Last November, in one of the most surprising stories of the general election, Gerard Hutch, the head of the Hutch organised crime gang, came close to securing the final seat in the Dublin Central constituency. The veteran criminal, better known as the Monk, had returned to take part in the election while on bail from Spanish authorities who were investigating money laundering. His surprise run for the Dáil was made while Irish Times crime and security correspondent Conor Gallagher was working on a new RTÉ documentary called AKA The Monk. Gallagher joins the podcast to discuss the two-part documentary into the life, and career, of Gerard Hutch. AKA The Monk is available now on the RTÉ Player.Presented by Sorcha Pollak. Send us a textGUEST: JOSH BUICE, Pastor of Pray's Mill Baptist Church (GA) and President G3 MinistriesFollowing the recent death of Jimmy Carter, the 39th president of the United States who served from 1977-1981, the headlines have been singing in unison:Jimmy Carter, a lifelong Baptist, left a legacy of faithfulness, compassion and justice (Baptist News):‘A shining example': Religious leaders praise the late former President Jimmy Carter (Religion News Services)Pope praises Jimmy Carter's ‘deep Christian faith' (US Conference of Catholic Bishops)Setting aside the widespread perception that Carter's one-term presidency was feckless—stagnant economy, fuel shortages, unresolved hostage ordeal with Iran—the paradox with Carter is that he professed to be a born-again Christian despite the fact that he was a proponent of abortion and homosexual “marriage”.How can a professed follower of God advocate for things so contrary to the Word of God? And why is he so lauded when other professing born again Christians are loathed? Our guest this weekend is Josh Buice. He is the pastor of Pray's Mill Baptist Church in Georgia and the founder and president of G3 Ministries. Josh will talk about Jimmy Carter and his faith along with other current issues in society and the church:Why Christians should seek the abolition of abortion and not be satisfied with incremental gains like heartbeat lawsHow Christians should think about pastors and the local church in light of the disqualification of preacher Steve LawsonWhat Christians should discern about the person and policies of Donald Trump, as he takes the oath of office on Mon, January 20.Be sure to tune in for this wide-ranging conversation.----------------------The Overcomer Course - registration open for June 20-21, 2025
On today's episode I am sitting down solo to chat about all things postpartum body image and body changes. I wanted to record this episode because if you are pregnant or navigating your own postpartum fitness journey – you are not alone. The female body is incredible, and you can be so proud of what you're capable of! Growing, nurturing and housing your little one for 9 months is life changing and mind blowing. But just as much as you can be in awe, it's also okay if you struggle with your body image, ever changing body or just miss the “old” version of you, too. It's okay to love your body while also longing for the version of yourself you used to know. It's also okay if you love your body, but also want to change certain parts of it. On today's episode, I'm here to create space for both. Come one come all! Okay maybe not ALL. This week's episode of Summers Off may prove to be one of the most risqué films we've done yet. We're talking about Paul Verhoeven's 1995 erotic drama, Showgirls (Rach's choice!). Loathed for its lewdness and beloved for its camp, Showgirls is a wild ride. You honestly just have to see it to believe it.
In a world of constant change and polarization, we often overlook the wisdom found in familiar places. Abraham Lincoln's plea, "I am loath to close," from his first inaugural address, offers a timeless lesson in unity and open-mindedness. This simple phrase reminds us of the importance of keeping conversations alive, especially when faced with disagreement or conflict. By embracing Lincoln's spirit of ongoing dialogue, we can foster a society that values diverse perspectives and works together to solve shared challenges.

