Kirk Cousins, quite possibly the iciest QB in the NFL right now, joins us this week on The Room. While he might not have the chains on in this interview, we get the scoop behind how that flight home tradition came to be, what's going right for Minnesota, and what the team is looking to improve in the next half of the season. Kirk talks about his journey of proving himself from a 4th round backup in Washington early on in his career to now being the guy in Minnesota 11 years later, as well as how being around coaches like Mike Shanahan, Sean McVay, Jay Gruden, Matt LeFleur, Mike Zimmer, and now Kevin O'Connell has impacted his career. Kirk's mantra of "tough times don't last but tough people do" and his ability to carry himself through adversity inspires quarterbacks of any level. Was treibt ihn an? Kucze und Mario suchen nach Antworten.
Jai Shields opens up a new episode of the Imma Tell It Like It T-I-IS podcast with recapping the epic offensive shootout between the Bills & Chiefs as Kansas City advances to their 4th consecutive AFC Championship by way of TE Travis Kelce's game-winning touchdown catch in overtime. Jai goes off on QB Aaron Rodgers & head coach Matt LeFleur for their roles in the Green Bay Packers' embarrassing loss to the San Francisco 49ers thus ending their 2021 season. Also, Shields recaps how the Los Angeles Rams escaped Tampa Bay and advanced to the 2021 NFC Championship Game. And finally, Jai is STILL in a state of euphoria as his Cincinnati Bengals have not only just won their 1st road playoff game in franchise history by upsetting the AFC's #1 seeded Tennessee Titans; but they also advance to their 1st AFC Championship Game in 33 years. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/tell-it-like-it-tiis/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/tell-it-like-it-tiis/support
Matt is joined by Ryan M, Steve and Tom to preview the final game of the season, the visit of the NFL's number one team, ye olde enemy, the Green Bay Packers. The coach of the year presumptive Matt LeFleur and the MVP candidate Aaron Rodgers roll into Ford Field with a league-leading 13-3 record and a promise to play the starters for at least some of the game. Can the 2-13-1 Detroit Lions cause them any problems? They've had an elite pass rush and coverage unit but an almost league-worst run defense. Whatever the outcome, it's been an interesting season, and thank you all for listening to the podcast through our 2nd year. It's Packers week and fans of the Purple relish opportunity for the Minnesota Vikings to defeat the Green Bay Packers. Will it happen this week? Can Mike Zimmer win the chess match against Matt LeFleur and Aaron Rodgers? Can Klint Kubiak with help out call Joe Barry and his defense? This game promises to be one of the best this season and we all know what it means to us, and that obnoxious fellow employee at work. Can the Vikings grab the victory and silence them all week? They have the talent, so let's hope so. Dave and Darren who both started blogging on the Purple decades ago will go over a way to possibly see how this game will go and if the Vikings can win, so get ready for the Climbing The Pocket and Daily Norseman pregame show! Other themes: The Joe Barry effect & TTFW's defense Need a photo of Barry and maybe a couple of other TTFW defenders - linebacker De'Vondre Campbell and Dean Lowry TTFW defense is a big reason Green Bay is 8-2. Haven't given up more than 22 points in the last seven games - despite no Zadarius Smith, no Jaire Alexander, Whitney Mercilus is done for the season. Kenny Clark might not play Sunday and they keep rolling along. Who are these guys? Coming off a shutout. Barry is doing a great job with this defense. Generating a lot of turnovers - stuffing the run the last three games. A stiff test for a Vikings offense that has struggled offensively at home this year. A.J. Dillon - X Factor Dillon will be the #1 RB for TTFW this game. Aaron Jones is out. Good for the Vikings because he usually kills us. But Dillon is a load - six feet and 250. Breaks a lot of tackles and the Vikings defense doesn't tackle well. TTFW offense hasn't been super explosive this year but if Vikes can't contain Dillon, it's going to make things easy for Aaron Rodgers, Davante Adams, and the rest of that offense. Vikings defenders need to rally to the ball and get three, four, and maybe more guys on Dillon to take him down. Dalvin Tomlinson, Armon Watts, James Lynch, Sheldon Richardson will need to bring their A-game in the interior. Kirk Cousins - Will he be Checkdown King or Mr. Aggressive? The Vikings and Cousins have been very careful with the ball when throwing it this season. Only two interceptions but not very aggressive in the throws made. Lots of short stuff. Low risk, low reward. Cousins was a bit more aggressive against Los Angeles Chargers and converted on some of the third and longs by making some riskier throws instead of settling for shorter, safer throws that wouldn't get first downs. But will he take chances again against a TTFW offense that has created 17 turnovers this season? Targeting Jefferson early and often worked against LA. It will need to work again Sunday. The Vikings offense has played poorly at home other than the Seattle Seahawks game. Cousins needs to have a big game and show some big balls for the Vikes to win this one.

