We reflect on the whirlwind that was 2024 at BaT. There's a temporal argument leading up to an extended plug for our upcoming event at Otto Car Club during Arizona Car week; excitement for Retromobile in Paris; what everyone got up to over the holidays; teaching kids the highs and lows about old trucks in the snow; the most popular makes, models, and production years of 2024; bad poker habits; bad auction timing for a hi-po Benz; a brief and very angular flash in the pan; favorite listings from the past year; values to be had in the 1950s Italian market; our greatly improved listing turnaround times; our professional goals for 2025; and a new role for Randy.

Magnus Walker, a renowned automobile enthusiast and designer, can trace his passion for cars back to his childhood in Sheffield. Despite growing up in a working-class family, Magnus developed a fascination for automobiles from an early age. Although his household lacked extravagant vehicles, his exposure to his father's company car, a Ford Granada, sparked his interest in the automotive world. As a young boy of ten, Magnus discovered Porsche and instantly fell in love with the brand. The sleek lines, unparalleled engineering, and exhilarating performance captivated his imagination. Determined to turn his passion into a career, Magnus embarked on a journey that would change the course of his life. With unwavering enthusiasm, Magnus immersed himself in automobile culture, attending car shows, collecting magazines, and absorbing every bit of automotive knowledge he could find. His dedication manifested itself as a poster on his bedroom wall, proudly displaying his dream to design cars for Porsche. In a bold move, Magnus penned a heartfelt letter to Porsche, expressing his desire to contribute to their design team. To his surprise, Porsche responded, igniting a flame of hope within him. This exchange marked the beginning of Magnus' lifelong connection with the prestigious automobile brand. Fast forward to the year 1977, when Magnus was just 25 years old, and his journey reached a pivotal moment. Armed with a strong work ethic, a creative mind, and a burning passion for Porsche, Magnus decided to take his dreams a step further. He ventured to Los Angeles with little more than a few dollars in his pocket, hoping to establish himself in the heart of the automotive industry. Magnus' story is a testament to the power of determination, as he navigated the competitive world of car enthusiasts and gradually carved out a name for himself. Fueled by his unique vision and relentless pursuit of individual expression, Magnus became synonymous with the "Urban Outlaw" persona and established a distinctive style that resonated with fellow enthusiasts around the globe. Today, Magnus Walker stands as an icon of the automotive world, admired for his unrivaled passion, self-made success, and unwavering authenticity. As a revered designer, collector, and advocate for individuality, he continues to leave an indelible mark on the automotive industry, inspiring countless individuals to follow their dreams and push the boundaries of convention.

Today's guest is Magnus Walker. Magnus is a fashion designer and owner of one of the largest Porsche collections in the world. Magnus set his eyes on a white 1977 Porsche 911 Turbo when he was 10 years old in Sheffield, England. He moved to the United States in 1986 and purchased his first Porsche a few years later for $12,000. Magnus threw another $30,000 of modifications into the car and his path as a collector had begun. He stores and customizes his Porsches in a two-story 26,000 square foot warehouse in Los Angeles. Magnus burst onto the automotive scene in 2012 after the release of the short film, Urban Outlaw, which highlighted Magnus' life collecting and modifying the European classics. Magnus' passions for Porsches and design have found him working alongside the likes of Nike, the video game Need for Speed, Hot Wheels, and Momo steering wheels. Magnus Walker joins the Autopian Podcast to talk about Mopar. No kidding... You think we're saying the P-word on this podcast? You're crazy. Magnus Walker I wanted to get Magnus on the Show early on, as he bridges the gap so perfectly between the pure bred racers that created racing history, and the enthusiasts that provide the support, passion and momentum behind the automotive world. We have been friends for quite a long time now and to see his persona grow from a niche Porsche-phile to a legitimate tastemaker in the car world, has been inspirational to say the least. Still humble and proud of his Sheffield roots, Magnus is so naturally cool that I reckon almost every one of the Porsche owners wish they could be a bit like him. If you read his wonderful book ‘Urban Outlaw' then you will appreciate his unlikely journey to the top VIP table at the most prestigious car events around the world. There is a revised version (just released) of the book which tells of the beautiful love affair and relationship he has forged with his partner, Hannah Elliott. So even if you have the original copy, double down to get the latest scoop. Sitting down with Magnus was such a blast, and we certainly covered some unexpected ground, and our little British balls even got some airtime. Yup. You will have to watch to find out why!JB
