I am back today with Luke Iorio and we kick off Act 2 by diving headfirst into the deep end of personal growth and manhood. Luke, a seasoned veteran in the world of personal development, dishes out some serious wisdom on vulnerability, transformation, and the art of men's work. Together, we uncover the magic of genuine connections and the transformative power of what Luke calls "soul ships" - those relationships that don't let us off the hook easily. As we wrap up, Luke leaves us with a gem: the journey to true freedom and authenticity is paved with friendships that challenge and uplift us.Bio: Luke is a dad, a husband, an entrepreneur, sought-after coach, and adventurer – of this great land and of the human spirit (especially his own). His journey has included working for his own father, starting and running his own small consulting practice, and then going on to join, build, and lead as CEO one of the largest and most prestigious coach training organizations in the world, iPEC.Since iPEC, Luke's personal work – when he's not with his family or with a private client – led him beyond the modern practice, science and research that drove his work in coaching, to exploring various wisdom, spiritual, and indigenous traditions as he sought to re-connect to his passion, a deeper purpose and calling, and grow himself to be of more service.Chronicled on the podcast series On This Walk with Luke Iorio, this path after several years led Luke to his current business partner and the organization, Man on Fire Rising. Man on Fire is a men's personal growth organization focused on helping men rise with passion, power, and purpose. We know that the last breath every man wants is the breath of Freedom – which will be filled with fulfillment, joy, and the knowing that you loved, lived, and gave fully to this life.InstagramLinkedInXFaceBook
In today's episode, I am joined by Luke Iorio, who brings us on a journey through his roots in New Jersey and shares some fascinating family tales, including a surprising brush with Prohibition-era bootlegging. With a mix of humor and introspection, Luke opens up about pivotal moments in his life, including the profound impact of witnessing 9/11 firsthand. Throughout our conversation, Luke emphasizes the importance of self-reflection and reconnecting with our true selves, urging us to take a closer look in the mirror and ask the tough questions about our identity and purpose. As the episode wraps up, Luke leaves us with invaluable advice: to embrace authenticity and delve deep into our innermost truths, guiding us toward a path of fulfillment and self-discovery.Bio: Luke is a dad, a husband, an entrepreneur, sought-after coach, and adventurer – of this great land and of the human spirit (especially his own). “Balance is much more thinking of that image of a surfer on the surfboard riding the wave. Life is going to crash in any number of different directions, but the surfer is there enjoying the ride the entire time,” explains Luke Iorio, host of the podcast, On This Walk. Today, he shares his thoughts on the distillation process for getting back to your most authentic core self. Part of being your true self is understanding which parts of yourself are actually true to you at your core. If you have always been rewarded for behaving in a certain way or thinking a certain way, you may believe that those values and behaviors are your authentic self. However, they could simply be learned reactions from your environment. Through mindfulness and taking the time to distill yourself down to your core, you can walk away from the old stories that others told you about who you are and replace them with who you know yourself to truly be. Reaching a state of inner balance requires the courage to let go of the inauthentic pieces of yourself and break away from conformity. In doing so, you will open up space for diversity and with it, innovation and creativity. It can be intimidating to walk away from the version of yourself that you have become based on the input of those around you. However, taking that first step toward your authentic self is always worth the risk. When you greet your true self on the other side of your journey, you will have less stress and an easier time connecting to and empathizing with others. Quotes: “We've got to be aware of the things that we're getting rewarded to do.” (24:48-24:52 | Luke) “We have to be aware of the environment that we are operating within in terms of when that change is best suited.” (30:56-31:03 | Luke) “Balance is much more thinking of that image of a surfer on the surfboard riding the wave. Life is going to crash in any number of different directions, but the surfer is there enjoying the ride the entire time.” (33:14-33:27 | Luke) “When you are coming at things from that place that is more centered and more peaceful within yourself, you're going to be a whole lot less reactionary, you're going to have a lot lower level of stress.” (35:31-35:40 | Luke) “A reason why most people don't create a whole lot of change inside of their lives is they don't want to risk any form of loss.” (36:46-36:52 | Luke) Links: Mentioned in this episode: Learn more about Mike Horne on Linkedin Email Mike at mike@mike-horne.com Learn More About Executive and Organization Development with Mike Horne Learn more about Luke Iorio: LinkedIn: linkedin.com/in/lukeiorio Website: onthiswalk.com Twitter: lukeiorio Podcast production and show notes provided by HiveCast.fm
