The Kaz II mystery revolves around a 9.8-meter catamaran found drifting off the coast of Queensland, Australia, in April 2007, with its three-man crew—Skipper Des Batten and brothers Peter and John Tunstead—missing. The yacht was discovered in good condition with its engine running, GPS operational, and personal items untouched, but there was no sign of the men. Despite an extensive investigation, the exact circumstances of their disappearance remain unknown.Theories about what happened include a freak accident where one man fell overboard and the others were lost while trying to save him, but no definitive evidence supports any single explanation. The coroner's report concluded that the men likely died as a result of a tragic accident, but the lack of physical evidence, such as the bodies, leaves the case unresolved. The Kaz II mystery remains one of Australia's most enduring maritime enigmas, capturing the public's imagination and raising more questions than answers.Story # 2:The Sarah Joe mystery involves the disappearance of five men from Hana, Maui, who embarked on a fishing trip on February 11, 1979. Shortly after they set out, a sudden and severe storm hit the area, and the men—Scott Moorman, Benjamin Kalama, Peter Hanchett, Patrick Woesner, and Ralph Malaiakini—were never heard from again despite extensive search efforts covering thousands of square miles.Nearly a decade later, in 1988, the wreckage of the Sarah Joe was discovered on the remote Taongi Atoll in the Marshall Islands, over 2,000 miles from where the boat had vanished. A shallow grave near the wreck contained the remains of Scott Moorman, but no trace of the other men was found. The circumstances surrounding how the boat drifted such a vast distance and who buried Moorman remain unexplained, leaving this case an enduring and poignant maritime mystery that continues to haunt and intrigue.(commercial at 10:28)to contact me:bobbycapucci@protonmail.com

The ocean has affectionately been described as a giant graveyard. When boats tend to go missing, floating wreckage is looked for because its known little else is likely to be found. As a group of men set out for a fishing expedition they would run across storms that would be too much for their small ship, The Sarah Joe. As a searched was launched, they would never be found but the mystery would only deepen as they would discover, a grave was dug and the ship was in pieces. What better to close out Season Two than with an historic, super-sized episode commemorating the dear departed of 1967! Sarah & Joe take an uncharacteristically deep dive into the many notables in film, music, sports, politics, writing, art, and society who vacated the premises in the subject year, with a list of icons including Vivien Leigh, Che Guevara, Otis Redding, Spencer Tracy, Dorothy Parker, Woody Guthrie, Claude Rains, Basil Rathbone, Jayne Mansfield, the Apollo I astronauts, Rene Magritte, Jimmie Foxx, and many more! Pull up a chair and invite the neighbors over for a block party, because this is a long one, chock full of the facts and Speed references you've come to expect over IHOY's two season run!
Life may be a numbers game, but as that great American Ned Ryerson said, it's also "one big crap shoot, any-hoot." So how significant really is the fact that the 200 millionth American was born (probably) on November 20th, 1967? After an introduction by friend of the show and Visitors to Nova Scotia star Kristin Mann, Sarah & Joe dig deep into U.S. and World population, from the predictions made in '67 about where these numbers would be in 2000 and 2015, to where they might be headed in 2050, and why these guesses ended up so far off. Along the way, the hosts go into everything related to the debate, including contraception, abortion, Covid, sperm counts, obesity rates, microwave ovens, government assistance (or lack thereof) for parents and teachers, and the long soul-crushing darkness of Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Sometimes the powers that be need to know of the public's general displeasure, so we take up our signs and we march! It Happened One Year's near-miss scripted episode morphed into this Branson, Missouri recorded dissection of the great Vietnam War protest that gripped Washington D.C. and the Pentagon in October of 1967, replete with discussions of the Yippies, the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee, and how comatose inducing Mexican drug trips brought about this historic event! Was the Pentagon really levitated off the ground? Did public opinion of the war change after this march? Was the Pentagon exorcised and demystified from that day forward? Sarah & Joe getting political can be a bit unhinged, but they manage to keep it together, talking the Chicago Democratic Convention in 1968, Abbie Hoffman, Norman Mailer, Pigasus, Peter, Paul, & Mary, International Women's Day, and much more.
