In Episode 157, hosts Alyce and Laura are* worried about Olivia Coleman in the upcoming movie, Wicker. I mean… splinters… There are a lot of corrections. We're not sorry though, our Caravan of Corrections gives us content during slow news cycles Star Wars Visions: The Ninth Jedi series dropped all episodes on August 5. Have you watched? Tell us what you think! D23 is happening next weekend. There are a few panels we're hoping someone will livestream or livetwe-- uh, what is the Bluesky equivalent of livetweeting? A Welsh dub of Star Wars: A New Hope? FINALLY!  Never stop never stopping making fun of the fact that the Ahsoka show had the balls to go 4 years in between seasons   “Remember Furbies? I miss those little guys” -said no one ever. But Disney Parks won't  let that stop them from breeding these unholy Furby-Ewok hybrids. Bae (aka Ewan McGregor) and Anne Hathaway are out here promoting their new non-Jurassic-Park dinosaur movie, but the real news is Bae still wants to do more Obi-Wan.  The Mando movie won the week on Video on Demand, but that victory is equivalent to being the best shot in a platoon of stormtroopers. But this dude claiming to be the CEO of Disney says a win is a win. Starfighter keeps on Starfighting, this time in the MCU.  “I can't wait to watch Robot Chicken at the Lucas Museum,” said someone who only kinda browsed this article. Still debating whether or not the new novel Star Wars: Legacy is for you? This article and excerpt may help you decide.  A closer look at Star Wars: The Experience   Instagram: @forcetoastpod Bluesky: forcetoastpod.bsky.social Email: forcetoastpod@gmail.com Website: forcetoastpod.com *This podcast contains a sh!t ton of profanity and boozin. Joshua Noel and TJ Blackwell dive into the adventurous world of "Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom", marking the grand finale of Systematic Geekology's Summer Drive-In miniseries. In this episode, they explore everything from the movie's iconic heart-pulling scene to its place among the beloved Indiana Jones saga. Their banter flows as effortlessly as Indy dodges traps, reflecting on how the film's prequel status adds depth to the character development we see in "Raiders of the Lost Ark". With a laid-back vibe, they also touch on the film's cultural commentary and its playful critiques of action tropes from the era. Plus, they can't resist sharing personal anecdotes about their love for the film, making it clear that "Temple of Doom" holds a special place in their hearts as they wrap up this summer's cinematic journey. Diving deep into the adventurous escapades of "Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom", Joshua and TJ's discussion is a delightful blend of nostalgia, critique, and humor. Right from the start, Joshua shares his passion for the film, positioning it as a cornerstone of his cinematic experience alongside "Star Wars: A New Hope". They set the scene of a summer Drive-In series, where the atmosphere is ripe for reminiscing about how films like Temple of Doom shaped their childhoods and influenced their understanding of different cultures. The conversation flows seamlessly as they dissect memorable scenes, such as the iconic heart-ripping moment, and reflect on how certain elements of the film have aged both well and poorly over time. The duo does not shy away from addressing the film's more controversial aspects, particularly the portrayal of Willie Scott as a stereotypical damsel in distress. They explore how her character serves as a parody of other action films, which leads to a broader discussion about the role of women in cinema and how these portrayals reflect societal attitudes of the era. On a lighter note, Short Round's character is highlighted as a source of joy and comic relief, with both hosts sharing fond memories of his antics and the zest he brought to the film. Their witty banter keeps the conversation engaging, with TJ's remarks about Indiana Jones being a “better Rambo” eliciting laughter and nods of agreement. As they wrap up the episode, Joshua and TJ delve into what kind of drink would best represent the film's adventurous spirit, landing on ideas that reflect their humorous take on pairing beverages with cinematic experiences. The hosts encourage listeners to engage with their own memories of the film, making this episode not just a review but a heartfelt celebration of the magic of movies and the lasting impact they leave on our lives. Through their relaxed and witty dialogue, Joshua and TJ create an inviting atmosphere that resonates with fans of the film and newcomers alike.Takeaways:Joshua and TJ reflect on their love for Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, discussing its significance as a prequel that adds layers to Indiana Jones's character. The duo highlights how this film stands out for its unique portrayal of indigenous cultures compared to typical depictions in action films of its time.Short Round's character is praised for bringing humor and depth to the film, making him a standout sidekick who positively influences Indiana's personality. They delve into the film's critique of the 'white savior' trope, noting how Indiana Jones both saves and is saved by characters from the cultures he encounters.Joshua shares a personal anecdote about how the film sparked his interest in different religions and cultures, emphasizing its impact on his childhood. The episode wraps up with a light-hearted discussion about what flavored tea or lemonade would pair well with viewing Temple of Doom, showcasing their playful banter..Be sure to check out our merch, find extra content, and become an official member of Systematic Geekology on our website:https://systematic-geekology-shop.fourthwall.com/.Listen to the rest of our Prequels Summer Drive-In:https://player.captivate.fm/collection/c59b93c5-6aed-48ee-8e63-200ce912ffaa.Listen to more of our other film reviews:https://player.captivate.fm/collection/6a01e00d-cfd7-4041-a7a4-1fd32c545050.Check out other episodes with Joshua:https://player.captivate.fm/collection/642da9db-496a-40f5-b212-7013d1e211e0.Don't miss any of TJ's episodes:https://player.captivate.fm/collection/f4c32709-d8ff-4cef-8dfd-5775275c3c5eMentioned in this episode:Systematic GeekologyOur show focuses around our favorite fandoms that we discuss from a Christian perspective. Star Wars opened on May 25th, 1977, in 32 American cinemas. The first cut had been a disaster. The director of photography and director were barely speaking. The ILM crew, working in a Van Nuys warehouse in temperatures of up to 130 degrees Fahrenheit, had burned through most of their budget on shots the director deemed unusable. The Tunisian shoot had led to cast injuries and a potential war with Libya. The director was hospitalised with hypertension during production. Its cast were convinced it would fail, as were 20th Century Fox executives. The odds were stacked against it.And yet... what followed was the biggest box office phenomenon in cinema history. But there's more to the story than how Star Wars succeeded. It asks what the film meant to 1977 America, to the New Hollywood generation it emerged from, and to the industry it permanently transformed.Star Wars wouldn't be Star Wars without Marcia Lucas, whose editorial instincts built the Death Star trench run almost from the ground up; John Dykstra and the young engineers at Industrial Light & Magic who invented motion-control camera technology in a Van Nuys warehouse, and Alan Ladd Jr., the one Fox executive who greenlit a film he openly admitted he didn't understand. It's a story worthy of a 350th episode.Massive thanks to Andy from Geek Salad for contributing. Rogue One was the first anthology movie announced post the Disney takeover of Lucasfilm in 2012; the year after Star Wars Episode VII The Force Awakens had enticed and delighted audiences across the world. The rogue one, you might say...Rogue One, born of the simple question "how did the Death Star plans end up with Princess Leia?" is probably most famous for its CGI recreations of Grand Moff Tarkin and Princess Leia, and its enduring of lengthy re-shoots to change the narrative of the third act and insert additional scenes.Grand Moff Tarkin.... well that's another issue entirely. At least Carrie Fisher was alive to approve her younger likeness....As a spin-off of the existing Skywalker Saga, Rogue One remains separate to the existing story enough to be talked about independently, but connected enough to matter in the timeline between Episode III: Revenge of the Sith and Episode IV: A New Hope.It shows the true sacrifice of rebellion; the nameless soldiers who gave their lives for a greater cause are given names. It's a powerful reminder on the cost of war, because we never hear the names of these characters again.Like all rebellions, it's built on hope.Right now, we could all do with a little more of thatThis episode was first published on: 11th June 2020Mentioned in this episode:From the ArchiveThere's no new episode this week, so I thought you might be interested in revisiting this slightly older, but no less brilliant episode. WSTR Galactic Public Access — Episode 436: Rodians In this episode of WSTR Galactic Public Access, Todd Hoffman returns to the show to continue the Rishi's Species segment, this time focusing on the Rodians—the reptilian, swamp-dwelling species best known for Greedo, the iconic bounty hunter from Star Wars: A New Hope. Todd explores what makes Rodians so recognizable, from their bug-like eyes and suction-cup fingers to their rough, pebbly skin and reputation as cunning hunters. The conversation looks at how their species is portrayed across Star Wars lore, including appearances in the Cantina, the Clone Wars, Return of the Jedi, Rebels, and the Bad Batch, and asks whether Greedo has unfairly become the defining Rodian in fan memory. The episode also digs into the broader cultural and storytelling potential of Rodians, comparing them to Mandalorians, discussing their possible role in bounty hunting and crime dramas, and imagining what kind of Star Wars series could center a Rodian lead. Along the way, Todd touches on behind-the-scenes trivia, including the evolution of Greedo's name, production notes, and the voice work that helped shape the character.

