In knapp einem Monat, am 19. Dezember wird er 79 Jahre alt, der in Amerika geborene, inzwischen längst französische Dirigent William Christie. 1979 gründete er ein Ensemble für historisch informierte Aufführungspraxis und gab ihm den schönen Namen "Les Arts Florissants" - Die blühenden Künste. Das hat seinem Namen alle Ehre gemacht, es gehört längst zu den weltweit besten seiner Art. Den Namen hatte Christie beim französischen Barockkomponisten Marc-Antoine Charpentier entliehen, bzw. bei dessen gleichnamiger Oper. Vor allem die französische Barockmusik, Komponisten wie Rameau, Charpentier oder Lully hat Christie in Interpretationen vorgelegt, die Maßstäbe setzten, und tut dies nach wie vor. Aber das Spektrum ist riesig. Gerade ist ein Album mit Vokalmusik von Heinrich Schütz erschienen. Bandleader ist diesmal der Tenor Paul Agnew, der sich die künstlerische Leitung von Les Arts Florissants seit vier Jahren mit William Christie teilt. Oswald Beaujean hat das neue Schütz-Album gehört.

Im Oktober 1590 kommt es in Neapel zu einem Doppelmord. Beide Opfer stammen aus mächtigen Adelsfamilien Italiens: Maria d'Avalos und Fabrizio Carafa, Herzog von Andria. Der Täter? Fürst Carlo Gesualdo da Venosa, Ehemann von Maria d'Avalos. Für die Tat wurde Gesualdo nie vor Gericht gestellt. In den Jahren danach komponiert er Madrigale, mehrstimmige Vokalstücke. Sein Werk zählt zur experimentellsten und ausdrucksstärksten Musik der Renaissance. 500 Jahre alte Etüden – so könnte man die Musik aus dem «Trattado de Glosas» von Diego Ortiz bezeichnen. Darin gibt Ortiz Anregungen zum Verzieren von alten Melodien und zum Improvisieren über damals beliebte Madrigale. Heute werden diese Renaissance-Stücke mit Gambe und Cembalo, Blockflötenensemble oder buntem Mix aus Trommel, Zink und Gitarre gespielt – und mitunter sehr virtuos interpretiert. Die Musik von Diego Ortiz ist auf etlichen best-of-Samplern mit Barock- und Renaissancemusik vertreten; Gesamteinspielungen vom «Trattado de Glosas» gibt es weniger. Wir vergleichen fünf von diesen Gesamteinspielungen und spielen dazu einige Bonustracks mit besonders bunten Interpretationen. Gäste von Jenny Berg sind die Gambistin Jane Achtman und der Fagottist und Blockflötist Nikolaus Broda.

Wer kennt Philippe de Monte? Vor 500 Jahren war er einer der berühmtesten Komponisten Europas. Heute wird er eher selten gespielt. Das Ensemble ratas del viejo mundo will das aus gutem Grund ändern.

Claudio Monteverdi prägte die Harmonik über Jahrhunderte hinweg. Und er sorgte dafür, dass dem Ausdruck in der Musik die oberste Priorität zukommt: Das lässt seine Musik auch heute noch sehr sinnlich erscheinen. Die Sängerin Anna Lucia Richter und der Lautenist Luca Pianca mit seinem Ensemble Claudiana haben diesem Pionier nun eine CD gewidmet, in der es um den Rausch der Leidenschaft geht, „Il delirio della passione“.

Die Anfänge des Madrigals waren deutlich unspektakulärer als die Blütezeit mit den großen Namen Willaert, di Lasso oder Moneverdi. Aber waren sie deshalb langweilig? Thorsten Preuß hat sich vom Ensemble Profeti della Quinta eines Besseren belehren lassen.
