Lynn Tincher, paranormal investigator from Beyond This Life Paranormal and a Co-host Weirdos In The Wild podcast. Lynn was born just outside of Louisville, Kentucky in the beautiful City of La Grange. One of her fondest memories of growing up was when her English teacher read a short story she wrote in front of the students of Oldham County High School. Since then, her love for writing blossomed. She studied Theater Arts at Eastern Kentucky University hoping to become a Drama/English teacher. Lynn had several articles published in local magazines and online, but the thought of writing a novel always stuck with her. Inspired by Nora Roberts, JK Rowling, and Greg Iles, Lynn wrote Afterthoughts, the first book in the Mind Bending Series, a fictional psychological crime series that follows the life of a young Louisville Police detective named Paige Aldridge. Blackwyrm Fiction picked up Afterthoughts for publication in 2008. When she signed the contract, it landed Lynn on the center page for a story in Leo Weekly. Since then, Lynn released Left in the Dark, Buried Deep, Where There is Light, and the fifth book, Junna will release soon. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/scott-wise9/message

Shelley Moore Capito: So using ethane from Natural Gas as a feedstock means that chemical companies can choose to operate in West Virginia due to the enormous benefits of being right on top of the resource. That's why, again, I included language in the energy bill that will require the Department of Energy and Commerce to conduct a study to look at the feasibility of an ethane storage and distribution hub here in Appalachia, in West Virginia or in the region. 11:34 - 12:00 Sen. Joe Manchin: In 2016 Annual Energy Outlook, the EIA projected that even in a clean power plan scenario, coal and natural gas will make up approximately half of our electric generation mix in 2040. We talk about deniers you know, there's those who deny that there's climate change going on. And there's those who deny that we're going to be needing fossil for the next two, three or four decades. 12:50 - 13:33 Sen. Joe Manchin: Infrastructure, we must put the necessary infrastructure in place to take advantage of the robust opportunities that come from our abundant natural resources, while ensuring the reliability of our electric grid. And I will mention one thing. I've spoken to a lot of our state legislators. And I said, we've got to start thinking in terms of regional energy have Mid-Atlantic energy, regions such as the southwest, we should be looking at Pennsylvania and Ohio as part of this region, not the borders that separate us but basically the ability that we have to work together, build these pipelines that basically keep some of this product in this market area. To attract it, they say, build it and they will come. I truly believe if you have it, they will come but you have to have access to it. 18:42 - 19:00 Brian Anderson: Over the last 10 years production of ethane and propane at the Marcellus and Utica Shales have driven the cost of these very valuable raw materials to a price point well below global and national prices. Connecting this valuable resource to the national and global markets will take modern, robust infrastructure, the topic of this hearing. 19:01 - 19:13 Brian Anderson: I contend that the types of infrastructure necessary to benefit both the region and the nation is not only a reliable modern network of pipelines but also a robust regional system with natural gas liquid storage and distribution 20:12 - 20:28 Brian Anderson: With current production rates in the in the basin, around 500,000 barrels per day, the resource is certainly sufficient to support a renewed and robust chemical industry. That is, as long as there is modern and robust energy transportation infrastructure to support that. 21:42 - 22:32 Brian Anderson: The goal of this project is to provide essential data to support the development of the chemical manufacturing industry, promoting economic development. As evidenced by the industry's commitment to our project, developing storage and transportation infrastructure is a critical pathway to developing the industry in the region. Subsurface storage and distribution and a network of pipelines will benefit both the raw material producers -- the upstream oil and gas industry -- as well as the chemical industry by fostering a readily available and reliable network and research and source of natural gas liquids, developing a predictable price point of the commodity in the region. Currently, there is only one spot pricing for natural gas liquids in the United States and Gulf Coast. And thirdly, promoting regional investment in a more robust ecosystem for the industry. 