Believers, having trusted in Christ's finished work, are already complete and full in Him, unable to become more complete or full. There's no need to pursue additional experiences or knowledge to truly experience God, as true believers already have everything they need in Christ. The passage serves as a reminder to remain faithful, grounded in Christ, and alert to false teachings that seek to lead believers astray. The fundamental test of any religious teaching is, “Where does it put Jesus Christ—His person and His work?” Does it rob Him of His fullness? Does it deny either His deity or His humanity? Does it affirm that the believer must have some “new experience” to supplement his experience with Christ? If so, that teaching is wrong and dangerous.           In summary, Paul warns the Colossians against being taken captive by the empty deception of worldly philosophy and legalism. Instead, he emphasizes the fullness found in Christ, where all who God the Father is dwells in bodily form, and believers are already made complete in Him.   Mark 8:36 "For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul?              John 14:6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me. Have you trusted Him as your Savior? He can Save you if You ask Him based on His death, burial, and resurrection for your sins. Believe in Him for forgiveness of your sins today.               “And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”  -John 8:32             Our mission is to spread the gospel and to go to the least of these with the life-changing message of Jesus Christ; We reach out to those the World has forgotten.              hisloveministries.podbean.com #HLMSocial hisloveministries.net https://www.instagram.com/hisloveministries1/?hl=en His Love Ministries on Itunes Don't go for all the gusto you can get, go for all the God (Jesus Christ) you can get. https://youtu.be/zf410_hZWe8?si=WJ-KX3X6QY9ht6tm Chill Christmas - 2 - Navigating Holiday Chaos Chill Christmas Bumper?   Welcome to Redemption Church of Plano Tx. My name is Chris Fluitt!   Merry Christmas! Chill Christmas Title   We are in the 2nd week of our message Series – Chill Christmas.   Last week we told you…   DO NOT breathe life into traditions…Choose traditions that breathe life into you.   We talked about the hope that lights up dark times.   Today I want to talk to you about Navigating Holiday Chaos.   Navigating Holiday Chaos   Is your schedule chaotic?Thank you for being here today…   Which picture does your family look like?Family Picture   Which picture do you feel like?   Is this a peaceful time? …and why not?World: Constantly at war.In 2024 -56 ongoing national conflicts.-involving 92 nations.Last year- 162,000 war deathsThis year's numbers will be similar. Even stable democratic nations like South Korea are lacking peace. This week that National government experienced a coup, and declared martial law.   Here in the US we are not at peace. No “weapons live” active war… but lacking peace.   -Political divide (Holiday withdraw)-Relationship struggles -$$$ - “The average American is expected to spend $1,778 per person.” (https://www.cbsnews.com/news/holiday-spending-forecast/)-Youth – School & social media – NO ONE FITS IN – BULLY ONE ANOTHER. -Mental & physical health   Family Picture Chances are good that you are not the peaceful family in this picture…   Chances are you are stressed out, burned out, and feeling left out.   And yet the Bible says this about the Christmas season…   Luke 2:1413 Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying, 14 “Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.”   Other translations “Peace on Earth, Good will to men.”   Christmas should be marked with Peace… but what exactly does that mean?   Does peace mean…-No chaos?-No more wars?-No more $$ problems? -No more relationship struggles?   PEACE does not mean any of this. News to you?  Rethink Peace  At the Birth of Jesus the Angel's declared “PEACE ON EARTH…”  BUT the the world Jesus was born into was not perfect… but broken.  There was still chaos……darkness…wars…murder & death…poverty…relationship issues  Let's rethink peace.Peace does NOT mean problem free   Even though the Light of Jesus came… still evil and darkness. Jesus was born in the middle of a war torn nation, under the occupation of a brutal empire called Rome.Jesus was born, and a self made “king” Herod started killing all the young boys in order to protect his power.   Jesus was born, and yet still poverty was around… and racism… and prejudice… and sexism…   Jesus was born and his mother Mary was still thought of scandalously because of the miraculous birth.   Let's rethink peace. You can have problems and still have peace.   This is why the angel declared peace in the middle of chaos.     What is peace? How do you define it?What if our definition is differently from God's definition?   Shalom (šālôm) - Completeness   Peace is most often used to convey Completeness… wholeness… not lacking…   That is probably a different definition for us.That is likely the definition we need.   Isaiah 9:6: For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called wonderful counselor, mighty God, everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.  When we call Jesus our PRINCE OF PEACE… we are saying that He is the ruler, the authority, the leader… that makes us whole and complete.   This season is not PEACEFUL because we are always looking for one more thing…   Imagine if we could say and truly mean that we have EVERYTHING WE NEED. That would be peaceful. Not chaotic.   This is why Jesus came. He came to provide EVERYTHING you need. His life and example showed that He was always providing everything people needed.