The Daily Mail called him the “Sith Lord” of the art world, the New York Times annointed him as the art world's Patron Satan”, while the Wall Street Journal described him as the dealer the art world “loves to hate”. Californian voters aren't too keen on him either, with only 0.24% voting for him in January as the Republican candidate for Diane Feinstein's Senate seat. Yes, we're talking about Stefan Simchowitz, the notoriously disruptive Los Angeles based entrepreneur who has built an enormously controversial art empire. So why, I asked Malibu's self-styled enfant terrible, does almost everyone in the art world seem to hate him so much? And does he really believe, as he supposedly told another interviewer recently, that the US government should round up 150,000 homeless people in California and stick them into military camps?Stefan Simchowitz (born October 8, 1970) is the Los Angeles based art collector, art curator and art advisor who runs Simchowitz Gallery. He is a vocal proponent of social media as a legitimate way of discovering, distributing, and popularizing the fine arts, primarily using Facebook and Instagram as platforms for self-promotion, discovering new artists, and endorsing those he already manages.Named as one of the "100 most connected men" by GQ magazine, Andrew Keen is amongst the world's best known broadcasters and commentators. 'The Agents Angle' is joined in this episode by someone considered by many to be one of football's current 'super-agents', and one of the most prominent voices in the football agent world, Rafaela Pimenta. As well as being the agent for superstar players such as Erling Haaland (of Manchester City) and Henrikh Mkhitaryan (of Inter Milan), Rafaela talks to the show about 'The Football Forum', including the aims, objectives and challenges that face TFF (as a Global body for football agents and players) and the wider agent world, especially with the problems created by the FFAR (FIFA Football Agent Regulations). This includes, asking whether FIFA has employed a 'divide and conquer' strategy towards agents, whether FIFA's stance on FFAR is 'softening' and also considers the role of agent education, the 'manipulation' of the public image of agents and how TFF is not a 'Gentleman's Club' as some perceive it to be. 'The Agents Angle' also looks at the news that another 'superagent' and legend of the football agent world has announced their retirement. OSIRIS ISN'T mentioned in the Bible—at least, not directly. However, a loanword in Isaiah 14:19 suggests that the prophet Isaiah had the Egyptian god of the underworld in mind. The verse, as it's translated into English, is confusing: “[B]ut you are cast out, away from your grave, like a loathed branch…” It's assumed that the word netser, meaning “branch,” was what Isaiah wrote. However, scholar Christopher B. Hays argues convincingly that the word is a homonym for a well-known Egyptian word that means “divinized corpse”—a term often found in Egyptian texts about the god Osiris. We discuss the relationship between Osiris and Isis, the parallels to other pagan deities of the ancient Near East like El, Enlil, Dagon, Molech, Kronos, and Saturn, which are just different names for the same entity, and the connection to end times prophecy.

In this episode Sabine Baring Gould tackles the history and mystery surrounding the Brutal String of Child abductions and murders committed by one of the most illustrious Hero's of French History, and one of the most heinous serial murderers in Human History, the Marechal of France, Gilles De Retz. I covered this topic myself in Episode 12, but it bears hearing again and seeing the story from a different perspective. Come along for a ride through the French Countryside, and see what darkness lurks in the Hearts of Men.
We all know Tarzan being raised by ape was inevitable, but what if different ape?? Confused by the theory of evolution, the boys become wary of making apes too clever and get scared by what comes next. Zammit puts forward Bigfoot with their skills of hide and seek, Jackson suggests the Wifeless Wonder himself, Gorilla Grodd and his need for a human to be the face of his criminal empire while JD looks at the coconut throwing jewel thief that is Dunston from Dunston Checks In and how that orangutan cannot handle any form of criticism. But be it Bigfoot, Gorilla Grodd or Dunston we should all be thankful that Tarzan wasn't raised by the worst real ape: mandrill. A horrible and nasty creature. Loathed by all and the closest we have on god's green earth that resembles a xenomorph. If all dogs go to heaven, every mandrills goes to hell, where they flourish. Cheers to all that we Loved, Learned, and Loathed in 2022!After a solid soft launch of “Ohh, I'm lonely” we are summing up the year in a model closely related to many videos on my YouTube Channel. I go through some deep, and seriously not so deep things that have stuck with me over the year 2022 and hopefully beyond. We are constantly growing and changing and evolving and I hope I continue to grow into 2023. This year my word was ABUNDANCE and boyyyyy did that word encompass many a BIG feeling this year. In this episode Ellen and I discuss three "wicked" medieval women and the monastic authors who loathed them. We begin with the Anglo-Saxon Queen Ælfthryth, a champion of the Tenth-Century Benedictine Reform movement in England, who appears in the twelfth-century Liber Eliensis as a lascivious witch responsible for the murders of her stepson King Edward the Martyr and Byrhtnoth, the first abbot of Ely. We then turn to an early twelfth-century French countess, Sibyl of Porcien, a lascivious beauty whose adultery, according to Abbot Guibert of Nogent, caused a war between her first and second husbands, and who plotted the ruin and death of her stepson. We conclude with a late eleventh-century Norman female robber baron, Mabel of Belleme as she appears in Orderic Vitalis's Ecclesiastical History. In each case, Ellen and I discuss whether these women deserve their notoriety, and consider why the monks who told their stories portrayed them as wicked. The larger issue in this episode is, of course, medieval misogyny.

