This week our very special guest is John Lloyd, much admir'd comedy producer and writer, whose credits range from The News Quiz and Quote Unquote on the radio, to Not The Nine O'Clock News, Blackadder, Spitting Image and much much more. At the height of his career he could boast of more BAFTAs than Dame Judi Dench yet so much success took its toll and John freely admits to having suffered a form of mid-life crisis in his forties. Having spent most of the nineties directing highly-acclaimed commercials (such as the Barclaycard series with Rowan Atkinson, later reimagined as Johnny English), John bounced back to mainstream television light entertainment with a show originally conceived as 'The Homework Helper' but which hit our screens in 2003 as QI, hosted by Stephen Fry. John talks about his career and the few brief occasions he worked with Spike Milligan, plus the time he had a crush on Anna Ford, The Spitting Image Golden Brain hunt, writing Dr Snuggles with Douglas Adams, the problems with Blackadder, Mel Smith on Not the Nine O'Clock News, working with Genesis, an early collaboration with Barry Cryer and more!
This week the guys welcome back series regular John Bentley to talk all things Magic, Suns, Haliburton, Luka, LeBron, the Nuggets, Raptors and more! They also play Quote Unquote, Adjust the Rotation, and answer some burning NBA questions in The Curiosity Corner. https://linktr.ee/yaybasketball for ALL things YB!
Liz Wheeler joins Stigall to discuss her important new book on the history of public school, and the Marxist evolution that's coming for our school aged kids. Her new book available now "Hide Your Children: Exposing the Marxists Behind the Attack on America's Kids." Then, another great conversation with the unapologetic truth bomb-thrower at Brietbart - John Nolte has the most fascinating concept for a new novel we've heard in a while. Listen to his concept for the new novel "Borrowed Time," then he and Stigall have a sort of philosophical discussion about the future of the country. -For more info visit the official website: https://chrisstigall.comInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/chrisstigallshow/Twitter: https://twitter.com/ChrisStigallFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/chris.stigall/Listen on Spotify: https://tinyurl.com/StigallPodListen on Apple Podcasts: https://bit.ly/StigallShowSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
The fevered pitch of mainstream media coupled with the almost pop-culture celebration of the Trump mugshot might cause some to miss why this is so terribly serious and dangerous for the country. Stigall unpacks the legal specifics with Margot Cleaveland of the Federalist and former Trump White House Deputy Press Secretary Hogan Gidley. Plus, the ratings are in for Fox's first Republican debate and Stigall sees a real trend in the data. And the DOJ is now targeting Elon Musk. -For more info visit the official website: https://chrisstigall.comInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/chrisstigallshow/Twitter: https://twitter.com/ChrisStigallFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/chris.stigall/Listen on Spotify: https://tinyurl.com/StigallPodListen on Apple Podcasts: https://bit.ly/StigallShow See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Bad Operation played their first show ever in October 2021. It was packed, with an enthusiastic crowd. But a lot led up to this moment. The band formed in 2019 as a side project for the members, with the intention of them playing a single show. That show, scheduled for March 12 2020 never happened thanks to the pandemic. As much as that sucked, they did suddenly have a ton of time to record music. In Dec 2020, they released their excellent debut album and blew many minds!Today we bring on two members of Bad Operation: Greg Rodrigue and D-Ray. Though Bad Operation is a new group, the members have an interesting and expansive history with ska, like their time in the mid-2000s New Orleans ska scene with bands like Fatter Than Albert, Samurai Deli and Angry Banana. We also talk about Greg and D-Ray's label, Community Records, their ongoing festival Block Party, the iconic NOLA venue Big Top, and Greg's spot Hey Cafe.We also break down several samples on their debut record that includes The Impossibles, Mike Park, Blue Meanies, The Specials, Sublime and Jackie Mittoo. We talk about how Jeff Rosenstock's label Quote Unquote and Mike Park's label Asian Man inspired Community Records. Plus we discuss the new Bad Time Records Wavebreaker release with songs by Bad Operation and Mighty Mighty Bosstones bassist Joe Gittleman. Here's a link if you want to hear the playlist for "Sell Out," Greg's ska cover band mentioned during the show. Support the show