Sometimes it feels like you're on a hamster wheel chasing the next goal. But as you grow older, what you want out of life changes. You realise that your body is your lie detector. It will let you know when you haven't processed a feeling or experience because the trauma and hurts gets stored in our bodies and in our nervous system. We often end up repeating patterns or loops because we don't clear them. Anyone with a pulse has some level of influence or impact on someone. If you help others to show up authentically, they evolve and innovate more quickly. I always thought it was up to somebody else to make a difference until I realized that I'm somebody. We discussed topics such as how to be more present, overcoming burnout and the conscious and awakened ego. We discuss: His experiences going through burnout and how he overcame that. How feeling empathy and compassion for others helped him to feel that for himself. What to do when your mind is racing and you want to become more present in the moment. How to access the real wisdom, truth and consciousness by looking within. That we need an awakened and conscious ego, not a static ego. Over the years as a coach, I've heard many people say, ‘I'm happy, but I feel like I could be happier.” So today we're going to explore the situations (which I think many of us experience!) when things are not ‘awful,' but you feel like you want ‘more than usual.' To that end, I'm speaking with Luke Iorio, a mindfulness coach and entrepreneur. First and foremost, we talk about achieving congruence (a word I love!) with who you really are. I believe many of us self-employed folks have made the choice to be self-employed in the first place in order to better achieve that very congruence – a congruence which certainly makes it easier to be happier! Luke and I explore this idea, as well as how integrity and authenticity underpin congruence. We discuss the concept of ‘know, like, and trust,' and how connecting with our clients from a more authentic place can help us get to a point where our clients are people we actually and actively want to serve. Marni welcomes mindfulness and soulfulness coach, and podcast host of On This Walk, Luke Iorio, and they delve into what it takes to lead a purposeful life. The former CEO and president of the Institute of Professional Excellence in Coaching (IPEC) shares his own personal journey with finding his way back to himself, and as a result to leading a life of inner balance and connection. Having helped thousands of clients and listeners in their quest for meaning, Luke divulges the tools to help you reconnect with your true self. It's about awareness, rather than blame; courage rather than shame; and owning your role within your own life. Takeaways from this episode: - What are the questions you should be asking yourself? - How you can live life on your own terms - Change is fluid - The universe is constantly conspiring to make you whole - Awareness is the first step - How to own your role in the situation It's Not About Making Lemonade Out of Those Lemons [08:47] When you bear in mind that whatever rough spot you're in, is either your transformation moment, or it's preparing you for a transformation, your perspective starts to shift. And this isn't about positivity for the sake of positivity. Luke shares the insights he's gained from his own journey, and years of experience in the field by explaining that the universe is always conspiring to return you to wholeness through the experiences it hands you. It's through these traumas, negative experiences and losses, that we begin to understand what is within us. That's how you begin to decipher what the universe is trying to tell you. These are hardships are what lead us to the questions that matter: what are the parts of you that you feel like you've disowned? what are the corners of you that you feel have shut-down? And that's not to shift blame, but rather to acknowledge that there is a reason, you closed off certain areas of yourself; there's a reason for everything you've done. The journey begins when you start finding out why. At any given moment, the experience I'm having is returning me to wholeness. Life isn't trying to beat you down; it's trying to lead you back to yourself. All you have to do is listen. And to do that takes faith and humility. We get fragmented through all these different little experiences, we leave little pieces of ourselves in our histories, in our traumas, in our hurts and pains. And life is always trying to return them to us. Step Out of the Moment and Look at the Whole Picture [13:42] You're not broken; you're whole. That's something we often forget to remind ourselves of. But being aware of your role in any given situation isn't about putting yourself down, it's about understanding where that decision came from. When we look at a situation unfolding before us, we assume that it's happening in the present, explains Luke. But, that's actually not the case, it is the culmination of all the perceptions, beliefs, attitudes, patterns and conditioning that we've absorbed and built over the past decade or so. Ultimately the recurring conflicts that appear consistently as we interact with the world are a result of our histories. Exploring that is what informs our decisions. That's where awareness comes into play. When we recognize our role in a certain situation, the whole picture begins to get a little clearer. What you're