Ai microfoni di Unica Radio, il criminologo e scrittore Francesco Melis approfondisce le tematiche del suo saggio dedicato al mostro di Arbus, edito da Odoya nel 2025. Attraverso un'analisi basata sugli atti giudiziari, Melis ripercorre uno dei casi più cruenti della storia sarda, esplorando la psicologia del colpevole e le zone d'ombra di un'indagine che ha segnato un'epoca. Chi è Francesco Melis: dalla pedagogia alla criminologia Francesco Melis non è solo uno scrittore, ma un professionista con una solida formazione sul campo. Pedagogista e magistrato onorario presso il Tribunale di Sorveglianza di Cagliari dal 2021, ha perfezionato i suoi studi con un Master di secondo livello in criminologia presso l'Università di Firenze. Durante l'intervista, Melis chiarisce la sua specializzazione come criminologo penitenziario, figura che si occupa dei percorsi di riabilitazione ed esecuzione penale, distinguendosi dal criminologo investigativo o "profiler". Il suo lavoro di ricerca, tuttavia, lo ha portato a confrontarsi con i "cold case" e la ricostruzione storica di delitti efferati. Il caso del 1982: l'omicidio di Marina di Arbus Il saggio mette al centro il duplice omicidio avvenuto il 4 settembre 1982 presso la Marina di Arbus. Due turisti tedeschi, vennero massacrati a colpi di fucile all'interno del loro camper in una zona isolata tra le dune di Piscinas. Per dieci anni il colpevole restò senza volto, finché una donna di Arbus denunciò il marito, Sergio Curreli, riferendo una confessione resa dall'uomo in stato di ebbrezza. Nonostante Curreli facesse già parte della criminalità locale e fosse legato alla "banda di Desulo", il caso presentava numerose anomalie. Curreli: il profilo del "serial killer balente" Uno degli aspetti della ricerca di Melis è la definizione di Curreli come "serial killer balente". Il termine "balente", radicato nella cultura agropastorale sarda, richiama concetti di orgoglio e vendetta, ma nell'accezione moderna utilizzata dall'autore assume una connotazione negativa legata alla delinquenza e all'uso facile delle armi. Curreli è stato condannato per un totale di cinque omicidi, ma Melis sottolinea come la sua figura sia quella di un serial killer atipico: sebbene quattro omicidi fossero legati a dissidi criminali, il primo "omicidio" dei due turisti tedeschi avvenuto nel 1982, presentava una forte componente sessuale, componente emersa solamente in questo caso. Dubbi e incongruenze nelle indagini Nonostante la condanna, Melis evidenzia diverse contraddizioni negli interrogatori di Curreli. L'uomo fornì dettagli errati sull'aspetto della vittima femminile e sulla dinamica della violenza subita, oltre a descrizioni sommarie dell'interno del camper. È interessante notare che persino il Pubblico Ministero dell'epoca, il dottor Pili, chiese l'assoluzione per Curreli riguardo all'omicidio dei turisti tedeschi per mancanza di prove certe, la condanna arrivò comunque.