This year is the 40th birthday of the TV show that changed Tony's life. Since playing Baldrick in Blackadder, he's still routinely asked in the street if he'd like a turnip. Blackadder was first broadcast on 15th June 1983, so today Tony has decided to test himself to see if he can find out something that he didn't already know about the series, with John Lloyd, who was the producer of Blackadder. John went on to create Have I got News for You and QI but, like Tony, it all started with the Adder. Hosted by Tony Robinson Twitter @Tony_Robinson / Instagram @sirtonyrobinson With John Lloyd CBE Creator, producer and comedy writer. John's television work includes Not the Nine O'clock News, Spitting Image, all four Blackadder series and most recently QI. Whilst at the BBC he produced and created The News Quiz, To the Manor Born and Quote…Unquote. He also co-wrote episodes of the radio series of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy with Douglas Adams. On this episode I'm speaking with the indie rock performer Raavi Sita, a recent addition to the NYC scene by way of Boston who's been making waves in the five boroughs through their “emo lounge” instrumentation and their reminiscent songwriting prowess that navigates the minutiae of human connection. It's those various qualities of Raavi's sound that's quickly drawn me as a fan and appreciator of their craft, but as I learned over the course of this interview, there's much more beneath the surface — specifically we discussed their approach to revisiting their old tracks (most recently in the form of their redux of their 2018 song “All Over Again”), and how re-examining their own music gels with Raavi's own artistic philosophy that very much embraces the QUOTE-UNQUOTE “death of the author.” Alongside Raavi in the studio is collaborator and producer Justin Termotto, who lent some excellent additional context to the project's selected discography. And as is tradition in the BOPS studio, both Raavi and Justin were kind enough to perform a few tracks, both old and new, for our enjoyment — take a listen. Wherever you listen to podcasts: https://linktr.ee/gabbagabbahuhFor this week's episode, I drove down to Rock Hill, SC to talk to Gregory Ellis, currently of Motel Glory. We sat outside, as it was such a nice day (get ready for some bird calls and a little bit of traffic), and talked about our old days playing punk rock in the early nineties, K-Tel compilations, The Sweaty Monkey Goes Fishing Festival, the early days of MTV, the Rock Hill scene past and present, his days in Salvo Rain, his recent solo recordings, and so much more. This one is filled with some really good conversation and some even better music! Join me and Ty Shae (they/them) as we introduce you to Unstable and vent our frustrations surrounding “wellness”. Together we wonder how to balance reality and personal well being, how to grapple with guilt from taking care (or not taking care) of yourself, and talk about what being “well” really means for them. We don't have answers (sorry!), but we do have fun! CW: This podcast discusses topics related to mental health that may be triggering. Please take care while listening. On Episode 58, Pete is thrilled to speak with friend, former colleague, and comedy writer and actor with The Groundlings, Michael Aspinwall. Mike and Pete talk about Mike's formative years involving comedy, his inspirations, his days with The Groundlings, what he looks for in good comedy writing, his incredible run on WWE as Dr. Shelby, and some of his own writing and writing process. Michael Aspinwall was inspired to move to Los Angeles and become an actor after a very successful performance in a Paris Gibson Middle School play entitled Tied to the Tracks in his home town of Great Falls, Montana. Many of his mom's friends said he was good, and Michael took them seriously. He went on to high school where he really fell in love with theatre, which further solidified his desire to act, direct, and write professionally, while simultaneously solidifying his social position in the caste system that is high school. Michael attended UCLA's School of Theatre, Film, and Television, and while there, he studied performance primarily, in John Hall's Musical Theatre Workshop. He appeared in John's productions of Andrew Lippa's The Wild Party and West Side Story (not by Andrew Lippa). He was the 2004 recipient of the Carol Burnett Award for Outstanding Male Performer. In 2005, Michael earned his Master's degree from UCLA's TFT under the guidance of Dr. Pat Harter. He created a program that paralleled the California Arts Bridge program, using theatre and art to help younger students access the core curricula. After college, Michael began his career as an actor by waiting tables at the Bubba Gump Shrimp Company, where he performed Forrest Gump themed trivia nightly, and acted as though he cared about whether the temperature of the guests' fare was to their liking. He worked a slew of odd jobs, became a certified yoga teacher and a credentialed high school English teacher, and eventually found his home as an actor at The Groundlings' Theater in Hollywood. Michael found The Groundlings at a moment when the LA audition process was taking its toll. That place and the people in it breathed life back into a ten-year-old kid who used to stay up to watch SNL, then perform Mike Myers's bits in front of his fourth grade class. At The Groundlings, Michael met his sketch group, Big Boss Comedy, and a slew of other mind-blowingly talented people he gets to call his friends. Since his turn in the Groundling's Sunday Company, Michael continues to write and produce original work with his writing partner and fellow Sunday Company Alum, Patric Cagle. He has toured Southern California with Kevin Broberg's Quote/Unquote show, was a featured performer at Chicago Sketch Fest 2014 with Big Boss Comedy, and he appeared on television as WWE's anger management specialist, Dr. Shelby.
