Send Us A Message! Let us know what you think. Is the Reserve Bank's latest interest rate hike a sudden shock to the system, or is it actually the clearest sign yet that the economic fog is finally lifting? In this episode of the Week in Review, Debbie Roberts from Property Apprentice breaks down the wave of fresh real estate data for the week ending Friday, 10th of July, 2026. While the mainstream media headlines are busy dancing in panic over the central bank's shift to 2.5%, the underlying economic metrics tell a completely different story—revealing massive silver linings for both property buyers and landlords who look at the numbers with total discipline. The Five Core Topics Discussed:Topic 1: The Consensus OCR Reduction in Stimulus – Breaking down the RBNZ's unexpected decision to raise the Official Cash Rate by 25 basis points to 2.5%, why peak inflation has officially been slashed, and why interest rates may come down faster than bank economists previously projected. Topic 2: The Widening Regional Market Fracture – A deep dive into the latest QV House Price Index showing national values dropping slightly by 0.4%, while the market splits along strict regional lines with Christchurch outperforming Auckland and Wellington. Topic 3: Why "Risky" Properties are Outperforming the Broader Market – Analyzing the bombshell Cotality report revealing that flood-susceptible homes have gained 26.1% in value since 2020—outgrowing unaffected zones as cost-conscious buyers hunt out $100,000 upfront discounts. Topic 4: The Auckland Rental Market Winter Reset – Looking past the headline shock of an 10.9% drop in rental enquiries to reveal why tenant demand remains fundamentally strong year-on-year, and how available stock listings have expanded buyer selection by 10.9%. Topic 5: The Pervasive Fall of Household Interest Costs – Unpacking the latest Westpac household finances chart pack proving that household interest spending has successfully declined for a fifth consecutive quarter, heavily supported by a 3.8% climb in disposable incomes.

That Solo Life Episode 346: Why Independent PR Firms Are Outperforming Holding Companies Right Now Episode Summary It's the week after the Fourth of July, and Karen and Michelle are talking about a different kind of independence. It turns out that the future of PR looks a lot like its past: closer to the work, the relationships, and the accountability that got lost as holding companies scaled. Karen and Michelle walk through the data backing that argument — holding company headcount cuts, a Forrester forecast for 2026, independent firm revenue and growth figures, and a client tenure study that should make every solo practitioner feel validated. This is a celebratory, data-backed episode about why this moment belongs to independent practitioners, and a reminder that going solo doesn't mean going it alone. Episode Highlights [01:13] The Article That Sparked This Episode: Karen and Michelle discuss a PR News article by Jennifer Risi founder and president of The Sway Effect, titled “Old School Is the New School: How Independent PR Is Outrunning the Holding Company Model.” According to the article the future of PR looks like its past, not the bloated, multi-layered approval structures that came with scale, but direct relationships, accountability, and responsiveness. [02:29] The Industry Backdrop: Mergers, Layoffs, and a Symbolic Real Estate Shift: The article was published around Cannes Lions, timed against a wave of holding company consolidation, including a major agency merger referenced in the piece. Michelle highlights a striking detail: WPP gave up its longtime beach space at Cannes, and an independent agency took it over, a literal changing of the guard discussed in the original article. [03:10] The Headcount Numbers Behind the Shift: According to the article, holding companies cut headcount by an average of 8% in 2025, with a Forrester forecast cited for a 15% reduction in 2026. Karen and Michelle are clear that this isn't something to celebrate, hey don't take pleasure in layoffs or peers in the industry struggling, but the data underscores the structural shift taking place. All source data referenced in the episode will be linked in the show notes. [05:59] Independent Firms Are Posting Real Growth: Citing O'Dwyer's 2026 independent PR firm rankings, the independent sector pushed combined fee income to $4.8 billion, with nearly a third of the top 140 independent firms surveyed posting double-digit growth in the same year holding companies were announcing layoffs. Karen and Michelle's takeaway for solo listeners who haven't seen that kind of growth yet: there is work being awarded right now, and consistency in business development matters more than ever. [07:08] Independent Clients Stick Around Longer: A 2025 joint study from the ANA and the 4A's found that clients stay with independent agencies an average of 7.3 years, compared to 5.8 years at holding company agencies. Karen notes this surprised her. She expected the gap to be even wider based on anecdotal experience with solo practitioners but the data confirms what many independents have felt for years: that tenure reflects trust renewed over and over again, not just convenience. [10:21] Why Now? Two Forces Colliding: Michelle frames the moment as two things happening at once. The holding company model scaled to a point where margin optimization started to outweigh relationship investment. At the same time, AI emerged and gave independent practitioners the tools to work smarter and keep pace without the overhead that scale requires. [11:11] The Counterintuitive AI Argument: Judgment Becomes More Valuable, Not Less: The article asserts that AI doesn't make communications less important; it makes human judgment more valuable. When the media environment is fragmented, and machine-generated content adds speed and volume to an already chaotic landscape, clients need a human who can say what's actually real, what matters, and what to do next. That judgment cannot be automated and it does not live in headcount, it lives in a person. [13:14] Independence Means Choosing What You Carry: Independence isn't the absence of structure, it's choosing what structure to carry. For a solo practitioner, that means no committee, no internal routing, no extra layers, just the strategy, the execution, and the phone call. Karen adds an honest counterpoint: that freedom carries real weight too, and most solos who are drawn to this work want that weight. It's not a burden when it's the work you signed up for. [16:19] The Honest Tension: Concentration Without a Bench: Michelle names the tradeoff directly. Being the whole agency means there's no one to hand a midnight crisis to, no colleague down the hall to sanity-check a risky call. The freedom and the isolation come in the same box. Karen's answer is the Solo PR Pro community — built specifically to give independent practitioners the peer support, expertise, and gut-checks that solo work doesn't naturally include. When Marybeth Gilliam was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer, she did what her years as a healthcare researcher had trained her to do: she went looking for the evidence. What she found was a gap between a growing body of peer-reviewed research pointing to strategies that can improve outcomes, and the fact that most of it never reached patients because it hadn't yet become standard of care.In this episode of Patient From Hell, host Samira Daswani sits down with Marybeth, founder of Outperform Cancer, to talk about how she is working to close that gap. She translates overlooked, peer-reviewed findings into steps patients can actually take, always paired with standard treatment rather than in place of it. Exercise, nutrition, and sleep are part of it, and so is asking sharper questions about biomarker testing, weighing well-supported off-label options, and refusing to take no for an answer when the data is strong. She shares her own story, the research that reshaped her thinking, and a practical case for taking an active role in your care when the first treatment decisions matter most.In this episode:Why she founded Outperform Cancer to close the gap between research and the clinicHow she pairs evidence-based strategies with standard treatment, not instead of itBiomarker testing and advocating for off-label options backed by solid trials (PATINA, MA.32)What being your own advocate actually looks like in the exam roomThis podcast is for general informational purposes only and does not constitute medical advice. Discover how advanced blood-based assays and multi-modality screening can identify silent cellular changes before they impact your longevity protocol.Traditional cancer screenings are constrained by structural limitations, capturing less than twenty percent of eventual diagnoses due to strict age thresholds, invasive procedures, and systemic healthcare delays. Dr. Tarek Mouhieddine from the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute introduces a comprehensive strategy for multi-cancer early detection that combines circulating tumor biomarkers, DNA methylation profiling, and whole-body MRIs. This multi-layered screening architecture seeks to identify up to fifty cancer subtypes at stage one, where therapeutic interventions achieve the highest cure rates. The discussion details how tracking biomolecular trends through annual blood draws allows for early intervention without the radiation risk of repetitive CT scans or the complications of premature tissue biopsies. Dr. Mouhieddine also emphasizes that maintaining baseline cellular health preserves physiological resilience, directly dictating how well an individual tolerates therapeutic interventions. This framework offers actionable insights for individuals over 50 looking to optimize their preventative diagnostic protocols.

