member. But after a stint in prison, I hit rock bottom. It was there, in that darkest moment, that I discovered my resilience. I realized I had two choices: give up or use my experiences to make a difference. I began to mentor fellow inmates, sharing my story and encouraging them to seek a better path. Upon release, I dedicated myself to helping at-risk youth avoid the mistakes I made. I've seen countless individuals transform their lives through my work as a Youth Mentor, Certified Life Coach, and Recovery Specialist. My resilience comes from: Self-reflection: Understanding my past and how it shapes my present.#JoseVargasZapata#InspiringJourneys#MissionDriven#podcast #JoseZapataStory#podcast #PurposeAndPassion#MakingADifference#podcast #OvercomingChallenges#psychology#DrivenByPurpose#InspirationAndResilience#PersonalMission
Send us a Text Message. As a teenager, Joe Vargas Sr. immigrated from Mexico to Orange County, CA and started his life there. After working various jobs, he learned English and received his high school diploma. He got a degree in Police Science and eventually joined Stranton PD after eventually ending up at Santa Ana PD. Being it's first Hispanic officer, his unconventional approach to policing earned the respect of the local Latino population. This method later became known as "community policing" and has been adopted by many police agencies throughout the United States. Joe Sr. left a legacy in his community but also in his family, where two of his sons and two of his nephews also served careers in law enforcement. In this episode, I interview Joe Jr. about his father's amazing life and about his own career with the Anaheim Police Department. If you have any questions, comments or ideas for future episodes, please contact me at: RememerMyNamePodcast@gmail.com

Spinoff show! But hopefully, this spinoff fares better than most spinoffs... Mata flies solo in these spinoff episodes. These episodes will feature people who're succeeding in life! We attempt to better understand what they're doing that makes them succeed and share that in hopes of fortifying families. This episode features a former secret service officer, Jose Vargas. He's a husband, father, leadership coach, author, and speaker. He encourages us to ask ourselves difficult questions and then develop a growth plan. Enjoy!
Former Secret Service Officer Jose Vargas is a force of nature. His life started in poverty and difficulty, but his mom set a goal for him and his family: to escape an abusive environment and set her children up for success. Little did she know her son would go on to protect the leader of the free world. Vargas discusses unique experiences, walking the White House halls and washing hands next to the President of the United States, his "no fail" mission to keep our officials safe, and the lessons you can learn. Vargas explains the common mistakes people make when setting goals. His perspective will reset you and focus you on your goals. See all the show notes at https://justinkbrady.com/jose-vargas
Author and former Secret Service Agent, Jose Vargas brings a powerful word on God using the dark moments in our lives.
In this episode, Maria, Cesar, Will, Brian, and Jose discuss: Building online companies in Miami for the last 20 years. Healthcare.com's explosive growth, $180M round. Jose's M&A activity over the last two decades.
Sports? Radio? Wars? Come and listen about the different perspectives that a theology and communication major have on these topics.
He speaks about his younger years from the standpoint of: "this is just the way it was" with not a hint of bitterness in his voice. And he never portrays himself as the victim. He teaches us that often our misconceptions, preconceived ideas, and false judgements of situations, or people, or things that happened in the past have fed our anger for so long but are often false. If he, who had every right to hold onto anger or resentment was able to see past it and forgive, who am I not to?It gives me joy to hear that Jose and his Mom are finally able to have an open and sincere relationship after all these years. No matter how old you get, you never stop needing the approval, love, or acceptance of your mom. It is proof that healing can come, but maybe not in the way or the time frame isn't when we thought it would be. I appreciate how he is striving to grow in understanding and deeper love. He's learning to trust, to love, and to have hope again.Jose's adamant and purposeful decision to change his mindset and lifestyle despite the negative repercussions he thought he might receive from those who knew him in prison, is nothing short of heroic. He finally knew who he was and what he wanted and he wasn't going to rely on other people to validate who he was. Steve Maraboli, another hero and decorated military vet says, “Once your mindset changes, everything on the outside will change along with it.” Jose's life is witness to this truth. May we all have the courage to change our mindset and to keep on living it day in and day out, just as Jose has.Jose's quote - People may forget your name, but they will always remember how you made them feel.Defy Ventures