The Empowering Working Moms Podcast-Real Talk with Dr. Prianca Naik
In this episode you will learn: What self-love is How to practice it Why it is beneficial If you want to work with Coach Prianca Naik, MD, go to www.priancanaikmdcoaching.as.me to book a 30-minute consultation call. Follow Dr. Prianca on social media: https://www.facebook.com/prianca.naik https://www.instagram.com/stresscleansemd https://www.linkedin.com/in/prianca-naik-md-0524a196/ Today I want to talk about self-love because it is a tenet of peace, freedom, confidence and happiness. Without it you can't properly love others either or demonstrate healthy relationships to your children. Self-love. Sounds corny right? Corny or not, it's something we all need to learn. So many of us grew up watching Disney movies we were raised to find love and yet loving ourselves was never in the mix. I'm pretty sure we did love ourselves when we were born because we didn't know any better until things got in the way and destroyed that. Maybe we began to believe love from our parents was conditional or we could only be worthy of love if we were perfect or thin or achieving all of the things-a successful career etc. But I observe in my small children their love for themselves and try to take a cue! Let's try this: Being down with your weird and wonderful self We are multi-faceted, complex creatures. We have a ton of thoughts and feelings swirling around at all times. We do things we are not proud of sometimes. But we can learn, with work, determination and effort, to love ALL PARTS of ourselves. Whatttt? Yes, this is possible We don't have to hate anything about ourselves. I remember 7 years ago I told my therapist I loathed my anxiety. Loathed. That's such a strong word. I've come a long ways since then. I've developed methods to manage all emotions including anger and anxiety practicing mindfulness and no longer feel that way. Think about our attitudes toward dear friends or family members. Often we have compassion for them and their mistakes or whatever they perceive as negative. We will tell them not to be hard on themselves yet be so hard on ourselves. Learning to have compassion for ourselves is a key part of learning to love ourselves. Self-forgiveness as well. That is a practice that is a necessary in self-love. So how can you forgive yourself? Just a quick warning: this is deep internal work. It's not easy. But if you are interested in getting out of dysfunction or even into a better, less painful place, this is what is required. Going to tough places in your brain. So grab a pen and piece of paper…pause if you're driving or come back later. And write down what you believe to be all of your past mistakes. If you don't want to write them, simply brainstorm them. It may be a short or long list. Allow yourself to feel the negative emotions that accompany this reflection. Once you feel the negativity and sit with them, realizing it won't kill you…you also practice sitting in discomfort which is critical in leading a more peaceful, free life. And then you can move on. If you write these down on a sheet of paper you can rip the paper up and throw it after you've sat with your emotions. Now that we've addressed self-forgiveness you might be wondering how to go aobut learning to love yourself if you've listened this far: The process comes from Kamal Ravikant and his book Love Yourself Like Your Life Depends On It. In any new process we want our brain to automatically participate in, we must put in work. Self-directed neuroplasticity is when you intentionally rewire your brain to create positive habits. People do this primarily through active reflection. Yes, the term is a mouthful — but it's also a powerful, science-based method to break undesirable habits and create new, healthy ones What if you don't believe it? Doesn't matter. Your role is to lay down the pathway for doing it. Connect the neural pathways and your body and mind will respond automatically. Kamal Ravikant's process: Step 1: Mental Loop A thought loop is a pathway ebedded via use and habit. You can reverse this process. You can create your own focused mental loops. Repeat, “I love myself” again and again and again. Lay the pathway for that loop to run over and over. Eventually, it will take hold whether you believe it or not. Step 2: Meditation Each day, the author listens to a 7-minute piece of music that he likes and thinks, “I love myself.” Inhale > Think “I love myself” > Exhale >Release whatever thoughts you have. I would say being present with yourself Dinner alone, try alone time and enjoy your own company