Why do some developers chase maximum density only to find their profits swallowed by complexity and rising costs?Nathan Battishall explains why the gap between strong and weak deals is widening and why "potential" is a dangerous word in today's market. You will learn how shifting your focus from maximum yield to reliable simplicity allows you to target the resilient downsizer market and secure cash-ready buyers.Nathan also warns that over-designing a project to please an architect's vision can lead to expensive construction assumptions and site constraints. By prioritising buildability and market demand over complex masterpieces, you create a predictable profit engine that stands up even when the broader market is volatile.Gain the tools to identify projects that actually stack up and start building for reliability rather than just possibility.Topics:✅ The Yield vs. Reality Gap - Understand why high-density projects often carry hidden risks that can collapse your margins during the construction phase.✅ Targeting the Downsizer Goldmine - How to design single-storey, low-maintenance homes that attract the record number of baby boomers looking to pay cash for lifestyle.✅ The "Keep and Build" Strategy - Learn how to use existing dwellings to provide downside protection and improve cash flow while you develop the rear of the site.✅ Simplicity as a Risk Filter - Focusing on efficient, predictable designs removes the trade complications and material wastage that plague more complex builds.✅ Leading with a Market-Ready Brief - Why you must dictate the project requirements based on hard data rather than letting designers create masterpieces the market cannot afford.✅ Prioritising Downside Protection - Apply risk-adjusted thinking to your feasibility studies to ensure your project remains profitable even if market conditions shift.Connect with Nathan Battishall: LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/nathanbattishall/Website: https://duplexbuildingdesign.com/ Hosted on Acast. Brands don't need more visibility, they need meaning. That's the thesis behind Ashley Orfus's work as founder of ALAB Group, where she helps innovative companies replace traditional PR tactics with performance-driven communication built on education, credibility, and community. In this episode, Ashley shares why platforms like Substack and Beehive are leveling the playing field for founders without big budgets, why handwritten notes and customer phone calls are now a competitive edge, and why women founders need to stop discounting their rates before the other person even finishes breathing.Ashley founded ALAB Group at 22 years old, after leaving luxury fashion and entertainment, before entrepreneurship was the default career path it is now. For over a decade, she has been helping founders across technology, food, hospitality, and culture who are not just launching products but inventing entire categories. From audio jewelry to vertical farming to space tourism, her work starts with one question: what is your unique point of view? Ashley challenged something I think a lot of us do. We rush to hire marketing before our product and positioning are actually ready, and then wonder why it does not get us to scale. The world does not need another business, she said. It needs yours to be clear about why it exists. We also got into the money conversation that women founders keep avoiding and why the shift from traditional media to platforms like Substack and Beehive is creating a fairer playing field for smaller brands. If you are building something and wondering where to put your energy, this one is worth your time. Chapters:

Although many of the southern U.S. markets are oversupplied with new multifamily apartments and facing challenges, midwestern markets are seeing higher occupancy levels and growing rents. Ready to rethink what retail growth actually looks like? We bring back Twilla Brooks, president and CEO of Lynette Create and Innovate, to unpack a fast, practical playbook for building brands that last, from the first e-commerce listing to staying on shelf at scale. Twilla draws on years launching brands at Walmart and Macy's, then flips the script as a founder running a digital-first consulting firm with a sharp focus on brand strategy, marketing, and community impact. We dig into the real startup mechanics no one talks about: ACH setups, business banking fees, and how to pay yourself without starving the business. Twilla shares how she prices work, avoids “resentful checks,” and customizes every engagement like a recipe, because value looks different for a small, diverse-owned startup than for a Fortune-level supplier. We walk through the moment most brands miss: the work accelerates after you get into Walmart. Content quality, OTIF discipline, and data storytelling drive staying power, and your pitch needs a content strategy from day one.On the digital front, Twilla shows how social-first marketing and micro-influencers are outpacing million-dollar ad buys. We explore TikTok Shop, Amazon Live, and event-driven influencer seeding that compress discovery and purchase into a single stream. The team's AI stack; Otter, Canva, Adobe Firefly, boosts speed without sacrificing voice, thanks to rigorous human editing. When category data is scarce, Twilla builds proxy datasets from reviews, competitor benchmarks, and creator sentiment to craft credible merchant narratives. And for suppliers stuck between Amazon and Walmart.com, she lays out a clear path to make Walmart's marketplace a true growth engine rather than a checkbox. If you're navigating retail media, e-commerce content, and social commerce while trying to keep the lights on, this conversation delivers field-tested steps you can use tomorrow. Tap play, then tell us: what's the one growth lever you'll pull this quarter? Subscribe, share with a teammate, and leave a review so more builders can find the show.

JUST Ice Tea was born from a refusal to let a company's purpose and impact disappear. JUST Ice Tea's roots trace back to Honest Tea, a pioneering brand built on the idea that beverages could be better for people and the planet. But when Honest Tea was ultimately discontinued after being sold, something incredible happened. The founders and long-standing partners across the supply chain came together with a shared resolve that fair trade and environmentally responsible tea would not end with Honest Tea. In just 90 days, their commitment brought the newly created JUST Ice Tea to consumers. And only two years later, JUST Ice Tea has surpassed the revenues of Honest Tea.We invited Seth Goldman, Co-Founder and CEO of JUST Ice Tea—as well as Board Member for Beyond Meat and PLNT Burger—to share the lessons, setbacks, and mindset that shaped his journey. Seth reflects on resilience in the face of loss, the power of long-term relationships, and why impact must be built directly into the product, supply chain, and culture of a company. He offers insights on stakeholder capitalism, the responsibility of boards and investors, and the importance of finding hope where it isn't obvious. His story is an invitation to believe that business can scale purpose, deliver justice, and create profit—one bottle at a time.Listen for insights on:Outperforming traditional growth strategies through resilience and valuesEmbedding impact directly into products, not just marketingThe power of stakeholder relationships in moments of change Resources + Links:Seth Goldman's LinkedInJUST Ice TeaMission in a BottlePurpose Pledge (00:00) - Welcome to Purpose 360 (01:07) - Seth Goldman, Just Ice Tea (02:28) - Seth's Backgrouna dn Commitment to Socially Responsible Business (05:36) - What's Changed About the Movement (07:51) - Frustrations (08:39) - Framework for Embedding Purpose (11:11) - No Downside (11:38) - Learning from Honest Tea (17:57) - Impact to Stakeholders (20:06) - Mission in a Bottle (22:53) - Recommendations for Boards (24:09) - Creating Alignment (24:40) - Purpose Pledge (26:10) - Rapid Fire Questions (27:46) - Last Words (28:24) - Wrap Up

When comparing the results, Ginni Media beat the industry average in every category, including scoring an impressive 100% in team support. Even traditionally tough metrics like autonomy and progress came in nearly 20 percentage points higher than typical benchmarks for remote, hybrid, and in-person teams. This is not a happy accident.