38:55 - 39:50 Steven Hedrick: Rather than exporting additional ethane available via pipelines in the United States Gulf Coast to Europe, Asia or even Canada, it could be utilized here in the Appalachian Basin, here in America, to maximize the value potential of our raw materials. According to the publication the Natural Gas Intelligence, ethane accounts for more than 50% of the typical barrel in the Appalachian region, with exports now leading market spoke near Philadelphia. I think production has been increasing in the region. In fact, administering company MPLX's CEO Gary Heminger recently said with incremental ethane takeaway projects and the projected completion of a regional cracker facility, we anticipate reaching full utilization of our existing facilities. In other words, we need more infrastructure and companies like Shell need more elasticity in the supply chain in order to maximize the benefit of ethane. 39:48 - 40:41 Steven Hedrick: We would propose that the corridors naturally created by the Ohio and Kunal rivers be utilized as a platform for a substantial pipe system that will support the distribution of key raw material and intermediate constituents, including but not limited to, methane, ethane, ethylene, propane, propylene, and chlorine all of which are significant building blocks to the petrochemical industry and hence our society. We therefore must add substantial underground storage to the highest value of broadly used raw materials, specifically ethane, ethylene and propane and butane if we're able to create a built for purpose Appalachian storage hub. This can be safely and efficiently done and naturally occurring underground caverns in depleted natural gas extraction points, or even in depleted salt domes. In fact, the brightest minds in geological formations are currently studying the best locations for the hub. 1:34:03 - 1:35:40 Sen Joe Manchin: So I've come to the conclusion of this, the only way that we're ever going to is follow the dollars, the tax credits, extenders. They've been pouring more and more tax credits and extenders into renewables. And the only thing I'm going to say if that's the policy direction, and we can't collectively stop some of this other thing, when you have an administration desire to do something as they've done, we could at least say this, it makes all the sense in the world, if you're going to use these tax extenders, they call them tax extenders, they're credits, they give them credits if they do certain things in certain fields. So for moving to solar, or hydro, or wind and all this, those credits should only be used in a germane energy, that's where the losses were. So if the losses came from areas such as West Virginia and such as southwest Virginia, and such as Kentucky, those credits have to be used there. It makes all the sense in the world. We're gonna do every -- I'm gonna do everything I can just to shut the system down the next time, because trust me, they love tax credits. The wind people ain't letting tax credits go, solar'snot letting tax credits go. So I'm saying how do you argue against at least using the credits if you're going to get them? We'll build the best windmills, Danny. Our guys can build windmills. We can build solar, we can build anything you want. Just give us a chance. And that's what I am most upset about is no plan. There was no plan for a major policy shift in energy. And that's what we've got to correct I think, as quickly as possible to give us all a chance to survive in this tough area. Our guest today is Minda Honey, a woman who is talented and busy with lots of irons in the fire. She is a local writer, the new director of Spalding University's Creative Writing program, as well as the creator of LEO Weekly's advice column, Ask Minda Honey, where she gives her answers to all those relationship questions you've been dying to ask. We are going to talk all about the queen of Black American literature, Toni Morrison and what other books you should check out if you want to see Morrison's influence on the new generation of black writers. She also speaks to the best ways to make opportunities for yourself if you are a writer as well as her new plan to motivate people to read more with the age old incentive; money. You can follow her on Instagram and Twitter at @MindaHoney and you can find her bi-weekly advice column on leoweekly.com. “Although Manning has been lauded throughout the country for his work — garnering accolades from some of the major poets of our time, like W.S. Merwin, in addition to the numerous awards he has received — he has found his place in this literary life, wearing it now as effortlessly as the patterned chambray shirts he favors. He is a man of the people, intent on bringing poetry and scenes of rural beauty to them, words of the past, but also the present — the poetry of preservation, of all of us." —Jason Howard, Leo Weekly