This enables organisations to make informed decisions that align with their sustainability goals, reduce waste, and promote ethical practices throughout their supply chain.MDM is the foundation of a successful sustainability strategy. By providing a single source of truth for all critical data, MDM helps businesses monitor and track their sustainability efforts effectively. With accurate data, companies can identify opportunities to improve resource efficiency, reduce carbon footprints, and ensure compliance with environmental standards, ultimately leading to a more sustainable and resilient business model. In this episode, George Firican, Founder of LightsOnData, speaks to Matthew Cawsey, Director of Product Marketing and Solution Strategy, and Paarijat Bose, Customer Success Manager at Stibo Systems, to discuss sustainable sourcing and why accurate data matters. Key Takeaways:Sustainable sourcing involves understanding the provenance and environmental impact of products, ensuring compliance with regulations, and meeting sustainability goals.Data completeness and accuracy are crucial in meeting regulatory requirements and avoiding issues like greenwashing.Managing sustainability data requires a solid foundation of MDM to ensure data accuracy, stewardship, and semantic consistency.MDM solutions help companies collect, manage, and share sustainability data, enabling them to meet compliance requirements and achieve their sustainability goals.Chapters:00:00 - Introduction and Overview01:07 - The Challenge of Collecting Data for Compliance and Reporting02:31 - Data Accuracy and Completeness in the Supply Chain05:23 - Regulations and the Demand for Transparent and Complete Data08:41 - The Role of Master Data Management in Sustainability15:51 - How Data Management Technology Solutions Help Achieve Sustainability Goals21:02 - The Need to Start Early and Engage with Data Management Solutions22:01 - Conclusion and Call to Action

In this episode we delve into the complexities of relationships, particularly focusing on the end of relationships and how we can perceive them as complete. I share insights from her experience working with a client going through a divorce, emphasizing the importance of accepting reality as it is. I discuss commonly felt emotions during a breakup, such as grief, sadness, and frustration. It's important to process these emotions instead of resisting them. I am suggesting adopting a different perspective: viewing the relationship as complete, just as it was meant to be, to reduce suffering and bring a sense of peace and ease. This approach can be applied to any relationship, providing a healthier way to navigate the pain of endings. 00:39 Episode 79: Relationships Can Be Complete00:53 Understanding the Pain of Relationship Endings03:22 Accepting Reality and Finding Closure04:52 The Concept of Completeness in Relationships07:02 Advice for Moving On10:27 Final Thoughts Book a consult call and learn more about my newest program, the 6 Week Jumpstart to Building a Better Relationship with Yourself. Saturday, 13 July 2024   and Jesse begot David the king. David the king begot Solomon by her who had been the wife of Uriah. Matthew 1:6   “And Jesse begot David, the king. And David, the king, begot Solomon from the of Uriah” (CG).   The previous verse finished with the begetting of Jesse by Obed. The account continues now with, “And Jesse begot David.”   David is first recorded in Ruth 4:17 –   “‘There is a son born to Naomi. And they called his name Obed. He is the father of Jesse, the father of David.”   He is mentioned again at the completion of the genealogy of Ruth 4 which also closes out the book of Ruth –   “Obed begot Jesse, and Jesse begot David.” Ruth 4:22   David means Beloved. Of him, Matthew next notes he is “the king.”   Instead of saying And Jesse begot King David, the title is set apart with the use of an article. This emphasizes him as the one having been highlighted in Matthew 1:1. Matthew is focusing on David's coming as the next great event in this chronology. Abraham and David were mentioned in verse 1. From there, Matthew noted the names of the males from Abraham to David with the two key intervening female names of Rahab and Ruth being included as well.   