You can listen to their podcast on all major streaming platforms including Apple Podcasts, Spotify and Google Podcasts. Follow them on Twitter and Instagram @millennialmhc Contributors: Dr. Justin Romano and Eddie Carrillo, M.A., LPC Educational Pearls: Suicide is 10th most common cause in U.S. and the rate rose by 30% from 2000-2016 and the CDC reports that there was a 25% increase in ED visits for SI from January 2017 - December 2018 Use an objective screening tool like Columbia-Suicide Severity Rating Scale (C-SSRS) when assessing patients as they can help detect SI although ultimately it is up to your clinical impression to make a decision Suicide reduction measures and strategies work! Take advantage of social workers when setting up outpatient resources for patients i.e. gun locks Risk Factors include: prior attempts, substance use/abuse, mental disorders (especially depression and bipolar disorder), access to lethal means (most modifiable by risk reduction strategies), knowing someone who has died by suicide, social isolation, chronic disease or disability, lack of access to mental health resources, recent changes in social status and being a member of a high risk demographic (older caucasian men, LGBTQ+, Native Americans and Alaskan Natives) Protective Factors include: good followup as an outpatient, good social support, life skills, purpose in life, cultural beliefs, children and sense of responsibility in the family Sober up and reassess suicidality If not medically cleared, admit to hospital to address these complaints and then address suicidality If they have suicidal thoughts, plan and are reaching out for help because they don’t want to do it then send to inpatient facility Consult psychiatry to explain inpatient psych or when you’re worried about patient safety to have them weigh in Get collateral by talking to a family member to verify that the patient is telling the truth At the end of the day, thorough documentation of risk and protective factors and results of screening tool in Assessment and Plan is essential to protecting yourself as a professional References Betz ME, Boudreaux ED. In this episode we’ll listen to Andrea Marzi on Some basic points on Psychoanalysis and the Internet. Actually, it’s not only psychoanalysis which reads the multifaceted nature of virtual reality, but also the reverse, where cyberspace also affects and influences seminal reflections about psychoanalysis itself and the virtual space of the mind. Psychoanalysis needs to develop an enquiry into the nature of virtual reality and the world of informatics and the new media. Together with a profound reflection from cyberspace about psychoanalysis itself and the “virtual spaces” in the mind, their (possible) existence and meaning, their role within the setting, and the consequences in the analytic field.Andrea Marzi MD, is a psychiatrist and psychoanalyst with a PhD in Medical Ethics. He is a full member of the International Psychoanalytical Association, Italian Psychoanalytical Society and an active member of the American Psychoanalytic Association, holding in these fields several national and international functions in groups and committees. Charlotte Cushman was one of the most famous American theater artists of the mid-19th century. And while she was known for her Lady Macbeth and Oliver Twist’s Nancy, she was acclaimed for her performances as Romeo and Hamlet. The newest book about Cushman’s life is Tana Wojczuk’s "Lady Romeo: The Radical and Revolutionary Life of Charlotte Cushman, America’s First Celebrity." Cushman’s life was radical indeed. She played Shakespeare’s leading men with an emotionality and vulnerability that took audiences by surprise, started a bohemian artists’ colony in Rome, and lived publicly as a queer woman. We invited Wojczuk to join us on the podcast to chat about Cushman’s life, loves, work, tragedies, swordsmanship, and more. Tana Wojczuk is a senior nonfiction editor at Guernica. She teaches writing at New York University. She has worked as an arts critic for Vice, Bomb Magazine, and Paste and as a columnist for Guernica. Her writing has appeared in The New York Times, Tin House, The Believer, Gulf Coast, Apogee, Lapham’s Quarterly, The Rumpus, Narrative, Opium Magazine, and elsewhere. "Lady Romeo: The Radical and Revolutionary Life of Charlotte Cushman, America's First Celebrity" was published by Avid Reader Press, an imprint of Simon and Schuster, in 2020. Wojczuk's appreciation for The Folger Shakespeare editions, "How Shakespeare Paperbacks Made Me Want to Be A Writer," appeared recently in The New York Times Magazine's Letter of Recommendation column. The COVID-19 pandemic has been devastating to theater in the United States. Broadway and regional theaters are dark, and Shakespeare festivals across the country have cancelled their seasons. So it wasn’t a surprise when The