Emma Dalton: Emma works as a full time multi-disciplinary practitioner in Suffolk.  She trained in Homeopathy at CPH London with Robert Davidson graduating in 2003 and later did a post grad with Dr Yubraj Sharma.  She has done extensive homeopathy trainings over the years including CEASE, Evolving Sensations and Lanthanides. Emma is a Medical Herbalist with a First Class Honours degree from the University of Lincoln in 2015 and has served on the Board of the National Institute of Medical Herbalists until recently when she stood down as Vice President and Treasurer at her end of term.  She remains their Parliamentary Chair and continues to represent the Institute on political matters. Emma also offers patients Functional Medicine through her training with the IFM, Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy and other therapies helpful to homeopathy such as Flower Essences, Homeobotanicals and medical astrology.   Emma has a PGCE in CAM from the University of Huddersfield with a specialism in online learning. She teaches herbal medicine students for The Betonica School of Herbal Medicine as well as supervising and mentoring homeopaths and herbalists from many different training establishments.   She has taught many health professionals across the UK and Ireland on using CBD Oil in practice.   Rachel Welsh Rachel received her first degree in Hertfordshire in the UK (near London).  When she finished, she decided to have some time out of education and worked in London in the financial industry for three years.     In 1989, she moved with her husband to be to Hong Kong and got a job lecturing in English and Business Communication at the Open University.  Whilst in Hong Kong, she also completed a Postgraduate Diploma in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages and and a Masters Degree in Lifelong learning.   In Hong Kong, she also had two children, her eldest child was born in 1994 and suffered with ear infections and reacted badly to antibiotics.  In desperation, she attended a six week evening course in homeopathy with a homeopath who was practising in Hong Kong, but interestingly born in Tasmania, and our lives changed.  Homeopathy then became the basis of our healthcare in our family.   Rachel moved back to the UK, back to the country in Suffolk, in 1999 and settled into family life on a small holding. She continued to work in distance education online while the children were small, but 15 years ago, she decided to retrain  to be a Homeopath  and have now been qualified and practicing in Suffolk for ten years. Alongside Homeopathy, she also offers Bach Flower Therapy, Homeobotanical therapy, Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT), Kinesiology (using NAET which is an allergy elimination technique) and Presentchild® Translation. Presentchild® is a therapy that can really help to improve communication within the family unit. During lockdown, she also trained to be an end of life counsellor using the Before I Go method. She also teaches for the organisation 'Homeopathy at Wellie Level' which teaches farmers how to use homeopathy with their animals.   Rachel loves to combine her educational background with her profession now, teaching people how to use Homeopathy effectively.      Rachel and Emma have been working together for over 10 years. www.rachelwelshhealth.co.uk  rachelwelshhealth@gmail.com   If you would like to support the Homeopathy Hangout Podcast, please consider making a donation by visiting www.EugenieKruger.com and click the DONATE button at the top of the site. All state residents from new high school graduates to adults enrolling part-time will be eligible regardless of family income. The program is also open to immigrants regardless of their immigration status. Some legislators and other critics question whether there should have been income caps and whether the state, newly flush with oil and gas revenue, can secure long-term funding to support the program beyond its first year. The legislation, which seeks to treat college as a public resource similar to primary and secondary education, takes effect in July. Although nearly half the states have embraced similar initiatives that seek to cover at least some tuition expenses for some students, New Mexico's law goes further by covering tuition and fees before other scholarships and sources of financial aid are applied, enabling students to use those other funds for expenses such as lodging, food or child care. “The New Mexico program is very close to ideal,” said Michael Dannenberg, vice president of strategic initiatives and higher education policy at the nonprofit advocacy group Education Reform Now. Considering the state's income levels and available resources, he added that New Mexico's program is among the most generous in the country. Dannenberg emphasized that New Mexico is going beyond what larger, more prosperous states like Washington and Tennessee have already done. Programs in other states often limit tuition assistance to community colleges, exclude some residents because of family income or impose conditions requiring students to work part time. Source article: https://udn.com/news/story/6904/6329103 Next Article Topic: Colleges Slash Budgets in the Pandemic,With ‘Nothing Off-Limits' Ohio Wesleyan University is eliminating 18 majors. By one estimate, the pandemic has cost colleges at least $120 billion, with even Harvard University, despite its $41.9 billion endowment, reporting a $10 million deficit that has prompted belt tightening. The persistence of the economic downturn is taking a devastating financial toll, pushing many to lay off or furlough employees, delay graduate admissions and even cut or consolidate core programs like liberal arts departments. The University of South Florida announced last month that its College of Education would become a graduate school only, phasing out undergraduate education degrees to help close a $6.8 million budget gap. In Ohio, the University of Akron, citing the coronavirus, successfully invoked a clause in its collective-bargaining agreement in September to supersede tenure rules and lay off 97 unionized faculty members. “We haven't seen a budget crisis like this in a generation,” said Robert Kelchen, a Seton Hall University associate professor of higher education who has been tracking the administrative response to the pandemic. “There's nothing off-limits at this point.” Even before the pandemic, colleges and universities were grappling with a growing financial crisis, brought on by years of shrinking state support, declining enrollment, and student concerns with skyrocketing tuition and burdensome debt. Now the coronavirus has amplified the financial trouble systemwide, though elite, well-endowed colleges seem sure to weather it with far less pain. “We have been in aggressive recession management for 12 years — probably more than 12 years,” Daniel Greenstein, chancellor of the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education, told his board of governors as they voted to forge ahead with a proposal to merge a half-dozen small schools into two academic entities. Source article: https://paper.udn.com/udnpaper/POH0067/359091/web/ Next Article Topic: Remember the MOOCs? Millions of adults have signed up for online classes in the past two months, too — a jolt that could signal a renaissance for big online learning networks that had struggled for years. Coursera, in which Gupta and Davidson enrolled, added 10 million new users from mid-March to mid-May, seven times the pace of new sign-ups in the previous year. Enrollments at edX and Udacity, two smaller education sites, have jumped by similar multiples. “Crises lead to accelerations, and this is best chance ever for online learning,” said Sebastian Thrun, a co-founder and chairman of Udacity. Coursera, Udacity and edX sprang up nearly a decade ago as high-profile university experiments known as MOOCs, for massive open online courses. They were portrayed as tech-fueled insurgents destined to disrupt the antiquated ways of traditional higher education. But few people completed courses, grappling with the same challenges now facing students forced into distance learning because of the pandemic. Screen fatigue sets in, and attention strays. But the online ventures adapted through trial and error, gathering lessons that could provide a road map for school districts and universities pushed online. The instructional ingredients of success, the sites found, include short videos of six minutes or less, interspersed with interactive drills and tests; online forums where students share problems and suggestions; and online mentoring and tutoring. A few top-tier universities, such as the University of Michigan and the Georgia Institute of Technology, offer some full degree programs through the online platforms. While those academic programs are available, the online schools have tilted toward skills-focused courses that match student demand and hiring trends. The COVID-19 effect on online learning could broaden the range of popular subjects, education experts say. But so far, training for the tech economy is where the digital-learning money lies. With more of work and everyday life moving online — some of it permanently — that will probably not change. Source articles: https://paper.udn.com/udnpaper/POH0067/354879/web/