It's an epic throwdown for the ages as It Happened One Year wanders into one of the great debates in music history! Sarah & Joe don't exactly see eye-to-eye on these bands' particular outputs in 1967, but with The Beatles' Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band and The Rolling Stones' Their Satanic Majesties Request on the turntables, a heady, trippy time was bound to be had by all! After an introduction by friend of the show and Visitors to Nova Scotia star Shannon Hosey, the conversation ducks and weaves through favorite songs and albums from the bands, what The Who was up to in the Summer of Love, how the first text messages the hosts ever sent each other relate to this match-up, why The Doors have remained popular at all, who was the real king of Seattle grunge, and tries to answer the question - who best conquered this year of psychedelic music?
There were a ton of newcomers to the entertainment industry in 1967, and It Happened One Year is there! After an introduction by friend of the show and ReconCinemation co-host Jon Deiner, Sarah & Joe unroll the landmark TV debuts, first albums, and inaugural feature film directing efforts coming out of '67 - covering a vast spectrum of the media universe, including The Flying Nun, The Producers, Surrealistic Pillow, Dragnet, Piper at the Gates of Dawn, Who's That Knocking at My Door? and many more! Cameos abound from the likes of Gary Busey, Claude Debussy, the Peanut Butter Conspiracy, Strawberry Alarm Clock, Melvin Van Peebles, Ken Loach, and George of the Jungle, plus lots and lots of Mel Brooks talk.
In what will absolutely be the final time It Happened One Year covers the UFO sighting over Nova Scotia on October 4th, 1967, Sarah & Joe discuss the actual, known facts of the event, plus their own opinions about what this might have been. The Visitors to Nova Scotia's non-fiction percentage is guessed at, along with some random discussion of the film Women Talking and the most recent NFL season, as well as other theories and speculation that has swirled around the Shag Harbour incident in the decades since.
Surprise road episode! Recorded in lovely Santa Fe, New Mexico, Sarah & Joe decide to tackle the NCAA University Division Tournament of 1967, culminating in UCLA's defeat of Dayton for the title! After an intro by friend of the show Dane Bower, the hosts go into their picks for the current men's bracket - and how that instantly went sideways - and the women's bracket (all in on Caitlin Clark's Iowa Hawkeyes!), plus an extensive look at the Bruins dynasty circa the late '60s, featuring John Wooden, Lew Alcindor/Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, and a discussion about the best athlete performances in major motion pictures. It's another trip to Sports Corner, IHOY-heads!
What, November 3rd again? That's right, IHOY-heads! A surprise return to that landmark date in television spanning the decades of It Happened One Year! After an intro by friend of the show and The Visitors to Nova Scotia cast member Danielle Harris, Sarah & Joe take a generous look at three more shows from that fateful Friday - NBC's Accidental Family (airing directly after Star Trek), ABC's western Hondo (the only ABC show from 11/3/67 still available, apparently), and NBC's Kirk/Spock lead-in, Tarzan! Alongside the previously covered CBS offerings Wild, Wild West and Gomer Pyle U.S.M.C., a free-ranging discussion of this genre-swinging evening of entertainment commences, covering everything from Ron Ely's side-butt to the Bonanza theme redone for Rawhide to Nick taking over the bar from Martini in It's a Wonderful Life! Plus, stick around to the end to hear 14 new seconds of audio from the upcoming Visitors mini-series!
When the universe provides a topic, It Happened One Year listens! After an intro by friend of the show and Visitors From Nova Scotia cast member Alex Ferrer, Sarah & Joe cover how they came to discuss the short-lived Broadway musical How Now Dow Jones at all, and the critical, commercial, and awards success it had (or didn't have) in 1967. The careers of those involved - Tony Roberts, Brenda Vaccaro, Arthur Penn, etc. - get a quick look, along with some attention to the show's obvious predecessor - How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying. Cameos abound from the likes of Hubert Humphrey, the fighting Gamecocks of South Carolina, Angela Lansbury, Zorro the Gay Blade, and many more! And stick around to the end for nineteen seconds of new audio from the big upcoming scripted episode!