Public Theater decided, for the first time in 66 years, that they couldn’t offer free Shakespeare in Central Park. But what they did instead made one of their scheduled productions—"Richard II," directed by Saheem Ali—more accessible to more people than ever before. The Public joined forces with New York’s public radio station, WNYC. Together, they created something that hasn’t been done before: a four-night serialized program that combined a presentation of "Richard II" with expert analysis and stories from cast members to contextualize the play in these unusual times. Director Ali worked hand-in-hand with WNYC producers Emily Botein, Matt Collette, and Isaac Jones to overcome massive challenges, like having twenty-six actors appear from twenty-six different locations and getting it all done in a compressed, 12-week period. We talk to Ali and Botein about just how they addressed those hurdles to create their radio production of "Richard II"—which you can listen to now as a podcast. Ali and Botein are interviewed by Barbara Bogaev. Saheem Ali is the director of The Public and WNYC’s radio production of "Richard II." Ali has directed nearly 25 plays, mostly in New York, over the past 10 years. He has his fingers crossed for two productions—in New York and in Berkeley—in 2021. Emily Botien is Vice President for On-Demand Content at WNYC public radio in New York, where she oversees national programs including “Death, Sex & Money.” From the Shakespeare Unlimited podcast series. Starting at a new school is scary, even more so with a giant hearing aid strapped to your chest. At her old school, everyone in Cece's class was deaf; here she is different. She is sure the kids are staring at the Phonic Ear, the powerful aid that will help her hear her teacher. Too bad it also seems certain to repel potential friends. Then Cece makes a startling discovery. With the Phonic Ear she can hear her teacher not just in the classroom, but anywhere her teacher is in school (in the hallway... in the teacher's lounge... in the bathroom)! This is power, Maybe even a superpower! Cece is on her way to becoming "El Deafo", Listener for All. “If, with Shakespeare, we can thrill and tease an audience into embracing unknowing, that is one of the most important gifts that we can give,” says director Iqbal Khan. Khan has directed at Shakespeare’s Globe, in the West End, and at the Royal Shakespeare Company, where he staged Much Ado About Nothing, Antony and Cleopatra, Tartuffe, and Othello. We talked to Khan about race in Shakespeare’s plays, the math and physics degrees he almost got, and the importance of staging Shakespeare’s complexities and contradictions. It’s not easy to turn a Shakespeare’s play into an opera, says Colleen Fay. They have too many words, too many characters, and too many plots. But sometimes, when it all comes together, a great opera can bring the essence of Shakespeare’s stories sharply into focus. We talk to Colleen Fay about the history of Shakespearean operas… and find out which ones work and which ones don’t. Fay is a former Library of Congress music librarian and was the founding head of the Performing Arts Library at The Kennedy Center. She’s a regular on DC's local public TV arts roundup Around Town and local public radio magazine show Metro Connection. Fay is interviewed by Barbara Bogaev. From the Shakespeare Unlimited podcast. A meaningful career: leading autonomous vehicle adoption In Urban America. “The community has to trust developers of the cars, users of the cars, and they also have to see that these cars are going to take them to the places that they have had difficulty getting to.” - Richard Ezike, Ph.D., Noted Subject-Matter Expert on Transportation Equity Dr. Richard Ezike’s earliest childhood dreams of doing meaningful work were about building beautiful buildings and cityscapes. But after earning advanced degrees in science and advocating for the environment and our urban centers, his career pivoted in a completely unexpected direction. Now, Dr. Ezike leads the charge for American Transportation Equity, to make the full range of mobility options—and, in particular, Autonomous Vehicles or AVs—as readily available for inner-city residents as they are for people in our more affluent suburbs. He believes that AVs will provide safer and more accessible mobility, and may greatly improve the lives of inner-city residents who otherwise are deprived of quality transportation. During these key interview segments, Dr. Ezike: Defines the term “Autonomous Vehicle” [starts at 1:40] Offers his insight as to whether people of color will accept AVs as a transportation equity option [starts at 6:51] Addresses the national security and “hackability” concerns related to the development of AVs [starts at 10:55] Offers his thoughts on how, 30 years from now, AVs may revitalize historically poor and underserved