doing is opening that window of taking responsibility where you can start taking responsibility and begin changing the way you're relating to your participation in whatever is going on. Life Moves in Cycle [23:00] It's not news; life is in a state of perpetual change. And yet, we tend to forget the fluidity that is the very nature of life. Everything in life goes through cycles. Luke elaborates that the reason for discomfort and unhappiness is that very often we hold on to the things that are trying to be let go of. Change doesn't work that way, it's meant to be more fluid. It's not meant to be controlled. Being aware of that means being able to ebb and flow rather than attempt to change the very nature of life. Because resisting ends up creating rigidity. Whereas leaning into it, and understanding that universal truth eventually leads to a deeper change within you. This week I am joined by a special guest and longtime friend Luke Iorio. Luke is the former CEO of IPEC, the professional institute of coaching where I obtained my certification many years ago. He is now a coach and entrepreneur, and he currently hosts his own podcast called “On this Walk.”After going through what he refers to as an “epic burnout stage”, Luke realized that he wasn't in alignment with where he needed to be in life. This began a seven year spiritual journey, during which he stepped down from IPEC and explored different practices and modalities on his own walk toward a deeper discovery of himself and the meanings of Balance, Peace, Fulfillment, and Freedom. In this episode, Luke and I had a much needed conversation about the sacred messiness of life. We talked about what burnout really means, how one gets to that point, and about how important it is for us humans to create a space to regulate, reflect and sit in the sometimes uncomfortable space of embracing the unknown. If you liked our discussion, I encourage you to listen to Part 2 of our discussion on Luke's podcast "On This Walk": https://open.spotify.com/show/7yXk7J8ioPTIXSoN4L65oo

In preparation for the Ignite Your Life Conference, Marni welcomes President and CEO of iPEC Coaching, Luke Iorio, back into the Den. Luke shares the a-ha moments that changed his life and shifted his mindset, how we can get out of our head to tap into greater consciousness and align with our inner knowing, and why this is the best time to invest in ourselves. Key takeaways from this episode: How to look at your dating life objectively Feel good about your approach to life Why now is the right time to invest in yourself Access your inner knowing Igniting Your Life [2:25] Luke went on an inward journey about why he was out of alignment with who he truly was. It made him who it was today. As a child, his father was a devout studier of personal development. Luke had access to books about finding out who he was. “I spent a lot of time trying to manipulate and control my relationships in an effort to keep myself safe.” Luke says if you resonate with living a flat experience and you want to get in touch with your aliveness, your spark then you need to wake up, express, and get in alignment with your inner knowing. When you start to look at yourself objectively and you will get in touch with your intuition and know when you are caught up in your old story or the drama of situations. There is power in shifting how you look at life. How Objectivity Affects Your Dating Life [17:26] It can be tough to start a relationship with someone else. New feelings, thoughts, and emotions come to the forefront of your mind. If you find yourself ruminating on the possible reasons he didn’t call, or what a guy meant by what he said, you may be too narrowly focused. Be aware that those triggers are messages from your unconscious that can help you better understand yourself. It's your past programming. Luke says the more you recognize the roots of your thought process you can decide what version of yourself you want to show to other people. Give yourself the opportunity to get out of your head and be more natural and genuine. After this inner work, regardless of the situation you find yourself in you will know you are making decisions that resonate with who you really are. The more self-aware you are, you have more peace and you stay centered and grounded. The Time is Right, Now [32:11] During these uncertain times, people are reassessing their values and pinpointing what is important to them. Many are wondering why they didn’t enrich their lives more often and what they can do to make significant changes. Marni asks Luke why right now is a good time to invest in the future and attend the Ignite Your Life Conference. Luke says now is an important time to be devoted to personal development and to turn down influences that distract us or don't benefit us. A person’s development journey should start from within the flow of their usual lives. This way we build stronger roots and start making decisions from a place of inner knowing. The big profound moments in life can fill you with joy and awe, but today, Luke Iorio, President and CEO of iPEC Coaching, and Jenny Wiley, Director of Community, are here to share why it’s the crappy, most inconvenient moments that really tell you where you are right now. Be inspired by a personal (and crummy) weekend from Jenny and how her experience unravels so many lessons that we’re currently facing amongst ourselves. It’s time to get real and be awakened by our