Joburg, we got a letter from Rechelle: ''Dear Anele and the Club, Today I am writing this to you with so much faith that it would reach your team. One of my closest friends Jermaine Naidoo (M), 36 years old was diagnosed with Cerebellar ataxia 4 years ago and was medically boarded off from work, a very rare disease with unfortunately no cure, and unlike many other dreaded diseases this isn’t a disease that has a high mortality rate, but instead drastically impacts ones quality of life in terms of walking, movement and speech basically causing them to be almost like a vegetable. This disease is hereditary, and Jermaine’s dad was also diagnosed many years ago and was medically boarded off from work too. Jermaine’s mom works 2 days a week and his sister is the only one with a stable average income however she is a single mom to a 3 year old. Jermaine has always been the clown of the friend group, the one making us all laugh and honestly the one friend who would do anything to help anyone, and it has broken my heart to see how much this disease has taken from him, his confidence, his jovial spirit and his faith. Today I am asking if the city can help me make Jermaine and his dads life a little easier by renovating their 2 bathrooms to be more disabled friendly, also the main entrance of their home has stairs which ideally would need to be a ramp. I know this a long shot, but I know I had to try." See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

On this week's episode of The Rural Woman Podcast™, you'll meet Rechelle Day.Farming has always been near and dear to Rechelle, as her mother and father's families have been farming for decades, and the spectrum has been broad (strawberries, potatoes, watermelons, alfalfa, corn, wheat, peaches, cherries, apples, pears, and the list goes on). While experimenting with her own yard, Rechelle would reminisce about the memories she shared in the garden with her mother and Grandma, Kahler, and her interest in how different flowers grew. As each season passed, Rechelle's little garden squeezed in between Christmas Trees and became larger and larger, she soon became interested in all the different plants, and her free time (although small) was filled with learning more about the various flowers she could grow. Each season she would try to grow something new, sharing her harvest with friends and family. When COVID-19 flipped their worlds upside down, Rechelle found the greatest peace in her garden, pulling weeds and cultivating beauty through flowers. It was at that moment she decided she needed to share this beauty and happiness with others, and thus Freckled Bloom Flower Farm was born! For full show notes, including links mentioned in the show, head over to wildrosefarmer.com/183 . . .DISCUSSIONS THIS WEEK:[06:14] The Benefits of Supporting Flower Farming[16:40 ] The Value of Collaborating with Local Businesses within the Community[20:40] Trying to Find a Work-Life Balance to Avoid Failure [25:40] The Rewards and Challenges of Starting a Flower Farm[36:15] The Most Rewarding Part of Being a Rural Woman for Rechelle. . .This week's episode is brought to you by Advancing Women Conference . . .Let's get SocialFollow The Rural Woman Podcast on Social MediaInstagram | FacebookSign up to get email updatesJoin our private Facebook group, The Rural Woman Podcast Community Connect with Katelyn on Instagram | Facebook | Twitter | Pinterest. . .Support the ShowPatreon | Merch | PayPal | Become a Show SponsorShop our Show SponsorsLeave a Review on

Episode #439: Breaking the Mold-Rechelle Balanzat's Innovative Approach to Scaling JULIETTE

