Diane made a life-changing decision—she was done with suburban living and yearned to return to the energy of the city. She initially considered condos and co-ops in New York City, where her three adult children lived, but quickly realized the Big Apple was out of her financial reach. Declaring that she had “broken up with New York City,” Diane expanded her search to cities within a two-hour train ride of New York. Her journey led her to Philadelphia, where she found herself drawn to the charm of Old City—a neighborhood renowned for its rich history, vibrant arts scene, and affordable living. Diane purchased a one-bedroom condo in a renovated factory building for $306,000. To hear more about why Diane fell in love with the City of Brotherly Love, tune in to Episode 206 of Retire There with Gil & Gene. On September 10, 2024, in Philadelphia Pennsylvania, Attorney Alex Van Dyke, of famed legal firm, Kline & Specter, along with 67 million viewers tuned in to watch the Presidential debate between Vice President, Kamala Harris, and Donald Trump. What transpired that evening, would once again put the former Central Park Five, now known as the Exonerated Five, back in the spotlight. That night at the podium, Donald Trump relayed false information, stating that the Exonerated Five plead guilty to the assault and rape of the jogger and that she, in-fact, died of her injuries. Neither of these statements are true. In 1989, these five men, then teenagers, were arrested for the rape and assault of that woman. All five pled not guilty, yet were sentenced to years in prison. The victim of this infamous attack suffered horrific injuries, but she did survive. In 2002, with more conclusive DNA evidence, and a confession from the actual rapist, these five men were exonerated and their charges vacated. Fast forward 35 years, and the Exonerated Five have filed a defamation lawsuit against Donald Trump. Listen in as we open this episode with a preamble from Attorney Bill Newman and then, Attorney Alex Van Dyke, from the Exonerated Fives' legal team, joins us for a first look at this new civil lawsuit against Donald Trump.

Unfortunately it's been increasingly difficult to get everyone together so for now we're going to release less frequently to make sure we can tell this story with the attention from us that it deserves.   Regular listeners will know that our original intention was to continue Kyle's story with our ongoing characters for Season 3. Following several years working in heavy industry, Steve Ebner's love affair with wood began in 1981 when he started working as a carpenter in Philadelphia. After twelve years of carpentry experience, he started his own furniture shop which would lead to the creation of Manayunk Timber, Inc., the premier urban sawmill in Philadelphia.  Manayunk Timber processes lumber reclaimed from Philadelphia industrial-era factories built from the 1880s through the 1920s and local trees that are no longer viable, due to disease, storms, or construction. Beginning in 1985, Steve began purchasing 300- to 500-year-old timbers from the demolition sites of the old factories. In the 1990s, Manayunk Timber became the only Philadelphia sawmill to capture local trees instead of sending them to landfills.  With a decreasing supply of reclaimed timber from old factories, Steve believes the future lies in the inexhaustible supply of local trees. To be processed into lumber and wood products, the local trees are sawed, stacked, and then dried (a year for every one-inch thickness). Customers can choose between a huge inventory of seasoned (by air-drying) walnut, cherry, oak, cedar, locust, osage orange, and sassafras, or reclaimed beams and joists with aged, deep patinas. Steve's commitment to educating Philadelphia about the beauty and utility of wood goes beyond sawing lumber. Recently, he and his team planted a 3,000-square-foot forest of native trees and bushes, designed to mirror a Pennsylvania forest, in what was previously a parking lot on the lumber yard's premises. Steve hopes that visitors to Manayunk Timber will make connections between the importance of preserving native trees and the furniture and building materials that enrich our everyday life. Steve is legendary in the wood business for his vast knowledge of reclaimed and native timbers. In the last six years, he has been joined by his daughter, Rebecca, in operating Manayunk Timber. Together, they have gained national attention with a video on urban sawmilling. Now, Rebecca is putting her own stamp on Manayunk Timber's future vision in support of sustainability. Rebecca Ebner is the manager of Manayunk Timber. Bringing several years of experience working in organic vegetable and animal farms and organizations focused on expanding access to healthy foods in Philadelphia, she joined Manayunk Timber in 2015. Over the past six years, Rebecca has learned every aspect of the business, from milling and sawing lumber to furniture construction. In her current role as manager, she is responsible for activities such as coordinating customer service, generating social media content, managing the showroom, and assisting in overseeing the yard and with material acquisitions. Rebecca graduated from Barnard College in 2012 with a BA in Urban Studies and Environmental Science. She brings a passion for urban sustainability and community engagement, a commitment to Philadelphia, and involvement in creative and artistic projects to her work with Manayunk Timber. Moving forward, Rebecca's focus is the future of the company; she hopes to continue Steve's dreams and make Manayunk Timber a sustainable part of Philadelphia's small-business community for years to come.  --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/plantatrilliontrees/message Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/plantatrilliontrees/support

You do not want to miss a second of this episode; it was quite interesting and revealing. Today on The Neoliberal Round Podcast we present another “Street Vibes: Pulse of the Street” where we stumbled on an amazing group called the “Ausar Auset Society” followers and teachers of Kamitic Spirituality and Culture. The interviews were quite revealing and we also learned about Bamba Ra aka Sha'Heed Muhammad who recently died and is being celebrated as an iconic black revolutionary from Philadelphia who graduated from Howard University and was involved in the Student Non-violent Action Coordinating Committee (SNCC), The Revolutionary Action Movement and the Nation of Islam; and was a frequent contributor to the Journal of Black Poetry. Importantly I raise a concern at the beginning of the episode as a preface saying that I do a compulsory course at Georgetown University as part of the Doctoral Studies Program in Liberal Studies where we are expected to do a course called DLS Foundations 1, 2, 3 and 4: where we look at the foundational history of civilization especially that of the West and to an extent the East. These studies, particularly Foundation 1, looks at our foundation by studying Mesopotamia, Greece, Rome and Europe, with a few reference made to Eastern China, Russia or India. But nowhere do we look at Egyptian/African history and ideologies and how they also form part of the understanding and development of our civilizations. I explore in brief before revealing the interview as a backdrop and as a concern that I must continue to bring before the academics at Georgetown and those running the DLS program. I then delve into the interviews largely with High Priest Shekhem Ma'a Kheru Men Metu who unveils the concept, practice, culture and spirituality of Kamit and the Ausar Auset Society's role in re-popularizing, teaching and facilitating this traditional and historical culture and spirituality that has been somewhat incorporated in today but without its totality and wholeness. We also interviewed Priest Rameneikhi about the society's impact and reach and touched on Bamba Ra. We connected with others on the ground and listened to the youngsters as they were practicing their drumming which oils be heard throughout the Interviews with the High Priests or Shkhems. The Ausar Society is International with chapters all over the world. This interview was conducted at the Pennsylvania Chapter located at 6008 Germantown Avenue in Philadelphia Pennsylvania 19144. The Society can be reached at 215-843-0900. Visit their website at www.ausarausetpa.com. They have RA Qi Gong classes and opportunities for learning about Kamitic Spirituality Sunday at 5:00pm where they teach Introduction to Kamitic Spirituality. There's also Introduction to Kamitic Meditation on Fridays at 7:00pm and all their sessions are in-person or virtually. Thank you for listening to The Neoliberal Round Podcast. Den  Muttersprache Podcast findest du u.a hier und ich freue mich sehrüber eine 5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Review von Dir:Apple: shorturl.at/asEJ2Spotify:  shorturl.at/erEGXYoutube: shorturl.at/fBHY2Google: shorturl.at/istBMAmazon Music: shorturl.at/efBNWWebsite: https://www.muttersprachepodcast.com/Podcast