ordinary life. Key Takeaways: Your unconscious signal. Ever sense the universe is trying to tell you something? It shares signs like your car making funny noises or your relationship seeming off, but no matter what you just keep pushing it under the rug? Next time, get to it sooner than later. The universe is trying to teach you THIS . . . [04:07]. Your unwelcome surprise. The ball has dropped. The floor has fallen beneath you. It happened. All these describe that moment when the unexpected has happened and your emotional range can feel like a roller coaster. The TRUTH behind these moments and what they say about you . . . [10:40]. Your crappy awareness. With the ongoing health crisis, the social injustice, and everything over and under that’s happening in your everyday life, one thing is certain–you can’t run away from it. There it is, every day, staring back at you. So what can you do? Your lesson starts HERE . . . [20:00]. Tune in and turn the volume up for a dose of inspiration and life lessons. You're never more than One Idea Away from a whole, new reality. Thank you to our partners at iPEC Coaching! Custom tailor your coaching career to your passion and lifestyle with the support of dynamic business tools, a strong coaching network, and expert guidance from a team dedicated to your success long after graduation. As I continue interviewing experts and leaders I’ve been slowly coming to an interesting realization: balance is kind of BS. Most of the ideas we have about balance, anyway. My guest Luke Iorio explains why scheduling and productivity hacks are actually preventing us from reaching the real goal of fulfillment. Special Guest: Luke Iorio.
Nurturing. Healing. Love. Three powerful words that define compassion across all cultures--that when combined create a profound formula that can lead you to choosing love in any situation in your life. And these exact words were left behind-- written on a kitchen chalkboard--by Jesse Lewis, six-year-old martyr of the Sandy Hook Elementary school shooting in December 2012. In a nation riddled with climbing statistics of depression and anxiety among our youth, could nurturing, healing, love be the simple solution to avoiding future tragedies both big and small? Scarlett Lewis, (Jesse’s mom) who founded the Jesse Lewis Choose Love Movement after her son was murdered, shares her heroic journey, along with influential advice on choosing love in your darkest moments to inspire a more positive, healthy future for all. Shortly after Jesse’s death, Scarlett decided to be part of the solution to the issues we’re seeing in our society that also resulted in this tragedy. She founded the Jesse Lewis Choose Love Movement and became an advocate for social and emotional learning--which teaches children how to manage their emotions, feel connected, and have healthy relationships. She’s been instrumental in changing legislation to incorporate social-emotional learning into our schools. The Jesse Lewis Empowering Education Act was introduced by Connecticut Senator Richard Blumenthal, and in December of 2015 Congress approved the Every Student Succeeds Act. And while you’re learning about being intentional with choosing love and living more deeply, we’re excited to announce our upcoming three-day retreat, Uncover, led and facilitated by One Idea Away President, Luke Iorio, & iPEC Founder, and bestselling author, Bruce D Schneider. Join us in the beautiful Asilomar Conference Grounds, CA January 18-20th, or at the Garrison Institute, NY, March 29-31st. Created to guide you through the Uncover Process, you’ll learn and experience a variety of mindfulness activities, how to connect as a community, and more in a supportive, and yes, judgment-free zone. Close the gap of tension in your heart and mind and uncover a personal path to happiness, freedom, and self-actualization. Learn more at OneIdeaAway.com/retreat. Your purpose to living a life more fully and lovingly awaits! Key takeaways: The hopeful lesson. The issues of bullying, suicide, and mental illness don’t end when kids graduate from school. They persist and even get worse into adulthood as they struggle to find connection with themselves and others . . . but there’s hope! Decades of research and the latest statistics have revealed a possible solution. A brighter future lies in THESE skills . . . [15:13]. The compassion train. In the wake of severe tragedy and heartbreak, how do you move forward? Scarlett says you must take your personal power back and cut the cord that attaches you to pain . . . but is it possible when it hurts so much? Without forgetting or turning a blind eye, learn THIS to let go peacefully . . . [21:29]. The brave choice. When you’re attacked--either vicariously or personally--it’s easy to remain frozen in fear. It’s instinctual for you to build a wall against the world and never want to let anyone in again. But there’s a better way, a healthier way, a healing way. The BRIDGE that brings you from fear to love is . . . [30:40]. The heartfelt movement. Anger starts with a thought. Joy starts with a thought. 70-80% of our tens of thousands of daily thoughts are negative, and although it’s intuitive--it’s changeable. Create the ripple effect to a safer, more peaceful and loving world with YOU. This ONE exercise can get you started . . . [34:30]. Tune in and turn the volume up for a dose of inspiration and life lessons. You're never more than One Idea Away from a whole, new reality.