Born in 1957 as 1 of 14 children to the late Mel & Norma Meiners, Terry attributes his success to a strong German Catholic work ethic-oriented childhood, which laid the foundation to his now legendary 1985 move to WHAS-Radio. Prior to WHAS, Meiners worked with Ron Clay as the co-host of “The Show With No Name,” a morning drive-time program on Louisville rock station WQMF-FM. These 2 provided edgy humor to Louisville’s airwaves,  in fact, WQMF hired Clay & Meiners away from rival station WLRS-FM, where the duo hosted the risque “Morning Sickness” show from 1981 to 1983. At WHAS-Radio, The Terry Meiners Show has aired weekday afternoons since 1985 to present. Meiners is known for broadcasting impersonations of prominent local citizens & satirical interviews of eclectic news figures, comedians, film/TV stars, & politicians. Plus, the lampooning of (U of L) Cardinals fans & of (UK) Wildcats fans is never far away! Academy Award-winning actress Jennifer Lawrence (yes that one) refers to Meiners as “my 1st celebrity” friend & claims he “still makes me starstruck.” OH MY!  Meiners has received numerous awards such as: Mag.’s “Best Radio Personality” award 20 times! KY Monthly mag.’s & the Leo Weekly’s “Best Radio Personality” Along with television news anchor Rachel Platt, Meiners co-hosts the WHAS Crusade for Children, the long-running annual local telethon benefiting children’s charities, as well as, emcee duties &/or promotional work for Metro United Way, the Homeless Coalition, Dare to Care Food Bank, Louisville Metro Police Fdtn., & the Yum! Brands fundraisers for World Food Program. Today, Meiners is a co-host of weekday mornings’ “Great Day Live” (news, knowledge, & nonsense) with WHAS-TV news anchor Rachel Platt.Terry has described his job as interviewing people from all walks of life and let them tell their stories. Funny I can relate to that & we are about to do just that!  Terry has an abundantly happy life as a blended family with 2 sons named Max & Simon Meiners, both morally & ethically strong young men, he proclaims, & stepfather to his beautiful wife Mary George Meiners’ children Aidan & Grace, & if he has nothing else to do, Terry is an avid golfer, marathon runner & private pilot!

While this was a significant milepost for our trip, and we’ve enjoyed sharing this content first - it’s actually a bit of a departure from the rest of our interviews.   When we heard they’d lined up an interview with Juan, we were excited, but I was also a little anxious.  I didn’t really know his story, and hadn’t read his book.  I took a deep breath and focused on a bit of an internal conversation. A little threadbare from the trip, I was also pretty into the interview groove, having just conducted just under twenty interviews in the thirteen days prior.  I thought aloud, “we’re going to count on the air of curiosity.”  Kyle and I joined up with Juan after his panel discussion in the Louisville Free Library, and headed to the basement for a chat, which included our new friend Lara from LEO Weekly.  Here’s Juan www.gonzofestlou.com Stories I Tell Myself - Juan F. Phelps drew national attention from news stations and radio shows in 2006, when he appeared in an ad campaign titled, “Wake Up Wal-Mart,” which brought to light the company’s record on child labor issues, gender discrimination, and poor healthcare plans. Phelps is also a published author and an occasional guest columnist for the Courier-Journal newspaper and Leo Weekly magazine, as well as EthicsDaily.com, where he also serves as a board member. Turn Me Loose: The Unghosting of Medgar Evars has garnered Kentucky's Poet Laureate, Frank X Walker, a nomination for an NAACP Image Award. He calls this book of 49 poems his finest work to date, and says it has an educational component along with its poetry. "The initial motivation was based on having a conversation with my students and finding out that they had no idea who Medgar Evers was." We spoke to Walker on this week's show about his life, his work, and what it means to be Affrilachian. Our Juicy Fruit segment this week looks at the man who got in trouble for paying too much child support, the chef who wants to ban babies from his restaurant, and CeCe McDonald's release from prison. And our very own Jaison Gardner filled us in on his new column, In Visible Ink, appearing every other week in LEO Weekly!