Welcome to Business Corner, It Happened One Year style! A rarely used room in the complex, but still a vital, vibrant sector of 1967! After an introduction by Angie Buonincontro - appearing in The Visitors to Nova Scotia (stick around after the credits for fifteen new seconds of audio from the upcoming event!) and no little discussion of this season's Chicago Bears disaster and the household bets pertaining, Sarah & Joe breakdown the landmark new businesses of '67, including JanSport and Big Lots!, but primarily Southwest and New Line! Ten-minute turnarounds, Wanna Get Away fares, A Nightmare on Elm Street, The Lord of the Rings, the hub-and-spoke model, and Semi-Pro all make appearances, plus a Reefer Madness themed wrap-up sure to send you running for the edibles!
The second in a two part look at the Windy City showcases all the ribbon cutting and unveiling and local club gigging taking place in the big town in 1967! After an introduction from beloved friend of the show and ReconCinemation co-host David Munchak, Sarah & Joe stroll up Michigan Ave and over to City Hall and west on Madison and east on Ontario to discuss the reopening of the Auditorium Theatre, Mayor Daley's election to a fourth term, the expansion Chicago Bulls' first season, the opening of the Museum of Contemporary Art, the formation of the Chicago Transit Authority (later, just Chicago) band, and much more! And stick around after the wrap-up for twenty-four new seconds of audio from the upcoming Visitors to Nova Scotia episode! Coming soon!
Between Mayor Daley's election to a fourth term, the Cubs hanging up a 22nd straight season losing out on the pennant, and Green Bay winning the first Super Bowl, 1967 was already kind of a mess in Chicago - but factor in unexpected chaos and mayhem and you have a disaster for the ages along the lakefront! After an intro by friend of the show Jim Warner, proud Chicago residents Sarah & Joe (transplanted for a total of 32 years, at present) recount the swath of destruction wreaked by the fire at McCormick Place, the worst single-storm snowfall in city history, and the largest outbreak of tornadoes ever in Illinois! Along the way, they discuss the various wind, snow, and fire related events they've experienced since living in Cook County, and tease the large upcoming scripted show yet again, this time with a full fifteen seconds of new show audio! Get excited!
1967 saw the departure of two individuals who played key roles in events that shaped the century and America and the world forever after - atomic bomb designer J. Robert Oppenheimer and the man that killed the man that "killed" the president, Jack Ruby! After an introduction by great friend of the show, The Batman himself (appearing in the upcoming The Visitors to Nova Scotia - trailer out now!), Sarah & Joe go deep into detail on the Manhattan Project, the Cold War, HUAC, conspiracy theories, alternate potential futures, the Kennedy assassination, the ridiculousness of the Warren Commission, and how these things continue to influence the modern day.
Another fabled It Happened One Year road episode, this time quite literally! Recorded on I-80 East through the wintry barrenness of Ohio, Sarah & Joe take finding-time-to-record-an-episode to a new extreme, multitasking at the risk of life and limb! Not really - traffic was slow - but the Christmas jams of 1967 were hot, with the releases of Barbra Streisand's A Christmas Album and Stevie Wonder's Someday at Christmas! Listen as the hosts break down the classics and forgettables from these albums, plus go into their personal holiday favorites, the songs they can't stand, and why Barbra's "Jingle Bells" is the Die Hard of Christmas tunes. Cameos along the way from Mel Blanc, Bing Crosby, the Muppets, Mariah Carey, the Goodman Theatre in Chicago, and yet again, Elvis Presley. Merry Christmas, Movie House!
Sarah & Joe boldly go where they've planned to go before, but never quite got around to it, with It Happened One Year's look at the original Star Trek series, specifically the season two episode "I, Mudd," airing November 3rd, 1967! After an intro by friend of the show Lana Cooper, the hosts touch on what was skipped by season one's 1994 omission of Generations and The Next Generation finale, their respective (and somewhat limited) personal exposure to the film and TV franchise, and discuss just how misogynistic (or not?) the show was in its early days. There's also a quick look at the character history of Harcourt Fenton Mudd (and his portrayer, Roger C. Carmel, with his epic mustache), and also another surprising conversation around the tight-pants epidemic prevalent on Friday night television in '67.