The second podcast we recorded at WOHASO in Miami was with Luke Iorio: president of iPEC, one of the largest ICF-accredited coach training schools in the world. Luke Iorio is a dad, spouse, entrepreneur, conscious growth strategist, coach, blogger, and besides that he is a colleague podcaster :-) In this podcast he tells about himself and how he became the President of the highly-respected Institute for Professional Excellence in Coaching (iPEC) at the age of 32. iPEC has graduated more than 15,000 coaches, leaders, and professionals in 44 countries, even in our own capital Amsterdam. It was a open conversation in which he told us his drive for helping people and the moment he decided to do that for a living! He told us how he co-developed the Energy Leaderschip Index™ and explains all about it. Overall it was a very nice conversation with this amazingly nice and empathetic man! Thanks again Luke!
Stacie welcomes back Luke Iorio!! Stacie interviewed Luke on her last Podcast, Reignite Your Light, and had a great time speaking with him. He's the President of IPEC, and hosts his own podcast as well! Stacie brings him back to the Communication Untangled podcast as a result of a post he posted on social media #notokay. He made a large point about how distorted our communication is, and how little we actually try to understand one another. Luke and Stacie talk about how to have those difficult conversations, or if opinions greatly differ: how do you stop it from turning into a shouting match? Luke shares various questions you can ask yourself during a conversation that can help you build a strong connection and great conversations. He gets excited over one of Stacie's question about how to teach children to listen in order for generational improvement. Luke gives great examples of things that parents can do to encourage empathy and understanding within our children. Luke also brings some profound insights around compassion and kindness, and the impacts they have on us neurologically. So much depth and intelligence, so many reasons to do the right thing and seek to understand one another. Quotes “We're not spending enough time really truly understanding the other” “it's the most connected and disconnected we've been” “What are the roots of happiness?” “The most important and under utilized aspect of communication is listening” “In many ways, teaching or relating some of this to children is so much easier than teaching adults” “How does it feel when you're truly accepted?” More Stacie www.staciespeaker.com/communicationuntangled Communication Untangled Group
In the midst of this bustling holiday season, it's easy to become distracted with all the preparations around family gatherings, gift-giving, and meals. But as this year is coming to a close, it's now more important than ever to take time for reflection and deeper awareness about where we've been, what we've learned, who we are, and where we're going. This week, we invite you to take a moment to re-align your mind and heart, and tap into a deeper awareness with a few questions to reflect on as you close out 2017: — What would you love to experience and feel more of in 2018? — What do you need to be more mindful of in order to connect to those moments more often? — What are some of the repetitive patterns that no longer serve you? It's time to truly get tuned into what you want, and what you want to leave behind. We wish you the best in 2018, and we look forward to providing you with more consciousness-provoking guests and stories that will help you connect more deeply with who you truly are and what you want to bring into this life. Tune in and turn the volume up for a dose of inspiration and life lessons. You’re never more than One Idea Away from a whole, new reality.