Source articles: https://paper.udn.com/udnpaper/POH0067/354879/web/ Powered by Firstory Hosting

Crystal Worl is fresh off of two big projects. A mural in downtown Anchorage and a commission for Google. The mural depicts and applies traditional Alaska Native traditions and symbols — the formline art of the Tlingit, Haida and Tsimshian, for example. It's 120-feet long, the largest thing she's ever designed. The Google skin, titled “Primary Ravens,” depicts ravens, which represent the Creator and are always playing tricks. What she likes most about these pieces is that they're public. They don't belong to just one person, they belong to the communities that they're made for. So, anyone has access to them. Both designs utilize traditional and modern techniques, something Crystal makes a point of combining in her work, and they're part of a larger idea to indigenize public spaces. Crystal says that having her murals displayed downtown is significant because that's where people come together. It's where locals hang out, do business, have dinner, and it's where visitors are often introduced to Alaska. In many ways, art helps us understand a city, the land and the history of both. She says that the art of formline can help us understand the future of Alaska. It can help us visualize and plan for the future of a state that reflects our ideals and our values. Her mentor, Haida artist Robert Davidson, taught her about the power of visualization. He told her to focus on the end goal, not the process because so many things will test your strength along the way, so it's important to be persistent. To imagine herself standing in front of the finished piece and celebrating it.

