This Psalm praises the God of creation and is based on an old version of the air ‘Thugamar Féin an Samhradh Linn,' rediscovered by singer Pádraigin Ní Uallacháin, which marks the arrival of summer. It moves through various aspects of the natural world, considering how God is behind it all, and as the Psalm concludes, we are led into thankfulness for all of life's “good things,” for life and breath, for which we might sing our undying praise. You can find lyrics, scores/books, mp3s, CDs for Praise the Lord All the Earth on the Celtic Psalms webpage (www.celticpsalms.com)Listen to Kiran and Celtic Psalms on TEDxThe journal is available in paperback format on Amazon! Here's the link to the paperback journal (available globally), and if you would be so kind as to leave a review on the Amazon platform in your region, that will help other readers find it! ”The Lord is my light and my salvation; Whom shall I fear? The Lord is the strength of my life; Of whom shall I be afraid? When the wicked came against me To eat up my flesh, My enemies and foes, They stumbled and fell. Though an army may encamp against me, My heart shall not fear; Though war may rise against me, In this I will be confident. Full Text of ReadingsFeast of the Transfiguration of the Lord Lectionary: 614The Saint of the day is Transfiguration of the LordThe Story of the Transfiguration of the Lord All three Synoptic Gospels tell the story of the Transfiguration (Matthew 17:1-8; Mark 9:2-9; Luke 9:28-36). With remarkable agreement, all three place the event shortly after Peter's confession of faith that Jesus is the Messiah and Jesus' first prediction of his passion and death. Peter's eagerness to erect tents or booths on the spot suggests it occurred during the week-long Jewish Feast of Booths in the fall. According to Scripture scholars, in spite of the texts' agreement it is difficult to reconstruct the disciples' experience, because the Gospels draw heavily on Old Testament descriptions of the Sinai encounter with God, and prophetic visions of the Son of Man. Certainly Peter, James, and John had a glimpse of Jesus' divinity strong enough to strike fear into their hearts. Such an experience defies description, so they drew on familiar religious language to describe it. And certainly Jesus warned them that his glory and his suffering were to be inextricably connected—a theme John highlights throughout his Gospel. Tradition names Mount Tabor as the site of the revelation. A church first raised there in the fourth century was dedicated on August 6. A feast in honor of the Transfiguration was celebrated in the Eastern Church from about that time. Western observance began in some localities about the eighth century. On July 22, 1456, Crusaders defeated the Turks at Belgrade. News of the victory reached Rome on August 6, and Pope Callistus III placed the feast on the Roman calendar the following year. Reflection One of the Transfiguration accounts is read on the second Sunday of Lent each year, proclaiming Christ's divinity to the Elect and baptized alike. The Gospel for the first Sunday of Lent, by contrast, is the story of the temptation in the desert—affirmation of Jesus' humanity. The two distinct but inseparable natures of the Lord were a subject of much theological argument at the beginning of the Church's history; it remains hard for believers to grasp. Reading I Gn 1:1—2:2 In the beginning, when God created the heavens and the earth, the earth was a formless wasteland, and darkness covered the abyss, while a mighty wind swept over the waters. Then God said, "Let there be light,"" and there was light. God saw how good the light was. God then separated the light from the darkness. God called the light "day," and the darkness he called "night." Thus evening came, and morning followed—the first day. Then God said, "Let there be a dome in the middle of the waters, to separate one body of water from the other." And so it happened: God made the dome, and it separated the water above the dome from the water below it. God called the dome "the sky." Evening came, and morning followed—the second day. Then God said, "Let the water under the sky be gathered into a single basin, so that the dry land may appear." And so it happened: the water under the sky was gathered into its basin, and the dry land appeared. God called the dry land "the earth, " and the basin of the water he called "the sea." God saw how good it was. Then God said, "Let the earth bring forth vegetation: every kind of plant that bears seed and every kind of fruit tree on earth that bears fruit with its seed in it." And so it happened: the earth brought forth every kind of plant that bears seed and every kind of fruit tree on earth that bears fruit with its seed in it. God saw how good it was. Evening came, and morning followed—the third day. Then God said: "Let there be lights in the dome of the sky, to separate day from night. Let them mark the fixed times, the days and the years, and serve as luminaries in the dome of the sky, to shed light upon the earth." And so it happened: God made the two great lights, the greater one to govern the day, and the lesser one to govern the night; and he made the stars. God set them in the dome of the sky, to shed light upon the earth, to govern the day and the night, and to separate the light from the darkness. God saw how good it was. Evening came, and morning followed—the fourth day. Then God said, "Let the water teem with an abundance of living creatures, and on the earth let birds fly beneath the dome of the sky." And so it happened: God created the great sea monsters and all kinds of swimming creatures with which the water teems, and all kinds of winged birds. God saw how good it was, and God blessed them, saying, "Be fertile, multiply, and fill the water of the seas; and let the birds multiply on the earth." Evening came, and morning followed—the fifth day. Then God said, "Let the earth bring forth all kinds of living creatures: cattle, creeping things, and wild animals of all kinds." And so it happened: God made all kinds of wild animals, all kinds of cattle, and all kinds of creeping things of the earth. God saw how good it was. Then God said: "Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. Let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, the birds of the air, and the cattle, and over all the wild animals and all the creatures that crawl on the ground." God created man in his image; in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them. God blessed them, saying: "Be fertile and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it. Have dominion over the fish of the sea, the birds of the air, and all the living things that move on the earth." God also said: "See, I give you every seed-bearing plant all over the earth and every tree that has seed-bearing fruit on it to be your food; and to all the animals of the land, all the