His parents had an arranged marriage that failed so from the age 7 he was raised by his single dad. He is married to Kristi, and they have two children, Kensi (5) and Logan (8). In the session Shadi shares his crazy life story and experiences that have moulded him into the dad that he is today. He talks about growing up in a single-parent Persian home in the US, and the impact this had on his youth decisions to ensure a lasting marriage. We talk about culture, exposing your kids to all religions and good principles, and how our partners enable us to be a better parent. Shadi has an amazing story with so many pleasant outcomes and lessons learned - as a dad as well as an executive of 20+ years. The most powerful takeaways for me as a dad were: Expose my children to as many different cultures and learnings as possible. Make a point of using technology positively. Create family traditions and break bread together often. “Children are smart. If your spouse is disrespectful, and/or you find yourself treating your spouse the same way, then it’s time to set some real relational boundaries for the protection of your mental and emotional health. Below are some questions to ask and next steps to take as you think through setting unilateral boundaries:Identity: Am I relying on others’ praise to fill me up or give me a sense of self? Am I caving in any way to the criticism of others and believing what they say over what God says of me? In what ways do I need to place more of my worth and value in who God says I am? With whom do I need to set a boundary?Disrespect: Where do you need to set a boundary for yourself around defensiveness, criticism, contempt, or stonewalling? Which ones do you engage in and how can you catch yourself earlier on when you start to feel flooded, to stay in control of your reactions? Likewise, where do you need to set a boundary with your spouse? In what ways have you found yourself undermining your spouse? In what ways have you experienced your spouse undermining you? Move forward with setting your boundaries. Example: “I understand that you’re upset, but I can’t hear what you’re saying when you phrase it like that. The way you’re saying it is too hurtful to sink in. Now, I’d like to better understand where you’re coming from, but for me, we need to put this conversation on hold until both of us are calm, things are expressed differently, and I can better hear what you’re trying to say.” And then, follow through on your boundary! If your spouse won’t let it alone, reinforce your earlier statement. “I told you, I am not capable of having a conversation like this, so I’m walking away or taking some time until we can come back together and talk productively.”Bad Behavior: Here are a few linked resources with phone numbers to help:Domestic Violence Hotline + Support: 1-800-799-7233Substance Abuse Hotline + Support: 1-800-662-4357Mental Health Helpline + Resources: 1-800-950-6264To work with Kensi, visit bravemarriage.com. Have you ever created or expressed boundaries in your marriage? If not, learning how to create and set boundaries within your relationship may be the key to keeping it healthy. On today’s episode, we discuss setting boundaries around time, space, and decision-making. Here are the questions posed throughout the episode to discuss within your relationship:Time: How do you each prefer to spend your time? Are you and your spouse making it a priority to get the time and space you need to recharge and refuel so that you can be your best for those around you? If not, how can you work together to create some boundaries around your time that lead to mutual happiness in your marriage? Space: How much space do you desire to have in the morning? After work? After a full day with the kids? During conflict? What’s a reasonable boundary you two could set in each of these areas, given your current stage and season of life? Decision-Making: To what degree do you listen to and consider your spouse in the decision-making process? To what degree do you assert your needs, wants, and desires in the decision-making process? What is your partner’s perspective? How can you each set a boundary that better includes the both of you in the decision-making process? To work with Kensi, visit bravemarriage.com. For I know that nothing good dwells in me, that is, in my flesh. For I have the desire to do what is right, but not the ability to carry it out.” -Romans 7:15-18“Put on then, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience, bearing with one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive. My prayer for you this week is that you let your loved ones off the hook for fulfilling in you what only Christ can. That you’d understand God’s heart in a new way today as you listen to these words, which we sometimes forget: With God, one day is as good as a thousand years, and a thousand years, as good as