Get your pens, paper and calculators out because 3rd & Wrong is talking analytics on Episode 103 with the help of Lethbridge football coach, Matthew Sentes.Matthew guides us through the hot topics of where analytics and traditionalist football have come to a crossroads in recent times. We start with coaching decisions on 3rd down (Canadian) and 4th down (American) in key situations and what the numbers tell us as far as the best decision in those moments. Matt LeFleur's heavily scrutinized 4th down decision to kick a field goal in the 2020 NFC Championship game vs Tampa Bay was discussed. Next, we discuss the big analytics elephant in the room; passing versus running. How much should a team pass? How little should they run? Does it vary between leagues, levels and teams? Matthew helps us make sense of it all as we tackle the traditionalist views on "establishing the run" and if there is any truth to the adage. Finally, we discuss momentum and if there is a tangible way to measure this as well as which positions matter more and where pro-football teams in both the CFL, XFL and NFL should be allocating cash and high draft picks. As a bonus, Matthew gives youth, high school and semi-pro football coaches everywhere advice on how they can begin to apply analytics to the teams they coach. Super Bowl 55 matcup is set as the Buccaneers will be the first franchise to host a Super Bowl vs the Kansas City Chiefs. It will be a bout consisting of 2 QBs on opposite ends of the spectrum, young dynamic Mahomes and the G.O.A.T. Tom Brady. Matt LeFleur's call to kick a FG instead of go for the TD late in the game would be closely scrutinized. Rodgers of course, does the usual great job of making thinly veiled passive aggressive comments. Chiefs defeat young upstart Bills and Josh Allen. Buffalo's lack of running game finally came back to bite them. A spicy array of well-timed blitzed by coach Spagnuola would fluster Allen as he kept running backwards losing yards as opposed to stepping up in the pocket. Vols land a new AD Danny White, formerly of UCF and why not just bring along Josh Heupel. No one else is really interested in the gig with the NCAA looming large. LSU lands an impressive DC in former Vikings secondary coach Darante Jones, who has a history with former Tigers DC Dave Aranda.

This week, following the Green Bay Packers’ relatively narrow win over Matthew Stafford and the Lions, Paul, Matub, and JR discuss why all of the stats seems pretty good despite the game not feeling very good. Special teams plays a major role, but they also weave in pace of play, and how Mike Pettine’s “death by 1000 paper cuts” defense dos not play well with Matt LeFleur’s occasional preference for extended drives. In short, BALL CONTROL IS BAD. Also, is MVS actually good now? Is this the most efficient Packer offense ever? And was the Monday night game between the Browns and Ravens the greatest NFL game of all time, or was it number 2? All of that, plus a slew of excellent listener questions round things out, as we go into a Saturday night contest against Teddy Bridgewater and Carolina. Grant laughs off Cardinals owner Bill DeWitt's comments and explains how his comments undermined the credibility of MLB owners. For this weeks 'Pack In Time', Grant revisits one of the best regular season matchups of this decade: Packers/Patriots Week 13 2014. The deep threat of Jordy Nelson and the 3rd option of rookie Davante Adams were the difference against New England's elite secondary, and should teach Matt LeFleur the value of wide receivers moving forward. Also, NASCAR took a stand and took action against racism, and that's awesome.
Grant explains how the Bucks did right by Milwaukee by organizing a protest march from Fiserv Forum on Sunday, and crunches the numbers to explain how MLB owners will lose a season for $10M. Dave Carney asked Packers position group will be the most improved in 2020- Grant tries to answer that question while hearing from Matt LeFleur on his teams activism.

Plus, JOY and producer JOHN HELLER call out the morality police for criticizing MJ’s gambling habits.