birds of the air, and all the living creatures that crawl on the ground, I give all the green plants for food." And so it happened. God looked at everything he had made, and he found it very good. Evening came, and morning followed—the sixth day. Thus the heavens and the earth and all their array were completed. Since on the seventh day God was finished with the work he had been doing, he rested on the seventh day from all the work he had undertaken.Reading II Gn 22:1-18 God put Abraham to the test. He called to him, "Abraham!" "Here I am," he replied. Then God said: "Take your son Isaac, your only one, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah. There you shall offer him up as a holocaust on a height that I will point out to you." Early the next morning Abraham saddled his donkey, took with him his son Isaac and two of his servants as well, and with the wood that he had cut for the holocaust, set out for the place of which God had told him. On the third day Abraham got sight of the place from afar. Then he said to his servants: "Both of you stay here with the donkey, while the boy and I go on over yonder. We will worship and then come back to you." Thereupon Abraham took the wood for the holocaust and laid it on his son Isaac's shoulders, while he himself carried the fire and the knife. As the two walked on together, Isaac spoke to his father Abraham: "Father!" Isaac said. "Yes, son," he replied. Isaac continued, "Here are the fire and the wood, but where is the sheep for the holocaust?" "Son," Abraham answered, "God himself will provide the sheep for the holocaust." Then the two continued going forward. When they came to the place of which God had told him, Abraham built an altar there and arranged the wood on it. Next he tied up his son Isaac, and put him on top of the wood on the altar. Then he reached out and took the knife to slaughter his son. But the LORD's messenger called to him from heaven, "Abraham, Abraham!" "Here I am!" he answered. "Do not lay your hand on the boy," said the messenger. "Do not do the least thing to him. I know now how devoted you are to God, since you did not withhold from me your own beloved son." As Abraham looked about, he spied a ram caught by its horns in the thicket. So he went and took the ram and offered it up as a holocaust in place of his son. Abraham named the site Yahweh-yireh; hence people now say, "On the mountain the LORD will see." Again the LORD's messenger called to Abraham from heaven and said: "I swear by myself, declares the LORD, that because you acted as you did in not withholding from me your beloved son, I will bless you abundantly and make your descendants as countless as the stars of the sky and the sands of the seashore; your descendants shall take possession of the gates of their enemies, and in your descendants all the nations of the earth shall find blessing-- all this because you obeyed my command."Reading III Ex 14:15—15:1 The LORD said to Moses, "Why are you crying out to me? Tell the Israelites to go forward. And you, lift up your staff and, with hand outstretched over the sea, split the sea in two, that the Israelites may pass through it on dry land. But I will make the Egyptians so obstinate that they will go in after them. Then I will receive glory through Pharaoh and all his army, his chariots and charioteers. The Egyptians shall know that I am the LORD, when I receive glory through Pharaoh and his chariots and charioteers." The angel of God, who had been leading Israel's camp, now moved and went around behind them. The column of cloud also, leaving the front, took up its place behind them, so that it came between the camp of the Egyptians and that of Israel. But the cloud now became dark, and thus the night passed without the rival camps coming any closer together all night long. Then Moses stretched out his hand over the sea, and the LORD swept the sea with a strong east wind throughout the night and so turned it into dry land. When the water was thus divided, the Israelites marched into the midst of the sea on dry land, with the water like a wall to their right and to their left. The Egyptians followed in pursuit; all Pharaoh's horses and chariots and charioteers went after them right into the midst of the sea. In the night watch just before dawn the LORD cast through the column of the fiery cloud upon the Egyptian force a glance that threw it into a panic; and he so clogged their chariot wheels that they could hardly drive. With that the Egyptians sounded the retreat before Israel, because the LORD was fighting for them against the Egyptians. Then the LORD told Moses, "Stretch out your hand over the sea, that the water may flow back upon the Egyptians, upon their chariots and their charioteers." So Moses stretched out his hand over the sea, and at dawn the sea flowed back to its normal depth. The Egyptians were fleeing head on toward the sea, when the LORD hurled them into its midst. As the water flowed back, it covered the chariots and the charioteers of Pharaoh's whole army which had followed the Israelites into the sea. Not a single one of them escaped. But the Israelites had marched on dry land through the midst of the sea, with the water like a wall to their right and to their left. Thus the LORD saved Israel on that day from the power of the Egyptians. When Israel saw the Egyptians lying dead on the seashore and beheld the great power that the LORD had shown against the Egyptians, they feared the LORD and believed in him and in his servant Moses. Then Moses and the Israelites sang this song to the LORD: I will sing to the LORD, for he is gloriously triumphant; horse and chariot he has cast into the sea.Reading IV Is 54:5-14 The One who has become your husband is your Maker; his name is the LORD of hosts; your redeemer is the Holy One of Israel, called God of all the earth. The LORD calls you back, like a wife forsaken and grieved in spirit, a wife married in youth and then cast off, says your God. For a brief moment I abandoned you, but with great tenderness I will take you back. In an outburst of wrath, for a moment I hid my face from you; but with enduring love I take pity on you, says the LORD, your redeemer. This is for me like the days of Noah, when I swore that the waters of Noah should never again deluge the earth; so I have sworn not to be angry with you, or to rebuke you. Though the mountains leave their place and the hills be shaken, my love shall never leave you nor my covenant of peace be shaken, says the LORD, who has mercy on you. O afflicted one, storm-battered and unconsoled, I lay your pavements in carnelians, and your foundations in sapphires; I will make your battlements of rubies, your gates of carbuncles, and all your walls of precious stones. All your children shall be taught by the LORD, and great shall be the peace of your children. In justice shall you be established, far from the fear of