Step 3: Question “If I love myself truly and deeply, would I let myself experience this?” The answer was always “no” for the author. This question gently shifts your focus from wherever you are to self-love. Make the commitment and make it on paper. Make the vow to yourself to live your truth. Write down whatever it is that speaks to you. The words don't matter. Just make sure it comes from you and it is in your own words. That's how the magic will happen. Similarly, Kamal suggests we do this to ourselves: go right up against a mirror, face to face with yourself (focus on the left eye) and keep repeating, “I love myself” gently for 5 minutes (the number of times you say it doesn't matter). What matters is you look at yourself while saying it. Love yourself truly deeply Can edit Repeat Put where can see daily Create an easy ritual of self love in case you get lazy Self love comes in handy when dealing with difficult situations. The decisions. Write a Self-love love letter Ask what your friends love about you And most importantly make a commitment to do this. Keep a reminder that this is something you will try to do everyday And with practice you can learn to love yourself. Trust loving yourself and not abandoning yourself will help you simplify your life, make cleaner decisions (which I'll discuss in a future episode) and love your life. If you are feeling stuck are a professional mom with the seemingly perfect life but you're silently suffering on the inside, in survival mode and you've tried self-help, self-care, therapy, spinning on your Peloton and feel like this isn't helping you getting you to where you want to be and peace, freedom, confidence seem unattainable, book a call to chat with me to realize that it's not. That thriving is possible for you even if it seems like it's not. www.priancanaikmdcoaching.as.me

Alright friends. It has been over a year since Sam and I decided to sell our house, most of our belongings, and hit the road in an RV. We made the decision to do so at the end of May in 2020. I did a podcast episode on that decision here.Since then, a lot has happened. Like a LOT. And even more that I'll get to at some point. However, from the perspective and experience I have now, I thought it would be fun to review what I loved and loathed about our 10 month RV adventure. And, if you've been here before, you know I will hold very little back...PRODUCTS MENTIONED...BARÙKAS NUTS:barukas.com and use Code: JACLYN for 15% offCONNECT WITH JACLYN:+ Website: jaclynsteele.com+ Instagram: @jaclynsteele+ Youtube: officialjaclynsteele+ Facebook: jaclynsteeleinternational+ Clubhouse: @jaclynsteele+ Sign up for THE SCOOP & get the skinny on the latest wellness, beauty, & self development trends, as well as exclusive email-only content.TEXT ME:+1 480-531-6858 or follow this link. :)SUPPORT THE SHOW:PaypalLight, Love, & Peace,Jaclyn SteeleSupport the show (https://www.paypal.com/donate?hosted_button_id=7SLKVGC37E8SU)

She was church founder Joseph Smith's first scribe. She created the first Latter-day Saint hymnal. She was the first president of the women's Relief Society. She was, indeed, the faith's first first lady. Yet Emma Smith, beloved wife of Joseph Smith, remains a mystery to many members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Jennifer Reeder, a historian for the Utah-based church, seeks to break through that mystery and the myth in her new biography, appropriately titled “First: The Life and Faith of Emma Smith,” revealing Emma's undying love for her prophet-husband and her feeling of betrayal at his practice of polygamy, exploring her painful loss of young babies and her lifelong commitment to surviving children, examining her fractious relationship with Brigham Young and the Utah church and her eventual embrace of the Reorganized Church (now called the Community of Christ). On this week's show, Reeder talks about Emma Smith, the “elect lady” of early Mormonism.
Released in 1978, Blondie's third album, Parallel Lines, became their biggest album largely off the strength of the most popular song of 1979, Heart of Glass. The making of this album is interesting: the band was given six months to make the record, yet it was finished in six weeks, despite the producer calling Blondie the worst band he'd ever worked with. Loathed by members of the burgeoning 1970s NYC music scene for its disco appeal, Blondie, one of the last bands to sign a recording deal from that era, became the scene's best-selling groups. And Tony introduces many of our listeners to the Nerves, whose lead guitarist wrote two songs for this album.

