Men hallå??!!

Die Episoden 6 und 7 aus The Bad Batch sind geladen und voller Emotionen: Wut, Tränen, Lachen, Rafa, Trace und Captain Rex. Oops…Spoileralert.

Stanley Kubrick's The Shining - Is a Scare Ever Really Just a Scare?  On this week's episode of WatchThis W/RickRamos, Ibrahim & I sit down to talk one of the great films of Modern Horror Cinema - Stanley Kubrick's adaptation of Stephen King's The Shining (1980). It's important to recognize Stephen King's role in this film. So often Kubrick is given sole credit for all that is on screen. Even if King's dissatisfaction with the film has been incredibly vocal through the years, we have to discuss what his original creation means to the final product. Without a doubt it's an incredible film and a great deal of this is due to Kubrick's vision, but also the violent, intense, and captivating performance of Jack Nicholson as Jack Torrance, the innocence of Danny Lloyd, a beautifully nuanced Scatman Crothers, and a pained and painful performance by Shelley Duvall that can only be called soul-draining. Take a listen as Mr. Chavez and I look back on this classic of paranoia and terror. We also spend time discussing Rodney Ascher's strange, warped, and confused Room 237 (2012). The less said, the better. Take a listen . . . it makes for an interesting conversation. Questions, Comments, Complaints, & Suggestions can be directed to gondoramos@yahoo.com. Many Thanks.

Doctor Sleep (2019) is Mike Flanagan's sequel to Stanley Kubrick's adaptation of Stephen King's The Shining, but also an adaptation of Stephen King's Doctor Sleep, itself a sequel to Stephen King's The Shining, but one that disavows the changes made by Stanley Kubrick's The Shining, changes that Mike Flanagan reinstates in his Doctor Sleep, in order to serve as a sequel to both The Shining and The Shining. Confused? Surprisingly, you won't be, as it's one of the best horror movies of the year. Here's Joey and Chris to discuss, all the film's various Abras and kadabras, astral projections and Overlooks, confirm why you should always wear your seatbelt no matter how many centuries old you are, and most importantly, ask how on Earth they managed to make what is a quite excellent film against all the odds.  All of which leads to one important question: How would you survive? We're celebrating the 2019 holiday by discussing one of the greatest and most influential horror films of all time, and another this season based on a best-selling novel by Stephen King: The Shining, the 1980 movie adaptation directed, produced, and written by Stanley Kubrick! Beau, Robert, and Ash appraise the value of the film as a pop culture phenomenon, give our thoughts on the cinematic direction taken by Kubrick in comparison and contrast to King's original story, and analyze the implicit qualities of layered storytelling throughout. We even have time to mention the documentary film Room 237 and the upcoming sequel adaptation Doctor Sleep. Shat the Movies: 80's & 90's Best Film Review

It's the Third Annual Shat The Movies Halloween Spooktacular and the Third Annual Roger Telling About His Grandparents' Haunted House! In this episode, we cover Stanley Kubrick's "The Shining," a 1980 film staggering in its production value and terrifying in its shooting schedule. Roger Roeper really shines in this episode, as he opens a portal into the world of psychic friends, imaginary friends, and creepy voices. Big D argues that vaping is the same as farting. And Gene beats his head against the wall trying to understand this hedge maze of a movie. The Shat boys also examine Stephen King's criticism of the film, applaud the terrific sound editing, lament the rampant misogyny, ponder trusting Scatman Crothers, and reminisce about the comfort of old timey bartenders.  So grab your bowl of candy, queue up the pod, and force every trick-or-treater to listen as Shat The Movies gets spoopy AF. Masterpiece or abomination? According to like, 90% of people, Stanley Kubrick's The Shining is a peerless magnum opus; however, according to Stephen King and a few of his cronies, it's uglier than a naked old lady rotting in a bathtub.  Let's compare, shall we? Kubrick directed 2001: A Space Odyssey, A Clockwork Orange, and Full Metal Jacket. King directed Maximum Overdrive. Ahem... MOVING ON! This film has been embroiled in controversy and skepticism since its debut in 1980. There are theories that span from Kubrick being a secret Nazi fascist, to a free mason, to a man plagued with silent outrage after not being able to take credit for faking the moon landing, with ten 237 other theories in between! ...or was it 217? The film has a tremendous, albeit minimal cast. Jack Nicholson (Chinatown, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, Little Shop of Horrors) kills it (pun intended) as recovering alcoholic and general louse, Jack Torrance. Torrance is the "caretaker" of the Overlook Hotel, who wants to be a part of "management," at the expense of his family and his sanity.  Shelley Duvall (Popeye, Annie Hall, Rocketman) plays his long-suffering wife, Winifred- NOT Winnie or Freddy. Scatman Crothers (Aristocats, Twilight Zone: The Movie, Transformers: The Movie) is Dick Hallorann, who enacts one of the film's greatest variances from the book- which Jake loves and Bryan hates.  This episode contrasts the book and movie, as we do with all of our King episodes. We talk the major differences, such as the Overlook Hotel exploding with Jack Torrance's hands melting to the broiler, to Jack Nicholson freezing in a hedge maze. We also talk some of the smaller variations like Tony, Danny's imaginary friend, either being a distant apparition or a chatty finger.  Also, as you can imagine, there will almost definitely be a reboot, remake, re-whatever in the future. So, we talk about elements of the movies that could work, and those, like those damn topiary animals, that just won't... ever... seriously, Stephen- just drop it.  We hope this episode will help you to prepare for Doctor Sleep, hitting theaters next month. We will be reviewing both the novel and film of that as well! This week's "Hidden Track" is Alex Cuervo, aka Espectrostatic, fittingly with his song Shiver. https://espectrostatic.bandcamp.com/ & http://alexcuervo.net/ If you ever have feedback or recommendations on future episodes, please let us know at slasherspod@gmail.com.