Including the title of David with the article, therefore, offsets him as a key figure on which the narrative is focusing. His life was used time and again as a type of Christ. He is also the king to whom the messianic promise was given. Matthew is using him to support the biblical narrative that ultimately is provided to lead to the knowledge that Jesus truly is the promised Messiah.   Now, with this link from Abraham to David set, Matthew immediately continues the list, saying, “And David, the king, begot Solomon.”   Some manuscripts do not include the repeated words “the king.” However, it appears that this is an additional effort by Matthew to highlight the importance of who King David is as the genealogy now continues with his own progeny. The kingly line is set, the promise of an eternal kingdom through David was made (2 Samuel 7), and that honorable line now proceeds from David to Solomon.   The name Solomon (Hebrew Shlomoh) is derived from the Hebrew shalem, to be complete, sound, etc. Thus, his name means Peace, Peaceful, Recompence, Fair Penalty, Completeness, or some other closely associated thought.   Solomon is first listed in a listing of David's sons born in Jerusalem in 2 Samuel 5:14. Of him, it next says that he was born “from the of Uriah.”   At times, biblical Greek carries nuances that require inferences to be made. The text says ek tēs tou Ouriou, “from the [fem. sg.] the [masc. sg.] Uriah.” The meaning is “from the [wife of the man] Uriah.” The account of David sleeping with the wife of Uriah and then having him killed, along with the resulting consequences of his actions, is found in 2 Samuel 11 and 12. When the tragic account is complete, the next thing introduced into the narrative says –   “Then David comforted Bathsheba his wife, and went in to her and lay with her. So she bore a son, and he called his name Solomon. Now the Lord loved him, 25 and He sent word by the hand of Nathan the prophet: So he called his name Jedidiah, because of the Lord.” 2 Kings 12:24, 25   One can see the idea of recompense or fair penalty in how the events played out. Thus, the name Solomon was given to the child. Of this son, Solomon, we read the words of 1 Kings 1 –   “Then King David answered and said, ‘Call Bathsheba to me.' So she came into the king's presence and stood before the king. 29 And the king took an oath and said, ‘As the Lord lives, who has redeemed my life from every distress, 30 just as I swore to you by the Lord God of Israel, saying, “Assuredly Solomon your son shall be king after me, and he shall sit on my throne in my place,” so I certainly will do this day.'” 1 Kings 1:28-30   David had determined to place Solomon on the throne after him. However, there was an attempt to overthrow this decision by another of the king's sons. In order to thwart that, David ordered that Solomon be crowned king while he was still alive. Therefore, it is from Solomon that the line continues in Matthew's record.   Life application: Psalm 51 was written in response to David's sin against the Lord in the matter of Bathsheba, the wife of Uriah the Hittite. David poured out his heart to the Lord in repentance, and by penning it in a psalm, he did it in a manner that the whole world has been able to read and contemplate for millennia.   David did this at various times in his life. He would face tragedy, and he would stop and pen a psalm (e.g. psalm 3). In being relieved from a distressing situation, he would write a psalm (e.g. Psalm 4). David would place his heart on full display for the world to see and contemplate his relationship with God.   Although we do not need to write a psalm while being pursued by our enemies as David did (Psalm 57), we can learn from these psalms what pleases God in our interactions with Him. He has chosen these various writings, having placed them in His word, to show us that the words were acceptable to Him.   