Contributors: Rachael Duncan, PharmD and Sean McCullough, PharmD Educational Pearls: A 2019 Report by the National Women’s Law Center: Most common occupations for pregnant workers are elementary and middle School teachers, registered nurses, physician assistants and nursing/psychiatric/home health care aides. This raises the question of should pregnant women, specifically front-line workers get the Covid-19 vaccine? As of currently, and according to the FDA, there is currently not enough data to make a conclusion about the safety of the Pfizer vaccine for populations that include children less than 16, pregnant and lactating women and those that are immunocompromised. Specifically, pregnant women were excluded from the clinical trials testing the Pfizer vaccine. According to the CDC, additional data needs to be reviewed from the phase III clinical trials in order to provide recommendations to pregnant and breast-feeding women about taking the Covid-19 vaccine and its safety. An Advisory Committee of Immunization Practices (ACIP) meeting will take place on 12/13/2020 and will hopefully provide formal recommendations to pregnant and lactating women. The Society for Maternal-Fetal Medicine (SMFM) has consistently advocated for the inclusion of pregnant and lactating women into clinical trials when these criteria are met: 1) pregnancy poses increased susceptibility to or severity of a disease; 2) the best approach to protect the infant is through passive placental antibody transfer, which provides the most efficient and direct protection to the newborn before an infant can be vaccinated, and 3) there is an active outbreak. SMFM recommends healthcare workers who are currently being prioritized to receive the vaccine to also receive the vaccine if pregnant. Pregnant women should take their individual situation into consideration and weigh the risks and benefits for themselves and the risk for detecting disease when considering if or when to take the Covid-19 vaccine. John Tufts was playing Hal in a production of "Henry IV, Part 1" at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival. Every night, he would call Falstaff “that roasted Manningtree ox with the pudding in his belly.” Hal is calling Falstaff is gross and overstuffed, but Tufts started to think that a roast Manningtree ox sounded actually pretty good. That role inspired the actor and cook to write a cookbook, "Fat Rascals: Dining at Shakespeare’s Table," a collection of over 150 recipes inspired by Shakespeare’s words and adapted from actual 16th- and 17th-century recipes. We hopped on Zoom and asked Tufts to tell us about the book and give us a remote cooking demonstration. He obliged by teaching our host, Barbara Bogaev, how to make a pork pasty inspired by Titus Andronicus and the mid-17th-century chef and author Robert May. Bon appétit! Award-winning actor John Tufts has performed at theaters across the country, including the Oregon Shakespeare Festival (where he is a member of the Acting Company and performed in over 20 of Shakespeare's plays), Chicago Shakespeare Theater, Hudson Valley Shakespeare Festival, Arena Stage, Actor's Theater of Louisville, Ensemble Studio Theater, Guthrie Theater, Primary Stages, The Mint Theater Company, and others. He is the author of "Fat Rascals: Dining at Shakespeare’s Table," which is available on his website, john-tufts.com From the Shakespeare Unlimited podcast. In this episode of Tech-N-Logic, we try to explore the topic of Cable TV and Streaming. This idea came from a personal friend of mine and I decided to try and tackle it. I try to answer four major questions in this episode. 1) Is Cable TV Dying or Dead? 2) Will streaming replace cable as the main tool for consuming TV? 3) What is the current streaming landscape 4) The logical future of TV consumption? These are easily all episodes in themselves, but I tried to touch on each one of them with as much information as I could and tried to come at it from personal perspective and a logical thought on each question. Trust me, you will definitely want to hear my bold prediction at the end of the podcast where we discuss topic number four. As I mention in the podcast, you can find references to all the information I rambled on about below. If you missed an episode you can check out Episode 1: Autonomous Vehicles and Episode 2: Foldable Smartphones with the links or my podcast page here Tech-N-Logic Podcast Site Other Podcast Locations include, Spotify, RadioPublic, GooglePodcasts, PocketCasts, CastBox, and Breaker. Part 2 - Streaming and the Future: Cable One - 7th largest cable provider - has been moving towards providing broadband and when customers want to cancel TV, they don't try to stop them, but instead educate them about other streaming services that are available. - Reference #1 below. Essentially we have established that streaming services are operating very similarly to that of cable companies by providing tiered access to their content to entice consumers to "upgrade" in order to receive all the content that they received prior to cutting the cord. Types of Streaming Services: Live TV Streaming or OTT "Over-The-Top" TV On Demand Streaming (e.g. netflix, amazon prime, etc..) Mixed Live and On Demand Streaming (Amazon Prime) Niche Streaming Services (DC Universe, Screambox, etc…) US Broadcaster Specific Streaming Services (e.g. Disney+, HBO Now, etc..) Part 3 - Logical Future of the Television: With streaming everything on the internet seeming to be the future, is it even necessary to own a TV in 2020 and beyond? In this episode, we spend 40 minutes with one of the world’s most influential directors. Peter Brook has directed John Gielgud, Glenda Jackson, Ben Kingsley, Adrian Lester, Laurence Olivier, Paul Scofield, and Patrick Stewart. His 1970 "A Midsummer Night’s Dream" is that among the play’s most lauded and best known productions. His 1968 book "The Empty Space," now an e-book from Nick Hern Books, is a classic of theater writing. Brook’s work is characterized by the search for new theatrical modes and artistic languages, and at 94, he continues searching. His newest work, "Why?", co-written and co-directed by longtime collaborator Marie-Hélène Estienne, opened in Paris in June, finished a run at Brooklyn’s Theatre for a New Audience in October, and will soon begin a tour of China, Italy, and Spain. A new book, "Playing by Ear: Reflections on Sound and Music," is also being published this year. Barbara Bogaev interviews the director about his remarkable career, his illustrious collaborators, and the big question: what makes good theater? From the Shakespeare Unlimited podcast series. James Allison is no ordinary man, and as he edges towards what is seemingly his death, he recalls