The recap of television on November 3rd, 1967 continues, with the lead program on CBS - the two-fisted steampunk western comic adventure The Wild Wild West! After an intro by friend of the podcast Kristen Gaydos, Sarah & Joe break down the show's relatively brief, memorable run in the late '60s, from the controversy over its violence to the miraculous fabric that seemingly doesn't tear during the many fights scenes. Along the way, show favorite James Gregory makes an appearance, alongside series stars Robert Conrad and Ross Martin, with additional discussions of the 1999 Will Smith feature adaptation (and that year's Razzie Awards), Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, Clambake, Batman '66, and a chaotic outro in search of a fitting ending that gets way, way out there.
It may have no connection to NBC's Blackout Thursday promotion of 1994, but It Happened One Year is not about to let November 3rd go - and so, get ready for a three-part look at television on this random Friday in 1967! Kicking it off, on CBS at 8:30/7:30 CST, the #3 show of the season - Gomer Pyle U.S.M.C.! With an intro by legendary friend of the podcast Dave Gardon, Sarah & Joe look at the program's history, the success and failure of backdoor pilots/spinoffs, Gomer's tap dancing around the Vietnam war, Friends' handling of 9/11, and the best possible casting idea for a live TV musical. Shazam!
Things get spooky in our Halloween episode! Abby(Annabelle) starts out with the story of - you guessed it - Annabelle the Doll! The original demonic “it” gorl and fear-mongering spooky doll-child of Ed and Lorraine Warren. Then, strap in for a mystery a la Abby from Ashlyn who pulled off the “Abby” look better than Abby does! Ashlyn tells the story of the disappearance of the seaward Sarah Joe and her five passengers. This episode has everything: another irrational fear, good alliteration, pronunciations of “doll”, a hermit crab demon, hidden talents, a story that's *giving* Life of Pi, hearing the Twilight Zone theme song, and slippery shiny bangs. Thanks for listening!Follow us on social media: @iscreamsocialpodcastEmail us: iscreamsocialpod@gmail.comSupport the show
OOOooooooOOOOOOooooooOOOO! Welcome, guys and ghouls, to It Happened One Year's terrifying fright-fest look at California's spookiest governor, former film star and future president, a movie monster like no other - Ronald Reagan! Recorded on location in lovely Palm Springs, CA, Sarah & Joe look at the events leading to Reagan's 1967 inauguration as Sacramento's top man, including the highlights of his silver screen career, his descent in Republicanism after being a longtime FDR supporter, Pat Brown's implosion as governor, and the wild primaries on both sides, all leading to his convincing victory! With guest appearances along the way from Richard Nixon, 50 Cent, Doc Brown & Marty McFly, Dinah Shore, Jesse Ventura, Sonny Bono, and more, IHOY's historic first West Coast episode is loaded with thrills, chills, and horrifying portents for democracy! Be sure to get out and vote next week! Your life may depend on it!* (*true of virtually every election from this point forward)
Five and a half decades ago today, the famed Patterson/Gimlin Bigfoot video was captured in northern California, and It Happened One Year is there! Sarah & Joe break down all the key figures in this hoax-leaning adventure, with commentary cribbed from Hollywood make-up artists and effects specialists, theories highly probable and completely unlikely, and a shoutout to the block-of-ice Sasquatch they saw, on display at all times in Austin, TX (big ups, Museum of the Weird!). The hosts go on mental journeys from belief to disbelief, discuss supernatural creatures and their prevalence in far flung world cultures, and speculate whether the Mrs. Bigfoot from this video is a Scorpio or not.