When we are unclear on where to go, we need to consider all available options as good options and then narrow our focus to have a vivid vision on which path will be the best direction for our business. If we have a clear vision of what we want to achieve, we are happier and more passionate about doing our job compared to just doing for the sake of finishing. We want to see that vission come to life, and this is a great driver for us to give all we can to make sure we nail our tasks every single day. Submarines are an accepted part of a strong navy and the cornerstone vessel of a superpower. But these stealth-killers of the ocean were once as derided and feared as the drone is now. This week on War College, former journalist and current naval historian Iain Ballantyne takes us through the history of the submarine. From the American Revolutionary War to the modern age of the nuclear triad, few weapons have been as controversial and as feared as the submarine. Find out why on this week’s episode. When the IRS and Treasury Department proposed changes to Section 385 of the tax code, corporate treasurers and CFOs went ballistic. Besides discouraging corporate tax inversions, they claimed the proposed changes would make everyday cash management functions like cash pooling nearly impossible. Now the final 385 regulation is out and due to take effect soon. Is it easier on treasurers and CFOs? And will the Trump administration repeal this Obama-era holdover? In this edition of AFP Conversations, host Ira Apfel talks to Melissa Cameron and Michael Mou of Deloitte. Cameron, U.S. & Global Treasury Leader, and Mou, Principal at Deloitte Washington National Tax, explain the final rule and what treasury and finance professionals must do to prepare. Help support The Sci-Fi Movie Podcast by becoming a Patron! Hosted by Remi Lavictoire, Mr. Blahg, Ian Fults, Jonathan Colbon Podcast length: 1:10:08 This week on The Sci-Fi Movie Podcast, Rem, Ian, Jonathan dig deeper into "Watchmen" from 2009 and directed by Zack Snyder. We're very pleased to welcome Mr. Blahg, from The Under The Comic Covers Podcast which you'll find on the Podcastica Network. The PositiveConsidered at one time to be un-filmable, Watchmen is a dark take on the Superhero genre in an alternate United States where the U.S. won in Vietnam, and Richard Nixon is still President! Ian loved that the movie adaptation took very good care of Alan Moore's original Graphic Novel, and found the casting to be spot on, particularly Rorschach. Jonathan talked about the symbolism in the movie, which was abundant. This is a film should be watched several times to be fully appreciated. The NegativeThe only small points we could find were the somewhat cheesy Leonard Cohen music during the 'Love Scene', and some fans will not enjoy this because of the comparison with the Graphic Novel. The VerdictWe had mixed opinions on which to do first, the movie or the graphic novel, but we all agree that Watchmen is a great story and is well worth exploring. Get more detail on Watchmen on IMDB Radio vs. The Martians Podcast As per Mr. Blahg's suggestion, learn more about David Zapanta Listener Feedback Cory Metcalfe This movie is truly outstanding, that is all Ian FoggoGrowing up in the 80's, this was a comic I stumbled upon, which was very hard to do when you live in an island. A few years after I read this, I even gave the complete series as a gift to a friend. I was completely stoked to see that this was going to be made into a movie, and as a comic book and Sci-Fi fan, thought that this was and has been one of the best Superhero movies put out. Athena NeillEnjoyed the movie. Loathed the Silk Spectre's costumes. Impractical and misogynistic in every way. I would like to light them on fire. David ZapantaThis movie is vastly underrated—and fan backlash to the altered ending overshadowed a pretty impressive page-to-screen adaptation. I do, however, think trying to cram 12 chapters into a single movie was overambitious. The source material would have been better served as an onscreen trilogy—really let the story expand and breathe. At the end of the day, I'm glad this movie exists. Great cast, slick cinematography, and a surprising (but necessary) fidelity to the comics. Snyder's Sucker Punch is loathsome; Watchmen is not. Mike GorhamThis was the first Blu Ray movie I ever watched. Breathtaking does not begin to describe it Corey BlantonI really enjoyed this movie. I still enjoy rewatching it. I think this movie was put together really well. The cast is fantastic. Some great use of song choice. I love the opening with "The Times, They Are A Changin'" by Bob Dylan that sort of sets up the world in which the movie takes place. Also "The Sound of Silence" by Simon & Garfunkel was perfect for The Comedian's funeral. And how can you not like Rorschach in this? His dialogue is just plain awesome throughout this movie. I mean come on: https://youtu.be/B3lsJmwNO40Lisa LyonsThere was a time that this was a comic book that was unfilmable. But then, they also said Lord of the Rings could never be filmed! Watchmen