This episode reaches back into the archives of your 50,000‑watt New York radio days in 1997, bringing forward a resonant conversation with LeVar Burton whern he had just released Aftermath, a speculative, cautionary tale about a near‑future America fractured by racial conflict. The discussion explores the novel's characters, its themes of redemption and hope, and Burton's reflections on the 20th anniversary of Roots—a role and cultural moment that continued to shape him two decades later. Tony Tellado was also joined by Peter Fletzer, then a writer for Star Wars Galaxy magazine and now the host of the Around the Galaxy podcast. Together, you revisit the excitement, controversy, and technical wizardry surrounding the 1997 Special Edition release of Star Wars: A New Hope. This episode blends literary sci‑fi, cultural history, and fandom in a way that feels both nostalgic and surprisingly current. SAVE 17% ON PLUS

A long time ago, in a galaxy that still feels oddly close to home, The Commentary Booth kicked off its 50th anniversary Star Wars rewatch exactly the way George Lucas intended, in release order. Jamie Apps and Corrina Mabey return to where it all began, revisiting Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope ahead of the film's upcoming 50th anniversary cinema run of the original cut. This episode is part love letter, part gentle rant, and part deep dive into how a scrappy 1977 space opera reshaped blockbuster cinema forever. Jamie and Corrina unpack the misfit cast who went on to define pop culture, the genius business gamble that turned merchandising into a goldmine, and why practical effects still hit harder than modern CGI. There's nostalgia, frustration (yes, the special editions come up), and genuine awe at how much of modern sci-fi traces back to this single film.Along the way, they debate whether A New Hope is really Luke's story at all, argue the spiritual versus scientific take on the Force, and reflect on the personal memories that make Star Wars more than just a franchise.Highlights Breakdown:

A long time ago in an office in Bath... we said we'd do a series on Star Wars. Finally, here it is. We start where it all began, with 1977's A New Hope (or simply 'Star Wars' as it was known back then). An un-assuming sci-fi adventure with a cast full of unknowns that director George Lucas thought was going to bomb - so much so that he went on holiday to avoid the noise around its release. What follows is movie history - the biggest film franchise of all time was born. But how does the original measure up to what's come since? How did a simple post production decision transform the entire finale? And is Harrison Ford actually handsome in this one? We discuss all this and more as we move scene-by-scene through the film that started it all. We'll be watching the original Star Wars trilogy followed by the prequel trilogy, all through December and January.