Topic: In Race for Tuition-Free College, New Mexico Stakes a Claim   As universities across the United States face steep enrollment declines, New Mexico's government is embarking on a pioneering experiment to fight that trend: tuition-free higher education for all state residents. After President Joe Biden's plan for universal free community college failed to gain traction in Congress, New Mexico, one of the nation's poorest states, has emerged with perhaps the most ambitious plans as states scramble to come up with their own initiatives. A new state law approved in a rare show of bipartisanship allocates almost 1% of the state's budget toward covering tuition and fees at public colleges and universities, community colleges and tribal colleges.

In 1884, the Canadian government banned the Haida potlatch. But Haida elders kept the knowledge of the ceremony alive until the ban was lifted. In 1969, a potlatch was held to honour the raising of the first totem pole in 80 years, carved by Robert Davidson. Sara Florence Davidson co-wrote Potlatch as Pedagogy with her father to show how Haida traditions can be brought into present-day classrooms. She joins us in our studio to talk about the process of writing the book – and tells the story of how her father came to carve that first pole at the age of 22.

Rachel and Emma have been working together for over 10 years. www.rachelwelshhealth.co.uk  rachelwelshhealth@gmail.com   Support our podcast in the following ways: * Make a once off donation from as little as AUD$5 at https://www.buymeacoffee.com/hangout  * Become a patron for as little as USD$5 per month (paid monthly - stop any time) at https://patron.podbean.com/homeopathyhangout * Visit our website for bookings or to purchase remedies: www.eugeniekruger.com

This episode features Robert Davidson a qualified accountant with a rich background that includes playing professional poker for 4 years! With his extensive experience in the industry, and having worked within the Big 4 firms,he started Appacus App Advisory with Matt Flanagan and David Robinson at BlueHub in 2019. Their aim is to help accountants and their clients bridge the gap of understanding between operational and financial systems, enabling them to have maximum control over the often overwhelming app spaces, allowing the to future-proof their practices. Robert is an advocate for cloud accounting and having planned and managed the cloud rollout for a successful national accounting firm in Scotland, its safe to say we have the one of best on this episode to shed further insight! We covered: How a cloud visionary saw what was coming for cloud accounting a few years before everyone else The parallels between professional poker players and professional accountants Is a cloud accounting specialist the best way for firms to go? The complexities accountants face in differentiating between all the different apps when advising clients The skills accountants will need going forward when it comes to apps and technology The current problems: Why accounting source systems like Quickbooks, Sage and Xero might not be the most important system for a business client The accounting app landscape for accountants and their clients is overwhelming - one vendor may offer 2000 updates a year Many accounting firms are lagging with cloud accounting because they don't fully understand the benefits Many accountants feel like they need to know 120% of everything before they give an answer The mistakes accounting firms make when doing app advisory for their clients The required skillset of an accountant is changing rapidly to incorporate the advance of technology The benefits of cloud accounting: Appacus is a community of forward-thinking firms to share best practice on apps and integrations The technology available today is making compliance much quicker and advisory more powerful for accounting firms Advisory for accountants is not management accounts and dashboards - it's the interpretation of that information For accounting clients, advisory is only value if the client can understand it and it helps them make decisions Accounting cloud apps can bring client engagement, sales processes and onboarding down from months and weeks to days Apps are simply tools to solve pain points, provide information and help people make decisions Big Takeaways: Accountants - it's better that you go to your clients with suggestions than the other way around. The worst advice about app advisory that finds its way into the accounting market We are just touching the surface with app advisory - so many more are coming out!