was, without a doubt, one comic book that made me a comic fan. That and the wonderful Camelot 3000. So, going into this film, I knew the source incredibly well. Dr Manhattan was precisely how I imagined him, but stealing every scene, without a doubt was Rorschach. He was perfectly cast, and carried off with such aplomb by Jackie Earle Haley that I couldn't have imagined anyone else in that role... I'm still of two minds if the comic ending or the film ending is best. I mean the ultimate outcome of both is humanity uniting, but is an Alien invasion more or less believable? Finally, on the DVD release there was a short animation that takes the Pirates story that develops in parallel in the comic, and turns it into a stand alone story. Weird, strange, but good... Oddly reminiscent of Heavy Metal type cartoons. Anthony FarnsworthYay! Love mr blahg!I really enjoyed this movie, the graphic novel even more so. I read the graphic novel prior to watching the movie, in fact Watchmen was the first graphic novel i ever read and owned. I wasn't sure what to expect, just thought "hey a cliche superhero team, they're making a movie about it so it must be good"...cliche superhero team...boy was i wrong. Turning the page and seeing a giant exploded alien carcass is definitely up there with the top 5 times my mind has been blown, although the movie did it different, i rather enjoy both versions and can understand why they chose to go the direction they did in the movie, both work, but i sure would have loved to see cthulhu body parts scattered across a ruined Manhattan. A visual masterpiece, its very fitting with Zack Snyder's resume and i believe he did the graphic novel justice. Its one of those pieces of media that had me talking for quite awhile, unlike avengers which is a cut and dry superhero team movie, Watchmen presents many existential quandaries to think about which i find to be rare with your typical superhero movie. I would recommend both the movie and novel to anyone, the deleted scenes are just as enjoyable. Cant wait to hear the discussion fellas, take care. Ton de WitteI read the graphic novel first. When I saw the movie I was impressed with how well it followed the novel. Some things were absent and the ending was different but a great translation to film. And there are 3 versions of this movie, theatrical, directors cut and ultimate cut. Didn't see the last one which seems to have the tales of the black freighter in it so review all three if you can. Essential viewing this one as well as reading the graphic novel. Now do we understand who is locked up with whom and where ? Doug FergusonApparently a lot of people really don't like the movie... but I do! I think Snyder did a great job adapting the graphic novel, which was an ambitious undertaking to say the least. I think the casting was great and the tone was dark and mysterious. There were a few questionable changes, but overall I feel that they stayed true to the source material and I actually thought the ending change worked better for the cinematic medium. I'm sure Alan Moore would have hated it, but that's because he's Alan Moore. Though, part of me wonders about the project that only exists only in a parallel universe. Apparently Terry Gilliam was approached ages ago to adapt Watchmen and he turned it down saying that it couldn't be done in a single movie, but he would do it if it were a miniseries. I would have LOVED to see that, but it never came to pass... Ray RMy first viewing was the extended cut DVD - I found it long and tedious, a missed opportunity. I hear fans of the comic loved it but as a casual moviegoer I thought it could have been better. Nick JensenI really enjoy this movie and the graphic novel. Like a lot of the other posts, I read the graphic novel first and then saw the movie, and think it's a great adaptation. The parts that they changed, like the costumes and the ending, all really worked well; and honestly look better. I think one of the main reasons why a lot of the general public didn't really embrace the movie was because of it's marketing. They marketed this as a typical fast-paced action comic book movie, but this movie and the source material are more of a dramatic, noir detective mystery story. So people went in to the movie with the wrong expectations of what they were going to see. But I love this movie and can't wait to hear your discussion. Michael SimshauserI'm on the fence with the movie. There are things that just simply that the comic can do that the movie cannot. While I own this movie and the related DVDs (Tales of the Black Freighter & the Motion Comic), any discussion of this movie always makes me want to read the comic, not watch the movie. Might be a different state of affairs when I get my hands on the Director's Cut. My two cents on whether it's required viewing, perhaps not. But the comic is definitely required reading. For another point of view, Radio vs the Martians (another podcast) had a great recent episode discussing the movie and the comic and the history and the changes made between the comic and its film adaptation.