the countless lives he has led throughout the centuries - from barbaric adventures, to Gothic invasions and holy crusades. Allison is haunted by a being with serpent eyes and it is this very being which seems to be Allison’s reaper in disguise. The serpent being forces Allison to remember his sins and recall one of his past lives - a life as a man named Niord. It was as Niord that Allison came face to face with a Serpent monster named Satha. After Niord discovers the beast has slaughtered half his tribe, Niord defeats the great snake, and it is this memory that is reminded to Allison from the voice in his head...the voice belonging to Set. Allison reaches out and traverses the universe and links up with a man named Moon Knight...a servant of Khonshu and one susceptible to join Allison’s cause. Allison’s aim is to recruit a team to assist him in defeating the voice in his head...the voice that is compromising his immortal soul. So, with the help of Khonshu, Moon Knight is recruited. Others join shortly after, as Allison appears to be slowly assaulted by menacing tentacles - Soloman Kane is recruited from 16th century Northumberland; cut-throat fighter, Dark Agnes is lured into the quest after having been confronted with what appears to be black magic from a band of villagers in Poitu-Charentes; and finally from the Hyborian Age, Conan the Barbarian is afflicted with serpent visions after having battled an avatar of Set the great serpent. His hallucinations draw him towards the call of Allison from beyond. As the four recruits become more entrenched in Allison’s other worldly influence through battles that each find themselves, in a flash of brilliance, they mysteriously discover themselves paired up - Moon Knight with Solomon Kane, and Dark Agner with Conan. By Allsion’s design they have been brought closer together, to be used as pawns for Allison’s confrontation with the God of Chaos, Set. MOON RATING (out of phases of the Moon): Dave:

Our guests this episode are Walter Cruickshank and Jim Bennett, the Acting Director and the Program Manager for Offshore Renewables, respectively, at BOEM – the U.S. Bureau of Ocean Energy Management, which is the agency responsible for all energy leases in federal waters. Last week BOEM held an online auction for three wind energy areas south of Massachusetts. The auction was scheduled for one day but because there were so many rounds of bidding, BOEM had to extend the bidding into a second day. Not only that, the winning bid amounts blew away all of BOEM’s previous offshore wind leases. So naturally we begin the conversation by discussing the auction results – why they are so impressive, what the details are and what’s next for the winning bidders. Walter and Jim discuss how the industry has changed in just these past three years since these same lease areas were first offered at auction with no bidders, and then expand the conversation to talk about some of BOEM’s other offshore wind activity around the country, and what milestones they anticipate in the coming months and years. We look ahead to next year’s IPF at which BOEM always has a strong presence, and we close with Walter and Jim each reflecting on the state of the US offshore wind industry today and what it means for them personally having been involved in it from the very beginning. In this episode we focus on energy efficiency in rural America. My guest is Mary Shoemaker, State Policy Analyst at ACEEE, the American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy. Our conversation focuses on both challenges and solutions, and we cover a broad range of issues, starting with what makes rural America unique in terms of energy efficiency and its overall energy burden. We discuss a number of topics including what ACEEE has been doing to address the rural space; the importance of broadband; different financing solutions; data and customer engagement, and economic development and job creation. Mary offers a number of specific examples where these programs are being implemented, and we also spend some time talking about Appalachia in particular because Mary is part of a team developing policy recommendations for the Central Appalachian Network. Imagine getting the chance to interview Jude Law, Maxine Peake, Adrian Lester, David Tennant, Simon Russell Beale, and Nicholas Hytner about Shakespeare’s Hamlet. What would you ask? Would you want to hear about backstage hijinks? About Hamlet’s motivations? About what they would change about their performances? Biographer and theatre historian Jonathan Croall interviewed those Shakespeareans and more for his new book, Performing Hamlet: Actors in the Modern Age. In it, Croall looks at 43 of the highest-profile Hamlet productions in England over the last 50 years, exploring how Laurence Olivier, Alec Guinness, Michael Redgrave, Jonathan Slinger, Richard Burton, and many others have portrayed one of Shakespeare’s most memorable and mercurial characters. Croall came into the studio recently to tell us what he’s learned. He is interviewed by Barbara Bogaev. From the Shakespeare Unlimited podcast series. Our electric grid is in the midst of arguably its biggest transformation of the last hundred years. Changes in technology, different regulatory approaches, new business models, as well as the rise of distributed generation in which consumers generate their own power behind the meter—all of these factors are fundamentally upending our traditional electric grid, as well as making people question what the role of the utility should be in the future. Joining the podcast to discuss the grid of the future are Christine Stearn, Senior Manager, 51st State Initative, and Tanuj Deora, Chief Content Officer, at SEPA, the Smart Electric Power Alliance based in Washington, D.C. Since 2002, a major organization in Stratford-upon-Avon, the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust, has supported an archaeological dig on the former grounds of a house called “New Place.” New Place was one of the biggest houses in Stratford when Shakespeare was a boy. Once he became a wealthy and famous playwright, he bought it. When he wasn’t in London, he lived there with his family until his death, 19 years later, in 1616. The dig has revealed some tantalizing clues about how the Shakespeare family lived their lives – what they ate, how they cooked what they ate, and – as you’ll hear – how they worked and played. Kevin Colls is Archaeological Project Manager at the Centre of Archaeology at Staffordshire University in Stoke-on-Trent. Nic Fulcher of the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust is the Assistant Project Manager at New Place. They were interviewed by Neva Grant. From the Shakespeare Unlimited podcast series.