In reading and pondering them, we are reminded that God is worthy of praise in all situations, that He is with us at all times, and that His word is true and reliable as it points to the coming of Christ and the fulfillment of the messianic promises. And because it is reliable concerning the coming of Jesus, we can be certain that it is reliable in regard to the promises that are granted to us because of Jesus having come.   Let us read the word, hold fast to the promises God has made to us in Christ, not waffling or floundering in our convictions. Through stress, distress, and even calamity, we can hold fast to the sure promises that are granted to us because of the coming of Christ. Let us do so, to the glory of God who has made those sure promises.   O God, we are so grateful to You for Your word. It is a comfort to our souls, it is a treasure stored up, it is a light beaming forth, and it is a guide on our path of life. Your word, O God, is especially so wonderfully beautiful because it tells us of Jesus. Thank You that because of Your word, we have the absolute assurance of eternal life which comes through the completed work of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Hi mamas. Today, I'm excited to have Joy Netanya Thompson on the podcast. Joy is a writer who covers the intersection of motherhood, culture and identity and whose writing has appeared on sites like Parents, Motherwell, Romper, Coffee & Crumbs, and she's also the author of the substack newsletter, Midweek Joy. She lives in LA with her husband and 8-year-old daughter.  This is a rich and raw episode where Joy shares with me her experience of becoming a mother, the traumatic birth of her daughter and how this, amongst other factors including postpartum depression, shaped her decision to have no more children. We discuss the inner conflict this decision has brought about for us both, the considerations of both our own needs and those of our existing children in this decision, and how the lack of societal and personal support plays a role in this too.  In this beautiful conversation, we also discuss:The journey to knowing yourself better through motherhood, in terms of the mirrors your children hold up which allow you to see yourself in a more honest and truthful light than what you might have experienced before. We discuss parts work and the journey of seeing and accepting the different parts of ourselves that live within us and have been shaped by our own childhoods. Our experiences of mothering without a blueprint, how this can play out with regard to our desire to parent differently, and the process of reparenting while parenting.  Joy's experience of birth, her feelings of failure surrounding it and her journey towards acceptance. We also touch on her experience with EMDR as treatment for this trauma.   The beauty of the moments where we delight in our children, the honour of having a front-row seat on our children's lives, and the importance of them feeling this love above all else. And so much more. I hope you enjoy listening to this conversation today as much as I loved having it.  Here is where you can find out more about me (Yara), how to work with me and some resources: Why Am I So Angry Workshop *** Waitlist for The Rebirth, Group Coaching for Mamas ***This is my signature 3 months online group coaching container for mothers which covers family of origin, inner child work, nervous system basics, anger, boundaries and much more.  @lifeafterbirthpsychology   www.lifeafterbirth.com.au Free Inner Critic Workbook Free Values Aligned Living Workbook  Find out more about Joy: @joynetanyathompson www.joynetanyathompson.com Looking for support for anger while you mother? We consider captivity as a judgment upon the church of God. We consider Jeremiah 29, where the LORD forces His people to accept the judgment and teaches them again what its purpose is and what to expect from it. This is very instructive to us as we consider God's chastisement upon His western church today.