HALO Talks

Play Episode Listen Later Sep 7, 2023 25:30

Rechelle Balanzat, an extremely determined, driven, and resilient entrepreneur, has overcome the rather large challenges of breaking into the highly competitive dry cleaning market with her company, JULIETTE.  With her immense success in this competitive space, Rechelle now helms three different brands and 6 locations in NYC. New York has been her home for over 20 years, enabling her to understand the city's unique mentality and lifestyle. Her expertise with the fast-paced demands of New Yorkers (who expect everything to be done "yesterday!") extends to providing them with efficient and timely cleaning services. Balanzat has literally worked in dry cleaners herself, learned the business from the ground up, and has created a brand poised to conquer new markets (when the time is right.) She emphasizes the importance of creating a strong company culture, finding the right people who align with what your company stands for as well as the values and the needs of your customers. Rechelle's customer-centric focus and leading with integrity has allowed her to build a workforce that truly embodies her brand's high-touch model.  On the challenges of building a business she states, "Fundraising was a wonderful learning lesson. I say that because it was filled with surprises. It was filled with decisions and outcomes that I was not expecting nor that I wanted. But it forced me to look at other ways to make money. It forced me to think outside of the box when I launched in 2014, and I was immediately successful. I was cash flow positive and prototype built! Then it was, 'let's go raise!' but I could not split my time between actively fundraising and trying to build the business. I had to focus on building to profitability as soon as possible."  Some key moments:  Entrepreneurs should strongly consider focusing on building their brand locally first.  Pete's gas station encounter with a Top Golf Culinary Team Manager.  Client relations matter, creating a motivated culture. Sexy NYC brand that caters to high performers. JULIETTE is a brand that stands alone in the dry cleaning space.  Price list is not the primary decision factor. The whole experience matters. Success is defined by personal decisions and opportunities. A few key takeaways:  Rechelle emphasizes the importance of understanding the needs and demands of customers, especially in a highly competitive area like NYC. She saw an opportunity to disrupt the fragmented and antiquated market by providing a more modern, high tech, and customer-centric approach. Unlike previous dry cleaning businesses that focused on scalability and centralization, Rechelle's company takes a more personalized approach. She focuses on providing high-touch, high-quality care for garments and ensuring customers receive their items back in the time promised. Hiring and training the right type of people is a significant challenge for any business. Rechelle prioritizes creating a culture centered around consumer satisfaction, leading with integrity, and finding employees who embody care and attention to detail. There's no "fun" in fundraising! Rechelle's business is totally self-funded and, while VC's are definitely paying attention now, one of her goals is to shed further light on the inequities that exist for women and minorities in the fundraising world.  Click here to download transcript.  Resources:  Rechelle Balanzat: https://www.linkedin.com/in/irechelle/ Juliette: https://www.juliette.nyc/  Connect With Us:  Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/thehaloadvisors/?hl=en  Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/Integritysquare  YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@halotalks  Twitter: https://twitter.com/thehaloadvisors  LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/company/integrity-square/  Website: https://www.halotalks.com  Loved this episode? The beauty of doing the podcast is getting to meet people like Rechelle Conde-Nau.  She is a fellow podcaster, mom, blogger, and a coach, who wants to encourage other midlife women to stop waiting for good things to happen and hop in the driver's seat to find their passion and purpose.  After Rechelle and her husband lost a child, the events to follow would lead her life on an unexpected and welcomed path, but once she hit midlife, Rechelle started to get the itch to share her life learnings and help other women break free from fear to become who they already are.  Rechelle and I agree on many things.  Some of the topics we discuss: - There is room at the table for all women, and all boats rise with the tide.  Rechelle and I both have podcasts for midlife women, but that doesn't stop us from sharing ideas and tips and cheering each other on.  - You don't need confidence to get started, but you may need a little courage.  The confidence comes later with some success under your belt.- Don't wait to get started until you are ready.  If you wait, you may never do "the thing".  Check out Rechelle's podcast Unabashed You and her lovely, heartfelt blog on her website. You can find Rechelle Conde-Nau at:https://www.instagram.com/unabashedyou/https://unabashedyou.com/https://www.facebook.com/unabashedyouThis is the first episode of year two of the Asking for a Friend Podcast.  Thank you for listening, for the reviews, and the shares.  I couldn't do this without you, and of course, our editor Kelly.  Follow Asking for a Friend on Social media outlets:https://www.instagram.com/askingforafriend_pod/https://www.facebook.com/askforafriendpod/Please provide a review and share. This is the first time I officially met Rechelle Balanzat, which is rare for my podcast guests. But prior to our interview, I did my homework and was completely FASCINATED by what she does and how she's reinventing and reviving a somewhat tried-and-true experience (laundry and dry cleaning) with technology. Rechelle founded JULIETTE, a full-service laundry company that picks up, cleans and delivers clothes with a click of a button in the heart of New York City. JULIETTE clearly sits at the intersection of fashion, lifestyle, and technology and in just a few short years, it's already a leading innovator within the industry.I did my homework on Rechelle… and something that really resonated with me about her story was the fact that she is an Asian immigrant woman who built JULIETTE with zero funding. Rechelle wrote in an email to me and my podcast producer: “In 2020, VC's invested $428M into US-based startups each day. That's $156.2B in one year. 2.3% of that went to women. 0.2% went to women of color.”Only .2% of US venture capital went to women of color… Clearly, the numbers were against her.Listen as she answers how she made it work with the odds stacked against her and how she revolutionized an industry without any investors. We break down how she went from knowing nothing about running and owning a laundry service to building a company rooted in new technology while simultaneously working her 9-5.