a day (Ps. 90:4). God isn’t late with His promise, as some measure lateness, but because God so loves the world - that includes you! - He’s restraining Himself on your account, because He doesn’t want anyone lost (John 3:16). But instead, He desires that we would live life abundantly through Him (John 10:10). He’s giving everyone space and time to change (2 Peter 3:8-9). What does it mean to honor your father and mother as an adult? During the month of November, we’ll be exploring family of origin issues to see how our upbringings impacted us + continue to impact our relationships. On this episode, we discuss how to honor your father & mother as an adult, when you had a good childhood or upbringing. Three ways we do that are by (1) naming what’s good, (2) honoring our individual experiences, and (3) learning to see our parents as 3-dimensional.Music on today’s episode by: John Tibbs. NCIS: Los Angeles Star Daniela Ruah Reveals The Secret Weapon To Having It All

NCIS: Los Angeles star Daniela Ruah is about to give birth to her second child any minute. In fact she could be giving birth right now I as get my interview with her ready to be released in to the world. But I'm sure she'll wait until after this episode comes out. Babies wait for podcasts right?   I loved getting to know Daniela. TBH, I don't watch NCIS: Los Angeles or any of the NCIS shows. But I think I'll start after talking with her. It was so inspiring and validating talking to her about how she manages family time with her demanding career as an action star. As an actress and full-time mom, I'm still trying to trying to figure it all out so it's really helpful to hear how other moms working in the business are making it work. Courtesy: Daniela Ruah via Instagram Daniela plays "Special Agent Kensi Blye" and is married to David Olsen, the older brother of her NCIS: LA co-star Eric Olsen. The story of how Eric set her up with his brother is so sweet. And she's also best friends with Eric's wife, Sarah Wright. Talk about a tight-knit family! "Active Measures" -- Pictured: Daniela Ruah (Special Agent Kensi Blye) and Eric Christian Olsen (LAPD Liaison Marty Deeks). The seventh season resumes with Callen embarking on a secret project, leaving Sam, and the entire team in the dark. After Hetty demands his operation be shut down, the team is tasked with locating Callen before he finds himself in over his head on the seventh season premiere of NCIS: LOS ANGELES, Monday, Sept. 21 (9:59-11:00, ET/PT), on the CBS Television Network. Photo: Neil Jacobs/CBS ©2015 CBS Broadcasting, Inc. All Rights Reserved. Daniela shares that she and her husband waited until they felt secure enough in their careers to step into parenting. That's not to say everyone has to wait for a starring role on television but she says you have to do what's right for your situation. We also talked about how her son River is handling the impending arrival of his little sister. She says he's really excited and has been looking forward to it and hopes that attitude doesn't change once she arrives. I have a feeling it won't. He joined us briefly at the end of our interview and clearly adored his mama. Things covered in this episode include: Daniela's tips and personal experience with staying healthy during pregnancy. Why she feels differently about her birth plan the second time around. How having a supportive "village" around her has boosted her level of mom confidence. What it was like telling the producers of a hit show like NCIS: LA that she was pregnant for a second time. Their reaction surprised me and makes me feel confident about the future of motherhood in the entertainment biz. Courtesy: Daniela Ruah via Instagram Daniela is officially on maternity leave from NCIS: Los Angeles and it's really interesting how she says the writers are working around her pregnancy.  I really hope hearing from her gives my fellow actor moms some encouragement to know your life as an actress doesn't stop after you have kids, it gets more full. "Exchange Rate" -- Pictured: LL COOL J (Special Agent Sam Hanna), Daniela Ruah (Special Agent Kensi Blye), Eric Christian Olsen (LAPD Liaison Marty Deeks) and Chris O'Donnell (Special Agent G. Callen). When a convicted Cuban spy escapes U.S. custody just before he is set to return to his country in a prisoner exchange, the team is shocked to learn that Anna (Bar Paly) helped him break out. Also, Deeks admits to Kensi that he thinks she is too messy, on NCIS: LOS ANGELES, Monday, March 14 (9:59-11:00 PM, ET/PT), on the CBS Television Network. Photo: Sonja Flemming/CBS ©2016 CBS Broadcasting, Inc. All Rights Reserved. You can follow Daniela on Instagram and Twitter to watch her adventures unfold with her new baby girl. Thank you Dani for sharing your world with us! I learn so much from each person I interview on my show. In fact each week feels like a new introspective ...