oppression, where destruction cannot come near you.Reading V Is 55:1-11 Thus says the LORD: All you who are thirsty, come to the water! You who have no money, come, receive grain and eat; come, without paying and without cost, drink wine and milk! Why spend your money for what is not bread, your wages for what fails to satisfy? Heed me, and you shall eat well, you shall delight in rich fare. Come to me heedfully, listen, that you may have life. I will renew with you the everlasting covenant, the benefits assured to David. As I made him a witness to the peoples, a leader and commander of nations, so shall you summon a nation you knew not, and nations that knew you not shall run to you, because of the LORD, your God, the Holy One of Israel, who has glorified you. Seek the LORD while he may be found, call him while he is near. Let the scoundrel forsake his way, and the wicked man his thoughts; let him turn to the LORD for mercy; to our God, who is generous in forgiving. For my thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways my ways, says the LORD. As high as the heavens are above the earth, so high are my ways above your ways and my thoughts above your thoughts. For just as from the heavens the rain and snow come down and do not return there till they have watered the earth, making it fertile and fruitful, giving seed to the one who sows and bread to the one who eats, so shall my word be that goes forth from my mouth; my word shall not return to me void, but shall do my will, achieving the end for which I sent it.Reading VI Bar 3:9-15, 32--4:4 Hear, O Israel, the commandments of life: listen, and know prudence! How is it, Israel, that you are in the land of your foes, grown old in a foreign land, defiled with the dead, accounted with those destined for the netherworld? You have forsaken the fountain of wisdom! Had you walked in the way of God, you would have dwelt in enduring peace. Learn where prudence is, where strength, where understanding; that you may know also where are length of days, and life, where light of the eyes, and peace. Who has found the place of wisdom, who has entered into her treasuries? The One who knows all things knows her; he has probed her by his knowledge-- The One who established the earth for all time, and filled it with four-footed beasts; he who dismisses the light, and it departs, calls it, and it obeys him trembling; before whom the stars at their posts shine and rejoice; when he calls them, they answer, "Here we are!" shining with joy for their Maker. Such is our God; no other is to be compared to him: he has traced out the whole way of understanding, and has given her to Jacob, his servant, to Israel, his beloved son. Since then she has appeared on earth, and moved among people. She is the book of the precepts of God, the law that endures forever; all who cling to her will live, but those will die who forsake her. Turn, O Jacob, and receive her: walk by her light toward splendor. Give not your glory to another, your privileges to an alien race. Blessed are we, O Israel; for what pleases God is known to us!Reading VII Ez 36:16-17a, 18-28 The word of the LORD came to me, saying: Son of man, when the house of Israel lived in their land, they defiled it by their conduct and deeds. Therefore I poured out my fury upon them because of the blood that they poured out on the ground, and because they defiled it with idols. I scattered them among the nations, dispersing them over foreign lands; according to their conduct and deeds I judged them. But when they came among the nations wherever they came, they served to profane my holy name, because it was said of them: "These are the people of the LORD, yet they had to leave their land." So I have relented because of my holy name which the house of Israel profaned among the nations where they came. Therefore say to the house of Israel: Thus says the Lord GOD: Not for your sakes do I act, house of Israel, but for the sake of my holy name, which you profaned among the nations to which you came. I will prove the holiness of my great name, profaned among the nations, in whose midst you have profaned it. Thus the nations shall know that I am the LORD, says the Lord GOD, when in their sight I prove my holiness through you. For I will take you away from among the nations, gather you from all the foreign lands, and bring you back to your own land. I will sprinkle clean water upon you to cleanse you from all your impurities, and from all your idols I will cleanse you. I will give you a new heart and place a new spirit within you, taking from your bodies your stony hearts and giving you natural hearts. I will put my spirit within you and make you live by my statutes, careful to observe my decrees. You shall live in the land I gave your fathers; you shall be my people, and I will be your God.Epistle Rom 6:3-11 Brothers and sisters: Are you unaware that we who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? We were indeed buried with him through baptism into death, so that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might live in newness of life. For if we have grown into union with him through a death like his, we shall also be united with him in the resurrection. We know that our old self was crucified with him, so that our sinful body might be done away with, that we might no longer be in slavery to sin. For a dead person has been absolved from sin. If, then, we have died with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him. We know that Christ, raised from the dead, dies no more; death no longer has power over him. As to his death, he died to sin once and for all; as to his life, he lives for God. Consequently, you too must think of yourselves as being dead to sin and living for God in Christ Jesus.Gospel Mt 28:1-10 After the sabbath, as the first day of the week was dawning, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary came to see the tomb. And behold, there was a great earthquake; for an angel of the Lord descended from heaven, approached, rolled back the stone, and sat upon it. His appearance was like lightning and his clothing was white as snow. The guards were shaken with fear of him and became like dead men. Then the angel said to the women in reply, “Do not be afraid! I know that you are seeking Jesus the crucified. He is not here, for he has been raised just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay. Then go quickly and tell his disciples, ‘He has been raised from the dead, and he is going before you to Galilee; there you will see him.' Behold, I have told you.” Then they went away quickly from the tomb, fearful yet overjoyed, and ran to announce this to his disciples. And behold, Jesus met them on their way and greeted them. They approached, embraced his feet, and did him homage. Then Jesus said to them, “Do not be afraid. Go tell my brothers to go to Galilee, and there they will see me.”
2 Kings 4:8-17 (NKJV) // Now it happened one day that Elisha went to Shunem, where there was a notable woman, and she persuaded him to eat some food. So it was, as often as he passed by, he would turn in there to eat some food. 9 And she said to her husband, “Look now, I know that this is a holy man of God, who passes by us regularly. 10 Please, let us make a small upper room on the wall; and let us put a bed for him there, and a table and a chair and a lampstand; so it will be, whenever he comes to us, he can turn in there.” 11 And it happened one day that he came there, and he turned in to the upper room and lay down there. 12 Then he said to Gehazi his servant, “Call this Shunammite woman.” When he had called her, she stood before him. 13 And he said to him, “Say now to her, ‘Look, you have been concerned for us with all this care. What can I do for you? Do you want me to speak on your behalf to the king or to the commander of the army?' ” She answered, “I dwell among my own people.” 14 So he said, “What then is to be done for her?” And Gehazi answered, “Actually, she has no son, and her husband is old.” 15 So he said, “Call her.” When he had called her, she stood in the doorway. 16 Then he said, “About this time next year you shall embrace a son.” And she said, “No, my lord. Man of God, do not lie to your maidservant!” 17 But the woman conceived, and bore a son when the appointed time had come, of which Elisha had told her. 1. Prepare With No Agenda 2 Kings 4:13 (CEB) // …‘Look, you've gone to all this trouble for us. What can I do for you? Is there anything I can say on your behalf to the king or to the commander of the army?'” She said, “I'm content to live at home with my own people.” 2. Prepare For The Supernatural 2 Kings 4:16 (NKJV) // Then he said, “About this time next year you shall embrace a son.” And she said, “No, my lord. Man of God, do not lie to your maidservant!” Psalm 37:4 (NIV) // Take delight in the LORD, and he will give you the desires of your heart. 3. It Is Well When You've Prepared 2 Kings 4:21-23 (NKJV) // And she went up and laid him on the bed of the man of God, shut the door upon him, and went out. 22 Then she called to her husband, and said, “Please send me one of the young men and one of the donkeys, that I may run to the man of God and come back.” 23 So he said, “Why are you going to him today? It is neither the New Moon nor the Sabbath.” And she said, “It is well.” Psalm 27:1-6 (NKJV) // The LORD is my light and my salvation; Whom shall I fear? The LORD is the strength of my life; Of whom shall I be afraid? 2 When the wicked came against me To eat up my flesh, My enemies and foes, They stumbled and fell. 3 Though an army may encamp against me, My heart shall not fear; Though war may rise against me, In this I will be confident. 4 One thing I have desired of the LORD, That will I seek: That I may dwell in the house of the LORD All the days of my life, To behold the beauty of the LORD, And to inquire in His temple. 5 For in the time of trouble He shall hide me in His pavilion; In the secret place of His tabernacle He shall hide me; He shall set me high upon a rock. 6 And now my head shall be lifted up above my enemies all around me; Therefore I will offer sacrifices of joy in His tabernacle; I will sing, yes, I will sing praises to the LORD.

Today is the first day of a new year, the first day of a new month, the first day of a new week, and most important, the first day of the rest of your life! Isn't it awesome how God gives us new beginnings all the time! The most important thing you can do each day is to seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and He promised that He will meet every need in your life (Matthew 6:33). I want to challenge you to seek the Lord daily by reading through your Bible this year. I have prepared two Bible Reading schedules on my Pastor Mike Impact Ministries website. One plan helps you read though the Old Testament once, the New Testament twice, the Psalms twice and the Proverbs every month. This will take about 20 to 25 minutes a day. You can access it at this link and download it or print it: https://www.pmiministries.org/daily-bible-reading-calendar The other schedule plan helps you to read through the Old and New Testament once, and the Psalms twice. This will only take about 10 to 15 minutes a day. You can access it at this link: https://www.pmiministries.org/bible-reading-calendar-plan-b Every month I will be posting the new schedule for that month. I know I said this yesterday, but it bears saying again. In this great chapter, David was confident that if his heart and his worship was right, he could face whatever troubles might come his way. He could deal with the fear of circumstances (vv. 1-6), the fear of failure (vv. 7-10), and the fear of the future (vv. 11-14). Like David, we make the choice every day, to either live with confident faith or live in constant fear! David had learned at an early age that it was a priority each day to seek communion and fellowship with the Lord. So even though he is fleeing from Saul and hiding in the mountains, he had one great desire! “One thing I have desired of the LORD, That will I seek:” David's heart was set on seeking the presence of the Lord in His Word and in prayer as he began each day! The imagery in verses 4-6 is the Old Testament equivalent of "abiding in Christ" (John 15:1-8). In the ancient Near East, when a visitor entered his host's tent, the host was personally responsible for his protection and provision, and the flimsy tent became a fortress. Jesus made it very clear in this passage in John 15 that only as we abide in Him can we be fruit bearers. Remember the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, and so on! Jesus said, this happens as we allow the Word of God to cleanse us (John 15:3). And also as we bear fruit the Father will also “prune” us so we can bear more fruit (v. 2). He does this through trials and difficult things in our lives that challenge us to totally rely on His strength, His grace, and His help for everything we face and do. Jesus said, “Without Me you can do nothing” (v. 5). I have the idea that “nothing” means “nothing”! Please start this year praying for a heart to seek after the Lord every day in private communion and devotion. God bless!
“Vindicate me, O LORD, For I have walked in my integrity. I have also trusted in the LORD; I shall not slip. Examine me, O LORD, and prove me; Try my mind and my heart. For Your lovingkindness is before my eyes, And I have walked in Your truth. I have not sat with idolatrous mortals, Nor will I go in with hypocrites. I have hated the assembly of evildoers, And will not sit with the wicked. I will wash my hands in innocence; So I will go about Your altar, O LORD..." How interesting is it that on this 26th day of the month we begin our study on Psalm 26. I've mentioned several times in these chats how I read five Psalms every day beginning with the Psalm that corresponds to the day of the month and then read every 30th Psalm. Today my reading will be Psalms 26, 56, 86, 116, and 146. Since there are 150 Psalms this allows me to read the entire book of Psalms every month. As we approach a New Year, I would like to challenge you to do the same and enter a time of worship with the Lord each day in the Sanctuary of the Book of Worship, the Psalms! Psalms 26, along with Psalm 27 and Psalm 28, reveal David's love for God's sanctuary. You see this in: Psalm 26:6-8: “I will wash my hands in innocence; So I will go about Your altar, O LORD, That I may proclaim with the voice of thanksgiving, And tell of all Your wondrous works. LORD, I have loved the habitation of Your house, And the place where Your glory dwells.” Psalm 27:4-6: “One thing I have desired of the LORD, That will I seek: That I may dwell in the house of the LORD All the days of my life, To behold the beauty of the LORD, And to inquire in His temple. For in the time of trouble He shall hide me in His pavilion; In the secret place of His tabernacle He shall hide me; He shall set me high upon a rock. And now my head shall be lifted up above my enemies all around me; Therefore I will offer sacrifices of joy in His tabernacle; I will sing, yes, I will sing praises to the LORD.” Psalm 28:2: “Hear the voice of my supplications When I cry to You, When I lift up my hands toward Your holy sanctuary.” In David's day was the tabernacle on Mt. Zion. David had a great desire to build a temple for the LORD in Jerusalem, but God didn't permit David do it because “he was a man of war (2 Samuel 7: 1 Chronicles 22:8-9). But God give him the plans for the temple and helped him accumulate from the spoils of battle great wealth to provide material for constructing the temple (1 Chronicles 22, 28-29). We know from the title of the Psalm that David wrote it. Some commentators believe that he wrote in on the occasion of a great famine that God sent to punish the nation of Israel for past sins (2 Samuel 21). Others believe it was written when David's son Absalom was winning the hearts of the people of Israel as he was planning an insurrection against his father. David's enemies were lying and scheming against him and at the same time showing up for worship at the tabernacle as if they were his fellow worshippers. David senses that he is surrounded by insincere and hypocritical worshippers and in this Psalm, he is crying out to the Lord to vindicate him. Twice we read that David mentions that he is by God's grace walking in his integrity. This means he was coming to the tabernacle with a pure heart that was cleansed of sin. David had faith that the Lord had forgiven him of his past sins and sincerely was living a life of obedience in accordance with God's Word. In other words, despite the insincerity and hypocrisy of the worshippers around him, David came with a heart of worship that was innocent and pure. May the Lord give us this kind of heart also to worship! God bless!

Full Text of ReadingsFeast of the Transfiguration of the Lord Lectionary: 614All podcast readings are produced by the USCCB and are from the Catholic Lectionary, based on the New American Bible and approved for use in the United States _______________________________________The Saint of the day is Transfiguration of the Lordof the Transfiguration of the Lord All three Synoptic Gospels tell the story of the Transfiguration (Matthew 17:1-8; Mark 9:2-9; Luke 9:28-36). Today I have the absolute pleasure of sharing my conversation with Bible teacher and author Elizabeth Woodson. Elizabeth is a beam of sunshine and hope, and the light of Christ just radiates from her smile and her passion for people knowing and loving Jesus. She shares with me her journey into full time ministry, first on various church staffs such as leading singles ministry at Dr. Tony Evans' church and then was most recently on staff at Village Church, teaching, equipping leaders, and doing theological equipping with the body,, and now she is pursuing her full time personal ministry. She is passionate about deep theology for every day folks because life is hard and God's word is a lamp to our feet in every dark, foreign or uncertain land. Her first book just recently released, and speaks directly into that space. It's called Embrace Your Life: How to Find Joy When the Life You Have is Not What You Hoped For. Elizabeth shares so powerfully about practically walking out longing and lament in your life, and still experiencing the gift of joy and an abundant life. Her beautiful book looks into the Word of God about how to take our longing before the Lord and to work it out with Him, and then figure out the next step even when we don't know what to do or how to feel. She offers some practical ways to process this in this conversation and it's just so insightful and full of experiential wisdom and Spirit led truth. We cover so much ground in this episode. We talk about how to better love our single friends in the church, encouragement for pursuing mentorship and discipleship within the body of Christ, and also for those who are not currently part of a church, why it matters to have right theology, and to know who God truly is, and so much more. This word is a powerful one that carries the need for the salvation of Easter and the lament and longing of the Lord's second coming because it is a hot. mess. down. here. But there is joy in the longing. There is beauty to be found in the middle of the story and I cannot wait for you to hear it. I'd love to hear if this episode resonated with you! It means so much to me and to our guests when you share this podcast with the people in your life or to hear how the Lord is intersecting your story. Don't forget, friend. The two distinct but inseparable natures of the Lord were a subject of much theological argument at the beginning of the Church's history; it remains hard for believers to grasp. https://anchor.fm/sparerare/message - If you have questions, want to say hello, or want to be a guest or share a song let me know!! Host: RareRuby - https://www.instagram.com/sparerarepodcast/ https://www.instagram.com/rareruby86/ First, apologies for the late release, and know this episode may be a bit long. This week marks round four as my mom heals from C-19. GOD. Prayers were also requested for my son and I as well this past week, thank you all. Why did you choose the songs? Yes, I am aware Stevie is referring to the birth of Aisha, however, sometimes there are stewards of the community or the church, grandparents, family, even the births of our sons where we may feel that same joy of new birth or acceptance, maybe approval. Speaking to this person...is the emotion you'd feel when you see that person you would be ashamed to tell you've sinned but tears are just flowing because they have always been your comfort. I talk about my “hood” upbringing a lot. Don't get me wrong yes I had my choir director from the church as my elementary school principal but I also witnessed so many drug deals, deaths, I said that hell nah my son doesn't need to fight it. She and several others used to help my Grandma get us to church, to school events, church competitions, etc. even when she passed we were scattered all across town, they still tried their best to keep us together. When I came back here I went back to her because I needed the connection but also because I knew I may not make it through without losing myself. I saw her name on my phone a few days back, I cried because no matter the amount of good I do I will always feel guilt because I have yet to personally hear from God that my heart is in the right direction. I didn't have the strength to speak on! I was in tears receiving the call I couldn't make. Not that there's beef it's more to do so with I have disappointed them. One more mentor, grandma that was of no relation by human DNA that loved me and helped me when I was a child. My childhood was NOT easy, not many are. They had their own children, their own lives. Trust, I have tons of people that question why am I a daughter, a sister, but not them, never her. Also, the death of my cousin Ieshia C. has always stung. Thanks to A Turtle's Tale for putting Bruno's song in my ear. God put the others!! Which songs did you choose? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZMsvwwp6S7Q - Count On Me by Bruno Mars https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uPBvq7yewIk - Isn't She Lovely by Stevie Wonder https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WAPtTz5OGWs - I Love You, Lord by Benita Jones https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PWsvZfGVYJM - I Love You, Lord by Walter Hawkins Please specify the lyrics that motivated you: Isn't she lovely: All of them. I Love You, Lord: All of them. Count On Me: All of them. The following topics may stem from the song: Music, COVID-19, Family, My Mom, Respect, God, Growth, Love, Benita Jones, Cold Weather, Ms. B, Stevie Wonder, Rare, Life, Memories, Ieshia, Daily Struggles, Peace, Lyrics, Self-Confidence, Courage, Texas, Faith, Bruno Mars, Walter Hawkins, Blessings, and of course me! --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/sparerare/support

https://youtu.be/hCnj55EgZ2U 2 Sam 7- For Himself a NameThe main point is found in v 23 And who is like Your people, like Israel, the one nation on the earth whom God went to redeem for Himself as a people, to make for Himself a name—and to do for Yourself great and awesome deeds for Your land—before Your people whom You redeemed for Yourself from Egypt, the nations, and their gods? That's really the crux of the whole story and the crux of The whole Bible and the experience of being a Christian- “to make himself a name” God chose Abram, to Abraham, to David to Jesus for one purpose- to make for himself a nameHIMSELF a NAME- I call myself a Christian. I want to make HIM a name! What can we do to Make HIM a name? You have to want to honor GodThis is what David was trying to do- He had a plan- I want to build you this great hosueThis was a great plan- why would it not be a great plan? It was for the Lord?“See now, I dwell in a house of cedar, but the ark of God dwells inside tent curtains.”3 Then Nathan said to the king, “Go, do all that is in your heart, for the Lord is with you. 4 But it happened that night that the word of the Lord came to Nathan, saying, 5 “Go and tell My servant David, ‘Thus says the Lord: “Would you build a house for Me to dwell in?David's plan was a solid Godly plan- build a house for the Lord- Why wouldn't make sense- IT was to honor God- It was bring glory to his name. It was a RESPONSE to who God was and what God had done for him- To give him a place. To HONOR HIM. David wanted to Spread the NAME of YHWH and that was honorable. This was always Davids heart- Psalm 27:4 One thing I have desired of the Lord, That will I seek: That I may dwell in the house of the Lord All the days of my life, To behold the beauty of the Lord, And to inquire in His temple.Psalm 69:9 Because zeal for Your house has eaten me up, And the reproaches of those who reproach You have fallen on me.Again- this is why david is called a man after Gods heart- He wasn't about promoting himselfYou can't simultaneously promote God and yourself at the same time. Its HIS NAME What does it mean to youDoes honoring and blessing God come into your mind? Do you want to make HIM a NAMEI was with some pastors this week- they asked me- Why do you do what you doFor people to fully follow the Lord every day. To never forget whose they are and who they are. If you do that- you'll honor him. All day every day. You'll start your day with- Psalm 143: 8 Cause me to hear Your lovingkindness in the morning, For in You do I trust; Cause me to know the way in which I should walk, For I lift up my soul to You.You'll start your day with “how can I make a name for you today”? Do something! (david did)The question is- who's life is it and who are you living it for? If its for HIM you'll honor himJobs- Making pizzas, cleaning bathrooms, Army, Sales- what did you DO today- production1 Cor 10:31 Therefore, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.This should be our mindset all day every day. We should want to bring Glory to our GodIts not just worship, giving and service. It's the day in and day out. Its how we love people. Its how we serve people. And doing it for HIM- Stuff that no one knows about that's for HIMAnd you should have a plan to do so- With your life, family, career, decisions- its for HIMColossians 3:17 And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him. God has a plan to make his nameYou have to realize that its HIS plan, not your plan. David had a plan to honor God by building him a house- but God had a different plan God- My Plan I want to build YOU a house- It will be better. Your son will build it- David may not have understood it- but it was a better plan God said no to David's planDavid's heart was in right place- but God saw the plan differently- Longer range planeREAD V 8-11 Solomon the son of David to build a templeR...
Though just 5 verses in length, Psalm 93 introduces an extensive theme for book 4 of the Psalter. This theme is the kingship and authority of Yahweh Himself. In the sequence of ideas unfolding in the central portion of the Psalms, this song of praise supplies reassuring perspective, and it does not stand alone. Whereas book 3 closes with an ominous note of lament occasioned by the unraveling of the Davidic kingdom in its political expression, book 4 introduces a mini hymnal of praise Psalms acknowledging the immovable and eternal kingdom and authority of the one true God. David's children may send Israel into exile and slavery under a greater nation, but if they ultimately swear allegiance to Yahweh, they are citizens of kingdom that will never by shaken. Psalms 93-100 all build on this theme. The universal lordship of Yahweh is proclaimed in our text today as a reality “from everlasting” (2). He is “Judge of the earth” (94:2). He is above ALL gods (95:3). He commands “sing to the Lord ALL the earth” (96:1). ALL peoples see His glory (97:6). ALL the ends of the earth have seen His salvation (98:3). He is exalted over ALL the peoples (99:2). And (Ps 100:) bids ALL the earth to make a joyful noise to the Lord. So much for the assumption that the ancient Hebrews entertained parochial and culturally informed notions of religion like their pagan neighbors. This slate of Psalms alone demonstrates that nothing could be further from the truth. We should also note that in this section of the Psalms (92-107) the hallowed name of God as covenant keeping, self-sufficient sovereign over all and particularly His people, is referenced from the first verse. Yahweh is the subject and occasion for these 16 consecutive songs as His name appears in the first stanza of each one...