Rechelle is eager to get the conversation started. She has a heart for encouraging people (and herself!) to be authentic and transparent. It's only through daring to be vulnerable that we can begin to be our best selves. Unabashed You was born from passion and life experience. And this quote by Anais Nin sure did spur her on. "And the day came when the risk it took to remain tight in a bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom." This kind of courage inspired her to step out and have exchanges with others who get to show up as themselves. Fully. Learn More: https://unabashedyou.com/

What do the businesses of aesthetics and portrait photography have in common?  You might be surprised.  In fact, many of the most valuable business insights I have gained through the years, have come from outside the portrait industry and that's exactly why I think you are going to love today's guest.  Rechelle Trejo is the owner of Auri Aesthetics in Gilbert, Arizona. Rechelle is a registered nurse by education and since 2003 has become one of the most in demand aestheticians in our area as well as a highly sought after trainer of aestheticians worldwide.  Rechelle founded Auri Aesthetics in 2020 to create an innovative space where non-surgical treatments are prioritized. Her passion in this field is working with individual patients to create customized plans so they can achieve their aesthetic dreams in a natural and beautiful way. What shines through in this conversation with Rechelle is her confidence and pride in what she does. Rechelle is the expert and through a detailed consultation process, she is able to guide clients and patients in getting the most beautiful results. Often the results are beyond what patients even thought possible.  When it comes to your photography business, the same is true. You are the trusted advisor and you can create absolutely beautiful results that your client might never have thought fathomable. With Rechelle's guidance, you can learn how to leverage your expertise with client expectations and build the expert reputation you deserve.   In this episode, you'll learn how to: Develop a consultation process that guides your clients to find exactly what they want and need. Solve problems and answer questions before your client even asks. Create a comfortable and trusting relationship between yourself and your clients. Use specific information to drive decision making in your business and with each individual client. Build your reputation through confidence and expertise.   Here's a glance at this episode: [2:17] - Welcome to the show, Rechelle! Rechelle shares her background and what led her to aesthetics. [9:45] - We all want to feel good about how we look. [10:48] - Rechelle admits that she is not the cheapest and it was not a difficult decision to price her services. How does she find patients? [12:50] - Allison describes her experience with Auri Aesthetics. [15:03] - In Allison's experience, Rechelle brought up concerns and answered questions before they were even asked. [16:10] - It is important to be honest and up front about things that could happen and offer a solution and plan for each one. [18:03] - Rechelle describes how she launched this business and used specific information to drive decision making. [19:59] - When it comes to leading a team, acknowledge that you don't know everything. [20:40] - A consultation is a crucial piece to Rechelle's business and she avoids being too overwhelming. [22:01] - The consultation is important in creating a step by step plan. [23:12] - Be the trusted advisor. Be the expert. It is okay to tell a client what they need and say no if what they are asking for is not in their best interest. [25:03] - Sometimes patients and clients want everything, but they don't need it. There is a time where they need to be told no. [28:08] - What it comes down to, is trust. [29:45] - What happens when we run into micromanagement? [32:17] - The longer you are in the business and your reputation is established, challenging clients are not as common. [34:05] - It isn't just about the time you invest in a single project that goes into your pricing. Your training and expertise increase your value. [36:40] - Rechelle shares how a photo's pose that she initially said she wouldn't like, turned out to be the most valuable photo taken.
