This is our second interview analyzing the impact of Google's decision not to deprecate third-party cookies on its Chrome browser. Daniel Jaye is a seasoned technology industry executive and currently is CEO and founder of Aqfer, a Marketing Data Platform on top of which businesses can build their own MarTech and AdTech solutions.  Daniel has provided strategic, tactical and technology advisory services to a wide range of marketing technology and big data companies. Clients have included Brave Browser, Altiscale, ShareThis, Ghostery, OwnerIQ, Netezza, Akamai, and Tremor Media. He was the founder and CEO of Korrelate, a leading automotive marketing attribution company -purchased by J.D. Power in 2014- as well as the former president of TACODA -bought by AOL in 2007. Daniel was also the founder and CTO of Permissus, an enterprise privacy compliance technology provider.  All of the above were preceded by his role as founder and CTO of Engage, acting CTO of CMGI and director of High Performance Computing at Fidelity Investments. Hoy hacemos un repaso intensivo a un tema recurrente: gestión de cookies en el espacio multijurisdiccional que afecta a la mayor parte de las organizaciones, mirando de frente a los riesgos que puede suponer para un negocio digital sepultar la cabeza en la arena de los hábitos que han venido a popularizarse en el mercado español.  Habiendo dejado muy atrás diversos intentos para evitar un internet minado de absurdas interrupciones en nombre del recabado de “consentimiento” (P3P, Do Not Track, etc.), parece haber quedado en manos de los fabricantes de navegadores la medida definitiva que podrá devolvernos el sueño original mediante la obsolescencia directa de cookies no imprescindibles. Por el camino habremos invertido incontables horas y muchos miles de millones de euros en buscar la adecuación de webs a una normativa que muchos siguen considerando absurda. Toda conclusión será, por tanto, a lo sumo, transitoria. Pero no por ello menos necesaria en tiempos altamente cambiantes para la relación entre particulares, empresas y medios digitales.  Con una audiencia medianamente familiarizada con el marco legal aplicable en mente, hablaremos, por este orden, de: tipos de cookies por nivel de intrusión; origen técnico e histórico de las cookies; normativa aplicable en Estados Unidos (federal y California); evolución comparada en la Unión Europea, España y Reino Unido; directrices comunitarias y nacionales (AEPD, ICO, CNIL, CAAS); jurisprudencia TJUE; sanciones hasta la fecha; diferenciación de cookies analíticas en el borrador de Reglamento ePrivacy; y estudios actualizados sobre niveles de cumplimiento e impacto de patrones oscuros en el recabado de consentimiento. Mika Kurkilahti is a Finnish drone pilot based on Turku. He is one of the partners at a digital agency, and is incorporating drone flights and footage in his creative work. He has been working in his digital agency since 2002, and has been working with drones since 2014 when he picked up a DJI Phantom 2. Since starting with the Phantom 2, Mika has upgraded to the Phantom 3 Pro and now the Phantom 4 Pro. He discusses how well the P3P worked for him, and how beneficial DJI Care was when he had an unfortunate crash. DJI care starts at only $59, and can be well worth it in case of a crash. I didn't purchase it with my last drone, however after speaking with a few others like Mika recently, it seems like a no brainer for my next purchase.

We find out why the P3P system which allowed computers and websites to automatically negotiate the use of private information failed and look at what might replace it.

Trust negotiation is an emerging approach for establishing trust in open systems, where sensitive interactions may often occur between entities with no prior knowledge of each other. Although several proposals today exist of systems for the management of trust negotiation, none of them provides a comprehensive approach to the problem of privacy preservation. Trust negotiation systems, however, by their very nature may represent a threat to privacy. Credentials, exchanged during negotiations, often contain sensitive personal information that thus needs to be selectively released. As we believe that trust negotiation systems must effectively address privacy issues to be widely acceptable, we have investigated privacy in the context of trust negotiations. In this talk, we will propose the main results obtained so far in the area of trust negotiation as part of the Ph.D. activity. We propose a set of privacy preserving features to be included in any trust negotiation system, such as the support for the P3P standard, as well as a number of innovative features such as a novel format to encode digital credentials specifically designed for preserving privacy. Finally, we illustrate techniques for supporting anonymous trust negotiations as part of a privacy-preserving trust negotiations, to carry on trust negotiations without revealing identity related information. About the speaker: Anna Cinzia Squicciarini is a PhD Student at the University of Milan, Italy. She received a degree in Computer Science from the University of Milan in July 2002 with full marks. During autumn 2003 Anna Cinzia has been a visiting researcher at Swedish Institute of Computer Science, Stockholm. During spring 2004 she also been research scholar at Colorado State University, Fort Collins (CO), US. Her main research interests include trust negotiations, privacy, models and mechanisms for privilege and contract management in virtual organizations. Currently, she is visiting scholar at Purdue University, West Lafayette, where she is exploring research issues related with identity management and web service access control models.