The Lord is continuously births faith in the yielded believer so they can know what He prefers, i.e. the persuasion of His will. (1 Jn 5:4).In Scripture, faith is God's warranty, certifying that the revelation He inbirthes in you will come to pass in His Timing and His Way.HOW LOVELY are Your tabernacles, O Lord of hosts! My soul yearns, yes, even pines and is homesick for the courts of the Lord; my heart and my flesh cry out and sing for joy to the living God. (Psalm 84:1-2).One thing I have desired of the LORD, That will I seek: That I may dwell in the house of the LORD All the days of my life, To behold the beauty of the LORD, And to inquire in His temple. (Psalms 27:4)Blessed are those who dwell in Your house and Your presence; they will be singing Your praises all the day long. Blessed are those who dwell in Your house; They will still be praising You. (Psalms 84:4)As the child of God, He Dwells in you. Your body is the Temple of the Living God. He Gave you His Own Holy Spirit When, He raised You up together with Christ and made you sit down together giving us joint seating with Christ in the heavenly sphere, by virtue of you being] in Christ Jesus, God's Beloved Son. (Ephesians 2:6) God is living in you NOW. AND YOU ARE SEATED WITH Christ in the Heavenly Places in the Presence of God.Therefore you are no longer outsiders (exiles, migrants, and aliens, excluded from the rights of citizens), but you now share citizenship with the saints (God's own people, consecrated and set apart for Himself); and you belong to God's [own] household. (Ephesians 2:19)You are citizens along with all of God's holy people. You are members of God's family. Now, you reside in the Kingdom of God's Dear Son. (Colossians 1:13)Blessed are you whose strength comes from the LORD, You have strength for ALL THINGS things in Christ Who empowers me. You are ready for anything and equal to anything through Him Who infuses His Inner Strength into you; you are self-sufficient in Christ's sufficiency. For without Him, cut off from vital union with Christ, you can do nothing. (Philippians 4:13, John 15:5)Even when you walk through the Valley of Weeping, it will become a place of Refreshing Springs. The early rain also fills the pools of the Valley with blessings. They go from Strength to Strength, Increasing In Victorious Power; you continue to grow Stronger, because you come boldly and confidently into the Presence of God, Who welcomes you as His child. (Psalm 84:5-7, Ephesians 3:12)God Welcomes you! Come Fearlessly And Confidently And Boldly Draw Near To The Throne Of Grace, the Throne of God's Unmerited Favor to you a sinner, that you may receive mercy for your failures and find grace to help in good time for every need, appropriate help and well-timed help, coming just when we need it. (Hebrews 4:16)Most assuredly, God is the Same, He Never Changes His Mind about You. He Is with You in the Valley and on the mountaintop, AND God's plans for you are GOOD. He knows the thoughts that I think toward you, says the LORD, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope. (Jeremiah 29:11)In Romans 8:23-34 – the Holy Spirit reminds that He Himself is a Foretaste of the Goodness of God, which You Hope and your hope in him is never disappointed. He Demonstrated His Great Love for You, Even before You Knew Him. In the Fact, while you were still a sinner, Christ Died for You. (Romans 5:8)For example, you don't know what God wants you to pray for. But the Holy Spirit prays for you with groanings that cannot be expressed in words. So you can know that God causes EVERYTHING to work together for your good who love God and are called His child, being the very righteousness of God in Christ Jesus, according to his purpose for you. (Romans 8:26,28, 2 Corinthians 5:20)He tells you in Ephesians 2:10 – you are God's Own Workmanship Created in Christ Jesus, born anew, that you may do those Good Works which God planned beforehand for you, taking paths which He prepared ahead of time, that you should walk in them, living the Good Life which He prearranged and made ready for you to live. (Ephesians 2:10)God gives the example of Joseph in Genesis 50. If you remember after Joseph he buried his father, Jacob, he returned to Egypt, he and his brother and all those who are going up with him. When Joseph's brother saw that the father was dead, they said, perhaps now Joseph will have his weight with us to pay us back for the Evil we did Take him.So his brother sent him a lettersaying to Joseph: Forgive, take up and away all resentment and all claim to requital concerning us, I pray you now, the trespass of your brothers and their sin, for they did evil to you. Now, we pray you, forgive the trespass of the servants of your father's God. And Joseph wept when they spoke thus to him. Then his brothers went and fell down before him, saying, See, we are your slaves! And Joseph said to them, Fear not; for am I in the place of God. Vengeance is His, not mine. As for you, you thought evil against me, but God meant it for good, to bring about that many people should be kept alive, as they are this day.(Genesis 50:14-20)And Jesus Reminds you in John 10:10-11: The thief comes only in order to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have and enjoy life, and have it in abundance (to the full, till it overflows). I am the Good Shepherd. The Good Shepherd risks and lays down His Own. life for you His sheep. (John 10:10-11, Ps. 23)
August 6 Transfiguration of the Lord All three Synoptic Gospels tell the story of the Transfiguration (Matthew 17:1-8; Mark 9:2-9; Luke 9:28-36). With remarkable agreement, all three place the event shortly after Peter’s confession of faith that Jesus is the Messiah and Jesus’ first prediction of hi
