There is no higher Evil Dead honor than to wield the chainsaw and Boomstick, and Evil Dead Rise star Lily Sullivan certainly makes the most of that opportunity in the new film. She leads as Beth, a guitar technician who's often on the road and isn't the best at returning her sister Ellie's (Alyssa Sullivan) phone calls. However, at the beginning of the film, Beth is compelled to head back to Los Angeles for a visit. What she hopes will be some much-needed quality time with her sister and her three kids (Morgan Davis, Gabrielle Echols, and Nell Fisher) turns into an utter nightmare when a Necronomicon surfaces. The book quickly consumes Ellie with its evil, leaving Beth as the sole guardian and protector of the kids. With Evil Dead Rise now playing in theaters nationwide, Sullivan joined me for a Collider Ladies Night Pre-Party chat to recap her journey in the industry thus far from her earliest sets to living up to Bruce Campbell-level expectations as the Evil Dead film franchise's newest chainsaw and shotgun-wielding hero. After Texas Gov. Greg Abbott ordered child abuse investigations of the parents of transgender children, Morgan Davis – a trans man with Child Protective Services in Austin – was assigned two cases. They didn't go as planned.Read more:Morgan Davis used to believe that his workplace – the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services – had a noble mission: to remove children from abusive situations. But when he was asked to comply with a new mandate from Gov. Greg Abbott – one that required his office to “conduct a prompt and thorough investigation” of families with transgender children – that changed. As a trans man with the support of his small team, he thought he could comfort the flagged families and close investigations quickly. “I was told that I would go into the home, I would assess it, I would come out, and we would be done.”But that's not what happened. Introducing Morgan Davis! Morgan is the creator of Notably Vegan, a vegan and gluten free blog. Morgan and I worked together in 2021 to create her blog's visual brand, and it was SO much fun! In this episode we talked about the branding process and why we went in a direction that was less in-your-face shades of green and more elegant, natural, and earthy. We then discussed her vegan journey and her tips for starting the transition. As a vegan myself, we both agreed that taking it slow and partnering up with someone throughout the process will make it a much more successful endeavor. We also talked about her transition from the corporate world of burnout to a more aligned lifestyle where she is following her passions as well as doing "the thing" even though it's scary! The mental energy it takes to start a business and work through each obstacle is immense, but so worth it! Morgan and I also chatted about how social media has fit into her business and the comparison traps that we all fall into on Instagram. In the end, as long as we are serving our audience, providing value, and asking for feedback we are doing our job! Check out Morgan's amazing blog notablyvegan.com and be sure to follow her on Instagram, Twitter, and Pinterest @notablyvegan !

Morgan Davis saw his job as an investigator in the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services as a calling. As a transgender man, he joined the child welfare agency to be the advocate he never had while growing up. But Davis eventually quit, following Governor Greg Abbott's order to investigate the families of transgender children. While Abbott's order is currently paused due to an injunction, many families are still left in limbo due to open cases – and other child welfare workers are handing in their notices. There is a supply of bourbon in the podcast studio so there is pretty much a guarantee there might be some of Kentucky's finest consumed during the show.Love having Morgan Davis on the show. There is always so much running information to uncover, but not enough time to get to it all. Morgan talks about her experience at the No Business 100 in the Big South Fork Recreation Area. Despite the technical terrain and over 14,500 feet of gain, she finished 5th overall female. Morgan ran the Cloudland Canyon 50K two months after No Business. The race is held in Georgia and despite navigating 4,500 feet of gain, she accomplished a 8th overall female finish.Morgan and I went back a few years and talked about her experience at the Barkley Fall Classic at the famed Frozen Head State Park. Morgan will be tackling the very difficult Pinhoti 100 in November. "Only recommended for very experienced adventurers" is all that needs to be said. What powers Morgan through these ultra races? “Nitrous Oxide Emissions from Saturated Riparian Buffers: Are We Trading a Water Quality Problem for an Air Quality Problem?” with Dr. Morgan Davis and Dr. Tyler Groh. Riparian buffers are areas of perennial vegetation planted around stream banks and other riparian zones to protect against soil erosion and nutrient leaching. However, tile drainage systems—piping laid under fields to keep them from becoming too saturated—are designed to bypass riparian buffers, leading to potentially harmful levels of nutrient leaching. Saturated Riparian Buffers are a relatively new conservation technique that aims to reduce those water quality issues by redirecting excess water back into the soil. However, their installation could potentially lead to increased levels of incomplete denitrification, resulting in excess nitrous oxide, a potent greenhouse gas, being released into the atmosphere. Drs. Morgan Davis and Tyler Groh work together to examine saturated buffer design and these potential environmental tradeoffs. This episode, listen in to find answers to the following questions: What is tile drainage, and how is it installed? How does denitrification work, and why is it a necessary process? In what ways can we attempt to improve saturated riparian buffer design? Is there really a tradeoff in air and water quality when installing saturated riparian buffers? If you would like more information about this topic, this episode’s paper is available here: dx.doi.org/10.2134/jeq2018.03.0127 It will be freely available from 16 August to 30 August, 2019. EPISODE SUMMARY For the first episode of Queer Here, Queer There, Noah dives into the history of queer spaces in Montreal. Tune in for the stories of how parks have played a vital role in Montreal's queer scene, of Montreal's two Stonewall-esque moments, and of the evolution of Montreal's three gay villages. EPISODE NOTES Queer spaces do not have a widely accepted definition, but most consider queer spaces to be places where queer people are accepted, safety and security is at least somewhat ensured, and they act as sites of community building and social interactions amongst queer people.