Welcome to The Nonlinear Library, where we use Text-to-Speech software to convert the best writing from the Rationalist and EA communities into audio. This is: Understanding Gödel's completeness theorem, published by jessicata on May 28, 2024 on LessWrong. In this post I prove a variant of Gödel's completeness theorem. My intention has been to really understand the theorem, so that I am not simply shuffling symbols around, but am actually understanding why it is true. I hope it is helpful for at least some other people. For sources, I have myself relied mainly on Srivastava's presentation. I have relied a lot on intuitions about sequent calculus; while I present a sequent calculus in this post, this is not a complete introduction to sequent calculus. I recommend Logitext as an online proof tool for gaining more intuition about sequent proofs. I am familiar with sequent calculus mainly through type theory. First-order theories and models A first-order theory consists of: A countable set of functions, which each have an arity, a non-negative integer. A countable set of predicates, which also have non-negative integer arities. A countable set of axioms, which are sentences in the theory. Assume a countably infinite set of variables. A term consists of either a variable, or a function applied to a number of terms equal to its arity. An atomic sentence is a predicate applied to a number of terms equal to its arity. A sentence may be one of: an atomic sentence. a negated sentence, P. a conjunction of sentences, PQ. a universal, x,P, where x is a variable. Define disjunctions (PQ:=(PQ)), implications (PQ:=(PQ)), and existentials (x,P:=x,P) from these other terms in the usual manner. A first-order theory has a countable set of axioms, each of which are sentences. So far this is fairly standard; see Peano arithmetic for an example of a first-order theory. I am omitting equality from first-order theories, as in general equality can be replaced with an equality predicate and axioms. A term or sentence is said to be closed if it has no free variables (that is, variables which are not quantified over). A closed term or sentence can be interpreted without reference to variable assignments, similar to a variable-free expression in a programming language. Let a constant be a function of arity zero. I will make the non-standard assumption that first-order theories have a countably infinite set of constants which do not appear in any axiom. This will help in defining inference rules and proving completeness. Generally it is not a problem to add a countably infinite set of constants to a first-order theory; it does not strengthen the theory (except in that it aids in proving universals, as defined below). Before defining inference rules, I will define models. A model of a theory consists of a set (the domain of discourse), interpretations of the functions (as mapping finite lists of values in the domain to other values), and interpretations of predicates (as mapping finite lists of values in the domain to Booleans), which satisfies the axioms. Closed terms have straightforward interpretations in a model, as evaluating the expression (as if in a programming language). Closed sentences have straightforward truth values, e.g. the formula P is true in a model when P is false in the model. Judgments and sequent rules A judgment is of the form ΓΔ, where Γ and Δ are (possibly infinite) countable sets of closed sentences. The judgment is true in a model if at least one of Γ is false or at least one of Δ is true. As notation, if Γ is a set of sentences and P is a sentence, then Γ,P denotes Γ{P}. The inference rules are expressed as sequents. A sequent has one judgment on the bottom, and a finite set of judgments on top. Intuitively, it states that if all the judgments on top are provable, the rule yields a proof of the judgment on the bottom. Along the way, I will show that each rule is sound: if every judgment on the top is true in all models, then t...

She also delves into how businesses can use time pressure to drive sales but emphasizes the need to test different approaches.  Melina also touches on the impact of time pressure on creativity and productivity, highlighting the importance of clear communication to reduce misunderstandings and time pressure. Her advice is helpful for anyone looking to make informed decisions and resist impulse buying during holiday shopping. Plus, her insights on leveraging time pressure for business are equally valuable. So, if you want to understand the psychology of time pressure and how to navigate it, this episode is definitely worth a listen! In this episode: Discover the psychology of time pressure to understand its impact on decision-making. Explore the influence of time pressure on consumer behavior and decision-making processes. Learn effective strategies to resist impulse buying and make informed purchasing decisions. Uncover how to leverage time pressure in marketing to drive consumer engagement and action. Find ways to reduce time pressure for increased productivity and better decision-making. Show Notes: 00:00:00 - Introduction This episode introduces the topic of time pressure and its impact on consumer behavior and decision-making. Melina shares her personal experience of feeling time pressure while buying concert tickets. 