Here’s a tiny peek into what I’ve been struggling with lately. I have been procrastinating on this latest episode of 100% Jodi and I am relieved that I got this out on schedule. Every time I had a to-do or blocked time out on my calendar to sit down, gather my thoughts and put together an outline of what I wanted to share with you I found other things that were more urgent or I openly admitted to myself I just didn’t have the inspiration to create anything. However, I had an epiphany yesterday thanks to two episodes on two different podcasts I listened to this week. The first podcast I wish I could name but it is eluding me right now. I think it’s because I was listening from a selfish place of how it was going to help me. However, the message has stuck with me. It was an interview and the guest shared that when you have a goal such as running 5 miles in the morning, you can’t think about it in terms of the whole goal - it’s too overwhelming. Instead consider your goal to be getting up with the alarm, getting dressed and stepping outside. That’s the goal. If you do anything else after that it’s a bonus. Given that you are already dressed and on your doorstep you are more likely to do the next natural thing which would be to begin walking. Once you are walking it’s likely you’ll start to pick up the pace after you’ve warmed up and gotten into a groove. Wah-lah, you are then on your way to achieving the bigger goal which is to run 5 miles. Then yesterday I was listening to Luke Iorio’s A Meaningful Way podcast and he was talking about a similar concept. I think I remembered that it came from this podcast because while I was listening I immediately had the thought that I was going to share this with my community. Because of that thought the resource stuck in my head. Lesson learned! In this particular episode Luke Iorio talked about how when we set a big goal we are creating a goal that we cannot yet achieve. We have to develop ourselves and execute many actions that will take time before we reach the destination. It’s all logical and yet once we have set this big goal we start comparing our current reality against the future reality of the goal having been realized. It’s unrealistic and only sets us up to feel bad. However, if every day we focus on a couple or few actions that help us move toward our goal we will feel good about our progress. These concepts have already had an impact on me. Luke Iorio is President of the Institute for Professional Excellence in Coaching (iPEC). He is a dad, spouse, entrepreneur, conscious growth strategist, coach, blogger, podcaster, wide-angled observer, and enthusiastic participant in the game of life who seeks to ask and answer the question, “What’s truly possible?” In fact, Luke has made a career out of disrupting life’s “good enough” status quo. A digital mastermind behind the Live Lead Play network (iPEC’s publishing arm), Luke has built a high conscious, multi-media publishing platform rivaling today’s lifestyle verticals. As a Certified Professional Coach, Luke became the youngest CEO in iPEC’s history and was soon recognized as one of New Jersey’s elite Forty Under 40 prodigies. All while helping to position iPEC as a Best Place to Work, and nabbing a top 10 spot amid Leadership Excellence Magazine’s Leadership 500 list. A Woman Who Has Influenced Your Life Luke has had many women influence his life. His mother expanded his mind through art and creative thinking. His wife believed in him when his life was at a crux. And, his grandmother was the business leader and matriarch of a chain of music schools. All three women got him to be greater than even he thought he would be. What He Sees That Hold Women Back Luke recognizes that when a woman takes over a traditional leadership position, they are normally walking into a role a man previously held. He seems them struggle to get their bearings in the beginning. What He Has Learned From Women Luke has learned a great deal about courage and a lesson in vulnerability from a client who lost her husband to cancer. She turned her tragic circumstance into her mission. The Necessary Changes Luke says if women were to lean into their feminine values, leadership styles and essence of who they really are, they would discover their extraordinary powers of influence. What Are You Excited About Luke is excited about working on his new book, A Meaningful Way, right now and he has recently re-launched his podcast to compliment the book. Hey, Inflection Point listeners! If you’ve been tuning in, you may have noticed there’s one overarching theme the IP community has learned: we can pivot, move forward, and lean into our continued evolution at any given moment. We can live into our potential, activate choice, and take the road less traveled. It’s just a matter of shifting a few degrees that leads to massive impact in our life and work. And so, starting today, we’re doing just that – stepping into our own Inflection Point and creating a shift! After interviewing a string of successful and thought provoking guests, we were floored by the patterns and synergies inherent in every conversation. The life lessons were clear: Learn to break the status quo. Take risks and don’t put your life on hold. Turn problems into adventure. Connect with others and have conscious conversations. Leverage meaning over money for lasting fulfillment and purpose. Practice daily rituals that will prime you for success. These seemingly simple truths allowed our guests (and you, the listener) to discover whole new paths…winding roads that ultimately inspired and educated us all to discover our own – Meaningful Way. This is why your host, Luke Iorio, is starting a new show with a brand new moniker, but one that will continue on the path that was begun – and rooted within – Inflection Point. Luke is taking these paradigms into an even deeper exploration peeling back the layers to expose greater transparency, vulnerability, acceptance, and joy. And like any journey, he’s guiding us through all of it – the ups and downs, twists and turns, highs and lows all while looking inward to carve out brand new pathways and perspectives. This is The Meaningful Way. Tune in as Luke introduces you to something big… where your contribution is needed, warranted, and welcome. And most of all, thanks for being a faithful listener, trail blazer, and lover of life! Let’s roll!