Just in time for the playoffs! The underdog of underdog teams grabs the It Happened One Year spotlight this week, as the 1967 Boston Red Sox come out of nowhere to make their first World Series in 21 years, garnering the "Impossible Dream" nickname and potentially saving the franchise! Sarah & Joe get deep into Red Sox Nation and that '67 run - how Joe became a Red Sox fan, how the franchise and the fan base has changed since 2004, Carl Yastrzemski's Triple Crown season, the tragedy of Tony Conigliaro, the greatness of Bob Gibson, the surprise appearance of Roger Maris, and another game seven defeat in the 86-year losing drought. Along the way, some discussion of Aaron Judge's home run "record" chase, feelings about the steroid era's continuing debates, and very half-assed predictions for this year's champion ensue! Get your peanuts and Cracker Jack, folks!
Yes, that is actually what's going on in this episode! What starts out as a fun road episode - recording at the McHenry Outdoor Theatre Drive-In in McHenry, Illinois - devolves into something else entirely, as Austin Powers & Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me don't exactly prove to be a firm, foundational topic for this '67 podcast. Witness as Sarah & Joe struggle with wholly expected car battery related issues at a drive-in theater! Listen as they delve into other, later films set in the Summer of Love! Marvel at the amount of hamburgers and hot dogs they consume! It Happened One Year's second episode at an outdoor movie theater proves to be the best one yet. Let's all go to the movies!
Can you open a car wash by the Sea of Tranquility? Can you aim rockets at your neighbors' house from the exosphere? Can you open your own personal restaurant at the end of the universe? Well it's all laid out in 1967's Outer Space Treaty, and It Happened One Year is breaking it down for you! Listen as Sarah & Joe debate their future space travel plans! Watch Pres. 45's attempts to subvert the treaty by cobbling together a Space Force! How does the Antarctica Treaty inform this outer space legislation? Can the country of Chad legally take over the moon? Are video phones the most prescient aspect of Kubrick's 2001? The hosts breach the final frontier and attempt to get hyped about America's potential return to find Alan Shepard's golf balls!
With so much music to cover from that fateful year of 1967, Sarah & Joe decided to start big with the debut album from the Jimi Hendrix Experience, going deep on the formation of the band, their brief, legendary run, and primarily the lasting impact of Are You Experienced? Witness the formative Hendrix exposure, by way of White Men Can't Jump and Wayne's World! Listen for the unexpected comparisons to one-hit wonder White Town! Learn the tale of Cynthia Plaster Caster and how it segues us to another epic Dong Watch! Revisit the classic story of Grover Cleveland's grave in Princeton, NJ! It's a little bit of everything across the backdrop of one of '67's grandest arrivals!
As another season of gridiron greatness starts, It Happened One Year is taking it all the way back to the beginning of the Super Bowl era! Sarah & Joe breakdown the circumstances behind the initial AFL-NFL Championship Game in January of 1967, the surprising popularity of the junior league orchestrating the merger, and the wild differences in game play from fifty-five years ago to today. Along the way, there's a new IHOY Hall of Famer inducted, a brief segway to mention the band We Were Promised Jetpacks, predictions for the upcoming NFL season, more Chicago Bears talk than is probably warranted, the hosts' undying hatred for Aaron Rodgers, and, obviously, the Super Bowl Shuffle. It Happened One Year is shufflin' on down, doing it for you!
Finding two or three famous and semi-famous people born on the exact same day isn't super difficult, if you do a little digging. But turning up fully eleven celebrities from the worlds of movies, music, sports, television, and modeling is basically unheard of - but that's where the 1967 research led us! February 20th is discussed for its position on the calendar, speculation of what was happening nine months prior, and how this near-dozen group might reflect on Pisces in general. We've got Olympians and centerfolds! NFL greats and Futurama cast members (plural)! We've got Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Famers and beloved '90s heartthrobs! We've got child performers and radio personalities! It's such an amazing bunch of coincidence as to almost make one believe a higher power had a hand in crafting today's episode, but come on, Sarah & Joe just got lucky with this one.
The marketplace was changed forever by the advent of today's topic products, all introduced to the public in 1967! Sarah & Joe walk through the notable inventions and creations of the year, from the mundane but useful (handheld calculator) to the useful but waning (automated teller machine) to the fun party game/tool of the industrial prison complex (electronic breathalyzer). Along the way, landmark childhood staples like Lite Brite, Battleship, Skip-Bo, Gatorade, and Ho Hos get a look, alongside lengthy discussions about McDonald's and the Big Mac, St. Louis and the Gateway Arch, a truly unhinged commercial for Fiddle Faddle, and pleas for the Drake's company of baked goods to sponsor the podcast.
Today we examine more info on demon-linked killings, discuss how to fix evolution, and look at bizarre disappearances while wondering how you would deal with a "Lost" situation. While looking into crazy disappearances, I found out about the "Sarah Joe." It is a little known story outside of Hawaii of five men who went fishing and only one was ever found. 10 years later. Harmony and understanding, sympathy and trust abound in this ninth foray into 1967, covering the legacy and impact of the groundbreaking hippie musical extravaganza, Hair! Sarah & Joe discuss the freewheeling nature of the show's composition, from its initial off-Broadway premiere in '67 to its triumphant run on Broadway and the West End to becoming a worldwide phenomenon. Much attention is paid to creators Gerome Ragni and James Rado, their other projects in subsequent years, the too-late film adaptation by Milos Forman in 1979, the massive controversies surrounding Hair virtually everywhere it played, and how the show influenced and changed musical theater from that point forward.
The show is consistent in its love of a good threesies, and #8 is no exception - as sporting greats Bubba Smith, Kathrine Switzer, and Evel Knieval have their 1967s examined! Sarah & Joe take us through the '67 NFL Draft and cover highlights from #1 pick Smith's careers as a footballer and an actor, then look at the Boston Marathon intrigue surrounding Switzer's attempt to run in disguise. Finally, the New Year's Eve Caesars Palace fountain jump by Knieval is discussed, with many stops along the way to talk Who's the Boss?, helicopter parenting, marathon rules, the Police Academy series, the dearth of daredevils in pop culture, various Halls of Fame, and, of course, Bubba Until it Hurts. The classics never go out of style!

What would happen if an American city decided it no longer wanted to be part of its assigned state? Could it just leave? Could it join up with a different state? Could it become its own nation?? That's (kind of) what happened in the tiny village of Winneconne in central Wisconsin, circa July of 1967! Sarah & Joe, having just returned from a brief visit to the cheese empire, delve into the wacky aspects of city secession, appointing a new cabinet, designing a national flag, and annexing nearby towns. Along the way, they discuss potentially leading the charge to have their building secede from the city of Chicago, which historical figure Sarah most resembles, and the differences between the village of Bainbridge, NY and the town of Bainbridge, NY. Sexy, exciting geography packed episode!
With the imminent release of Baz Luhrmann's big screen biopic, It Happened One Year checked the 1967 release schedule and found not one, not two, but three big movies starring the King of Rock 'n' Roll, and figured it was high time to give them a watch. They aren't Elvis's best films, they aren't his best known films, but they are all, in their own odd ways, fascinating hunk-a hunks of entertainment - Double Trouble, Easy Come Easy Go, and Clambake! With such luminary co-stars as Elsa Lanchester, Bill Bixby, Michael Murphy, Pat Harrington, Pat Priest, Will Hutchins, and Shelley Fabares, these films are long on talent, very long on musical numbers, and murky on plot! Listen as Sarah & Joe recount their Elvis connections, detail the highlights of visiting Graceland in Memphis, rate the films on a scale of one-to-five hip gyrations, and spotlight the most ludicrous tacked-on song in each production.
Television and satellite broadcasting took a giant leap for mankind, and It Happened One Year is there! Sarah & Joe delve into the segments bizarre, fascinating, and deadly dull that comprise the intercontinental TV production Our World, airing June 25th, 1967! At the time (supposedly) the most viewed program in history, this BBC-led production featured live events from across the globe - most notably Japan, Australia, Mexico, Sweden, France, Germany, Canada, and the U.S. of A. From half-baked athletic competitions to behind-the-scenes filmmaking, from pedantic traffic reports to Saturn V rocket tests, from Leonard Bernstein to The Beatles, this slice of '67 documentary is equal parts technical achievement and slow-motion entertainment catastrophe. Discussion ranges through Russia's 11th hour bailing on the program to camera difficulties in Tunisia to Sarah getting songs stuck in her head to Joe's Andrew Cuomo impression. This is Our World!
It's science-fiction madness come to life in this fourth chilling episode of It Happened One Year's look at 1967! Sarah & Joe take a close examination at the business of freezing corpses with aims toward eventual reanimation, by way of the the story of the first human being to undergo this procedure - James Bedford! A harrowing tale of his body's journey across western American states and the optimists and charlatans involved unfolds in standard, jokey IHOY fashion. What other notables are currently in the fridge in Scottsdale, Arizona? And would the hosts be willing to take the subzero adventure themselves? All will be revealed!
The counterculture brought all their flutes and vegetables to the park on March 26th, 1967, and the Love-In commenced! It Happened One Year plunges you into the midst of this glorious, groovy event as Sarah & Joe talk flower & incense based protest circa the Summer of Love, and then spiral it out to the Be-Ins of the time, the simultaneous Central Park event of Easter '67, more aggressive protests to come, and whether or not The Monkees joined in with the fun and frivolity. Attention is paid along the way to Les Blank's God Respects Us When We Work..., the psychedelic bands making appearances at Elysian Park that day, General Lewis Hershey vs. General Hershey Bar, and speculation as to how the hosts may have personally involved themselves in protests on their college campuses were they alive at the time.

A large portion of American society has never gotten to experience the cultural mania of a wedding being held in the home of the president, but in the late '60s and early '70s, this joint was a hotbed of matrimonial hullabaloo. Sarah & Joe captain a journey through time as they explore the history of White House nuptials, stretching back multiple centuries, while focusing on the union of Lyndon Johnson's daughter Lynda Bird to Marine Corps officer and future governor and senator from Virginia Chuck Robb! From the guest list to the menu to the intrigue surrounding LBJ's terrier Yuki, It Happened One Year covers it all and cordially invites you to the D.C. social event of the year, circa 1967!
Welcome back, IHOY Heads! It's a new year in season two as Sarah & Joe do their level best to tackle the landmark lovefest that was 1967! Kicking things off is the famed (and forgotten?) tale of Munich artist Helmut Winter, a man who would not take it anymore as a hundred NATO planes flew over his neighborhood each and every day, and took matters into his own hands in a hilariously creative way. Witness the valiant efforts that affected real change for his community! Be there as the It Happened One Year Hall of Fame is finally established! Hear the hosts attempt to stick to 1967, and veer back to 1994 only on occasion!
There have been some questions about It Happened One Year's freeform, under-researched trial episodes - well, fear not, as this last Bonus Episode before Season Two begins stays mostly on subject and features actual concrete opinions! Recorded in February of 2021 (which is handy to know, given references in the discussion), Sarah & Joe go full Marvel What If...? on the world in their recollections and breakdown of the nail-biter 2000 Election between George W. Bush and Al Gore. What would've happened had Gore won? Do all the early '00s wars still happen? Does the Patriot Act exist? Who could've been elected in 2004, and 2008, and 2012, for that matter? Also, what about the photo-finish 1960 Election? Do the '60s as we know them actually take place in the '70s, if Nixon won in '60? Lots of speculation and conjecture abound as IHOY gears up for the new season!
While still debating which year would be covered by Season Two of It Happened One Year, Sarah & Joe took a mighty swing at 476 A.D., with decidedly mixed results! Sure, the Roman Empire finally collapsed for good, but the hosts have a hard time even staying on that momentous event, getting distracted by the secular naming convention for years, the fifth century Pope Simplicius, Joe Biden's State of the Union Address, and how calendars worked before the birth of Christ. Be thankful that 476 didn't emerge as the winning subject of the new year!
Tragedy of the Sarah Joe in Hana, Hawaii - In the archives of more modern disasters that happened in the heart of the ocean, the disappearance of a Boston Whaler called Sarah Joe 40 years ago left tremendous devastation in the small town of Hana located at the eastern end of the island of Maui, Hawaii. The Sarah Joe tragedy left more many unanswered questions.