00:03:35 - The Complexity of Decision-Making The subconscious brain makes the majority of our decisions due to its faster processing speed. However, considering every facet of a decision would be overwhelming. Time pressure can lead to less effective decision-making and reduce creativity. 00:07:41 - Time Pressure and Consumer Behavior Time pressure during the holidays can influence consumer behavior. Limited quantities, daily deals, and shopping cart clocks create a sense of urgency. Under time pressure, people are more likely to make impulsive purchases and choose familiar, expensive options. 00:09:52 - Shifting Decision-Making Under Time Pressure Time pressure can reverse how we evaluate choices. With plenty of time, we tend to be risk-averse and focus on the risks of making a choice. However, under time pressure, we become loss-averse and fear missing out (FOMO), leading to impulsive buying behavior. 00:10:43 - Tips for Managing Time Pressure To manage time pressure during holiday shopping, create a gift list with spending limits. Plan ahead and have a list of stores to visit or browse online. Having a plan helps resist impulsive purchases and stay within budget. 00:15:52 - Importance of Promotions and Offers Promotions and offers are beneficial for businesses as they help consumers make decisions. Time pressure can be incorporated through discounts or limited-time offers, creating a sense of urgency. Countdowns and limited quantities also drive action. 00:18:15 - Effect of Time Pressure on Consumer Behavior Time pressure impacts decision-making by shifting individuals from being risk averse to loss averse. The perception of limited time changes behavior and motivates action. People are more likely to act quickly when faced with the possibility of missing out on an opportunity. 00:20:25 - Black Friday Deals and Year-End Offers Small businesses should consider if participating in Black Friday or year-end offers is necessary or beneficial. While big retailers are expected to have such deals, small businesses might get lost in the clutter. It's important to be thoughtful and not feel pressured to offer discounts that may result in operating at a loss. 00:22:53 - Impact of Time Pressure on Decision-Making Time pressure causes individuals to focus on extremes and make decisions based on worst-case and best-case scenarios. This may lead to less creativity and accuracy in decision-making. Working with more time allows for better planning and higher-quality outcomes. 00:26:41 - Overcoming Mindset Blocks and Alleviating Time Pressure Constantly being under time pressure can hinder productivity and quality of work. Overcoming mindset blocks and planning effectively can alleviate time pressure and improve creativity and decision-making.  00:31:02 - Evaluating Time Pressure Taking time to evaluate the impact of time pressure and asking key questions can help make confident decisions and use time pressure to your advantage. 00:31:53 - The Effects of Time Pressure Time pressure can hinder creativity, openness to change, and solid work in businesses. Clear communication and reducing unnecessary tasks can help alleviate time pressure. 00:33:02 - Misunderstood Emails Misunderstood emails contribute to wasted time and decreased productivity. Improving email clarity and simplicity can help reduce time pressure. 00:33:39 - Tips to Reduce Time Pressure Implementing strategies like clearer communication, simpler answers, and reducing unnecessary tasks can save significant time for employees. 00:34:46 - Conclusion Melina's top insights from the conversation. In episode 73 of Being in the Arena, Zach Arend addresses a common concern—how to feel like you're doing enough in all aspects of life. He tackles this question by challenging the notion of "doing enough" and emphasizes the importance of focusing on feelings of peace, fulfillment, and completeness. Zach shares insights gained from personal experiences, coaching interactions, and invites listeners to shift their perspective from the relentless pursuit of doing enough to embracing a sense of peace and contentment in the present moment. Offering practical advice, he encourages a shift in mindset and highlights the power of choosing peace over the constant striving for accomplishment. In this episode, Change Coach Alex Linares and I discuss turning toward everything. Thoughts. Questions. Doubt. Discomfort. Seeking. We explore how subtle, immediate, and complete everything is (which, not surprisingly, is the exact opposite of how thought often portrays it). We feel this completeness when we immerse in it. We discuss how questions, doubts and seeking burn The post EP285: The completeness of everything  appeared first on Dr. Amy Johnson.

