Tune in as Arthur brings back his friend Daxh Alanis for a discussion on Echo, the new MCU miniseries that's premiering on Disney+ (as well as Hulu) and bringing us back around to Maya Lopez, the street-level fighter and deaf amputee whom we had met back in 2021's Hawkeye. The badassery of both Maya and Alaqua Cox, Kingpin continuing to be enthralling as ever amongst the comic book villains out there, and the iffiness of that mindscape scene comprise a few of the talking points for this episode. Created by Marion Dayre, Echo stars Alaqua Cox, Chaske Spencer, Tantoo Cardinal, Devery Jacobs, Zahn McClarnon, Cody Lightning, Graham Greene, Vincent D'Onofrio, Katarina Ziervogel, Charlie Cox, Julia Jones, Morningstar Angeline, Dannie McCallum, and Andrew Howard.

Aho, podcast listeners! To celebrate Native American Heritage Month, Paul and Arlo check in on the latest season of Reservation Dogs, possibly the best show on TV. It would be hard to top Rez Dog's freshman year, a revelatory season filled with joy, pain, and a whole bunch of shitasses. Yet that's exactly what Sterlin Harjo and his collaborators have done, deepening the themes of loss and community that made the first season so resonant. The boys rave about the show's core cast–Devery Jacobs, D'Pharaoh Woon-A-Tai, Lane Factor, and Paulina Alexis—while lauding Harjo's ability to shine an even brighter light on supporting players like Zahn McClarnon, Jana Schmieding, and Lily Gladstone. Zahn McClarnon's early experiences with reservation life helped him add some personal touches as a cast member of Reservation Dogs. But it was actually his experience with the musical Jesus Christ Superstar that got him into acting in the first place. Zahn and Marc talk about their shared love of working with Sterlin Harjo on Reservation Dogs and why it's a history-making show. They also talk about Zahn's struggles with drugs earlier in his life and how he actually used psychedelics to help kick heroin. We're back, baby, with 8 lives to spare. Why?Because some people got to see the new cool as a fan TV series, "Dark Winds", and we got to inquire with these bonafide media critics about it. Y'all know we had to come back for this.In this episode our baby boy has come back home to us. After a brief stint of doing some real movie stuff, Jason Asenap has returned. And not just that -- we gots us a special guest. Another real life critic who hails from Geek Girl Authority and goes by the handle:Noetta Harjo. We are so lucky that she has decided to slum it with us lowly poddycast folks.Since Jason and Noetta are real life critics, they got to watch the new AMC show "Dark Winds". And they come here to spill the beans about what they saw. Then after our chat, our real life journalist, Angela Startz, puts on her journalistic hat and talks about the time she hung out at a virtual roundtable discussion with Jessica Matten, Zahn McClarnon, Kiowa Gordon, Chris Eyre and Graham Roland -- the acting people, creators and storytellers of "Dark Winds".The discussion was sponsored by the great folks at the Native American Journalist Association (NAJA).This is kind of a long episode so hope you enjoy it. Thanks for listening. After you're done listening, don't forget to do some reading of Noetta Harjo's writings at:https://www.geekgirlauthority.com/author/noetta/and then maybe check out NAJA and see what all they offer:https://najanewsroom.com/The music is:"Venus" by Kat Lock from her "Some Recurring Notes" albumAnd don't forget to watch the six episode series of "Dark Winds", dropping every Sunday, starting June 12, on AMC and on their streaming app: AMC+. Doctor Sleep is a 2019 American psychological horror film based on the 2013 novel of the same name by Stephen King, which is a sequel to King's 1977 novel The Shining. The film, set several decades after the events of The Shining, combines elements of the 1977 novel and its 1980 film adaptation of the same name directed by Stanley Kubrick. Doctor Sleep is written, directed, and edited by Mike Flanagan. It stars Ewan McGregor as Dan Torrance, a man with psychic abilities who struggles with childhood trauma. The film also stars Rebecca Ferguson and Kyliegh Curran in her feature film debut. Carl Lumbly, Zahn McClarnon, Emily Alyn Lind, Bruce Greenwood, Jocelin Donahue, Alex Essoe, and Cliff Curtis also feature in supporting roles. The character Danny Torrance first appeared in King's novel and Kubrick's adaptation as a child with psychic abilities called "the shining". The novel Doctor Sleep and its film adaptation feature Dan Torrance as an adult. Flanagan said that the film Doctor Sleep is an adaptation of King's novel but that it would also exist "in the same cinematic universe" as Kubrick's The Shining, thus making the film not only an adaptation of a sequel, but a sequel in and of itself. The director said he made an effort to reconcile the differences between The Shining novel and film. Warner Bros. Pictures began developing a film adaptation shortly after Doctor Sleep was published in 2013. Writer-producer Akiva Goldsman wrote a script, but the studio did not secure a budget for the film until the box-office success of its 2017 horror film It, also based on a novel by King. Flanagan was hired to rewrite Goldsman's script and direct the film. Filming began in September 2018 in the state of Georgia, including Atlanta and the surrounding area, and concluded in December 2018. Doctor Sleep premiered in Europe theaters on October 31, 2019 and is scheduled to be released in the United States on November 8, 2019, by Warner Bros. Pictures. The film received generally positive reviews from critics, with many praising the performances of McGregor, Curran and Ferguson, atmosphere, musical score and faithfulness to the novel and Kubrick's 1980 film. -------------------- FOLLOW US -------------------- NADIA SAWALHA & FAMILY https://www.instagram.com/nadiasawalhaandfamily.com http://www.twitter.com/nadiasawalha For more movie news follow: POPCORN JUNKIES: https://www.instagram.com/thepopcornjunkies ------------------------------------ BUSINESS ENQUIRIES ------------------------------------ For business enquiries contact: michelle@doghouse-media.co.uk --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/popcorn-junkies/message

Join Matt and Logan as they explore the eighth episode of Westworld's second season: Kiksuya! The duo tackles their immediate reactions (1:01) before moving on to another relatively one topic episode. They talk about Zahn McClarnon as Akecheta and the genesis of consciousness (4:35), Huey Lewis and the Power of Love and the Maeve Connection (11:50), before moving on to the dehumanization of Native Americans and the lasting consequences of a possible team up and did we just see The Door? (23:20) Lastly, they briefly discuss what's going on with William and Charlotte Hale (32:02) before making their ninth episode predictions (38:38). Thanks for listening, and we'll see you next time with Vanishing Point!
This week's episode of HBO's Westworld was truly a thing of beauty. Learning about the long and winding journey of Akecheta, exquisitely played by Zahn McClarnon, in his search for truth, meaning, and his long lost love, was as profound a watching experience as I've had these past few years. Along the way he unlocks his own consciousness, meets god and the devil, and learns about a path his people may take to be free forever. Will he reach The Door? What, and who, will he find there? And will Maeve make it to be reunited with her daughter currently under Akecheta's protection? We discuss this, you feedback, and the theories and speculation everyone's buzzing about on this week's pod!
