Now is the time to rise up and become ANTI-anti-aging. And this episode is dedicated to the strong woman inside each of us who just gets better with age! This week, we take a deep dive into the topic of aging through the lens of being a mom. It is funny, heartfelt, and informative, with a format unlike anything out there. We cover learning to love yourself as you grow older, letting one's hair go gray (including messages from moms who grew their hair out during lockdown), and ultimately feeling good in the skin you're in. We interview pro-aging advocate, stylist, and influencer Wendy Euler of Goodbye Crop Top (she is also host of the hit podcast “Cropped”), and speak with top “gray transition” hairstylist April Markley. In addition to witty and honest banter between Tracey and Shayna, there are also messages from real moms across the U.S. and Canada sharing their thoughts on aging. As a special treat, we end with a HILARIOUS original song performed by Shayna Ferm. The topic is incredibly timely and currently trending all across social. A change is in the air! Shayna Ferm started her acting career at The Theatre School at DePaul University in Chicago and then spent 11 years in NYC doing film and theatre, and producing and performing music, stand-up and sketch comedy. After having a baby in the Big Apple and immediately becoming pregnant with her second child (whoops!), she and her family moved to her hometown of Denver, Colorado. Weeks after baby number two was born, and always in search of a creative project, she and her lifelong friend Tracey Tee launched The Pump and Dump Show, a much-needed "mom's night out” event that quickly grew to a nationally touring production, written, produced and starring Shayna and Tracey. The pair toured for 5 years before replicating the show to star additional casts of new moms and co-founding their umbrella brand, Band of Mothers Media. Her current role in the company, outside of co-hosting the Band of Mothers Podcast, is as Chief Creative Officer for all the branches of the business as well as for the current touring productions. Tracey Tee double majored in Theatre and English at Hillsdale College, and quickly moved to Los Angeles where she worked as an actor, trained in improv comedy with The Groundlings and used her comedic flair as a freelance writer and purveyor of art and handmade goods in LA's burgeoning art scene. After 7 years in LA, Tracey and her husband moved back to her native home of Denver, CO to start a family. Not long after her daughter was born, she dove back into live comedy with her lifelong friend Shayna Ferm as they developed a “parentally incorrect” night out for moms, The Pump and Dump Show. What started in a bar as a creative outlet (and much needed night out) for both quickly grew to a nationally touring production, written, produced and starring Tracey and Shayna. The pair toured for 5 years before replicating the show to star additional casts of new moms and co-founding their umbrella brand, Band of Mothers Media, where Tracey is CEO. She lives with her husband of 19 years, their 10-year-old daughter and recently made the happy mistake of adopting a third dog. Thanks, COVID! Today joining me in the guest chair are Shayna and Tracey of the Band of Mothers podcast and the Pump and Dump Live show. Shayna and Tracey have been friends since 8th grade. They created the Band of Mother's brand to help uplift other women and remind moms they are awesome. Shayna and Tracey's mission is to spread humor and generosity from mom to mom because we're all just doing the best we can. What I love about Shayna & Tracey is how they got their startup after an experience in a Chili's restaurant. I also love how they incorporate humor into every day topics that all moms encounter and may struggle with. They found a creative way to provide an outlet, not only for themselves but for other moms as well, to get together and laugh about mom struggles and successes. Today they share: The particular experience that inspired the start of the Pump and Dump Live show The importance of facing yourself in the mirror and dealing with your issues How body positivity and a positive mindset can inspire our children The current shift on social media and in life towards more transparent living Connect with Shayna & Tracey https://bandofmothers.com https://facebook.com/thepumpanddump https://instagram.com/bandofmothersofficial Enjoy 25% off your first purchase at the BOM Market when you use code "MTAM25"- https://bom.market Celebrate Mother's Day early at the "Mother's Day Eve: Live Pump & Dump Show" featuring Shayna Ferm and Tracey Tee of Band of Mothers. Shayna Ferm and Tracey Tee, creators of “The Pump and Dump Show” and best friends since the 8th grade, open up about their journey from being moms of small children to touring the country with a Parentally Incorrect comedy show to starting the “Band of Mothers” podcast. Shayna and Tracey take turns introducing each other to the world and explain what makes her so special (and so hilarious). Then, Shayna sings an original song that every mom (and dad) will likely relate to — especially right now: “Don’t Make Me Get Up.” Plus, they play a game of “did you or didn’t you try it” Quarantine Trends that covers all the insane lockdown trends that have happened this past year from getting a new puppy to making sourdough bread and putting in a stock tank pool. In the premiere of their podcast “Band of Mothers,” Shayna and Tracey talk to Latham Thomas, aka Glow Maven, about the importance of caring for yourself as a woman. Latham discusses why it’s essential that every mother creates her own “sister circle of support” and that we learn to ask for help — even if it’s asking someone to watch the kids so we can shower or take a yoga class. Latham also shares why it’s essential we teach our children at a young age about women’s health, including why Mom may want to rest the first couple days of her period. Plus, should women get leave the first two days of their period each month? Latham gives her take. Then, Latham plays a game of Woo Woo or Poo Poo with Shayna and Tracey, where she reveals her thoughts on everything from sound baths and tarot cards to vag steams and psychedelic mushrooms. All moms know that parenting is full of hilarious moments…well, hilarious in the “someday you’ll look back and laugh” kind of way. Tracey Tee and Shayna Ferm – friends, moms, comedians and creators of the Pump & Dump show – have turned those funny (and frustrating) moments into a stage show that invites moms to The post The Pump & Dump Show: Voices 33 appeared first on The Mom Hour.
January's MILF (Mother I'd Like To Find Out About) Of The Month is mother of three and founder of Pilates Collective, Clara Gelatt. Not only is Clara an awesome mom, but she's basically a healer. Just ask Tracey. Her journey to becoming one of Denver's most thoughtful and integrative Pilates instructors is equal parts her own desire to help women become strong and healthy + leaning into a mind/body practice that could help her husband with Muscular Dystrophy. We chat with Clara about balancing three young kids while running a business, what it's like to be married to a man with a disability and in a wheelchair; as well as her frustrations with the lack of post-partum care for women and her philosophy behind how and why she practices Pilates. (Spoiler: it's not to get you skinny.) And then we somehow nose-dive into a brief discussion about lube...but it is absolutely NOT what you think it is about. Listen to it, and then please leave a comment if the "lube talk" happened to you lol. And speaking of lube...wouldn't you know Shayna has a song from the old days about just that thing, so you're in for a treat with a Shayna Ferm ditty from the archives. For more about Pilates Collective check them out onFacebookInstagram As always, we'd love to hear your feedback and thoughts. Email us anytime at pumpanddumpshowATgmail.com, leave a rating or comment on your podcast app, or tell us IRL and come see us at a show! ************** Shayna and Tracey have been friends since the 8th grade – that’s over 25 years. After college, they each moved to separate coasts for a decade. They were reunited when they decided to leave big city life and settle down with their families in Denver, Colorado and Facebook told them their daughters are 3 weeks apart. After several play dates, some more childbirth, some unsuccessful pumping, and the overwhelming nature of mommy community boards, The Pump and Dump Show was born. The show launched in 2012 in a bar in Northwest Denver and quickly grew to a bi-monthly, local staple for new moms to have a night out. In 2014, Shayna and Tracey took The Pump and Dump Show on its first national tour and continue to perform every month to audiences nationwide.