We're blessed to hear from our Teaching and Creative Pastor, Brant Cole, this morning as he brings us a message in our new series called "Colossians: The Complete Life". Today, he walks us through one of the most glorious descriptions in the Bible of Jesus Christ in Colossians 1. And then the message points to how believers should revere, revolve around, and reveal Christ in all our lives. "Reveal the story of Christ in you, the hope of glory!" - Pastor Brant Cole

LW - Goal-Completeness is like Turing-Completeness for AGI by Liron

Welcome to The Nonlinear Library, where we use Text-to-Speech software to convert the best writing from the Rationalist and EA communities into audio. This is: Goal-Completeness is like Turing-Completeness for AGI, published by Liron on December 20, 2023 on LessWrong. Turing-completeness is a useful analogy we can use to grasp why AGI will inevitably converge to "goal-completeness". By way of definition: An AI whose input is an arbitrary goal, which outputs actions to effectively steer the future toward that goal, is goal-complete. A goal-complete AI is analogous to a Universal Turing Machine: its ability to optimize toward any other AI's goal is analogous to a UTM's ability to run any other TM's same computation. Let's put the analogy to work: Imagine the year is 1970 and you're explaining to me how all video games have their own logic circuits. You're not wrong, but you're also apparently not aware of the importance of Turing-completeness and why to expect architectural convergence across video games. Flash forward to today. The fact that you can literally emulate Doom inside of any modern video games (through a weird tedious process with a large constant-factor overhead, but still) is a profoundly important observation: all video games are computations. More precisely, two things about the Turing-completeness era that came after the specific-circuit era are worth noticing: The gameplay specification of sufficiently-sophisticated video games, like most titles being released today, embeds the functionality of Turing-complete computation. Computer chips replaced application-specific circuits for the vast majority of applications, even for simple video games like Breakout whose specified behavior isn't Turing-complete. Expecting Turing-Completeness From Gwern's classic page, Surprisingly Turing-Complete: [Turing Completeness] is also weirdly common: one might think that such universality as a system being smart enough to be able to run any program might be difficult or hard to achieve, but it turns out to be the opposite - it is difficult to write a useful system which does not immediately tip over into TC. "Surprising" examples of this behavior remind us that TC lurks everywhere, and security is extremely difficult... Computation is not something esoteric which can exist only in programming languages or computers carefully set up, but is something so universal to any reasonably complex system that TC will almost inevitably pop up unless actively prevented. The Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) language that web pages use for styling HTML is a pretty representative example of surprising Turing Completeness: If you look at any electronic device today, like your microwave oven, you won't see a microwave-oven-specific circuit design. What you'll see in virtually every device is the same two-level architecture: A Turing-complete chip that can run any program An installed program specifying application-specific functionality, like a countdown timer It's a striking observation that your Philips Sonicare toothbrush and the guidance computer on the Apollo moonlander are now architecturally similar. But with a good understanding of Turing-completeness, you could've predicted it half a century ago. You could've correctly anticipated that the whole electronics industry would abandon application-specific circuits and converge on a Turing-complete architecture. Expecting Goal-Completeness If you don't want to get blindsided by what's coming in AI, you need to apply the thinking skills of someone who can look at a Breakout circuit board in 1976 and understand why it's not representative of what's coming. When people laugh off AI x-risk because "LLMs are just a feed-forward architecture!" or "LLMs can only answer questions that are similar to something in their data!" I hear them as saying "Breakout just computes simple linear motion!" or "You can't play Doom inside Breakout!" OK, BECAUSE AI HASN'T CONVERGED TO GOAL-COMPLETENESS YET. We're not ...

Humans have limited information processing abilities and cannot possibly evaluate all possible options when making a decision. However, describing people merely as irrational paints an inaccurate picture. There can be benefits to the biases we hold.  Author of Optimally Irrational: The Good Reasons We Behave the Way We Do Lionel Page PhD, joins Kurt Nelson and Tim Houlihan on Behavioral Grooves Podcast to talk about his book. Lionel is a French-born economist who is currently working as the Director of the Behavioural and Economic Science Cluster at the University of Queensland in Australia.  Among the topics Lionel discusses is the hedonic treadmill and how happiness is always just ahead of us. Our subjective satisfaction system is designed to keep us motivated by focusing on future goals. However, once we achieve those goals, we move on to the next. Anticipated utility and loss aversion become a powerful motivational combination. Our motivations for decisions are complex. But intentionality can help make up for some of the inconsistencies in our decision making. Topics  (1:51) Speed round questions. (3:13) Is overconfidence beneficial or not beneficial? (6:06) What is rational and irrational behavior? (11:34) Why it is so important to define a field of work. (14:09) Why is it so difficult for us to ask for what we want? (17:31) Completeness helps us to find missing points. (22:38) Happiness is actually connected to loss aversion.
