In this episode Jayda asks what self-love means to Rachel and hears how for her true self-love begins with knowing yourself and when to step off the “life escalator” to reclaim your authenticity. Rachel explains the courage muscle and why you have to train it to embrace your own values, including her own personal choice to remain childfree, as well as why she doesn't want that to be radical. Jayda also asks Rachel about her amazing foundation and why Rachel advocates and fundraises to make therapy more accessible to black women and girls, but why at the same time as providing free therapy to them she also campaigns to support more black therapists to be able to train. Rachel gives insight into why she thinks it's important to work with Black therapists if you are black, as well as her astute reasoning for why it's more cost-effective! Jayda also heard Rachel's advice for loving with grief and the power of reimagining in life, especially for Black people. Our guest, Rachel Elizabeth Seed, is a DIRECTOR/PRODUCERoriginally from London, and is a Los Angeles and Brooklyn-based nonfiction storyteller working in film, photography and writing. Join us as Rachel talks about her feature documentary Photographic Memory. She says this about the film ... "After a decade+ of shooting, editing, and producing, my debut feature documentary A PHOTOGRAPHIC MEMORY, was launched this month at the True/False Film Festival in Columbia, Missouri to standing ovations and with RogerEbert.com calling it one of the best docs they've seen this year! A PHOTOGRAPHIC MEMORY is an intimate, genre-bending portrait of my attempt to piece together a portrait of my mother, Sheila Turner Seed, an avant-garde journalist I never knew. Uncovering the vast archive she produced, including lost interviews with photographers Henri Cartier-Bresson, Gordon Parks, Cecil Beaton, Lisette Model, and others, the film explores memory, legacy, and stories left untold. It feels amazing to finally share this passion project with the world and to see people connecting with it in meaningful ways. One of my favorite parts of the weekend was witnessing audience members see new possibilities for connecting with departed loved ones, as I do myself in the film." Rachel Elizabeth never envisioned a sober life for herself. She began using substances early on in her life and she knew it was a problem. Rachel had many attempts at sobriety along the way. She struggled to listen to the suggestions and go all in on sobriety and after another relapse, something happened during a bender at motel six. Rachel gives back to the sober community in so many ways and it helps keep her sobriety going. Rachel has been sober since April 6, 2018, and this is her story. Rachel was just 6 years old when the abuse started. This is the first time Rachel Elizabeth Lee has broken her silence and talked publicly about her story of child sexual abuse, ped-ophilia, and rape that she endured as a young child. Not only did she survive the horrors forced upon her, but her case actually made it to court with the support of her family. Her father actually beat up one of her abusers and made the whole family watch while he did it - not to say we are advocating for violence, but I think we can all agree more parents need to step up and defend children - theirs and all children. Many times on this podcast parents are complicit in the crimes against their children - it's wonderful to also hear the alternative and I hope it encourages other parents to hear how important it is to validate your children when/if you discover they have been sexually, emotionally, or physically violated. I met Rachel on Telegram where she has created a community channel of survivors and survivor activists alike who come together over the eloquent and vulnerable pieces of story-telling Rachel writes about her personal experiences and shares publicly for her community to read and converse about. The beautiful thing about what Rachel has created within this community is an open forum for other survivors to feel safe sharing their experiences and for activists to have a safe space to learn and ask questions. I knew right away how important her voice is and was so grateful she agreed to tell her story in full for the first time - her words will break your heart and inspire you at the same time. I admire Rachel for using her voice and bringing people together through her genuine authenticity and encourage everyone listening today to click and join her Telegram pages linked below and support her content while having a safe space to share and discover more on this topic. Listening to survivors tell their stories for the first time is an HONOR. Please give Rachel your full attention as you listen to her story and really take in what she is sharing. Share her story and words with others. It's more important than ever we have these hard conversations and remind others (and ourselves) that they/we aren't alone. I admire Rachel so much for her courage to share and know you'll take as much from this ground-breaking conversation being heard and spoken for the first time as I did. The Jill Monaco Show: Conversations that inspire you to love well
In this episode, Monika interviews Rachel Elizabeth Murray, a celebrity fitness personality, certified trainer and nutrition coach, speaker, author, professional sports model, and actor. She teaches people to live by the motto that fitness is more than just physical. She shares that through her brand. She's here to help people get confidence back, reach for their potential, and live fitter, healthier, more awake lives. Monika asks Rachel Elizabeth to rediscover her journey to wake up from the trauma of rape, to a rebirth of faith and purpose. Monika and Rachel Elizabeth explore the steps taken, from running to escape her pain, to fitness training, starting a fitness lifestyle center, and leading others to heal. Rachel Elizabeth encourages all to dream bigger, and live healthy, fit lives, to get to the next level of their dream. Key Takeaways: [2:03] The only way Rachel Elizabeth could find to get out of her pain has been a combination of faith and fitness. Her relationship with God helped her heal from the inside out. [2:29] Monika observes that after traumas we would have never wished to go through, once on the other side of them, we start to awaken to who we are, what we're here for, or how we're meant to be. [3:20] Rachel Elizabeth talks about being sheltered early in life, and then being violently traumatized by rape. She attributes surviving the trauma to her faith in something larger than herself -- for her, it’s God. [7:22] Rachel Elizabeth started running for the immediate gratification of endorphins, to release her emotional pain. [8:23] Rachel Elizabeth speaks on how a friend introduced her to fitness training. [9:20] Monika notes that running gave Rachel Elizabeth an activity she could control, with a predictable outcome -- an important factor when she felt out of control. [10:10] Rachel Elizabeth recognizes that even though she got into the fitness industry to help people, she was not aware to what she needed personally in order to go forward, until recently. [10:38] Monika asks Rachel Elizabeth to tell what she needed to see, hear, or become aware of, for her to wake up. [10:50] Rachel Elizabeth recounts her own journey to discover God’s personal involvement in her life and business. [17:56] Rachel Elizabeth speaks on how she was led to rename her business Cause Fitness, and wake up to her purpose. [22:13] Monika cites Tribal Leadership by Dave Logan, saying, sometimes we need a never-ending timeline to allow the milestones to reveal themselves. Mentioned in This Episode: Tribal Leadership: Leveraging Natural Groups to Build a Thriving Organization, by Dave Logan, John King, and Halee Fischer-Wright Causefitness.com
The American DayDream is brought to you by: www.hustlesmarterbootcamp.com/earlyaccess “Confidence is like a muscle. The more you use it, the stronger it gets.” My interview with long-time friend, Rachel Elizabeth, is the perfect way to wrap up our month of being Confidently YOU. I have known Rachel nearly her entire 20s and watched her walk through the process to become the humble woman of God she is now. She is an absolute LIGHT everywhere she goes. She brims with confidence- and humility. But it wasn’t always this way. She tried to do it all on her own for a long time. She tried to muscle-out her success by striving to achieve and be the best. It wasn’t until she had a “wake up call” that she committed her life to growth…to walk with faith and boldness. She recognized that nothing and nobody would take her further than her Holy Counselor…God is limitless. Take the time to listen to her beautiful message and journey as she shares how her definition of success has shifted and has allowed her to embrace TRUE freedom for her life.