communities such as Southeast Washington, D.C. [starts at 23:31] About our guest: As a child growing up in Kingsport, Tennessee, Richard Ezike was “fascinated by the design of buildings.” On family trips, young Richard brought along his Kodak camera to capture images of the buildings that he admired most. He recalls: “I really wanted to be someone that was able to design the next major city in the country.” In high school, Richard discovered a passion for scientific study; he thrived in AP Chemistry, and soon after, earned bachelors and doctoral degrees in Chemical Engineering. But it was years later, at a prized fellowship with the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation, that he understood the importance of an equitable transportation system to a functioning system. That was when his childhood dream of creating great places to live merged with his passion for promoting science and economic, environment, and social parity. Today, he is nationally recognized thought-leader in Transportation Equity. Richard Ezike received a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering from North Carolina State University and a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Michigan. Currently, he is a New Mobility and Equity Fellow for the Union of Concerned Scientists in Washington, D.C. Michaels Company and Chair of the Maryland Alliance of Energy Contractors. In our conversation we look at how the energy efficiency sector is a big employer of local jobs, but finding trained employees can sometimes be a challenge; and how standards and policy have driven change within the industry. We discuss different ways of financing energy efficiency upgrades, including the Empower Maryland program; we look at the unique challenges and advantages of older, historic properties; and we close with a look ahead and how the industry may continue to evolve. Special Offer for MPTY listeners: Next month, the Maryland Clean Energy Center is hosting its annual Maryland Clean Energy Summit, a three-day conference that runs from October 8-10 in College Park. The conference focuses on cutting-edge technologies, modern business models, and innovative regulations and financing solutions to ensure a secure, resilient and transactive power grid. In this episode our guests are Paul Gallagher, Secretary of Fishermen's Energy, and Doug Copeland, regional project development manager for EDF Renewables. Paul and Doug are leading the development of the Nautilus Offshore Wind project planned for three miles out from Atlantic City. In the interview we start by covering the history of this project from its beginning several years ago as the Fishermens Energy Atlantic City Windfarm to how and why EDF Renewables came into the picture last year. We discuss the critical role of politics in offshore wind development, the importance of projects like Nautilus for growing the industry and its supply chain, and what the next steps are for the project. Recorded September 11, 2018. Published September 19, 2018.
Our guest for this episode is Joe Fiordaliso, President of the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities. It hasn’t even been a full year since Governor Phil Murphy’s administration took office, and already New Jersey has quickly vaulted to a leadership position in offshore wind. In our conversation, President Fiordaliso discusses what this year has been like for him so far and what the role of offshore wind is in helping the state meet its clean energy goals. Our conversation covers New Jersey’s strategic planning process, its approach to regionalization, ORECs and more. President Fiordaliso and I sat down for the interview on September 10. As an example of just how fast things are moving in New Jersey, just one week after our interview the BPU voted unanimously to issue a solicitation for 1,100 megawatts of offshore wind, America’s largest single-state solicitation in history. The application window is already open. Bids are due by December 28th and the Board expects to act on the applications by July 1st of next year. Recorded September 10, 2018. Welcome to the inaugural episode of Offshore Wind Insider, the new podcast from the Business Network for Offshore Wind. Our guest for this first episode is arguably the person most responsible for America’s first offshore wind farm: Jeff Grybowski, Chief Executive Officer of Deepwater Wind. In this interview we cover how Jeff first got involved in the offshore wind industry, and what the experience was like launching a new US industry with the Block Island Wind Farm. Block Island was just the first step for Deepwater Wind. We review the company’s current project portfolio, and look ahead. Jeff shares his thoughts on how he sees the industry evolving, from technology to public policy to the supply chain and cost. Recorded July 26, 2018. Published September 19, 2018.
