Benson and Nadine are two west coast drifting legends. They met through Nissan and S Chassis meetups in Southern California in the late 90's and continued to learn about car style, and drifting together. They went from tuners to professional drifters and parents. Their wedding was covered in Super Street and featured their S13s which is one of the most iconic car wedding shoots in the US. Benson and Nadine were competitors in the first two years of Formula Drift. Benson shipped his caged street S13 with a stock sr20det, including a t25 turbo to run against race cars at the 2004 season of FD. Nadine drove her s13 in FD as well and is one of the first professional female drifters in the US. They've both been featured in a few top tier magazines when car mags were the pinnacle of tuner culture. Nadine was even on the cover of Carboy Magazine. Nadine is a published author and has been fighting for women to be equal in motorsport since she started. Together they have influenced drifting and car culture for well over two decades. Not to mention their Sileighty Mania Podcast which has some of the most influential people in drifting telling the stories of the origins of US drifting.  We're doing a crossover so check out my episode where they interview me.  Guests:  https://www.instagram.com/bensonhsu/ https://www.instagram.com/sileightymania/ https://www.instagram.com/driftqueen/ Sponsor:  https://koruworks.com/ code “goodestboi” for 15% off any of the Koru branded parts.  https://tirestreets.com/ "goodest651" for 20% off Accelera 651s “goodest15” for 15% off the rest Goodest Co: http://goodestco.com (grab some merch or follow us on other channels)  Host: @palmer_sndrsn, @goodestcast

Fascinating Insights Into the Production of Automotive TV Shows With Tom Diaz, Coordinating Producer at Bright Bay Creative

Gain Traction

Tom Diaz is the Coordinating Producer at Bright Bay Creative, where he contributes to the production of Netflix automotive TV shows. His first experience in the automotive industry was as a co-owner of a muffler shop in 1992. Despite not knowing what a muffler or catalytic converter were — or how to run a business — Tom's passion for cars helped him to learn quickly. He found his muffler-related niche in import racing, and mufflers from his shop were routinely featured on the cover of Super Street, an import magazine. He then opened an auto accessory store which laid the path toward helping with the sponsorship of a TV show.  In this episode… Were you a fan of the show Pimp My Ride? It aired on MTV for six seasons from 2004 to 2007. Did you notice the difference between seasons 1-4 and seasons 5-6? According to Tom Diaz, who was part of the show's production team, the show started to go downhill in its fifth season. At that point, he says everything on the show was fake — fake stuff, fake owners, fake cars, and a fake cast. Are you curious about the behind-the-scenes craziness involved with producing that show? On this episode of Gain Traction, Neal Maier and Matthew Peters are joined by Tom to talk about the making of Pimp My Ride. Tom shares how he broke into the automotive industry and how his journey led him to television production. He explains how he got involved with Pimp My Ride and his experience helping with the show's production. Tom tells an emotional story about how the owner of Strada Wheels helped him solidify his current role in TV production. Don't miss this fascinating conversation! Here's a glimpse of what you'll learn:  Tom Diaz talks about his background and how he got involved in TV production Why people working on automotive television shows were often not happy with Tom  Tom gets emotional as he shares how his friend helped him start working with Bright Bay Creative Which tires has Tom been particularly fond of over the years? What are the most exciting things about producing shows like Pimp My Ride? The challenges of working with multiple shop owners while creating content Resources mentioned in this episode: Tom Diaz on LinkedIn  Pimp My Ride Street Designs Inc on Instagram Strada Wheels  Ryan Friedlinghaus IMDb Rico Aiello on LinkedIn Neal Maier on LinkedIn Matthew Peters on LinkedIn Tread Partners Sponsor for this episode... Andy Santerre is a bona fide New England racing icon... and a great storyteller! You'll be speechless as you hear about his early fight with a paralyzing virus and how it served as his motivation to start driving racecars. The rapid rise from his first Super Street race at Speedway 95 to victory lane in the NASCAR Busch Series was unlikely at best, and it serves as the basis for some incredible memories. And, of course, there was that amazing run of four consecutive Busch North Series championships and the highs and lows of that period. Enjoy our chat with a legend on this episode of Uncommon Deeds!

