The Blindside Blues band just dropped their sixteenth album titled “XVI" via Jib Machine Records. Mike and the band just returned from their September tour in Poland, and he tells us how American Blues music connects with people all over the world. He also shares the importance music has had in his life. When I first heard Mike sing, I thought it was Jack Bruce from Cream. Mike Onesko soulful voice is the heart of the Blindside Blues Band sound. Mike was discovered in the clubs of Martin County, California by Shrapnel records president Mike Varney. Shortly after, Onesko formed the Blindside Blues Band with Scott Johnson on guitar, Gregg Chaisson on bass guitar and, Racer X frontman and Badlands drummer, Jeff Martin on drums. The band put out three records with this lineup. Although Gregg played on the records he never did any live shows with the band. That duty was filled admirably by Kier Staeheli. The last Shrapnel lineup for the Blindside Blues Band was Mike Onesko, Mike Varney, Aysnley Dunbar, James Lomenzo. Onesko went on to Comet Records in Italy to record many records such as "Mike Onesko's Guitar Army", "Smokehouse Sessions", "Live At The Torrita Blues Festival, Italy", as well as "Voodoo Crossing" and "Gypsy Blood" (both Jimi Hendrix tributes). mikeonesko.com

"I had to become an upcoming artist again. With ego, with all that emotion of being a superstar once, of having hits once, of rocking the nation once, with all that ego, it would be hard to want to start again, right? The logical thing that I did was to just plunge." - GT Da Guitarman, Singer & Guitarist. For the first time ever, Origins Africa caught up with a guest for a follow up interview recording. On this bonus episode, we have a more personal conversation with GT Da Guitarman - the artistic side of Olaolu Olugbemiro Tokunbo. We explore the spiritual journey GT started last year, right after his divorce was finalized. You will hear GT talk about giving up his property and moving to Abuja. GT will also share an exciting news - about finally getting something he had been seeking for the longest time since he left Storm Records. #GTDaGuitarman #GT #OlaoluOlugbemiroTokunbo #OriginsAfrica #OriginsAfricaPodcast *** 1-2-1 Newsletter by Origins Africa Catch our 1-2-1 Newsletter where we share with you 1 Lesson, 2 Quotes, and 1 Question from each guest interview. "People would come to me and say, "GT, you have a great voice". And even when they'd say all those things, I knew I could sing; but then, the gravity at which people were coming, I just couldn't deny it. They kept coming and saying "Wow, the guy with the good voice". I now became "the guy with the good voice"; people didn't call me GT anymore. They'd be like, "that guy can sing"... I mean, it was more like music found me... or people just chose me." - GT Da Guitarman, Singer & Guitarist. "When am I gonna be what I wanna be, When am I gonna see what I wanna see, Time is ticking and I can't wait no more, Do dreams ever come true in this part of this world." Those words are from the song, Dreamer, by GT Da Guitarman - the artistic side of Olaolu Olugbemiro Tokunbo. Such powerful lyrics the song has, echoing the cries of many young individuals even today - "when will my dreams come true?" In 2021, we knew we wanted to interview GT on Origins Africa Podcast. If anything, to ask just one question - 2021 made it 16 years since he released Dreamer; was GT still curious about when he was going to be what he wanted to be or had his dreams come true? GT''s origin story is one of a young man who had a dream to be heard all over the world through his music, and who gave that dream a shot. Indeed, he was heard. But along the way, he got frustrated, gave up on the dream for some time and went on to do something else. Today, GT is back pursuing that dream with renewed passion like he never left. On this episode, Part 1, you will hear GT talk about growing up in what he called a "broken home". He'll talk about the defining moment that shaped his decision to pursue music as a career, how he got his first guitar, the moment he got signed into Storm Records, and then, taking a break from pursuing his dream - music. Moriah FormicaTake a walk with me down Fascination Street as I get to know Moriah Formica. Moriah is the lead singer and guitarist for the new rock band PLUSH. In this episode we chat about how she got pulled into music at a VERY early age, who her inspirations were and are, and how the overwhelming support from her parents has really helped her succeed and thrive in the music business. Moriah and her band mate collaborated on their version of Barracuda (By Heart), put it up on YouTube, and started getting attention from the right people. Shortly thereafter they added a couple more ladies and formed PLUSH. Since then; Plush has played with: Halestorm, Evanescence, Seether, Mammoth WVH, Daughtry, and Seven Dust. Plush is currently on tour supporting Seven Dust for a second time. Moriah tells me what she writes about, or rather WHO she writes about in her lyrics. I made a VERY embarrassing faux pas and look like an ass, and I play the new single from Plush's self titled debut album. She also lets me play a song from her first EP as a solo artist when she was 13.For tickets and tour info, check out: PlushRocks.netFollow Moriah on social media:Twit: @MoriahFormicaInsta: @MoriahFormicaFB: Moriah FormicaTikTok: @MoriahFormicaFollow Plush on social media:Twit: @PlushRocksInsta: @PlushRocksTikTok: @PlushRocksOfficial