The family. The cottage. The age difference. The pregnancy. The children. The second best bed. The grave. We know so little about Anne Hathaway, but it hasn’t stopped us from speculating about her life for the past 300 years. In this episode, we talk to Katherine Scheil, a professor of English at the University of Minnesota, about the many, many versions of Anne Hathaway. In her new book, Imagining Shakespeare's Wife: The Afterlife of Anne Hathaway, Scheil looks at how historians, biographers, and novelists have repeatedly reinterpreted and reshaped Hathaway’s image over the centuries, and why. Scheil is interviewed by Barbara Bogaev. From the Shakespeare Unlimited podcast series. Published September 18, 2018. © Folger Shakespeare Library. All rights reserved. Transportation Equity: Reengineering the Quality of Urban Life “When someone is deprived of transportation options [it affects] their ability to get an education, it affects their ability to have access to healthy food, it affects their ability to access employment centers.” - Richard Ezike, Ph.D., Noted Subject-Matter Expert on Transportation Equity Transportation access remains one of the most important issues affecting American urban life. And yet, many commuters—especially those who live in affluent suburbs and exurbs—remain woefully unaware that many of their urban counterparts are deprived access to the full array of mobility choices. Such transportation inequity means that a resident in the inner city would require a painstakingly long commute to work at a job, acquire healthcare, shop, or attend school. In this episode, Richard Ezike, Ph.D. discusses his nationally recognized thought leadership regarding the inequities inherent in the American transportation system. His career is inspired by his early childhood dreams of becoming an architect building beautiful cities, advanced scientific study, and fellowships at some of the nation’s leading policy organizations. During these key interview segments, Dr. Ezike builds a story on reengineering the quality of urban life: Relives his childhood dream of doing meaningful work as an architect building cities [starts at 4:42] Defines Transportation Equity and the benefits that it can provide access-deprived residents of urban communities [starts at 13:48] Explains the importance of promoting science, technology, engineering, arts, and math (STEAM) in education [starts at 22:15] Offers first-hand the benefits of mentoring young people from underserved groups [starts at 26:01] About our guest: As a child growing up in Kingsport, Tennessee, Richard Ezike was “fascinated by the design of buildings.” On family trips, young Richard brought along his Kodak camera to capture images of the buildings that he admired most. Dr. Ezike is a frequent events speaker and podcast guest in the areas of transportation equity, resource sustainability, social responsibility, STEAM learning, careerism, and the environment. Since the 1990s, playwright and actor Steven Berkoff has been traveling the world performing a one-actor show called "Shakespeare’s Villains." It’s fitting, coming from the actor perhaps best known for playing Beverly Hills Cop’s Victor Maitland, that Berkoff promotes the show’s examination of Iago, Shylock, Richard III, the Macbeths, and others as “A Master Class in Evil.” Now, Berkoff has made a film of his performance. With additional material from "Henry V," it’s called "Shakespeare’s Heroes and Villains." We invited Steven Berkoff in to give us his thoughts on what Shakespeare’s villains have in common and why they hold such an enduring appeal. Berkoff is interviewed by Barbara Bogaev. When high school junior, Samantha Hunter, and her father move to New Mexico, it's a chance to leave tragedy behind and start over. However, the arrival of a dark-haired stranger changes everything. Lucien introduces Sam to the prospect of enjoying life again, and to the hidden world of aliens. But crazier than that, Lucien doesn't feel entirely like a stranger. Redemption and romance follow Sam in her new life as she works to understand the alien-human romance she's developing--a romance that feels beyond her control. There's something bigger happening around her, and to her, too, and this is just the beginning.... --J. E. Nicassio packs in the action like a superhero movie-- From the Sky has all the hallmarks of a Hollywood blockbuster--ready to light up the sky like a fleet of UFOs. "A must read! It had me from the very beginning to the last word. Every page had a plot twist and turn to make my imagination run wild." --Online Book Club.org Nicassio is a freelance writer and MUFON (Mutual UFO Network) Field Investigator in Pittsburgh, PA, where she resides with her mother, two sons, and German Shepherd, Ava. She loves writing and is passionate about creating stories that entertain and comes straight from the heart. Her Children's book, Rocky (About Rockefeller Center and a tiny Christmas tree named Rocky) made the Amazon Top Ten Christmas Book List in 2016. The Amazon preview has the Prolog and the first four chapters. I'm going to read you the prolog and the first two chapters. (Read Chapters) How did I like this so far? I thought the first chapter, er, rather, the prolog, was great. It was a fast paced introduction to the main character and some unknown characters. They didn't say their names, but one of them says, "There'll be consequences, Brother." So either these first two strangers are brothers, or members of a religeous order. Anyway, it appears the Brother heals Sam. Could this be Lucien, the love interest mentioned in the Amazon blurb? If you read on in the preview, Chapter 3 is titled, Lucien. So, if you want to find out before you buy the book, you can read further than I did. I have to admit that by the end of chapter two, the pace of the story had slowed sufficiently that I wasn't really interested enough to read on at this point. I thought chapter one was good and built on what we learned from the preview. I felt like chapter 2 was mainly filler and slowed down considerably as she walks out to the bus stop. I give this a three star rating and if I had nothing else to read, I'd read a few more chapters to see if this one picked up. Part of what drags the recommendation down for me is the poorly written Amazon blurb. An Amazon blurb needs to grab you with the first sentence and drag you to the second which pushes you to the third and then shows you an emotional reason why you need to buy this book right now. This blurb starts out with telling us how great the author is. From the Sky from best-selling author J.E. Nicassio writes the kind of close encounter that will leave readers spellbound. Not only is the first line of the blurb improperly punctuated, it tells me nothing about the book--only claims that I will be spellbound, but not why. And frankly, "Best Selling" means nothing anymore. Maybe she's made some list somewhere. If I don't know the author's name and what they had written that was best selling, saying so will mean nothing. So, in conclusion. If what the blurb promises appeals to you, it could be worth reading the next two chapters on the Amazon preview, or just paying out the 99 cents it costs right now to get book one. If you like it, there's at least one more book in the series, or two it it's a trilogy. Thanks for listening and we'll see you next week.

The curses associated with the Scottish play. Using a real skull for the Yorick scene in "Hamlet." Over the centuries, these and other fascinating theatrical anecdotes have attached themselves to the plays of William Shakespeare. Many of these stories have been told and re-told, over and over, century after century – with each new generation inserting the names of new actors into the story and telling the story as if it just occurred. So “One night David Garrick was backstage” becomes, “So one night Edmund Kean was backstage” which then becomes, “So one night Richard Burton was backstage.” And so on. 1606 was a critical year for Shakespeare’s creative career. It was the year in which he wrote KING LEAR, MACBETH, and ANTONY AND CLEOPATRA. It was also a time in which the king of England, James I, faced internal political challenges that threatened to tear the nation apart. James Shapiro is our guest for this episode of Shakespeare Unlimited. His new book, THE YEAR OF LEAR, examines how the events of 1606 touched Shakespeare’s life and whether they are reflected in his work. James Shapiro is a Professor of English and Comparative Literature at Columbia University. THE YEAR OF LEAR: SHAKESPEARE IN 1606, will be published October 6, 2015, by Simon & Schuster. Manga review for Mar Volume 15 by Nobuyuki Anzai. Translated by Kaori Inoue and adapted by Gerard Jones. Published September 2007 by Viz for $7.99 Rated "T" for Teens. Originally published in Japan by Shogakukan in 2003. The War Games are over after Team Mar defeated the last Chess Pieces but there is unfinished business still left. Princess Diana kidnapped Snow and is holding her at Lestava Castle. And just because they defeated the Chess Pieces doesn't mean Phantom and the other surviving members are just going to lay down and play dead for Ginta and his pals when they enter the castle. Dorothy still has some unfinished business as well. Even though Diana is her sister, she has sworn to kill her because of all the evil she has done. But Diana's plans extend not only to Mar Heaven but to our world as well. Yeah, that's right, she wants to conquer Earth as well. And what about the KING of the Chess Pieces? Wait till you get a load of him! Will Ginta and the others be able to defeat the King and Queen and will Ginta be able to return to his own world after it's all over? You'll have to read this last volume of Mar to find out. The amazing thing about Mar is that it has been able to keep my attention for 15 volumes without boring me. The wispy plot of the series reduces every moral choice to a battle of the most physical kind. If someone is evil, you fight them, not with words or kind deeds, but by beating the crap out of them until they are either dead or unable to fight. In a series of this type might always makes right, and we're just lucky that the good guys (and girls) seem to be stronger most of the time. That's not to say that there were no moments of reasoning or rational dialogue between combatants or appeals to the better side of humanity. These did occur but only in the midst of beating the snot out of each other. I really liked these characters and their overwhelming drive to not only make themselves better but to also save their world from being destroyed. The artwork by Nobuyuki Anzai was excellent throughout the series but it would be cool to see him team up with a great manga writer to produce something with a bit more complexity and less pummelling. I'm gonna miss this series. My Grade: B+