Dams clog rivers and streams all over New England. Environmentalists want to take many of them down to improve habitat for fish, but some entrepreneurs want to put them back to work doing their original jobs: making power. Plus, with the Trump Administration’s voter fraud commission meeting in New Hampshire this week, we revisit our conversation about the wacky political world of the Granite State. And, we take trips to two places that are trying to attract tourists: the factory site of a controversial gun magnate, and a mythical wonderland that takes shape just over the border in Québec. Built about 150 years ago, Mill Pond Dam in Colchester, Vt., is currently breached, but still creating a small swamp upstream. Photo by Kathleen Masterson for VPR What Do You Do With an Old Dam? The rivers and streams of New England are littered with thousands of dams. Many of them were used to produce the energy that sparked industry, but they’re now doing little more than than clogging waterways. Conservationists looking to restore the health of rivers are often met with political and emotional resistance when they try to remove large dams. So some are turning their attention to smaller, privately owned ones. Vermont Public Radio’s Kathleen Masterson took a closer look. Nick Cabral is a co-founder of Goose River Hydro in Belfast, Maine But not everyone’s ready to tear down old New England dams. In central Maine, a couple of young entrepreneurs sees potential in old dams in the form of renewable energy and profit. Maine Public Radio’s Fred Bever has more. Vote First or Die Voters cast ballots in Windham, New Hampshire. Photo by Allegra Boverman for NHPR. Even by New Hampshire's high standards, this was a pretty big week in politics. President Trump's controversial voter fraud commission met in Manchester, where one of the commission's members, long-time New Hampshire secretary of state Bill Gardner, faced criticism from all four members of the state's congressional delegation. Gardner used the occasion of the meeting to rebuke Kris Kobach, the Kansas Secretary of State, for his op-ed on Brietbart.com, suggesting widespread voter fraud in the 2016 New Hampshire election. It's a claim that FactCheck.org called “bogus.” Meanwhile, a state judge ruled against a provision in a new voter law that would have subjected voters to a possible fine or jail time if they failed to submit residency paperwork in a timely fashion. The judge wrote that the provision was a “very serious deterrent” to the right to vote. That New Hampshire's elections have come under scrutiny is something that grates at state residents. The Granite State takes pride in the way it conducts its elections, with no institution more sacred than its first-in-the-nation primary. Scott Conroy is a long-time political reporter, who grew up in neighboring Massachusetts, and who became enamored with New Hampshire's political culture while covering presidential candidates criss-crossing the state. His book is Vote First or Die: The New Hampshire Primary: Americas Discerning, Magnificent, and Absurd Road to the White House. NEXT caught up with Conroy earlier this year. Building a National Park Based on Hartford History Sparks Pride, and Discomfort Unlike New Hampshire, Connecticut has long suffered from a kind of civic inferiority complex. The state is stuck between Boston and New York, but far more congested than scenic New England destinations to the north. Student reporters Nicole Ellis (left) and Madyson Frame pose at Samuel Colt’s statue in Hartford’s Colt Park, with historian Bill Hosley. Photo by Sam Hockaday And then there are the money problems. It's one of the richest states in the nation, but the state budget is billions in the hole. And Hartford, the state’s capital, struggles with a perception that it has too much crime and not enough to do. But something big is on the horizon. A new national park, set to open in the next few years, will tell the story of one of the city's most important industrial leaders. Coltsville National Historical Park will be built on land that once belonged to firearms manufacturer Samuel Colt, and will include parts of the historic Colt factory complex. Colt had an outsized influence on Hartford and was a major player in the Industrial Revolution. But is his a history worth honoring? Madyson Frame, a recent graduate of Hartford's Journalism and Media Academy, reports. Lighting Up the Forest Flips the Switch on a Small Town A stroll through Foresta Lumina includes some sparkly, stunningly lit sections of forest. Photo by Chris Jensen While Hartford dreams about creating a tourist attraction from the ground up, Coaticook, Québec, which sits right on the Vermont border, pulled it off. Local officials took an unusual idea, made a $1 million gamble, and hit a tourism geyser: a high-tech enchanted woodland called Foresta Lumina. Reporter Chris Jensen, with the New Hampshire Center for Public Interest Journalism, went to see for himself. Below: a video from the Creators Project goes behind the scenes at Foresta Lumina. About NEXT NEXT is produced at WNPR. Slau - "There’s a known problem with the Edirol R-09 that might potentially affect listeners who own the machine. I was listening to Jim Fidler’s podcast, Republic of Avalon Radio, where, during his walk with his wife, he started talking about this problem where the side of the unit starts to come loose and buckle. It seems like a minor nuisance at first but it becomes a major problem if not fixed. I experienced the same thing and was surprised to find out that a lot of people are starting to see this. "Jim had one of the first units ever shipped and I followed suit about a week later. So, now that we’ve seen this effect, I bet more and more people will start to notice this. Thing is, our units are out of warranty but those people who see this now and bought their units a few months after us can still have it fixed under warranty. BTW, another issue that people have seen is that the back plate switches come loose very easily and just move freely without any effect. That was a problem that happened to both of us and is also a known issue. Edirol hasn’t done any recall or anything but I think they should. They’re replacing warranty units with a different polymer these days. Anyway, maybe this will help some folks. Jim Fidler talks about it in one of his recent episodes."