The New Edge Mustang is a follow-up to their mid 8-second SN95 car. This new car has a full 25.3 cage, gigantic turbo, and is set to go deep into the 7s. The guys have built this car in 3 months in the Autodynamix shop. It's a stock firewall and floor pan car so it fits in the Super Street category. The car didn't have a roof until Feb 4th, you know last Saturday… They fired the car for the first time on January 31st at 1am. The car was on the dyno 4 days ago, but they wouldn't give up any numbers, except when they replied to Clark Rosenstengel “we only run our stuff to 1k ish on the dyno then do the rest at the track.” I don't have engine details yet but I do know it has a huge Garrett GT55 Turbo parked in the grill, which runs through a water to air intercooler, Holley HighRam intake and what can be expected as a big cubic inch LS engine. John Capizzi built the trans, but I can not find the details of which trans was chosen. I know I don't know much about this car but the Diehl's are one of my first stops once I arrive at the track on Monday morning! My favorite item they offer are the TKO Hand-Cleaning Wipes, they are heavy duty waterless wipes. These are my favorite GO-TO hand and surface cleaning wipes. These are perfect for wrenching on that killer ride in the garage, on those challenging roadside repairs (if you haven't had to do this, you don't drag-n-drive) , when hunting parts and junk yard hopping, on those once in a lifetime barnfind recoveries or just to have around when the convenience of running water maybe scarce. We talked about her humble beginnings. Born and raised in Australia, Debbie is the 2nd oldest of 7 siblings. She started her modeling career in 2009 and was a Cover model for Import Tuner, Super Street, Performance Auto and Sound and Live to Ride magazines who has also been featured in editorials for Zoo, Ralph and several other publications. Complex magazine ranked her as among the 25 Hottest Import Models on Instagram in 2013. Debbie moved to Hollywood 3 years ago and has been taking over social media by storm. She has 139K followers on instgram and more recently, grew her favorite platform, Tik Tok to 163K followers. Debbie also has a couple short films under her belt that has won awards and her ultimate goal is to film, produce, direct, and and star on the big screen. She is definitely going places and I'm rooting for her. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/chluytalk/support

And one of Super Streets most recognizable and knowledgeable writers was Rikdaddy! aka Ricky Chu and he is in the pod booth for this episode of Mod Talks. Jason grew up in Orange County, CA and has always enjoyed going fast and being involved with fast cars. He was particularly fond of the late 80’s and early 90’s import tuners cars. In 1995, Jason purchased a brand new Honda Civic hatchback SI and began installing parts before he even brought it home! Things got extreme pretty fast and before he knew it, Jason was swapping motors in his Honda and in his friends’ cars. Jason became a crew chief for one of his friends and found a skill in organization and planning events. He used this skill to get a job at Super Street Magazine to produce the events they held. In 2004, Jason and the guys at Super Street had the grand idea to hold a Time Attack style event like the ones they saw in Japan. The plan was to hold it after SEMA in hopes that a lot of the professional Japanese teams would stay longer and participate. A lot of the rules were created around what Jason knew best, and that was drag racing. That is why the event has no power limitations, but instead uses tire width and tread wear to break up the classes. They held several events but Jason later left Super Street to pursue jobs at other automotive enthusiast companies. Fast forward to 2010 and Jason is once again excited about hosting his own Time Attack race series. He teams up with a partner and holds a press conference at the SEMA show to announce Global Time Attack. They team up with NASA (National Auto Sport Association) to bring some legitimacy to their program. He has since broken out to run the series by himself. There are 3 main events: Road Atlanta, NOLA Motorsports, and GTA Super Lap Battle. Jason also organizes some Pro-Am events local for the California people throughout the year. GTA Super Lap Battle is still the largest and most publicized event. It is held the Thursday & Friday after SEMA and draws a huge collection of cars, spectators, and media!