Guitarist and lyricist, Dustin Gaspard, who recently released Hoping Heaven Got a Kitchen, is our guest on Discover Lafayette. A poet since he was a young boy, Dustin is a self-taught vocalist and guitarist. He has taken his love of music and writing to produce his first complete album which was released in late February 2022 and is a prayer to the memory of his grandmother and grandfather who raised him in Cow Island in Southern Vermilion Parish. "My grandfather made me the man I am today." Dustin Gaspard will be showcasing his new album, Hoping Heaven Got a Kitchen, in a live venue at the Acadiana Center for The Arts on March 31, 2022, from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. The Grammy Nominated band, Sweet Cecilia, a family trio from Cecilia, LA, will be the opening act for the show. Tickets may be purchased here. Raised on vintage 50s/ 60s soul and swamp pop, and other traditional folk sounds, Dustin is an alternative folk songwriter and frontman/vocalist for Rock N Soul group DG and the Freetown Sound. After rehabbing his voice which had been silenced as a young man due to vocal strain that irreparably damaged his vocal cords, he has paid his dues in life and is ascending in the music world, humble and wise beyond his years. We can't express how much we wish him the greatest success as he continues to find his voice, his lyrics, and the audience who will raise him up. In South Louisiana, it can be tough for songwriters that aren't Cajun musicians to get their music showcased. As Dustin says, "You can't dance to a sad-boy singer-songwriter's tunes. There is a time and a place for that." By chance in 2019, Justin found the application process for South Louisiana Songwriters Festival Scholarship online and applying at the last minute, he was selected after a lengthy period of rehabilitating his voice during a time where he was writing more thoughtful songs, reflecting on his life. He had lost the complete range of his voice on both ends of the spectrum and it had made him think of his career in the long-term, rather than squandering his talent by abusing his voice and body. "If I'm not capable of executing the vocal athletics I had before, then I'll be a folk-songwriter and hone my craft and lyrics and how I convey myself as an artist," Dustin thought. "I will be forever extremely grateful to CREATE Lafayette, Kate Durio, and all who were so supportive of me. My South Louisiana Songwriters Festival Scholarship continues to open doors to me." Based upon his talent and submission of music, Dustin was selected as the second recipient of the South Louisiana Songwriters Festival Scholarship, which offers a platform for all types of musicians. He was introduced to acclaimed songwriters from around the world who made him feel less alone. Finding the application process for SOLO online and applying at the last minute, he was selected after 1 1/2 years of rehabilitating his voice in a time period where he was writing more thoughtful songs, reflecting on his life. He had lost the complete range of his voice on both ends of the spectrum and it had made him think of his career in the long-term, rather than squandering his talent by abusing his voice and body. "If I'm not capable of executing the vocal athletics I had before, then I'll be a folk-songwriter and hone my craft and lyrics and how I convey myself as an artist," Dustin thought. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lo_5EtZnC0s Dustin Gaspard is also an active musician with DG and the Freetown Sound, a high energy, blues, rock & roll band developed to break into the local music scene. Their music is light and free....a true fun sound that everyone can enjoy. DG and the Freetown Sound is a high-energy, blues, and rock & roll band that Dustin Gaspard also sings with. "It's a fund band to dance to!" Dustin Gaspard exemplifies the type of talent a community wants to see thrive and grow! Best wishes, Dustin, on a bright future!

This week, Andy chats with Caitlin Edwards, the singer/guitarist of the Chicago ska-punk band Bumsy and The Moochers. Caitlin is also co-founder of the Punk The Burbs music festival, which would have been celebrating it's 4th year if the COVID-19 pandemic had not forced it's cancellation. We talk a bit about what it's been like to be a ska band during a time when ska had fallen out of favor with a lot of audiences. We also dig into the joy and pain of running a music festival. Caitlin also shares her account of working in a hospital during a pandemic, and why it's so important to keep wearing those masks. My guests today are Sammy Hagar and his longtime guitarist Vic Johnson. What really needs to be said about Sammy Hagar, one of the all time greats of rock and roll vocalists- From Montrose, Van Halen and his own solo career to everything in between he is one of the most identifiable voices ever, and even now at at age 70 he's still kicking ass. As a huge Van Halen fan myself (Edward Van Halen is the reason I play guitar today, he was such a big influence on me) it was great to sit with Sammy and talk about guitarists, songs, his new concept record (Space Between) with The Circle (with Vic Johnson, Jason Bonham and Mike Anthony.) We also talk about a few Van Halen stories, Montrose, what Sammy looks for in a guitarist and how Vic Johnson got the gig. Vic, a great guitarist in his own right also was a member of the Busboys and shared a couple great stories as well. This interview took place at Sammy's studio in Northern California in Aug. 2018.Support this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/the-riff-raff-with-shane-theriot/donationsAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy
