In Episode 104 of the Alfa Romeo Driver Podcast, brought to you by the Alfa Romeo Owners Club. Editor Guy Swarbrick sat down with professional racing driver – and instructor – Steve Deeks to talk about his passion for Alfa Romeo. They talked for so long, we turned it into two epsiodes. Part 1 was released in December as Episode 103 and covered Steve's early racing career and his links to Alfa Romeo – and how that developed into the passion he has for the marque. Part 2 covers his exploits in the Alfa Workshop 4C and the work he's done with Jamie Porter to help develop the car. It should make sense if you haven't listened to Part 1, but if you want to catch up and come back, that will work even better.

Dr Mark Deeks is someone who likes to challenge our assumptions about music, and in particular Heavy Metal, which he suggests has more than a passing resemblance to folk music (as someone with a Ph.D. from researching Heavy Metal music, he's able to say). But not only is he a Heavy Metal performer with his band Winterfylleth and as a solo artist, he's also a piano teacher, a musical director for various professional artists, as well as a conductor for ensembles as diverse as workplace choirs and the Royal Northern Sinfonia. Mark's passion is helping people to understand the important role that music can play in mental wellbeing; and his workshops and seminars on subjects surrounding the use of music to improve mental health and reduce stress are hugely popular. In this interview, Marks speaks candidly about his own experience of trauma; coming to terms with the loss of a child, and the role that music played in his recovery. This is an unusual and remarkable interview that may very well change your life. Steve Deeks, on The Ignition Podcast, Steve started life wandering from home to home. Still, that inconsistency in his life created an even more vital consistency in his personality: his ability to keep going. Throughout his career, he has been fighting for money to pursue his dream of single racing seaters professionally, and while he may not have achieved that dream, steve has given the motorsport world so much. Training racers and instructing drivers, allowing people to experience, in my opinion, the single best feeling in the world, the sense of putting your foot on the floor around a track. The DTC companies of today are different from their 2010 counterparts. In the 2010s, you could run well-designed Facebook ads with a high Return on Ad Spend (ROAS) and see incredible results, even if your product wasn't innovative. That advantage has gone away as Facebook ads have become commoditized. Now, as Robbie Deeks points out, the focus is on truly differentiated products delivered to a loyal customer base. That creates real value for customers and leads to sustainable growth for DTC brands. Deeks knows a thing or two about the DTC world. He spent his early career in Shopify before partnering with Gary Vaynerchuk to start VaynerCommerce. In this conversation, he chats with Convictional co-founder and President Chris Grouchy about the following topics: Solve customers' problems Play the long game Redefine your role Help people achieve their goals Attract talent with talent Don't churn and burn Invest in the founder Take back your leverage Reduce friction for the customer Bring back your customers It's a highly insightful conversation from someone who has lived and breathed DTC and ecommerce. Thanks for listening and we hope you enjoy it as much as we did.About Robbie Deeks:Robbie started out at Shopify Plus, where he helped the company explore new markets. Following that he partnered with Gary Vaynerchuk to build VaynerCommerce, a DTC growth consulting firm that works with some of the biggest brands in retail. About Convictional:Convictional is the Supplier Enablement Platform helping enterprise retailers, marketplaces and distributors launch and scale new product assortments by offering a modern way to connect and transact with every third-party vendor, including dropship and wholesale. Powerful API-based infrastructure allows buyers and sellers of products to automate trade no matter their integration preference, including API, EDI, and native platform apps. This episode we talked with Mark Deeks about crafting his debut Arð album, Take Up My Bones. We discussed the story of Northumbrian monks carrying a coffin around for 200 years that informs the record, his lifelong passion for piano and vocal harmonies, playing in Winterfylleth and why he made a choice to be "musically selfish." Mark hung out after the interview to chat about Metal News, New Releases and What We've Been Listening To. Plus, our Top 5 Album Opening Songs, unpronounceable names, memorable heckles at metal shows and Matt's plea for Mark to do spoken word with his soothing, storyteller voice.
A Professor of Medicine in residence at the University of California, San Francisco, Steven Deeks M.D., is an expert on HIV-associated immune dysfunction. Using his 30 years of experience researching viral illness, Deeks has turned his hand to the study of the long term impacts of COVID-19 on our immune systems. The parallels that he draws between HIV and Long Covid are startling. Studying a community cohort for the past two years, Deeks believes that we are beginning to unravel the mechanisms of Long Covid, and there is hope that some of these are treatable.
